Pastor Bakare displaying his APC presidential form Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (formerly Latter Rain Assembly) has picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination forms. Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja after paying for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, Bakare said he would change the country’s narrative by enthroning good governance if elected president. The APC forms cost N100 million. Bakare said that he believed in God for the right leadership for Nigeria. “I trust God helping us with men of goodwill, East, West, North and South of the country and across party lines, male and female we will rise and rebuild our nation. “This will be in such a way that the devastation we are experiencing, we would see it no more. “Our programme is very simple: peace, prosperity, progress and possibilities. Upon those four pillars Nigeria will be rebuilt and the hope of many citizens will be rekindled. “We are all going to join hands to make it happen. No other nation will fix our nation for us,’’ Bakare said. He added that it would take Nigerians from all walks of life, within and in the Diaspora to join hands together to build the country in the interest of all. He spoke on his views on the array of aspirants in the 2023 presidential race and the possibility of the presidency shifting to the South. He said God rules in the affairs of men and He gives power to whoever He wills. “A Southerner is a Nigerian, a Northerner is a Nigerian. “We trust God that the best, the fittest and the most competent will emerge and the one who truly loves our people, especially the poor will rise to fix our nation,’’ the pastor-politician said. “There is only one seat. Whoever wins, the rest of us most rise to support him to rebuild Nigeria, East, West, North or South, Nigeria is our country,’’ he stressed. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bakare was President Muhammad Buhari’s Vice-Presidential candidate in 2011 on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change. 2023: "There is no abracadabra about funding government projects, the money must come from somewhere. And you don't have to borrow. Obasanjo withheld Lagos state's monthly federation allocation for 4 years when I was governor, yet we developed Lagos and paid salaries without borrowing. I will replicate the same feat as president of Nigeria". - Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Don’t Listen To Buhari, Visit Scenes Of Terrorist Attacks, Prof Banji Akintoye Tells UN Secretary Yoruba Nation arrowhead, Prof Banji Akintoye, has urged the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, not to listen to Nigeria’s President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), but to visit scenes of herdsmen and terrorists’ attacks. Akintoye also informed Guterres, who arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day official visit, that the country is a failed state. In a statement signed on Wednesday and made available to reporters by his Communications Manager, Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye said Buhari has mismanaged Nigeria’s diversity and ethnicity by running a “government of the Fulani by the Fulani and for the Fulani.” The statement was titled, ‘Your Visit to Nigeria, a charade if you don’t visit the theatres of the criminality of Fulani terrorists in South, Middle-Belt – Akintoye tells UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres’. “Your Excellency cannot get the true picture of how close to the precipice Nigeria is unless you visit the theatres of the criminality of this government. Visit the Middle Belt, behold the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen and marvel. Visit the Southwest. “Visit Ifon, also in Ondo State, whose traditional ruler was murdered by Fulani herdsmen. Visit Southern Kaduna where ethnic cleansing is a daily activity of the murderous Fulani nihilists. The same thing is happening in Taraba, Plateau, Niger, Ogun and Oyo states where Fulani herdsmen maim, rape, kill farmers and destroy farmlands in their land-grabbing drive across the southern region of the country. “Your Excellency, the list is endless! And the atrocities have not abated. The Buhari administration refuses to allow the victims arm and defend themselves whereas the murderers are allowed to roam about with AK-47 looting, raping, maiming, and killing,” Akintoye was quoted as saying. He continued, “You must be aware of how the secret security service of the Buhari administration invaded the home of Yoruba self-determination activist, Sunday Adeyemo Ighoho, killing and maiming innocent and law-abiding citizens and destroying property worth millions of dollars. “The Nigerian court system has described the invasion as a lawless and vagrant violation of Igboho’s rights. Costs running into billions of Naira were awarded against the Nigerian government. “But the Buhari government is lawless and cherry-picks which court decisions to obey and which to disregard. In saner climes which I am sure you are familiar with, the law is no respecter of persons and court judgments are binding on all. Not so the Buhari administration! “Hence, the generally acclaimed estimation of Nigeria today as a failed state. But before the situation gets out of hand, please act quickly!”

Akwa Ibom State Government has commenced the training and learning of Chinese language for its workforce following the rising fortunes of China globally and the need for relevance in the emerging economic matrix. Already, the first batch of over 20 workers in the state government employment has commenced an intensive two months training at the Juuldaam Chinese Language Study Centre in Uyo. The Chinese Language Training programme for government employees was inaugurated by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong language Wednesday. He said the state government was moved to take up the training programme because Chinese companies are fast becoming a strong force to reckon with globally and their companies are currently undertaking highbrow businesses in Akwa Ibom State. Ememobong posited that with so many Chinese companies signed-on for massive erosion control and road construction work in the state, including CRBC, CCECC, Wizchino (WE), MCC among others, it has become expedient for the government to take more interest in learning Chinese language to ease interpretation of MoU and contract agreements between the state government and the Chinese firms. This, he said, made the Chinese Language training to came to the fore, and the Ministry of Information and Strategy being the custodian of spokespersons for the government took the bull by the horn in putting up a screening committee to select Information Officers to be trained in Chinese language for future service as interpreters for government in all business transactions involving Chinese companies. According to the commissioner, “The safest people to interpret for the government are the civil servants, and the establishment in which such crop of workers is domiciled is the Ministry of Information. “Also, in considering the fact that the contractual documents may be written in foreign language, there must be quality control in the translation in order to ensure that government interest is protected at all times, and that can only be guaranteed by a government employee.” While thanking the screening committee for a job well done, the commissioner congratulated the first batch of Information Officers participating in the training exercise, and urged them to embrace the opportunity wholeheartedly in order to justify the enormous investment made by the government in the Chinese Language training. Also, the Regional Manager of Juuldaam Training Academy and lead training Consultant, Dr. Anthony Akadi, had explained that the acquisition of foreign languages would enable learners to be more open-minded to the culture and values of the foreigners, which would in turn promote trust in business deals. Akadi said with the state fast becoming a destination for investors, any deliberate attempt at investing in lingual training for government employees is a good strategy to eradicate communication barriers during international procurement, contract signing and project execution. While speaking also, a Chinese Language lead instructor, Dr. Idongesit Etim, allayed fears about the complexity of learning the Chinese Language among students, stating that like every other language, learning and understanding the Chinese language requires concentration, patience and a good mindset.

2023: Very suspicious – EFCC told to immediately probe Malami over 200 SUVs’ Gift To APC leaders. Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, on Tuesday, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), who allegedly distributed over 200 exotic sport utility vehicles to politicians in Kebbi State to influence the May governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in the North-West state. HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said it is illegal enough that Malami declared his ambition to succeed Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi in May 2023, without resigning his position as a minister according to the Electoral Act. The group described as untenable and diversionary, Malami’s denial that it was his friends and associates who donated and distributed the vehicles just as the rights group challenged the Federal Attorney General and Minister of Justice to publish the list of his friends that donated those cars as he reportedly claimed and also furnish Nigerians with the receipts of purchases of the vehicles so Nigerians from all over the world can easily make an inquiry from the sellers if they are overseas. HURIWA said it is relying on the Freedom Of Information Act to make the demand public. In a statement after the photos of the lush vehicles went viral, Malami’s spokesman, Umar Gwandu, claimed, “It was friends and associates of Malami who donated and distributed vehicles to long term workers in the Khadimiyya Foundation.” However, HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “The excuse of the AGF through his aide is the same ambiguous and one-sided strategy that all politicians use during campaigns. “They use phantom groups as an alleged shield to divert what is alleged to be ill-gotten money and fund campaign expenses, as corroborated by Transparency International recently which raised the alarm that support groups use stolen funds to purchase exotic cars for party delegates and party forms politicians. “It is very suspicious that the so-called chief law officer who has been in charge of the recovery of foreign loots including those of the late Sani Abacha and James Ibori is involved in this bogus donation of cars to party delegates even if remotely through his affiliates and friends. “He could have dissuaded those so-called friends not to proceed with this illegality given his frontline role as the Premier Cabinet-level officer in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari that lay claims to fighting corruption. “The EFCC must probe Malami and his so-called friends whose names are not mentioned by the AGF’s spokesman. Who are they? What is their pedigree to afford 200 lush SUVs? “The anti-corruption agency must quit its keeping cool whilst ministers like Malami allegedly fritter millions buying cars for delegates, buying nomination forms. So we aren’t indicating the minister of Justice but we are of the humble opinion that there have to be FULL DISCLOSURES on the donors if any. “It is also important to state that the EFCC is complicit in corruption by refusing to probe the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi; and other serving ministers, governors, and appointees who have purchased the exorbitant N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling APC. “The silence and inaction of the Rasheed Bawa-led EFCC can instigate a big protest worst than EndSARS if nothing is done to reassure Nigerians that EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission are not already hijacked by corrupt politicians.” HURIWA further slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to compel his appointees to comply with the provision in the Electoral Act that demands that political appointees should resign before pursuing any electoral ambition. Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act reads, “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.” HURIWA said even without any clearly stated statute, it is unethical for those who still enjoy public salaries to divert the resources and time for which the public pays them as servants of the people as ministers to engage in the selfish pursuit of political aspiration. Onwubiko added, “It is not surprising that the same AGF had gone to court surreptitiously as alleged by some persons in the corridors of power and even some sources in government who wouldn’t speak publicly for fear of retribution from the powerful minister who single-handedly railroaded the EFCC Chairman into office and allegedly lobbied (We are not alleging bribery) Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, to nullify the section of the amended Electoral Act. “The alleged action of the AGF if found out by the government investigators like the Nigeria Police Force or EFCC turns out to be true then it is illegal and then it would be regarded as a clear case of a hidden agenda laced with corrupt motives.”

The leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Preachers in Nigeria, has thrown its weight behind agitations for a Nigerian President of Southern extraction, urging all political parties to zone their presidential tickets to the south. This was contained is a statement signed on Monday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Sheikh Muhammad Nourayn Ibn-Ahmad. The Council, which insisted that a Southern Presidency in 2023 was non-negotiable, observed that the Northern region would have had its turn of eight years in the Presidency at the end of the Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2023. This is the highest call from any single bloc in the North, in what appears to be a rallying call in support of intense agitations from Middle Belt Forum, Afenifere and Ohanaeze, the Yoruba and Igbo socio-cultural groups respectively. The Council urged their followers and the Muslim faithfuls “to consider a power shift to the Southern region in all their political deliberations ahead of the 2023 general elections in the interest of fairness, justice and equity.” It also expressed concerns about the senseless killings in the land and prayed for a speedy end to the country’s insecurity. The Council prayed for “a speedy end to incidents of banditry, kidnapping and the general insecurities across the country and urged Muslim faithfuls to imbibe lessons of the Ramadan Bibarakatullah.” The leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Preachers in Nigeria, has thrown its weight behind agitations for a Nigerian President of Southern extraction, urging all political parties to zone their presidential tickets to the south. [BREAKING] Terrorism charge: Nnamdi Kanu heads to Appeal Court. The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has dragged the Federal Government to the Court of Appeal to challenge the amended seven charges on terrorism granted by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja. He was challenging the decision of the court as contained in the ruling and final decision retaining counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 of the amended charge, delivered on April 8, 2022. A copy of the court processes was obtained by journalists in Abuja on Monday. The PUNCH reported that Justice Nyako had struck out eight out of the 15-count treasonable felony charge filed against Kanu by the Federal Government. While Justice Nyako struck out counts 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12,13 and 14 of the charge, she okayed Kanu’s trial on counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15. The striking out of counts 6,7,9,10,11,12,13 and 14 of the charge followed an application Kanu filed to quash the entire charge against him. Kanu had in the application he filed through his team of lawyers, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, maintained that the charge against him was legally defective. He had argued that the court lacked the jurisdiction to try him on the strength of an incompetent charge. Ozekhome had told the court that his client was “unlawfully, brutally and extraordinarily renditioned from Kenya without his consent”. He had argued that since some of the allegations leveled against Kanu, were purportedly committed outside the country, the court, therefore, lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the charge. “The charges appears to give this court a global jurisdiction over offences that were allegedly committed by the defendant, without specifying the location or date the said offences were committed”. He argued that under the Federal High Court Act, such charge must disclose specific location where the offence was committed. However, lawyer to the Federal Government, Shuaibu Labaran, had prayed the court to strike out Kanu’s application and order the prosecution to open its defence. He argued that the application would touch the substance of the case that is yet to be heard. But Kanu in the suit at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal filed by Ozekhome and Ejiofor, said the the trial Judge erred in law by failing to “consider, make finding of facts and accordingly pronounce on issue one raised for the trial court’s determination, relating to the extraordinary rendition of the appellant, and thereby occasioned a miscarriage of justice.” Among the reliefs being sought-after in the appellate court included, “an order of this Honourable court allowing the appeal and setting aside in its entirety, the ruling/final decision of the learned trial court, retaining counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 of the amended charge. “An order of this Honourable court upon granting relief a above, dismissing the remaining counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 and, accordingly discharging the appellant on those counts. “An order of this Honourable court terminating the entire charge and discharging the appellant. “And for such further order or orders as the Honourable court may deem fit to make in the circumstances of this appeal.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to strike military targets in the UK after Britain supplied weapons to Ukraine. Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the hits could be authorised against Nato member states. She said: “Do we understand correctly that for the sake of disrupting the logistics of military supplies, Russia can strike military targets on the territory of those Nato countries that supply arms to the Kyiv regime?” “After all, this directly leads to deaths and bloodshed on Ukrainian territory. As far as I understand, Britain is one of those countries.” It comes as pro-Putin TV anchor Vladimir Solovyov threatened to blow “boorish Britain” using the deadly 16,000mph Satan 2 nuke, over the UK’s support for Ukraine. “As it turned out, one Sarmat means minus one Great Britain,” he said on the Kremlin-controlled state TV channel. Russia successfully launched the missile earlier this month with Putin warning the test was “food for thought for those who try to threaten Russia,” A video showed the killer missile being launched from an underground silo, triggering an enormous fireball. It travelled almost the entire length of Russia – almost 3,600 miles – in around 15 minutes and landed at Kura Missile Test Range on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Meanwhile, Russia’s foreign minister warned a nuclear world war is now a “real” danger as British and Nato weapons are already “legitimate” targets in Ukraine.

2023 Presidency: IPOB Warns Wike To Stay Clear Of South East The members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have warned the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike to stay clear of the South-East in his bid to become the president of Nigeria in the 2023 general elections. The pro-Biafran group alleged that Governor Wike has once denied having any links with the Southeast geo-political zones in the past, hence should keep off the region as he tries to canvas for votes. The secessionist group in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful condemned Wike’s recent visit to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, stressing that the governor’s visit to the Southeast is highly provocative. According to the group, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant has denied being an Igboman; hence visiting the Southeast may consume him, adding that he should be ashamed of himself for begging Igbos for votes. The group recalled the killings in Obigbo, Rivers State, IPOB vowed to go all out against anybody who hosts Wike in the Southeast. The statement read, “We, the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU condemn the recent visit by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to Obi of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe in Anambra State. The visit is part of the reasons the youths are not happy with Igbo leaders. “IPOB will not take it lightly on any person who intends to host Nyesom Wike in the hinterland after the genocide he committed in #Obigbo, and he declared that he is not an Igboman. “Wike is a genocidist and should not be forgiven. His father took over Igbo property in the name of abandoned property and he trained Wike with the money he accumulated from abandoned property he collected from Igbo people in Igweocha after the war of genocide against the Igbo people in 1970, which moved Wike to hate anything associated with Igbo but he should not come for Igbo vote. We are warning him. “Gov, Nyesom Wike committed genocide against the people in his state claiming he is not Igbo man and today he became an Igbo man because of political interest and votes he needs from Igbo land. “Wike refused to understand that a time like this will come in his life. Wike should be ashamed of himself because he could openly beg Igbo people for one vote in the election.” “Is Wike coming to urinate on the graves of the Igbo youths he slaughtered in Obigbo during the #EndSARS protests? His visits to any Igbo state is highly provocative because some of the Igbo youths taken into several security cells in the Northern states are yet to return. “Wike and his advisers should stop daring IPOB and Igbo youths. Wike’s family, friends and associates should advise him to stay off any state in Igbo land because it may consume him, anybody who knows him should let him know that. “We are equally warning any traditional ruler, PG, Chief, elder, Governor or anybody who will invite Wike in any part of Igbo land to tread with caution because that amounts to challenging Igbo youths and IPOB members. “Those hosting Wike now, where were they when Wike was ordering the killing of Igbo youths at Obigbo? They all maintained criminal silence then. Are they now rewarding him for killing Igbo youths? Love for money has enslaved elders and traditional rulers who should know better but we won’t tolerate that anymore. “Wike cannot be going about celebrating in Igbo states which he denied having any links with after ordering the execution of Igbo youths and suspected IPOB members. This is iniquity against the innocent victims of his wicked actions. “Wike said he was not Igbo and we have taken him by his words that he is not Igbo and can never become Igbo man because he hates Igbo with passion. “We respect Igwe Achebe because he is a respected traditional ruler in Igbo land but we want him and others to keep a distance from Wike because Wike hates Igbo if they don’t know and if they don’t retrace their steps let the public never blame us. “Those Wike arrested and handed over to Fulani controlled federal government in Abuja are still there till today languishing in different security detentions. We managed to release more than a thousand (1000) innocent citizens both men and women most of whom were raped at these security detentions and dungeons. “Considering all his wickedness to the Igbo youths at Obigbo in Rivers State, we declare that Wike has no moral ground to even contemplate not of the temerity to want to visit any part of Igbo land. He is, therefore, not welcome to any Igbo State. Wike cannot be coming to Igbo land to spit and dance on the graves of those he unjustly slaughtered and we all know that he is a demented fellow

Former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo has recommended the formation of state police system to curb the insecurity in the country. Obasanjo said this when he received the leadership of the Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday. The former president suggested that the security threat in Nigeria requires such an approach and argued that it remains a better option than community policing. “Our situation in Nigeria concern everyone, particularly the case of terrorism – the case has gotten over the issue of community police,” Obasanjo said. “It is now state police. It is from that state police that we can now be talking about community police.” Obasanjo also spoke on the need to strengthen the traditional system and the local government administration to function as the closest institutions to the people, providing for their immediate needs. He recalled the Murtala/Obasanjo administration initiated the third tier of government to work truly like a local government, having its own executive, judiciary and legislature. Obasanjo said the local governments “were working, and they were very visible, building and managing roads, looking into education, health, local administration, agriculture, but they were all gone.” The former president said the former chairmen’s experience in local government administration was enough to aspire for higher posts, stressing that some of them have the competence, ability and integrity to get to those posts. Obasanjo commended the initiative behind the formation of the body, adding that the development clearly showed that some local chairmen in the country were better than even the top elected leaders. The pioneer national chairman of the association, Albert Ashipa; the Ogun State chapter chairman, Shoyemi Coker; the BOT chairperson, Chinwe Monu-Olarewaju; and the traditional ruler of Odogbolu, Toye Mojeed Alatise, were among those present. Ashipa had earlier told Mr Obasanjo why they came together in all the 774 local governments in the country. He said they are convinced they can also contribute to the economy and political developments of the country. “And realising your position as father of local government in Nigeria, we need you to actualize our goals, hence this all-important visit. And to come and say happy 85th birthday celebration,” Ashipa said.

Miyetti Allah members now fleeing Nigeria to escape bandits’ attacks, cattle rustling – MACBAN secretary-general, Usman Solomon Odeniyi. The Secretary-General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, Ngelzeerma Usman, speaks with SOLOMON ODENIYI about the recent killing of the association’s chairman and members in Abuja by Fulani bandits Members of your association were killed and others kidnapped in Abuja. How is your association taking this? Our Chairman in the Gwagwalada area council was killed with one Gwari man and two other persons. They were ambushed by bandits and killed and in the process four other people were also kidnapped. It happened on April 7 around 8 o’clock in the evening. They were coming from a cattle market on the road to Daku village. They took away from them the proceeds of the cows they sold and they are demanding N100m ransom to free those kidnapped. Does it mean these attackers, believed to be of same ethnicity with you, don’t have respect for Miyetti Allah members? Are our members different from the other public members? Of course, not. Their cattle are being taken away by bandits on a daily basis; they are being kidnapped and killed by bandits. It is the same thing that is happening to communities in the North-West and the northeastern part of the country. Our people are not different from other citizens that are coming under attacks by bandits. We understand that, as an association, we must safeguard the interest and welfare of our members. When things like this happen we always ask government to take action and protect everybody in society. The way these things are happening is really scary and our members are the most affected. Since majority of these bandits belong to the same ethnic group as you, has your association tried speaking to them, to persuade them to stop these unprovoked attacks? There is no doubt that a large number of them are Fulani, but this, of course, does not stop them from killing many (of our people) and taking away cows from the pasture at the same time. A criminal can come from any tribe and they don’t select their victims. Whoever comes their way; they kill, kidnap and take away their cows. However, our appeal to the government is, though they are doing their best, they should redouble their efforts in protecting the cattle breeders and other Nigerians alike against the activities of this criminal group. Beef is the most consumed meat in the country. Is there fear that bandits’ attacks on your members may lead to scarcity of beef? 20 Niger residents fleeing bandits attack in overloaded boat drown It (the attacks) has already affected supply in major parts of the country because cow meat has been the major source of protein in the country. Go to the market and price meat and compare the current price with the price of last year. You will realise that the price has skyrocketed. And it is not an imported commodity that we will say the price is being influenced by the dollar-naira exchange rate. Beef is locally sourced, purchased in naira and sold in naira, yet you’ll realise that the price of meat has skyrocketed by about 100 per cent, if not more. Undoubtedly, this is not unconnected with the activities of bandits who are rustling our members’ cows. The livestock industry is all already failing. The producers are being rendered poor; the meat no longer comes to the market in large quantity because some of the pastoralists are trying to move out of the country for fear of attacks by bandits, who forcefully take their cows from them. We have lost about 15 per cent of the pastoralists. Others are also trying to move out of the country to where they can find shelter and protection for their lives and cattle. The livestock industry is already affected; a visit to the butchering markets shows the reality. In Niger State alone, over 5,000 cattle have been rustled; our statistics show that all over the country, about three million cows have been lost to rustling since the beginning of this banditry, insurgency and what have you. I could remember an attack in Niger State in February, in just one day, 120 cows were rustled from pastoralists. So, the pastoralists are not being spared by the kidnappers, who attack them on a daily basis. And because of the rate at which our members’ cattle are being taken away, so many families have been rendered poor and you know they don’t have formal education to survive on, the only career and skill they have is to rear cattle, they don’t know anything. And when these cows are taken away from them, they become idle and an idle hand is the devil’s workshop. They become an easy prey for initiation into criminality. No education, no work, idleness, poverty and possession of arms, what do you expect to happen? What is the way forward? These are difficult times for the pastoralists because after being kidnapped, whatever money they make from selling cattle in the market they give to the bandits as ransom to secure their freedom. Yet that’s the only source of livelihood they have. When you kidnap their wives, daughters and others relations, the only option they have is to sell their cows to pay the ransom and rescue their loved ones from being held, hostage. The way these things are going on is alarming and that’s why we call on the Federal Government to double up efforts in bringing peace to the pastoral industry in the country because not all pastoralists are criminals. Some of them are criminals, we know, but the majority are legitimate cattle rearers doing their business.

2023: Saraki, Tambuwal, Bala Mohammed Others Settle For Consensus Arrangement. The former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and three other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants have agreed on a consensus arrangement ahead of the party’s primary election slated for next month. The other aspirants are the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed and Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. The aspirants disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of their visit to the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, in his Umuobiakwa country home, Obingwa local government area of the state. Saraki, who spoke on behalf of other aspirants, said the decision was informed by their determination to make Nigeria better. He said the lives and welfare of Nigerians are more important than the individual ambition of every aspirant. “Nigerians are going through hardship and insecurity. “These are the events that are happening in the country that make some of us see that we are doing the right thing. “Let me reassure Nigerians that we are very determined and driven by the determination to make this country work. “If this is the sacrifice that we will make to turn things around in Nigeria, we want to let Nigerians know that we are willing to make it.” “We are heading for Enugu to see the governor of the state and by the time we have visited Enugu we would have completed the tour of the 19 PDP states and the governors have shown their support.” The quartet had met severally with other aspirants including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in recent weeks in a bid to reach an agreement on a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s primary slated for May 29.

Northern Elders Bemoan Insecurity, Ask Buhari To Resign. The Northern Elders Forum on Tuesday asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to resign for failing to provide security in the country. The forum made the demand in a statement by its spokesperson, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. It said it was disappointing that after nearly seven years of being in office, Buhari still has no answers to security challenges across the country. The statement read, “The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari does not appear to have answers to the challenges of security to which we are exposed. “We cannot continue to live and die under the dictates of killers, kidnappers, rapists and sundry criminal groups that have deprived us of our rights to live in peace and security. “Our constitution has provisions for leaders to voluntarily step down if they are challenged by personal reasons or they prove incapable of leading. “It is now time for President Buhari to seriously consider that option, since his leadership has proved spectacularly incapable of providing security over Nigerians. Our forum is aware of the weight of this advice, and it is also aware that we cannot continue to live under these conditions until 2023 when President Buhari’s term ends. “Killers and other criminals appear to have sensed a paralysing vacuum at the highest levels of leadership, and they grow more confident and acquire more competence in subverting the State and our security. “Nigerians have shed enough tears and blood without appropriate response from those with responsibilities to protect us.

Nigerians are routinely forced to undergo torrid experiences which in many instances are not unavoidable when people are not sleeping on their jobs and importantly when they evince honour and integrity. The recent fuel crisis in a fitting example. Not a few citizens suffered incalculable damages on their vehicles; then had to relive the unsavoury experience of punishing inconveniences and loss of valuable man-hour and time on long winding queues precipitated by the bad fuel that simply slithered through what is supposed to be a thorough quality test process. Since then, we have been awaiting government action; however, they seem to have succeeded in allowing the matter slide into oblivion without a fall guy in their net. And, it was plain that no official was on the edge because they knew it will remain business as usual. Also, the state of insecurity offers a sobering tale of absence of moral responsibility. The brazen attacks and abductions no least the one recorded on the Abuja-Kaduna train despite humongous investment on security is strong enough reason for someone to spontaneously resign. We have simply overlooked the fact that public office is built on trust and have allowed personal aggrandizement to cast heavy shadow over public interest. It is trite to assert that we have got people of honour in short supply- public officers that are ready to take moral responsibility for their action or inaction as well as for those within their sphere of influence. And, that is where honour and integrity come to play. In effect, people with honour and integrity will not flow with the current when is against their principles to do so; will exhibit the courage of their conviction and make their words a strong bond; their integrity will always shine through and will be ready to head to the exit door when it come under threat. And, they are people always at hand to offer uncomfortable counsel without fear to their masters and will always reflect the standards of their calling and office in their work and exercise incorruptibility and accountability posture. Such people will simply lay down their tools in the face of honour tarnishing circumstances and against personal principles. In the cases mentioned above somebody should have simply jump or be pushed as stated earlier. Patrick Dobel in his essay “Ethics of Resigning” stated that “resigning from office is a critical ethical decision for individuals. The option to resign reinforces integrity, buttresses responsibility, supports accountability and can provide leverage. The moral reasons to resign flow from three interrelated moral dimensions of integrity. Individuals in office promise to live up to the obligation of the office. The promise presumes that individuals have the capacity to make and keep promises, the competence to do the tasks of office and the ability to be effective…” There’s a surfeit of example of people who have taken the honourable path which remain strange to us. For instance, the former UK prime minister David Cameron showed courage and resigned simply on the strength of his failure on the BREXIT referendum. Interestingly, in one fell swoop the entire Sri Lankan cabinet ministers as well as the central bank governor resigned their positions over the violent protest sparked by the worst economic crisis since independence- foreign exchange scarcity affected imports. In effect, the country is grappling with fuel and food shortages, power cuts etc. In fact, the extreme practice honour and integrity is common in Japan for instance in 2015, Ryoichi Kishi a Japanese committed suicide having blamed himself for the snapping of cable on a bridge which he was part of the design and construction in Turkey. His suicide note reads: “I bear complete responsibility for what happened. Nobody else was at fault.” The public sector is rife with demonstrable cases of financial shenanigans, abuse of office/privileges, incompetence which for the most part, those that are culpable would prefer to stay put. They simply won’t sacrifice their ego, perks of office and financial future. Unfortunately, public officers are unaffected by whatever form of negative public light that is cast on them. I believe so strongly that service to the nation that’s draped in honour would make a world of difference to its growth and development. We need a tectonic shift in our orientation on what public service constitutes. Again, we need to hold people accountable for their actions and inactions and apply the deterrence measure which is consequential. People of honour and integrity have so much to lose and will do anything to protect the rare quality in them. These are the type of men that we need in public service.

LAGOS – Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and the Presidential zoning committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the committee didn’t throw the presidential ticket open as alleged by the media. Ortom who was on Arise Television on Wednesday said that as the chairman of the zoning committee, they didn’t throw the presidential ticket open, they only reverted to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. “It is wrong for anybody to say that we threw open the presidential ticket. We have to revert to NEC. It is wrong for the media to come up with a position, and the media were not members of the committee. During our discussion, the media were not there. “After the meeting, I came out to brief the media, so it was surprising to see the headlines on newspapers, televisions and radios. We have to correct that because it is wrong. According to him, NEC is the final authority on deciding on zoning, stressing that it is true that when the party positions were being zoned he was the deputy chairman of the committee and they agreed as directed by NEC that in zoning party positions they should do it rightly without minding where the president would come from, but restrict ourselves to party positions so that when the time comes for presidential zoning, NEC “I believe in justice and fairness, when the issues came up last year I made my position known. PDP has not yet brought out any report; it will be done by NEC. “I want to appeal to all Nigerians who are passionate because some of them have spoken to me; they want PDP to get it right. We are consciously ensuring that the right thing is done, so I believe that at the end, by the grace of God we will get it right but preempting the committee’s work and NEC’s decision is not right. “I want to appeal that they should allow NEC to invite us to a meeting and soon a decision will be taken. People who have recommendations or observations can present them to the chairman of our party or to some of us, and on the day that we are discussing, we can make their views known,” he said.

Hausa Vigilantes Killing, Slaughtering Fulani Herdsmen As Bandits-Miyetti Allah. According to The SUN, Bodejo expressed outrage at what he called the genocide being perpetrated against Fulani herders by the Hausa in the guise of securing lands in some Northern states. National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, says President Muhammadu Buhari was not to blame for the attack on the Kaduna-bound train, insisting that everyone should be concerned with security. He said, “They’re not Fulani, because it is very difficult for a Fulani man to kill a fellow Fulani. They are Hausa. I repeat, no Fulani will kill another Fulani. If there is one Fulani among them, he would not support the others to go and kill his brother. “Before, Kaduna and Zamfara states governors have called for the ban of these vigilance groups because they are responsible of these killings in the North. “Youths would gather and say they want to secure their lands and start killing these Fulani herdsmen in the name of securing their lands. I don’t think the constitution permits even the police or the army to kill any person when he is arrested. “The Hausa in these states are committing genocide against Fulani herdsmen there. From the messaging they are sending to me, what is happening to them there is very scary in the name of securing their lands. “I have emphasised before, these bandits operate from the forests and bushes, and the same place that Fulani herdsmen ply their trade, and when they come to deal with the bandits, they equally extend it to the herders. It is difficult to differentiate between the two groups. There is why we advise whenever there is going to be a military operation to decimate the bandits, Fulani leaders should join them so that the innocent herdsmen are not killed alongside the herdsmen. “When they are bombing the bandits, they also bomb the herdsmen as well, which is not right. If you investigate, you find out that those uniformed men are neither the army nor the policemen. This orgy of killings is affecting our people.”

We knew about Boko Haram’s plans to attack Abuja-Kaduna train, warned NRC beforehand, but.. — El-Rufai Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Friday disclosed that the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday was carried out by Boko Haram insurgents in collaboration with some bandits operating in Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto and Kebbi states. Mr El-Rufai made the disclosure while speaking with the State House correspondents shortly after updating President Muhammadu Buhari on security developments in his state, following the Monday night’s terror attack on Kaduna bound train. The governor, who was sober about recent happenings in his state, told the correspondents that the president had reassured him that drastic measures were being taken to check the activities of terrorists and bandits in Kaduna state and beyond. According to him, security agencies have been making frantic efforts to rescue victims of Monday night’s attack on a Kaduna bound train, from the hands of their abductors. Mr El-Rufa’i, who spoke in Hausa language, emphasised that the gunmen are not kidnappers but members of the Boko Haram terrorists group working in collaboration with bandits. “These ones are not the usual kidnappers but members of Boko who are collaborating with bandits. ”So we were thinking they will ask for a huge ransom form the state government, not the families of their victims. ”So far, they have asked for ransom from just one of the families that were contacted. “As far as the Kaduna state government is concerned, we have not changed our stand on payment of ransom, so, even if they seek for that from us, we will not pay because we are not ready to do so,” he maintained. Mr El-Rufa’i revealed that the state government had received intelligence report that the gunmen were going to strike on the rail line and had intimated the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, on the matter, but no action was taken. “We think this thing happened because we have written twice to the NRC, advising that trains on the Kaduna route should not embark on night trips because we have reports that Boko Haram were in town and they plan to attack the train at night using explosive devices,” he said. He stressed the need for massive bombing of all bandit-infected enclaves including forest areas in the North West and North Central parts of the country. Recall that the Kaduna-bound train, which left Abuja at 6 p.m. on Monday, was attacked by suspected terrorists at about 7.45 p.m., just about 15 minutes’ drive before Kaduna. Eight persons had been officially confirmed dead, 46 hospitalised and several others kidnapped following the attack.

Witches Warn Osinbajo Against Contesting For Presidency, Give Reasons. The White Witches Association of Nigeria, WWAN, has cautioned Vice President Yemi Osinbajo against running for the Presidency in 2023. WWAN said God did not program Osinbajo to become Nigeria’s President in 2023; hence he would not win if he decided to contest. The spokesman of the witches and the former board member of the Edo State Traditional Council during the administration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Dr Iboi Okhue, said God sent Osinbajo for a particular mission. Okhue disclosed that Osinbajo would conclude the mission God sent him on May 29, 2023. He urged the Vice President to return to the pulpit where God has a higher assignment for him than being the “Head of State.” “God sent him to deliver a message to Nigerians. He has done that and he should go back to the church. God will use him in a bigger way other than being a head of state,” Okhue told the Independent. There are indications that Osinbajo may run for the Presidency in 2023. However, his spokesman, Laolu Akande, dismissed such claims, stressing that his principal was focused on working with President Muhammadu Buhari.
