Victim of the group assault in FUTA, Boluwatife Adekunle, recently spoke with Sahara reporters and narrated what led to the assault.
Recall some few days ago, a video showing a group of student of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, beating up a 100 level student went viral.

The victim narrated to Sahara reporters how the whole incidence came to be. According to her, she was assaulted by her colleagues for revealing how one of their boyfriends tried to have an affair with her.

“The whole issue started few weeks ago. I and one of the ladies in the video called ‘Faith’ were roommates in a hostel outside campus. Her boyfriend began asking me out but I felt it was not proper for me to date him. I rejected his advances. But instead of him to leave me alone, the guy kept disturbing me, so I had to report him to Faith because I don’t want trouble.”, she said.

“Before then, I had been having some issues with Faith as she had been living a wayward life on campus which I didn’t like. From that point, she started seeing me as talking bad about her to people around our area. During this period, her boyfriend kept pestering me to date him but I refused. Instead of Faith to caution her boyfriend, she accused me of planning to sleep with her man.”



When asked how she found herself in the room with the group of students who beat her up, she revealed that she was lured by the said roommate.

“On the day that I was assaulted, she invited me to a room in one of the hostels and boyfriend and other ladies were inside the place already. Immediately I entered the place, they locked the door and asked me to kneel down while the guy was asking if he ever asked me for a date. Since I refused to kneel down, they began to beat me and also tried to strip me naked. They used a stick to hit me on my head and punched me on my face. The guy used horsewhip to flog me several times. They said they would make sure they disgraced me on campus, I pleaded with them but they refused and I was about to faint when they stopped beating me. As I speak, I feel pains all over my body due to the beatings. Their plan was to kill me. I want them arrested and face the consequences of their action.”

The victim’s mother, Mrs Florence Adekunle, speaking on the issue says all she wants is justice for her daughter.

According to her,

“I was in the church on Sunday when her brother called me that they saw Boluwatife in a video and she was beaten up. I can’t imagine how friends would treat a fellow student like this. I’m aware that the school authority and even the police have taken up the matter, all the same we want justice.”

There are reports that Burna Boy’s planned show in South Africa has been canceled amid the controversies surrounding it.

It would be recalled that gistcandy reported that South African artistes protested against Burna Boy performing at the show and also queried the exclusion of local artiste at the expense of Nigeria’s Burna Boy who they have accused of inciting hatred against South Africa, in the wake of the recent xenophobic attacks.


According to South Africa’s media house, Timeslive, the organizers decided to cancel the show because of the outrage it had created.

It also reports that the organizers of the show talked with Burna Boy’s management and decided to withdraw him from the concert and cancel his show.

“The decision to cancel the Africans Unite Concert comes after the call from the Tshwane Entertainment Collective to boycott the Africans Unite concert in Tshwane. With the increasing threats of violence from other unfortunate segments of the public and without any government intervention, Phambili Media and Play Network Africa were prompted to take the threats and warnings seriously, as the safety of all artists and attendees could not be guaranteed. We then decided to cancel the concert. The safety of all attendees, artists, and crew comes first,” the statement reads.

Azeez Fashola known professionally as Naira Marley no doubt has been a great influence not just in Nigeria but also in the world at large.

On this same day, last year, media personality, Tosyn Bucknor gave up the ghost at the age of 37.

Tosyn Bucknor, was a Nigerian media personality, actress and social media content creator.

At the time of her death, she was married to a French man, Aurelien Boyer, who found her dead on the night of Monday, November 19th, 2018.

She was buried on November 29th at the Ikoyi cemetery. Read the emotional poem her hubby wrote below;

Joe Abdallah, popularly known as Bad Human Design, joined the BBNaija show midway but during his short stay in the house, his impact was highly felt and recognized by most of the housemates and the viewers at large.

It would be recalled that earlier today, gistcandy reported that the court threw out Busola Dakolo’s case against Biodun Fatoyinbo.

However, Busola Dakolo, wife of singer Timi Dakolo, says she will be approaching a superior court after the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja dismissed her rape case against Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA this morning, November 14.


In a statement released by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Busola refuted claims that Fatoyinbo has been exonerated by the court.

“We have received several calls after the ruling of the high court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Bwari this morning seeking our view on the decision of the court, hence, this statement.

The court ruled that the matter is statute-barred because the events that crystallised to the cause of action took place 16 years ago and that the claimant Mrs. Busola Dakolo has only six years within which to seek redress in court in line with the statute of limitation.

We are mindful of the decision as delivered by the court, presided over by the Hon. Justice A.O Musa. We are equally observant of the fact that the Court omitted to address the cause of action, the subject matter of the suit in determining whether it has jurisdiction to entertain the said matter.

“While we acknowledge the time of the court, we know in accordance with the Nigerian judicial system that the Court’s decision is not final as it is glaringly contestable.

Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, is scheduled to headline the Africa Unite Concert in South Africa after vowing not to set foot on the country again following the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and foreign immigrants living in the country in September 2019

Some artiste under the aegis of Tshwane Collective have protested his inclusion in the concert which is scheduled for the 23rd and 24th of November.

The South African artists in their protest are calling into question the exclusion of local artiste at the expense of Nigeria’s Burna Boy who they have accused of inciting hatred against South Africa, in the wake of the recent xenophobic attacks.

Kanye West has openly declared he will be contesting for the position of the president of the United States of America while speaking at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival in the US.

He has officially reveal his plans to run for the number one position in the United States of America in 2024.

He further talked about how black voters in the US have been segregated to the demographics. He said he has experienced it as an African American fashion designer.

“As black designers out of America, you can’t have an opinion, you can only be the consumer, you can only be a demographic. That a boardroom says ‘this is the black demographic. This is who you’re supposed to vote on,” he continued.

Contrary to old practice where entertainers in Nigeria contributed less in political matters, the social space in the last year, has greatly taken account of a whole lot of Nigerian celebrities engaging in democratic issues.

In retrospect to the conversations across social media, this evolution was triggered by the numerous condemnations dished out by their fans who criticized their favorite celebrity for not using their influence in addressing democratic matters across the country.

Grieved fans even went as far as establishing comparison between Nigerian entertainers, who constantly hid under the shadow of cowardice, and foreign entertainers, who consistently indulge themselves in defending the people using their social influence.

But that has changed! As a matter of fact, the giants of the music industry, in particular, have led and collaborated with parastatals as a representation of their involvement in socio-political matters.

In this article, we shall be considering the music Industry as our focal point. More specifically, we would be evaluating some artiste’ involvement and complementing it with a suitable corresponding role if they were politicians.

However, the basis for determining their fit in politics was assessed by some variables we considered; their posts on social media, manner with which they lent their voices to matters surrounding the nation, their ability to influence other artists, the kind of authority they wield in the society and most importantly the messages they passed through their songs.

But before I begin, our opinions might not conform with yours, so do well to disagree with us in the comment section.

Over the years, Don Jazzy has proven not just to be a musician and a businessman but also an activist both on social media and in the society. Nigerian Actress, Halima Abubakar has taken to Instagram to support the fact that nothing is wrong in parents checking if their daughter’s hymen has been broken.

This is coming after American rapper, T.I broke the internet with a strange news that bares that he goes to the doctor with his daughter, Deyjah Harris, yearly to check if her hymen is still intact.

Deyjah’s 18, just graduated high school now and she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen.

So it’s this one time we go, I think this might have been after her 16th birthday. This is what we do. Right after the birthday, we celebrate. Usually, like the day after the party, she’s enjoying her gifts.

And so then they come and say, ‘Well I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding and just other forms of athletic physical activity.’

So I say, ‘Look doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously. I will say as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

However, since the news broke out, most of the social media users have been condemning the act, saying it’s an act of being overprotective, while others feel it’s a good move as it ensures the chastity of the child.

Well, Halima seems to be on the supporting side of the argument as she also stated the experience she had with her dad doing the same for her when she was younger.

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, 6th of November, 2019, that the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, have met the bail conditions imposed on them in respect of their trial on charges of treasonable felony.

Falana, who is their lawyer, said the defendants would be freed later on Wednesday.

He said this while asking for an adjournment of the case because the Department of State Service in whose custody the defendants have been detained and from where they were produced in court on Wednesday.

He said, “I have already explained to the learned prosecuting counsel that we are encumbered by the refusal of the State Security Service to allow us to prepare for the defence of the defendants.

“I had already asked my learned counsel for the prosecution, that we are confident that the defendants will be freed today (Wednesday) from the custody of the SSS having met the bail conditions imposed on them by this honourable court.

“Once they are liberated from the custody of the SSS, we will be in a position to take full instruction from them.”

Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), who appeared for the second defendant at the Wednesday’s proceedings, also confirmed the development.

But the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Hassan Liman (SAN), opposed the application for adjournment because the charges were filed and served on the defendants as far back as September 20.

He said the defendants had “ample time and opportunity to prepare for their defence”.
