I really dont think that the parts on their won can survive.I doubt it. In the seventies, maybe.But now, with so much integration going, it is near impossibility.Everyone is going to their ethnic hole because of the challenging state of our polity and economy.
Some of the leders of this ethnic agendas were people who were refused bread at the centre and they decide to make trouble and emphasize their difference as the basis of their inability to get things right.

On a softer note, do you know how many Nigerians have intermarried while all these is going on? People are moving on with their lives.

If any of you remember 'mind your language' a comedy series that used to show on the NTA in the eighties and reruns in the nineties, he was the teacher to others like mada Kofo, Aleka,Odiri and the others.

This topic of women submitting as unto the Lord an men loving their wives as Christ love the Church will be sincerely misuderstood if you do not unerstand the concepts of rights and resposibility.When the instruction was given to the women to submit, it was their responsibilty to do so and it has nothing to do with how their husbands treated them.Similarly, a man must love his wife irrespective of her submission because that is the instruction given to him.

What creates the crisis(for those looking for excuses is that they deman the right from their spouse for him/her to obey the word of God when they should be focused on their obeying the instruction given to them as either husbans or wife. If you look closely, the men dont have it easy o! To love their wife as Christ love the church.To really understand that kind of love,imagine you are (for real) the Jesus Character in the Passion of the Christ.Yes o! That kin of Love!!!

I am yet to watch 'The gospel' but from what I have read of it,it is not in the same class as 'The passion of the Christ' which is the boldest depiction of the final hours of Christ.No previous 'Jesus of Nazareth ' movie was that powerful and to make them speak in the language of the time was a masterstroke?

Let me put it this way, 'the passion' is not just a movie-it is an assignment;one of thsoe things that people do and they are remembered for along time to come.

I am hearing this for the very first time.I still saw hin on television on sunday.There is this soap that RCCG City of David sponsors where he features as the dad of a girl who recently became a christian.Wow!

I had seen him perform in Ife on stage in my final year.He does a lot of one man show for w while too.He was good.One of the last stage faithfuls.

Forgot to add that my elder sister's marriage to her husband was dissolved on the basis of one prophecy whish said that she was the reason why her husband was not making it in life.It took her departure and his marrying another wife that the prophecy should have been hard work and the grace of God!

As for their leaders, there are very few who do not have more than one wife.very few!!
A few months after I began atteding a pentecostal church, I knew more about the bible than my sisiter who have quite a few titles.

Practically all members of my family at one time or the other were connected to 'cele'.In fact, one of my late in laws was very close to the founder and his deputy in Ketu. I never really attended like my siblings but the few times I did, even though i did not know Christ as i do now, I recognised that it was a mixture of Christianity with traditional african worship or bettrer put ,applying the christian faith in a traditional manner. It was always one 'Ise' (religious ritual) based o one vision of evil by one of their prophets or another. I was the first to rebel.My mom played along until they told her not to travel for my convocation ceremony for , according to their vision, she may not come back.She traveled and came back-of course she never came back to their church.She attends a methodist church now and she has learnt to pray for herself.

Now, only person in my family does and she is leaving the place. Her experience will bring tears to your eyes!

It is really not fair to compare Lagos with Abuja.First, Abuja gets more funds for development than Lagos, even though there are may be ten times more people in Lagos than Abuja.
Lagos is perhaps the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of land and it is bursting on all fronts into ogun and beni republic.

Lagos has its characteristics.It will never be like Abuja except you drive almost everybody away from the state and spend bilions of money building roads and offices.

A lot cultures wore ear ring;African,Jewish (from where they got the gold to build and idol after leaving Egypt) As someone said, Sango worshipppers have and still plait their hairs.Much of the ring wearing by men are simply response to pop culture more than any other factor.A ring can only complement an attractive personality.Micheal Jordan is not the only personality that wore ear ring but he was distinguished by other factors. So the issue of being sexy or or attractive may not entirely depend on the ear ring you wear.

As for me and the men under my custody, we shall be expected to admire ear rings on the ear of our women only as a matter of principle and decorum.

with the PDP in diasarray and funding from some arab states and a willing army reday and willing to maim and kill, you really should not just ignore this guy without thinking about his ultimste agenda-whatever that is anyway!

Yerima For President!

The Billboard had been up for a while in some places, even in Lagos but yesterday on the news, it is finally out:the governor of Zamfara state Ahmed Yerima is going to run for the president. Considering the fact that this is the man that made the Sharia an issue in the livesa of Nigeria, what do you guys think his conmtesting will do to the polity?

Even though I have lived all my life in lagos,I am from Akure in ondo State.I ahve been there about six times since birth.

Now that it has been raised, I am very positive that someone like the current minister of Finance will do a good job of being a Nigerian president.In fact she is more than qualify than most of the politicians parading themselves as leaders.

Men will follow any woman who knows her worth and one who got their by merit.Are there not men working under Okonjo Iwaela now? The problem has always been women (some women really) are begging for post on the basis of quota and not productivity.

Okonjo Iweala is a woman I am praying to God for to rule this country.Another person is Oby Ezekwelizi (hope I spelt that right)This women are proving themsleves and no one can take anything away from them.Th only challenge might be up north where the leadership is seen as masculine rather than generic.

We realy must give kudos to the home video industry( how they came to be named Nollyhood is so embarassing) for at least giving some people jobs. As much as I love Nigeria, i cannot stand most home videos. I have this unfair notion that the more of it one watches, the lower one's IQ becomes. Creativity is totally ignored and as far as technicalities are concerned, the Sout Africans are ahead by some miles.

There are very few good contents in our home videos; the scripts were not the results of good thinking.

About two months ago, I was in a cafe where the inside of the cafe was being used for recording a home video.I was so shocked when the director moved the camera and crew to our area and co-opted us into extras without our permission. The receptionist in the cafe was the same they used in the film.No information; no excuse-they just shot and left.

There are few one can stomach though mainly the works of Tunde Kelani,Amaka Igwe,Tade Ogidan and whenever Ego Boyo decides to shoot a film.(she is married to one of Oando's founders)

I totally agree with funloving and it is not just drag_on but a lot of other guys on nairaland.com.People are just looking for attention and this is one of the easiest ways to get it.

Touche! my 2cents. you guys have points and I think that we reaching a concensus.Maybe it is because I am an enterpreneur who sees things a bit from a ownership of businesses point of view rather than getting a 9 to 5 job. In my mind and in the minds of the people who are my mentors abnd associates, we tend to look through the problems and recognise oppurtunities.

There is nothing wrong in keeping a job or living in a country where all those things are right and exact.

what I have been emphasizing is that we cannot form two teams of Nigerians and expect the best from the country.I personally do not think that the destiny of the largest black nation on earth will be left in hands of corrupt politicians.It is the activities of enterpreneurs that will build Nigeria.

A few years ago, the word on everybody's lip about China was their communism and Human rights record but today things are looking up in China and along with India, they were represented on Forbes list of global billionaires.Was the environment right? No! Russia has given the world some billionaires as well -ask any Chelsea fan- even though people claim that the country is still controlled by the state with most media outfit intimidated by the state machinery.Is evrythig right in Russia now with their wahala with chencnya and all that.

That is the light in which we must see and project Nigeria.Things are not right by the kinds of standards some of you are now used to but things can get better.Yes, you need to be a Clark Kent to live here. We wil get on.

Dont talk bad about Nigeria.We are working on the problems and things will get better.Even if you will never set foot on this country again, I respect your choice and will not abuse your adopted country.But Please for decency sake, do not call my dear country names.The realities that are true for you may not be another person's reality!

Somethigh of my last message must have been lost by the thing said about people coming home and all that.The issues are clear: Nigeria is not as develoed as America or the UK.true! There are two possibilities from there;it either gets better or it gets worse.
I will not suggests to someone that he or she should come back to develop the coutry;that is not what I meant.Only governments say that and really ,it is not practical.

This is the crux of the matter as I will like to re-present it again. We cant all travel out. It is possible that Nigeria can get better or worse depending on what you are looking at.Even for all of the comfort the developde world offers,there are instances where those things are shaken. Are there poor people in those countries too? Yes!!Do they have their challenges? Yes!!When Katrina happened in New Orleans, people suffered more because they were poor and not just because they did not know that the water was coming.Was that Nigeria?Where that to happen in Nigeria, I can imagine what some people will say!

Forget Chris Uba. Are there not people in Nigeria who are making it against the odd? THings are not perfect yet and they may never be but If the people are determined to do what they need to do,the sky is the limit.

Recently Indians are contributing to the list of Global billionaires.You should all knwo that India stiull has some 'NEPA' problems as well and one enterpreneur interviewed said it might take about 12 years to ahave full electricity.

What is being said is that therev are e people who have chosen to live their lives in spite of all these and make a future for themsleves.Do not suggests that they have made a bad choice.

I have friends who have given up all to go to LOndon and there are Nigerians there doing very well too but some of theses guys -apart from the excahnge rate that is 250 to 1- have nothing to suggests that they are beter than their coleagues.

Have you not even notice that London is the vacation spot for Nigeria workers now? What wil happen if the excahnge rate stabilizes?

I have never applied for the US visa before and I will not except on a vacation, even though i do not have the money yet.It has nothing to do with pride.It is just the sense of mission that I have and the kinds of things that drive me.I have friends all over the world and we respect the choices that we have made.I love my country and i do not intend to apologise to anyone for my commitment.

Kennis music succeeds because they promote their artistes.remember that they started on radio and until the people with their labels work out a way of promoting their artistes with airplay and all, they will be leading.

It is just like Silverbird and their films.Look at the hype and the business. their film,their cinema,their radio station and televsion station.Entertainment is business.Artistes have to thiunk the business side to things too.

As interesting as this topic is, we will never come to an agreement because the most critical factor is the human element and not really the location .The location only makes for a realistic response from the people who dwell there.

We have argued this on another forum and I think that it still depends on the people.There are some who will never pursue any goal because of a mental block that 'this is nigeria' and people like us dont make it without knowing somebody. They may make a better life of themsleves if they are living in a coutry where everything works fine and they needn't bother about the very basic things of Life that our friends abroad take for granted.

I live in Nigeria .My friends and I -with raw determination and faith in God-are building our own business.we still have the usual problems but we know that it is an oppurtuntiy to be extra special and demand more from within ourselves.It requires a great deal of creativity to do things in this parts and that is what scares the living daylight out of people.

No nation will ever be perfect as long as they are run by people and not Angels.What is the sum total of your experiences are the manifestations of thoughts of people.Living abroad has its many benefits and drawbacks so is living in Nigeria.What we see and the way we see them will be determined by us.No one should feel inferior to others who live elsewhere neither should one feel superior because they now live abroad.It is a question of our perception.

Guys! The answer is within!

I have used four banks: First bank,Citizens Bank,UBA and now GTBank.Of the lot, I think that GTBank stands head above everyone of them in terms of customer service and other features.
I really dont waht to put donw the other bank but GTBank is good.
Imagine, if you have a savings account, you needn;t carry any pass book-just know your account number and you are ready to withdraw.

They are also the only Nigerian bank that does not forbid the use of mobile phones(petty?)
I have had to use STB once and it reminded me of the old people's bank.there were juist too many people in their halls and they just seem to build branches and collect people's money.It is a msses bank but not the kind of bank you would be bold to say 'thats my bank'

The last time I was there, I tried to send just a toekn to my sister in Ibadan and when she told me that she was charged for withdrawing the money i paid into her account in Lagos, I knew then that GTBank was the bank.

Well my experience is very relative because it is not for my alma mater perse but a fellwoship within the school.For networking as Seun said and alos becuase we tend to spend a sizeable part of our formative years in such instuitutions where our career choices are moulded, we tend to stick together beyond those periods.

Much of what we do now is online and we are trying to bring everyone together for a schorlarship project for those in te school as well as help to create other benefits we wished we had while we were students.There is still much to be done.

The key is to create some value for the gathering otherwise people do not wnat to just gather to see old friends.oNce that is done, the people will join gradually.

I have been reading what I consider the most passionate contributions I have ever read since I joined this forum.You guys have made me really proud.I am In Nigeria and I have loads of friends in the Uk and in North America. An Issue with the same theme came up weeks ago on a group I help moderate and the most incisive contribution was made by one of the members based in the UK.He said the 'going to the Uk because it is better' is just a myth as many who have gone are too ashamed to come back to Nigeria and face some of their mates who havce against all odds made some progress with ther lives.what I got from his contribution was that some Nigerians-the category who have been the nsubject of discussion on this topic- suffer from Inferiority complex and they allow the people they mee to strip them of their right to be pround of their Heritage.

In my NYSC days, I worked with a citizen of the UK and her friends who were in Nigeria on VSO assigments and thorugh discussions we had and the friendship we nurtured for about one year(she has stayed behind to settle in Nigeria), I have come to understand that this thing are more personal than institutional.

Someone once said that 'If you are a Lizard in Nigeria,going to America will not make you a crocodile'.These individuals are people allow their self esteem to be regulated by how the people they are trying to impress see them.History and research have proven that these individuals usually do not mount to much in life.They wont go through teh path less taken.In actual fact, Nigeria does not need them.We can afford to donate them to Jamaica and other country they adopt.
