Politics › The True Story Of Ekweremadu's, The Boy, And Daughter Kidney Transplant by Gjrich(op): 11:04pm On Jun 23, 2022
So apparently, Ekweremadu's daughter needed a kidney transplant. She's in the UK.

What Ekweremadu did was to pick a 15 year old homeless orphan living on the streets of Lagos. He said he's sending him to the UK to train him and give him a better life. Seeing as he's a popular figure, the young boy agreed. Any of us in his shoes would have. From homeless living on the streets of Lagos to the UK.

They didn't tell him they wanted to use him as a spare part for their daughter.

They falsified his travel documents and gave him a fake identity. The boy has been in the UK since May or so.

It was while he was in the UK hospital in May that the boy found out they wanted to remove his kidney. Nobody told him!

A 15 year old boy!!!

He told some medical officials that he wasn't aware and that was how the hospital got the police involved. The police didn't burst the case as Nigerian police would have. They continued following it up codedly till now.

Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested at the airport immediately after they entered the UK yesterday. The boy is in police custody and Ekweremadu and his wife then appeared in court for their first hearing today.

Both of them were denied bail and the case was adjourned to July 7th.

Mind you, it's even illegal for a minor to donate organs in the UK. A parent or guardian must authorise it. Of which the Ekweremadus are neither.
So they had to falsify his travel documents and changed his age to 21 so that he can donate freely without legal problems.

Do you think they would have let that boy live after the operation? Of course not.
Because they know he will raise alarm after the surgery and the thing would blow up.

I'm very sure they brought in that boy just for the sole purpose of using him as a spare part and nothing more. That's the reason they falsified his travel documents.

This makes me wonder how many young, poor/homeless teens they must have kidnapped and tested here in Nigeria, before this guy matched with his daughter that they now took him to the UK.
How many homeless teens did they test?
What happens to the ones that didn't match?
Did they send them back to the street where they picked them from or...

I'm so glad they are still in custody. Let's watch how this unfold
Politics › Peter Obi, Gov Wike, Gov Bala Ganging-up In Alliance To Wrest Power From APC by Gjrich(op): 7:22pm On Jun 22, 2022
2023: Peter Obi, Gov Wike, Gov Bala Ganging-Up In Alliance To Wrest Power From The APC.

There are signs that the Presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and other notable politicians in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are working towards a gang-up in alliance to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.

Lately, such governors and PDP top shots have visited the Rivers State Governor in Port Harcourt, the state capital in the build up to the crucial 2023 general elections.

Today, June 22, Governor Wike, who gave a former Vice-president and presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a run for his money at the party’s presidential primary election, received in audience the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

Coming closely on the heels of Obi’s visit was the visit by the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who also participated in the party’s presidential primary poll but was trounced by Wike.

It was learnt that the meeting between Wike and Obi centred on the way forward for Nigeria, especially on strategic collaborations that could produce a Southern presidency in 2023.

See also: Buhari To APC Chairman: Sustain Ekiti APC Victory Till 2023
Wike is a strong advocate of presidency rotating to the South of the country in 2023 after eight years of Northern presidency which is still being held by President Muhammadu Buhari.

While Wike had been assured through his strategic moves that he would upset Atiku and emerge as the party’s candidate, Obi had on his part, resigned from the party over which structure he had no control to stake his presidential bid on the platform of the Labour Party.

Obi had resigned and withdrawn from the PDP primary poll so as to not run fowl of the provisions of the extant laws.

The closed-door meeting between Wike and Obi at the Government House in Port Harcourt, as learnt, dwelled on the issue of southern presidency within the context of the overarching national interest.

Series of meetings, it was learnt, are expected to culminate in significant resolutions that will be salutary to the outcome of the 2023 General Elections, particularly the presidential poll.

Politics › Tinubu, Peter Obi Needs To Withdraw From Presidential Race For Me – Chris Okotie by Gjrich(op): 5:36pm On Jun 20, 2022
Tinubu, Peter Obi needs to withdraw from presidential race for me – Chris Okotie

The founder of the Household of God Church, Chris Okotie, has called on the presidential candidates of the top political parties to allow him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Okotie urged them to support him to head an interim government.

His appeal was specifically addressed to Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP).

“I want to appeal to all presidential candidates to withdraw from the race and allow me to come in as the interim president,” Okotie said.

“I want to implore Asiwaju to support my government for the betterment of the country and I also want to tell Obi that the system that introduced him cannot take him anywhere, because he cannot operate in the system we have now. All the presidential candidates should support me to succeed President Buhari as the interim president.

“We must also rise above tribe and religion because there is an imbalance in the country and we are not practising federalism instead, what we are practising is a presidential system of government.

“Since 1999, things have been declining because the presidential system of government we are practising has failed us.

“We must get rid of the national and state assemblies because maintaining each member costs the country billions of naira. Some of the standing committees at both assemblies are not useful to the country, they are only representing themselves, not the populace.”

Politics › Thanks To Peter Obi, Labour Party The Long Sleeping Giant Is About To Wake Up by Gjrich(op): 10:33pm On Jun 19, 2022
Labour Party, is the next ruling party in Nigeria, but this time, not a one reign wonder like Nigeria's PDP or APC, But a True Power house like Labour Party of UK, Brazil and South Korea.

Labour Party, the workers party, the umbrella representative and home of all workers and association of workers. APC and PDP don't know what's about to hit them, but the hurricane is coming, and will sweep and shake the nation FOR A NEW NIGERIA, A GOOD NIGERIA, A WELL GOVERNED NIGERIA, A PRODUCTIVE NIGERIA.

Thanks to Peter Obi, Labour Party, The long Sleeping Giant is about to wake up in Nigeria and take her rightful place.
If there is a political party that will fix the mess in Nigeria, it will be the one and only Political Force where the workers themselves are also the stakeholders.
A Party where education lecturers and teachers union, and student bodies are themselves major stakeholders and will never neglect the education affairs, including salaries, bonus, allowance and pensions, and properly maintained education infrastructure and school supplies, hence, things like university shutdowns and strikes will be a thing of history.

A party where national association of Engineers and architects are major stakeholders, will never tolerate poor electricity, bad road networks, and poor water supply, even Sports administrations will have a voice and will be had, maybe Nigeria will finally get to have a good and well funded Football leagues, and start performing better in Olympics etc.

With labour Party, The Nigeria Labour Congress and the other many workers associations and unions will finally have a strong voice and be heard in the going concern and dealings of the Country, because they, themselves, are the people ruling the country directly, think about it. I see things like state and local government police being born organically finally, as a result.
No Surprise why the Labour Party is a very powerful political party and movement in the UK, Brazil, South Korea, japan and others, and one of the reasons why these countries are also very well developed, for the simple reason that instead of usual bribery and corruption, the workers reward, the reward of labour is dignity of work and respect, good salary, amenities and entertainments and security, right to good living, good retirement and peace of mind.

Mickykarim:
WHERE IS THE APOLOGY IN THIS REPORTAGE?

Where in his statement did he offer any form of apology to the STINGY man who "He had during his latest ministration at the Adoration ground said that unless God ceases to exist, Obi would never smell the seat of the President adding that it was better to have an old man as President than a ‘stingy young man’.".

YOU MAY NOT KNOW WHAT AN APOLOGY IS.

The Rev Fr, did not apologize to Peter Obi.
In any way, the supporters of Mr Peter Obi feel offended by my utterances or however I was misunderstood by them, I ask for their understanding and forgiveness
Politics › Rev. Father Mbaka Begs Peter Obi For Forgiveness For Calling Him A Stingy Man by Gjrich(op): 10:29pm On Jun 17, 2022
Fiery Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has apologized and prayed for the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

Mbaka made the apology after declaring that Peter Obi can never be Nigeria’s President.

He had during his latest ministration at the Adoration ground said that unless God ceases to exist, Obi would never smell the seat of the President adding that it was better to have an old man as President than a ‘stingy young man’.

The comment by the Catholic priest had stirred diverse reactions from Nigerians who accused him of hating Peter Obi because he refused to donate to his church.

However, the cleric in a statement he personally signed said he had no intention to malign His Excellency, Peter Obi’s image but to pray for him

He, therefore, apologized to Peter Obi and his supporters and prayed that God will bless them.

”I am grateful to God for His unquantifiable and favourable blessings, miracles, love and life for the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria.

I assure the people of God and Nigerians that I am praying for Good Governance and Good Leadership in this country and that God will give us leaders after His own Heart.

”As it stands right now, it is obvious that Nigeria is passing through indescribable insecurity challenges, an inestimable unemployment crisis, massive corruption, heinous crimes, and unbearable suffering engendered by bad leadership. I bear with my fellow countrymen and women in whatever we are passing through in this trying time. I call on the adorers and the entire people of God to join hands in praying that God will deliver us from the plans of the devil and its wicked agents.

”I am a servant of God and my intention is not to malign His Excellency, Peter Obi’s image, but to pray for him. May God’s will be done in his life. I pray to God whom I serve to give our beloved people good and excellent leaders who will take care of them and lead them to the promised land. Anyone who God wishes to make our Leader is my choice. In this vein, I give my blessings to His Excellency Peter Obi and his supporters, I also give my blessings to the other candidates and their supporters whose intention is also to give Nigeria good leaders. In any way, the supporters of Mr Peter Obi feel offended by my utterances or however I was misunderstood by them, I ask for their understanding and forgiveness.

”As a servant of the Most High God, I pray that it shall be well with my people. I am an ardent supporter of Good Governance, Justice, Equity, Love, and Godliness. At this time our people are passing through the valleys of shadows of death (Ps23.4), I pray for peace, love, and anything that will bring blessings and favour to our people and to our suffering teaming youths. I will always stand with you in all your ordeals. God will take care of you and bless you miraculously for me.

”My intention is not to fight or malign Mr. Peter Obi. He is my friend and remains my friend and brother I love him and I wish him Success May God bless him and his good supporters. God’s will be done in his political endeavours (Mk.14:36)

”The followers of Peter Obi are the same youths I am praying for, sacrificing for, fighting for, speaking for, and working for their integral well-being. What the youths are passing through and their conditions give me sleepless nights. It is for this reason that I yearn for good governance and worthy leaders that will take care of them. We are passing through indescribable, unbearable, and undeserved hardship in this country. I pray for Divine intervention.

”I am not in any political party but I support good people and good governance. Any good person that God can give us is my chosen candidate. I am a servant of God; For the sake of peace, I ask for forgiveness in any way I am misunderstood. And to Peter Obi himself, I ask God to bless him and manifest his will in his life. When God says Yes, who can say No? And when God says No, who can say Yes? I bless Peter Obi and pray for him. I bless my dear fellow Adores and pray for them. I bless the people of God everywhere and I pray that it shall be well with you all.

Politics › Bianca Ojukwu: For Sustainability, Nigeria Needs Peter Obi’s Stinginess by Gjrich(op): 9:29pm On Jun 16, 2022
Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of late Biafran leader, Odumegwu Ojukwu has shared a story on the supposed stinginess of Peter Obi.

Ojukwu was reacting to a statement made by a popular cleric, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria, AMEN, Fr Ejike Mbaka who revealed why the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi will never become the next President of Nigeria.

The fiery priest had said to his congregants at the Adoration ground that Mr Obi is stingy and has been cursed, stressing that it would be better to have an old man as President than a ‘stingy young man’.

Bianca’s words, “In Life, you either live by your creed or you desecrate the mould by which the Almighty created you. Any progressive nation measures an individual by his values, not his vaults.

“If this way of life is what is derided as ‘stinginess’ on the part of Peter Obi, then we all need to adopt this mould for a more sustainable and more humane environment.”

NO APOLOGIES, PLEASE, On Peter Obi’s supposed ‘Stinginess’ by Bianca Ojukwu

Sometime in 2009, ‘Mr’(as he preferred to be addressed) Peter Obi, Governor Of Anambra State at the time, visited Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and myself at Dallas, Texas. He came to deliver a get well message from Dr Goodluck Jonathan and was billed to attend a black tie event at the Dallas Marriot.

Curiously, he flew into Dallas airport with one small carry on luggage which he insisted on wheeling around himself, and on getting to our residence requested to freshen up. He opened his carry on, filled with files and paperwork and a few toiletries and an extra shirt, when the Ikemba and I asked if he was expecting another item of luggage, and he said no.
‘Then, what will you be wearing to the event tonight?’, we inquired. It was at that point that it struck him that he couldn’t show up in his casuals at such a ceremony.

I insisted on taking him to the luxury men’s emporium at Nieman Marcus to buy a smart black suit. When we got there, he was busy doing the Dollar to Naira currency conversions. The suit that was a perfect match for him was a dapper Tom Ford suit with a price tag of 3,985 dollars plus tax.

He did the calculations and told me ‘Do you know how many students this amount of money can train in Nigeria?’ I reminded him that he was the governor as well as the special guest, and for the caliber of guests expected at that evening’s occasion, including the mayor, senators and captains of conglomerates amongst others, he needed to be dressed in top form.

To cut the story short, he refused to pay what he termed ’that outrageous price’ for the Tom Ford suit and that was how we ended up at Steinmart where he agreed to pay a more acceptable price of 220 dollars, tax inclusive, for a basic men’s suit which he was happy to wear to that evening’s event.

What struck me, was that as we were on the way to the airport to see him off for his return flight back to Nigeria, he reached for his pocket where he brought out an envelope of crisp hundred dollar bills. The amount in the envelope was 3,800 dollars.

He said ‘ Anyanwu, this is the balance of the money I would have paid for the ‘Ford’ suit. If the label on the suit was ‘Peter Obi’, I am wondering if anybody in America will pay that amount for it. I have deducted the amount we paid for that suit we eventually bought. Please use this balance for your Charity foundation to help those in actual need. I trust you will do so’. We all laughed heartily. Vintage Peter Obi!

The eventual beneficiaries of that Largese were Madam Theresa Agbo, a yam seller who became penniless and displaced when her Yam shed was gutted by fire, Callistus Egbe who was bedridden due to illness, and needed help with the school fees of his young children, and the Mgbemena family of six who were thrown out of their one room accommodation (which we subsequently doubled to two rooms) because their breadwinner fell upon hard times and could no longer afford the rent.

In Life, You either live by your creed or you desecrate the mould by which the Almighty created you. Any progressive nation measures an individual by his values, not his vaults.
If this way of life is what is derided as ‘stinginess’ on the part of Peter Obi, then we all need to adopt this mould for a more sustainable and more humane environment.

Politics › Peter Obi Replies Father Ejike Mbaka by Gjrich(op): 3:59pm On Jun 16, 2022
What a reply by Mr peter obi support team

Peter Obi replies Mbaka.

Dear Father Ejike Mbaka.

I, Peter Obi is still yet to know how I've offended you in person and as a priest you are.

You are my brother as an Igbo man and we even go the same church, the Catholic.

How do you define stinginess in your own dictionary.

So, because I don't share money, means I'm Stingy?

Do you know that those money politicians are sharing, they are state funds. It is not their personal money.

Why must I spend extravagant with money that is not my own just to proof that I'm not Stingy?

I have donated money to almost all the major secondary schools and universities in Nigeria including hospitals.

I never made noise about it because I see it as a charity work!.

So, do you expect me to start singing about it?

Mbaka, if stinginess means to save money and avoid wasting state funds, then, I'm proudly stingy.

But, you've to tell me where else I've wronged you, so that I will apologize and we move on.

It seems you bear grudges against me and you must free yourself because you preach forgiveness to your members.

Hear it again, I am not desperate to be the president of Nigeria. That is why I will never use a kobo to influence anyone!!!.

Peter Obi.

Politics › Peter Obi: The Difference Between A Movement And Party Campaign. by Gjrich(op): 11:03pm On Jun 13, 2022
PETER OBI: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MOVEMENT AND PARTY CAMPAIGN.

I have said this before and I will say it again and again.
Peter Obi is not running a campaign. He is leading a movement.
Let me tell you the difference in case you don't know.

1. Campaigns end as soon as the results of elections are announced. Movements continue thereafter.

2. Campaigns are driven by politicians while movements are driven by the people.

4. Campaigns are driven by interest while movements are driven by convictions

4. In Campaigns people follow a politician selfishly because they believe he/ she will win but in movements, the people follow selflessly because they believe the people will win.

5. In campaigns ,people follow a person while in a movement people follow ideology.

6. In campaigns politicians tell the people what they will do but in a movement the people know what the person they are following will do.

7. In a campaign, people who cast their vote believe they are doing a politician a favour but in a movement they know they are doing themselves a favour.

8. In a campaign, politicians build structures but in a movement the people build the structure and infact, everyone is a structure.

9. In campaigns we rely on politicians to convince us to get involved,we have people with apathy but in a movement people find motivation from within. Everyone is bold.

10. Campaigns come with a plan from day one but Movements don't. They are spontaneous. They build momentum that becomes the plan.

11. Campaigns are like T.V ads ,politicians pay to get people in but a movement is like a premiership match, the people pay to get in at their own expenses.

12. In a campaign people who oppose you or make a caricature of your campaign are usually confident but in a movement, people who oppose you or make caricature of the movement are scared of it.

PETER OBI IS A MOVEMENT. I AM PART OF THAT MOVEMENT. BE ALSO A PART OF THE MOVEMENT.
NOW IS THE TIME. STAND UP AND BE COUNTED .

Politics › What Ayo Fayose Has To Say On Peter Obi Presidency by Gjrich(op): 5:57pm On Jun 02, 2022
WHAT AYO FAYOSE HAS TO SAY ON PETER OBI PRESIDENCY.

I love Igbos but I have to tell them the truth because I love them.

It is now a law to transmit votes electronically, that means rigging of elections has been reduced drastically.

Igbos are only tribe that have 99% of voters in the South East and second highest voters in other regions in Nigeria.

In the South West, after Yoruba votes, Igbo votes come second. Lagos has the highest number of voters in Nigeria and Igbos are competing with Yorubas in voting power in Lagos.

In the South South, we have indigenous Igbos in the South South and all the major cities in the South South are occupied by Igbos. Go to Port Harcourt you will understand what I mean.

In the North Central, go to Jos and all the state capital in the North Central, Igbos are the second largest population after the indigenous people.

In the North West, go to Kano and Kaduna and you will know that Igbos are the second largest population after indigenous people.

In the North East, go to Maidugri and all the state capitals, Igbos are the second largest tribe after the indigenous people.

Go to federal capital territory Abuja, Igbos are the largest population in Abuja today.

If Igbos truly want to determine who will rule this country today, they will but they only sit back and lament without any action.

Peter Obi is the most qualified candidate to rule this country but Igbos are not with their voters card.

Go and get your PVC today!!!

Politics › Nigeria Has Been Hijacked By Forces Of Retrogression, Peter Obi Laments. by Gjrich(op): 7:04pm On Jun 01, 2022
The Presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has lamented that Nigeria has been hijacked by the forces of retrogression who have been spending Dollars to buy everybody off.

“Painfully, our current dysfunctional system rewards unearned income and conspicuous consumption; allows university lecturers to remain on strike for months; keeps our youths at home; and owes pensioners, who gave their patriotic sweat and their youthful energy to serve this country.

“The despicable contrast is that those responsible for the mess – those elected to take care of them – have abandoned the national currency and are living in opulence and like kings, spend dollars to buy delegates as well as houses all over the world.

“Meanwhile, they owe most workers, lecturers and retirees. Yes, our country stands hijacked by forces of retrogression. We are almost zero in all indices of development.”

Peter Obi, who addressed the delegates shortly after he emerged as the Presidential candidate of the party, praised the delegates and those who stepped down for him for their patriotism, saying: “what you are doing today is a patriotic duty towards seeking the desired political emancipation of our dear country, which stands wounded by many years of cumulative leadership failure.”

Obi regretted that as of leaderhip failure, “our future, especially those of the youth and generations unborn, is in ruins. We have become a laughing stock among other nations, including African countries where we were once revered. As a party that represents the workers and masses of this great nation, we are people organised and working for our economic rebirth.

“As I am nominated today, I humbly proclaim that the journey towards the emancipation of the country has begun. I note with humility that the journey is going to be a collective one that will certainly require the cooperation of critical stakeholders in our country, especially the youth, whose future has been thoroughly degraded.

“I, therefore, thank all of you and call for your sustained support towards returning Nigeria to Nigerians from forces of bad leadership and retrogression. Such a noble task brooks no conscientious objectors. I hardly use war metaphors for political analysis due to my belief that politics is not adversarial and not war.

“However, permit me a little indulgence here, to relate what we are embarking on to the ancient battle of Thermopylae, where the Greek forces, conscious of fighting for the life of Greece, held on against great odds in the defence of their country.

“In the battle to retake Nigerian, the odds are great and seemingly insurmountable, but with our commitment, patriotism and understanding that we are doing, what we are supposed to do for our country, lest she shall die, we shall move on discontent with what is and focused on enthroning what ought to be. In doing this, our battle cry shall remain: get your PVC and become part of this great liberation!

“Our governance mission will be twin-tracked. Secure Nigeria in every ramification: national security, human security, food security and tackling insecurity created by unemployment. We will also seek to unite our nation by pulling our people out of poverty and creating a new sense of nationalism and patriotism.

“Nigeria shall rise again: and her people will be proud to claim ownership of her patrimony. Doing so is in our collective national interest. As I earnestly thank Nigerians for their faith in me.

“In the days ahead I will publish our governance manifesto, which will spell out our top governance priorities. I assure you that no region; state, local government or community will be left behind.

“I also assure you all that the struggle continues and that victory is certainly insight towards the guarantee of a meaningful future for our youths and making this country a respected and viable member of a 21st-century world that places high value on production overconsumption. God bless you all and God bless Nigeria.

Politics › Abba Kyari Begs Court For Bail After ‘escaping Murder’ In Kuje Prison by Gjrich(op): 4:43pm On May 26, 2022
Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, on Thursday, approached a Federal High Court for another bail plea.

This is coming after a reported attempt on his life by some inmates at the correctional facility in Kuje.

Kyari and three of his co-defendants, through their counsel, urged Justice Emeka Nwite to admit them to bail because their lives in the Kuje custodial centre were unsafe.

At a resumed hearing, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), counsel to Kyari and suspended ACP Sunday Ubia, informed the court that an application seeking bail for the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th defendants had been filed and served on the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

He said the application became necessary due to the nature of the work the defendants had done in the course of policing the country.

Ikpeazu said the defendants were being remanded in the custodial centre with criminals whose arrest they facilitated.

The lawyer said their lives were at risk, hence the need for their bail.

Four suspended police officers: ACP Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, listed as 2nd to 5th defendants respectively are being charged by the NDLEA with drug offence alongside Kyari.

However, while Kyari, Ubia, Agirigba and Nuhu (1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th defendants), sought a bail over alleged threat to their lives, ASP Bawa James, who is the 3rd defendant in the matter, did not.

Meanwhile, counsel for the prosecution (NDLEA), Sunday Joseph, opposed the request that the bail plea be taken, insisting that the matter was scheduled for review of the facts of the 6th and 7th defendants who pleaded guilty to the counts preferred against them.

Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne (6th and 7th defendants) were the two alleged drug traffickers arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

Umeibe and Ezenwanne, had pleaded guilty to five, six and seven counts preferred against them and are being remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre.

Sources said Kyari nearly got murdered by some aggrieved inmates, who accused him of taking bribes from them when he was in active service, while still going ahead to prosecute them.

However, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, Humphrey Chukwuedo, said there was no threat to Kyari’s life in the custodial facility.

“There is nothing about Abba Kyari; he is not under any threat. I was with him yesterday, I was with him today before our staff started going to court.

“There is nothing about any threat. He’s not being threatened at all.”

When he was reminded that the cop was in court today seeking bail as a result of the alleged threat to his life, Chukwuedo said, “It is his right to ask for bail but his life is not being threatened.”

Politics › Breaking: Biafra Referendum, Abuja High Court Adjourned Suit Till October 20 by Gjrich(op): 1:06am On May 22, 2022
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned till October 20, 2022, the hearing of the suit filed by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) seeking a referendum to determine fate of Biafra and other self-determination agitations.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the matter on Friday, granted all the motions to allow interested parties to be joined in the suit for the country to conduct a referendum.

Speaking to journalists after the adjournment, Counsel to CNG, Barrister Sufiyanu Gambo Idris, said, “What the plaintiff is asking for is the opportunity for all Nigerians to be given the chance whether they want to stay in Nigeria or not, which is their right and we are equally calling for that.

“We felt by the provisions of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, every citizen in an African country has the right to say he is no longer interested in remaining in that country, not just Nigeria.

“We felt with the development and our clients felt the right thing to do is to allow every citizen to decide whether she still wants to stay in Nigeria or not. If you want to stay, let him stay peacefully, and if you want to go, go peacefully,” he said.

On his part, the lead counsel for the Igbo Nation, Victor C. Onweremadu, said that the South East is properly joined in matter because the court accepted the argument to join the region.

He said: “The referendum is only thing that can bring peace in this country. The Igbo nation have been marginalized so much. There is an unjust treatment to the Igbo people in this country. Igbo have suffered in this country.

Politics › Gunmen & Soldiers In All-Night Shootout In Onitsha by Gjrich(op): 7:25am On May 17, 2022
Unidentified gunmen, on Sunday night, allegedly engaged military men in a shoot out at 3-3 Estate, Nkwelle Ezunaka, near Onitsha.

Sources said the shooting, which started at about 10pm lasted late into the night, with bullets flying in the air, while expended shells dropped on roofs of residents in torrent.

It was gathered that the shootout started after the unidentified riffle wielding men took the battle to the door step of the military, in a spot, where they are stationed, within the Estate.

A resident of the area, who spoke to DAILY POST correspondent, said they were scared all through the night as sounds of gunshot rented the air.

She said: “It is true. Yesterday night at housing Estate gate, unknown gunmen attacked the military men securing us. There was three hours open fire. My Estate was hot from 10pm – 12am last night. Call your colleagues living at Onitsha to confirm,” the source said.

It was learnt that the gunmen also visited the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Onitsha, where they also shot intermittently.

As of the time of filing this report, no police confirmation has been received.

Politics › SDP Says Tinubu Must Pass Integrity Test If He Wants To Join Party. by Gjrich(op): 6:36am On May 16, 2022
SDP Says Tinubu Must Pass Integrity Test If He Wants To Join Party.

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reeled out conditions for admitting other intending Nigerians seeking to vie for elective positions in the 2023 general elections on the platform of the party.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the SDP acting national chairman, Chief Supo Shonibare, disclosed that the APC members and intending aspirants will have to be subjected to integrity screening

He, however, noted that all the candidates can collect the nomination forms from their state’s chapters or from the administrative centre in Abuja.

Shonibare disclosed that checks within their records shows that APC national leader Bola Tinubu is not a member of SDP and neither has he obtained the presidential nomination form of the party.

“The issue of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the last time I checked, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is not a member of Social Democratic Party,” Shonibare said.

“I checked on the list because the membership list of our party as INEC has required, has already been submitted by our State Chapters to us in Abuja. And his name is not on the membership list of those who are members of our party in Lagos State. That’s all I can say on the leadership of SDP. He’s not a member of SDP.”

While reiterating that the SDP leadership does not want the party “to be an opportunistic vehicle, Shonibare, however, maintained that: “definitely in instances where we’ve seen great injustices to an individual, who we feel that the individual is not coming to us with baggage, that individual will be welcome to our party. But we won’t welcome anyone who we feel that has a case pending in court. We won’t welcome anyone who we feel that has been convicted even if the person is actually now appealing that conviction.

“So we will try to ensure that those who we will welcome into our party, are men and women of integrity and make SDP to be succor for those who have been wrongly dealt with in their political parties provided those who are coming themselves have displaced integrity and honour in the way and manner they themselves have conducted themselves in government.

While responding to question on the trending report that Tinubu plans to join SDP, he said: “If he (Tinubu) wants to join, then the party has to make a determination whether the way and manner he actually managed the resources of state from where he started is consistent with the profile of the integrity that we said that needs to displayed by anyone that is coming to us.

“Remember, I said that we will welcome anyone who is not with us now, who feels they have been cheated in their political party. But then, in that process, we will look at that particular individual at that time.”

While responding to questions on the presidential candidates who have expressed interests, Chief Shonibare disclosed two aspirants (a man and woman) have so far obtained the expression of interest form.

He maintained that INEC lacks the powers to determine who is the authentic leadership of SDP, stressing that “INEC is not the court of law so INEC cannot determine at the end of the day, which is the rightful leadership of the party. It is the constitution of the party and the rules of the party and the determination of the court that will determine who is the legitimate leadership of the party.”

While giving update on the lingering crisis rocking the party, he said certain defectors from the People’s Democratic Party who joined SDP in 2018 led by Professor Jerry Gana met an existing body of elected officers of the party, adding that the tenure of the officers elected during the SDP national convention in 2016 had not expired.

“Bearing in mind the election guidelines rolled out by INEC. Following the intervention of several well-meaning nationalist leaders, we offered to joint process the screening of aspirants for the party’s primaries,” Shonibare said.

“Unfortunately, the matter has dragged on in court even as there is widespread anxiety because of INEC’s political timetable for the 2023 elections.

Politics › Buhari, Malami Head To Supreme Court Over Section 84(12) by Gjrich(op): 6:23am On May 16, 2022
Buhari, Malami Head To Supreme Court Over Section 84(12).

The last of the controversial Section 84(12) of the Electoral Amendment Act 2022 has not been heard as it emerged yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, have filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking an interpretation of the contentious clause.

In the suit filed on April 29, Messrs Buhari and Malami, who are the plaintiffs, listed the National Assembly as the sole defendant.

Section 84(12) has been a subject of intense litigation and political debate in Nigeria since President Buhari signed the amended Electoral Act 2022 into law in February this year.

Shortly after signing it into law, President Buhari had urged the parliament to delete the controversial clause, but the National Assembly declined the President’s request.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, last week, set aside the Federal High Court judgment that deleted the clause from the Act, while also agreeing with the lower court that the new provision is unconstitutional.

On the basis of the Appeal Court ruling, President Buhari had directed political appointees, who declared intentions to vie for elective positions, to resign latest by today.

The President’s directive forced the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, to shelve his presidential aspiration, but Ministers of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu and Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, resigned from office

In the suit marked SC/CV/504/2022 and filed on April 29, Buhari and Malami are seeking an order of the apex court to strike out the section of the Electoral Act, which they argue was inconsistent with the nation’s Constitution.

According to the court document, the plaintiffs contend that the Section 84 (12) of the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 2022 is inconsistent with the provisions of Sections 42, 65, 66, 106, 107, 131, 137, 147, 151, 177, 182, 192 and 196 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended), as well Article 2 of the African Charter on Human and People and Peoples Rights.

The plaintiffs also contended that the Constitution already provides qualification and disqualification for the offices of the President and Vice President, Governor and Deputy Governor, Senate and House of Representatives, House of Assembly, Ministers, Commissioners and Special Advisers.

They urged the Supreme Court to make: “A declaration that the joint and or combined reading of section 65, 66, 106, 107, 131, 137, 147, 151, 177, 182, 192 and 196 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended), the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which also ignores Section 84(3) of the same Act, is an additional qualifying and/or disqualifying factors for the National Assembly, House of Assembly, Gubernatorial and Presidential elections as enshrined in the said constitution, hence unconstitutional, unlawful, null and void.”

In the same vein, the National Assembly has asked the Supreme Court to strike out the suit instituted by President Buhari. The National Assembly, in its counter-affidavit, filed by its lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, said the Supreme Court cannot be invoked to amend the provision of any law validity made by lawmakers in the exercise of their legislative powers as granted by the Constitution.

They argued that the 1999 Constitution as amended gave the National Assembly the power to make laws for good governance in Nigeria.

“We submit that the first plaintiff having on Friday, February 25, 2022, signed the Electoral Bill, 2022 into law in accordance with the Constitution, cannot approbate at the same time by making a U-turn by using the machinery of this Court as enshrined in Section 232 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and the Supreme Court (Additional Jurisdiction) Act of 2002 to partly undo that which by the provision of Section 58 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) has been done.

“By assenting to the passage of the Electoral Bill, 2022 into law, the first plaintiff has conclusively discharged his duty under the Constitution and there is no basis to attempting to undo that which he has done by virtue of his powers under Section 58 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

“My Lords, we must commend the audacious attempt by the plaintiffs to build a castle in the air. However, we must be guided by our knowledge of the law of physics and the dynamics of our mortal world in calling the plaintiffs to order so as to prevent the impending waste of state resources by embarking on what should be ordinarily be found within the infantile imagination of a six-year-old who is still exploring the infant probabilities of overindulgence in Marvel comics.”

Politics › Oba Of Lagos Praises Army For Shooting #Endsars Protesters. by Gjrich(op): 5:58am On May 16, 2022
Oba of Lagos praises army for shooting #EndSARS protesters.

“Many people criticised the army for coming out during the protest but it was good they came out.

Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has praised the Nigerian army for its intervention during #EndSARS protests despite sweeping criticisms of the latter for opening fire on unarmed protesters at Lekki Tollgate.

In October 2020, thousands of youth demonstrated across the country for days in protest against decades of police brutality and other human rights abuses by defunct police department tagged Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Mr Akinolu who hosted the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Farouk Yahaya, at his palace on Tuesday, said although several Nigerians criticised the army for shooting protesters, he appreciated their efforts.

“I appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Army during the #EndSARS’ protest.

“Many people criticised them for coming out during the protest but it was good they came out when the police could no longer handle the situation,” he said.

The monarch’s comment is despite a report by the state Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate cases of brutality, which described the October 20, 2020 incident as a massacre.

The panel also established that the Nigerian military shot live bullets, killed several protesters, and took corpses away in their vans.

But Mr Akinolu argued that the military’s intervention cushioned the situation.

“The army’s intervention calmed the situation, and I also thank the almighty Allah that nobody died in the palace during the incident,” he said.

The Lagos monarch’s palace was in 2020 invaded by irate youths who accused him of hoarding palliatives meant for poor citizens.

Foodstuffs, starched hard currencies, staff of office, among other valuables were carted away from Mr Akiolu’s palace as he was chased away from his domain for months.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, who was on an operational visit to Lagos to inaugurate some projects, said that his visit to the palace was to get royal blessings from the traditional ruler.

“I came to this palace to pay my respect and homage to the king before inaugurating the project in Isale-Eko.” he said.

Politics › 2023: Real Reasons Behind Mad Rush For APC Presidential Race by Gjrich(op): 6:15am On May 14, 2022
Many Nigerians are wondering the motivation behind the large number of aspirants eying the single seat.

Reasons behind mad rush

Stakeholders and party chieftains in the polity have listed different reasons behind the massive entry by aspirants into the APC presidential race.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, who is one of the presidential aspirants, had said that many bigwigs in the party were in the race because they were inheritors of a country of destiny and desired to work for the peace, unity and security of the nation.

Speaking when he received members of the National Prosperity Movement from the North East and North West at his campaign office in Abuja, Fayemi said the APC wwould be a key factor and actor in the elections.

“And that is as it should be, given that we are the ruling party at the centre and are responsible for governing 22 states in the federation. Easily, we are the most national of parties. We also remain the most sought-after political association in the land,” he said.

Tinubu also said the increasing number of aspirants seeking the presidential ticket was good for democracy.

He said the rising number of aspirants would put all the contenders on their toes, and dismissed fears that having many contenders could trigger a post-primary crisis in the party.

Beyond the surface

But a former presidential candidate, Chief Martins Onovo, told our reporter in a telephone interview yesterday that the massive rush for APC presidential forms despite the huge cost was because President Buhari was indifferent.

He said, “Some of them have been misled by the countenance of Mr President. They interpreted that to be support, even though the president has been telling all of them the same story.”

Onovo also asked the anti-graft agencies in the country to go after the presidential aspirants who paid N100million for forms.

He said, “I invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies to investigate APC aspirants who spent N100m just to get their expression of interest and nomination forms because it is encouraging corruption.”

A chieftain of the party and former presidential candidate, Chief Chekwas Okorie, also said, “The reasons, to the best of my knowledge, may be drawn from two angles. One is the fact that the INEC as an electoral body has given people more confidence that the election would be free and fair.

“Political parties, especially the major ones, have equally given the aspirants the confidence that they will not sit down in one corner and name a candidate; so everybody will have a fair chance.”

A former member of the House of Representatives and 2023 governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Bernard Mikko said, “Many presidential aspirants are springing up because they have seen a democratic process. They feel the APC is more open than the opposition party, which is being controlled by one person.”

But a chieftain of the party, Chief Jackson Lekan Ojo, said many of the aspirants were “investing for the future.”

“What they are trying to do is negotiation for ministerial and other appointments in the future.

“If you look at it, some aspirants are buying forms but they know who they are going to support. In a few days’ time, some of them will be stepping down for others, and there will be proper negotiations,” he said.

A source who does not want to be named said some APC bigwigs who have a moral burden or baggage are in the race as part of their strategies to get cover from the party.

Similarly, multiple sources told Daily Trust Saturday that some joined the race and paid the N100m fee as a way of funding the party indirectly and not necessarily to win the ticket.

Questionable aspirants should be kicked out – Stakeholders

A credible source in one of the security agencies said they were aware of what is happening.

“We know the antics of most of the politicians. They are falling over themselves to evade arrest because some of them have corruption allegations. They want to remain in power all the time.

“And you know how Nigerians behave; the moment we go after them, there will be uproar, including from the international community that we want to truncate democracy and we are restricting the political space,” he said.

Some political pundits and party chieftains said that electing someone with a moral burden as the party’s presidential candidate or president in 2023 to succeed President Buhari would have serious implications on the country.

Some of the stakeholders who spoke with our reporter said the act would spell doom for the country, and urged the electorate to vote wisely.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “If you vote any of them who have not resolved his case with the EFCC or Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), it will be a catastrophic failure.

“But beyond that, no member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) should aspire to be president because they have failed catastrophically.

“If you claim you have excellent ideas but could not actualise it, being a member of the Executive Council with all the opportunities to get it done, please forget it. This FEC is clearly the worst in the history of Nigeria.”

Another chieftain of the party said, “I think they are coming to fool Nigerians again. Most of them are saying they will continue from where Buhari would stop. That is to say we should be expecting more killings and high prices of foodstuff in the market. So, to me, none of them has the moral justification to contest for the presidency of this country.”

But a former national chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Chief Peter Ameh, told Daily Trust Saturday that inasmuch as some of the aspirants have a moral burden, they equally have the constitutional right to contest because they are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.

Another source said many of the aspirants would drop their ambition in the coming days and collapse their structures in favour of some of the formidable aspirants.

“This is not going to be the first time when some of the contenders would endorse others. In return, such aspirants would be paid back the monies they paid for the forms and all the logistics they incurred.

“Above all, they are sure of serious patronage if the aspirant they supported emerge victorious because they would be given appointments or the opportunity to nominate others for ministerial and board membership. They would also be patronised with contracts,” he said.

Some aspirants are in tight corner

Daily Trust Saturday reports that some of the aspirants who are appointees of the government are currently in a tight corner over President Buhari’s directive that they should resign and face their campaigns.

The impression they had before was that they would maintain their portfolios while campaigning for elective offices.

And in the event they fail, they would seamlessly continue holding forte in the offices under their control.

However, the recent directive by the president has unsettled some of them.

Already, the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, announced their resignation on Wednesday.

But some of the ministers are in a tight corner as their chances of securing the party’s apex ticket are uncertain.

They include Emefiele, Amaechi and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who is contesting for the Kebbi governorship ticket, among others.

Buhari had directed that they should vacate their offices not later than May 16, 2022.

Politics › Bola Tinubu: Those Insulting Me Over Health Status Have Empty Brains by Gjrich(op): 5:49am On May 14, 2022
All Progressives Congress chieftain and presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu, has stated that qualifying to be President of Nigeria doesn’t require strength but intelligence and smartness to overcome the numerous problems bedeviling the country.

“A President’s job is not to climb mountain, a wrestling match, or carry concrete; it is to think and perform with his brain.

“We are not looking for WWE wrestling fighter; we are looking for a thinker to provide security for us; we are looking for a doer who will look at economic opportunities and turn it around to prosperity,” Tinubu stated on Friday in Minna, the Niger State capital, where he met APC delegates ahead of the party primaries.

The former governor of Lagos State told Niger delegates that people insulting him over his health status could not even match him in mental capacity.

Tinubu said, “They don’t have my brain but they abuse me every day, ‘E no well, leg dey pain am, e go Mecca go do Tawafi.’ None of them has a medical certificate but I have.

“They have empty brains and have nothing to say rather than insult me but I leave them to their blindness and ignorance,” he added.

Tinubu said he had a track record performance, saying he transformed Lagos State and he intended to replicate the feat in Nigeria.

“I know the road to prosperity, safety, clean environment, development of our nation and infrastructure because I have done it all in Lagos state and I can do it again.

“The others do not know the road, don’t follow them. The only person you should follow is the person who knows the road. Follow me, I know the road and I will not mislead you. They do not have my brains but I do have enough brains.”

He continued, “Where is their track record? How many councillors, local government chairmen and chairperson, members of House of Assemblies, House of Representatives or senators have they produced? I have produced them.”

Tinubu also wondered why there were many people contesting for the presidential ticket of the APC, wondering what their motivation was.

“Too many people running, running, running; where are they running to? Some of them are running to Sokoto, some to Suleja, while some are running to Kontagora, but I am running for the Presidency of Nigeria. I don’t know where the others are running to.

Politics › 2023: Olusegun Obasanjo Reveals Region Next President Of Nigeria Must Come From. by Gjrich(op): 8:42am On May 11, 2022
2023: Obasanjo reveals region next president of Nigeria must come from.

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor must come from the southeast region, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

The former Nigerian leader said this when he addressed members of Political Action Committee (PAC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who visited him recently at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta in Ogun State. They were there to solicit his support for the quest for a Nigerian President of South-East extraction.

“The next president of Nigeria must come from the South East. The least acceptable minimum is a president from the Southern part of Nigeria”, Obasanjo was quoted by Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s spokesman, Alex Ogbonnia, as saying.

Obasanjo added: “Federal character, rotation of power and such other measures are meant to help our nation-building process and more sure-footedly, move Nigeria forward.”

With President Buhari due to step down next year after serving two full terms, the race to succeed him is wide open with more than 20 ruling party candidates registering to contest the primary vote.

2023: Buying APC Presidential Forms For Me Without My Consent Is An Insult – Jonathan Tells Northern Groups

SaharaReporters had in several reports noted that there had been increased speculations about whether the former President would run for the 2023 presidency.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 10, 2022

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the presidential form of the All Progressives Congress purchased for him on Monday by a group of supporters from the northern region.

Speaking through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said in a statement hours after the news that the group had bought the form for him that he did not authorise the purchase and consider the move by the group “an insult.”

“It has come to our notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it. We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state, that he has not in anyway, committed himself to this request. Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it,” Eze said.

SaharaReporters had in several reports noted that there had been increased speculations about whether the former President would run for the 2023 presidency.

But the former President has yet to state whether he would contest or not, neither has he spoken about the possibility of switching parties from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

A coalition of northern groups had purchased the APC presidential nomination form and the expression of interest form at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, informing journalists that it was for Jonathan.

In April 2022, a crowd of supporters had held a rally, calling on him to join the race.

Addressing them he said, “Yes, you are calling me to come and declare for the 2023 presidency, yes I can’t tell I am declaring; the political process is ongoing, just watch out,” he had said at the time.

If elected as President again, Jonathan can only serve for one term of four years, according to the constitution.

He was first elected in 2011 after completing the tenure of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

President Buhari defeated Jonathan in the 2015 presidential elections.

Politics › 2023 Presidency: Court Rejects Emefiele’s Request To Restrain INEC, AGF. by Gjrich(op): 2:22pm On May 10, 2022
2023 Presidency: Court Rejects Emefiele’s Request To Restrain INEC, AGF.

Abuja Federal High Court has denied the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele’s request to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami from preventing him from his Presidential Ambition.

Emefiele had moved for a status quo AnteBellum injunction against INEC and the AGF through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome SAN so that he would not be forced to quit until 30 days before the general election.

The CBN Governor denied being a political appointee but a public servant not covered by Section 84 (12) of the new Electoral Act 2022 in an ex-parte application filed on Monday.

He sought the order pending the hearing and determination of the substantive matter.

He also prayed Justice Ahmed Mohammed to stop INEC from taking any action against him in the bid to contest in the presidential primary by virtue of his office.

The CBN governor requested that the court use Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution to prevent the defendants from requesting him to resign until 30 days before the presidential election in February 2023.

He made the prayers in an ex-parte motion dated and filed on Monday, May 9 by Ozekhome, seeking an order of maintenance of status quo ante Bellum pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. While INEC is the 1st defendant, the AGF is the 2nd defendant in the suit.

Moving the motion, Ozekhome said though his client had not told him under which political party he would love to contest, the application became necessary in order for the court to determine the constitutionality of his (Emefiele’s) decision.

“The plaintiff is a current governor of CBN. He desires to run for the office of president of Nigeria in the election coming up in 2023.

“But he is in a dilemma whether he can run. Can he run? If he can run, when must he leave office as CBN governor?

“We want the interpretation of the law as it is today,” he said.

He argued that Emefiele, by virtue of Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution, is a public servant.

He said that only political appointees are caught with Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which he said had been struck down by a Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia in Abia.

According to him, the matter is currently on appeal and the Court of Appeal has not come up with a decision. “Even if the Court of Appeal upturn that judgment, is the plaintiff a political appointee? Our answer is no,” he said.

But in his ruling, Justice Mohammed did not grant the motion, rather, he adjourned the matter until May 12 for ruling.

The judge made an order directing the INEC and AGF to appear on Thursday by noon why Emefiele’s prayers should not be granted.

He ordered that all the applications, including the ex-parte, filed in the course of the matter be served on all the defendants.

He also directed that hearing notices be issued to the defendants to appear on the said date to show cause why the prayers should not be granted.

Politics › Revealed : APC Governor Bought Presidential Forms For Jonathan. by Gjrich(op): 2:09pm On May 10, 2022
REVEALED: APC Governor Bought Presidential Forms For Jonathan.

A governor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) bought the nomination and expression of interest forms for former President Goodluck Jonathan, according to sources.

Daily Independent had on Monday reported that a group called Nomadic Pastoralists and the Almajiri Communities led by one Ibrahim Abdullahi picked up the forms on Jonathan’s behalf claiming they paid for them.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after picking the forms, Abdullahi said they decided to purchase the forms for Jonathan to enable him to stage a comeback and continue with the good work he had started.

But hours after the news went viral, Jonathan’s Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, said his principal did not authorise the purchase of the forms but thanked the donors for their concern.

According to him, Jonathan was not in the presidential race of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, it could be recalled that two influential governors from the northern part of the country are plotting a return bid for Jonathan.

Speaking to Daily Trust, multiple sources, who are in the know, said the two governors, close to President Muhammadu Buhari, have secured the buy-in of a section of the presidency to actualise their agenda of drafting the former president into the presidential race.

While one of the governors is from the North West, the other is from the North-East geopolitical zone. the two governors have been playing key roles in the affairs of the APC in the last few years.

In the last seven years, the former president has not been attending activities of his party.

This is just as his romance with President Buhari and top shots of the ruling party takes the centre stage, a development that has pitched him against opposition leaders in the country.

The purchase of presidential forms for Jonathan changed the whole discussion around the 2023 presidency.

Politics › Sex With Dog: Lady Risks Infection That May Spread To The World- Medical Experts by Gjrich(op): 6:17am On May 08, 2022
Sleeping With Dog: Lady risks infection that may spread to the rest of the world — Experts

Social media platforms were awash with the video of a young Nigerian lady having sex with a dog. Since then there have been questions about the act which many have described as ‘unclean or taboo’.

Meanwhile, medical experts are warning that such act could spark off emerging or remerging infections in the country.

According to the experts who spoke with Sunday Vanguard, sex with animals is not only unclean but a potential source of health-related catastrophe.

Before the recent event, the prevalence of humans resorting to having carnal affairs including erotic sexual intercourse with animals such as sheep, cows and dogs has become worrisome. Not too long ago, there was a case of a video where a young man was seen having sex with a cow in a farm.

According to a former Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, NVMA, Dr. Alao Mobolaji, the lady’s indiscretion in the dog sex video may lead to an outbreak of infectious diseases of zoonotic origin.
Lamenting increasing sexual interaction between animals and human beings, he expressed worry that there is a strong likelihood that unknown diseases may begin to emerge.

Mobolaji, who is the National Treasurer, NVMA, regretted that, to date, the world is yet to ascertain where the Ebola virus emerged from and that of coronavirus, adding, “There are traces that they are from animals to humans and, because of that, we need to be very careful of this trend.” According to him, apart from the emergence of diseases, individuals can also contract zoonotic diseases that are transmitted from animal to human.
He regretted that Nigeria has no legislation prohibiting such act but said: “In animal law of Lagos State, there is no provision for such act.

“Recently Animal Bill was passed into law but it only addresses the management of animal data and keeping of dangerous animals around us, no part addresses sexual intercourse between animal and man.”

Also speaking to Sunday Vanguard, a researcher and public health scientist, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, who described the lady’s action as a shame, said zoonotic diseases are increasingly being incriminated at both epidemic and pandemic proportions.

Noting that concerns are rife and heightened as Nigerians are now apprehensive especially over the implications of the lady’s act in terms of emerging diseases and its spread among the population, he said: “A school of thought holds that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be traced to the mingling of humans and monkey.

“Of course, we are very conversant with the much dreaded monkey pox and Ebola –these are emerging fatal viral haemorrhagic fever diseases of animal origin afflicting humans today.

“Typically, sexually transmitted disease of animal origin has been documented to possibly infect and afflict humans who unwholesomely mingle with especially dogs.

“Canine brucellosis is an infectious and zoonotic disease caused by brucella canis which has been reported worldwide, and is a major public health concern due to close contact between dogs and humans.

“This abounds in the contaminated fluids such as semen, urine and vaginal secretions from infected dogs.

“In humans, the brucellosis disease is associated with a febrile syndrome, commonly with non-specific symptoms including splenomegaly, fatigue and weakness”.

Continuing, Ifeanyi, who is also a former National Publicity Secretary, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, AMLSN, said the implications and the likelihood of common diseases associated with humans sleeping with animals including dogs, as shown in the viral video of the lady who claimed she slept with the dog and earned N1, 700,000, were very far.

“Though Nigerians are much more concerned about the emergence of infection and other public health-related challenges there are lots more associated with bestiality”, he stated.

“The psycho-social and emotional issues are also daunting. Animals don’t consent to sex with humans. An animal does not ‘kiss or tell’ their expectations in any given way. “So, what is the fascination? Is it just for money or is there some cultic undertone?”

Querying why people desire and consummate sex with animals, he lamented that such ugly indulgence continues to gain ground amongst young people, hence the need Nigerians should begin to consider whether the increased focus on sexual attention and activity might be due to sexual abuse earlier in life or outright mental derangement.

“Sex with animals is not only unclean but a potential source of health-related catastrophe and even death”, the expert said.

“Some years ago, an expatriate at a construction giant in Life Camp, Abuja allegedly played host to a young lady and paid her handsomely to entertain him by having sex with his foreign bred dog. “Shortly after the escapade, the lady in question died in her suburb residence in Karmo.

“According to medical and veterinary literature, a number of animal diseases are transmissible to humans and these are termed zoonotic diseases”.

On animals impregnating humans, Ifeanyi said it was not possible due to the differential in the number of chromosomes and differences in the key genes on different chromosomes.

“So it would be very difficult to get the genetic material in sperm to match up with that in a human egg”, he said.

“The foregoing is more theoretical than the reality. Sex with animals such as dogs has been fingered as the cause for the birth of some monster-like beings in the past.

“It is widely believed that human-animal intercourse can in some cases lead to such humanoid cattle offspring.

“Although it is scientifically controversial, human sperm can impregnate animals, especially within the very few species that can interbreed, there are not enough reasons to have sex with animals.”

According to him, the absence of sanctions for such beastly behaviour in our laws can be largely blamed for the rising indulgence in bestiality among young Nigerians.

“Government at all levels and our different religious authorities must step up action and activities that will help stem this new wave of absurdity in our society, “he stated.

Ifeanyi regretted that it was appalling that the absurdity is fast becoming entrenched in a highly religious country like Nigeria.

The expert, who noted that the bestiality was adjudged as taboo and/or illegal sexual contact activity in many climes, said the challenge remains the apparent dearth of the legal framework in most places including Nigeria to help curb such societal ill.

“Regrettably, neither the Nigerian government nor the various lofty religious institutions are yet to take drastic steps to curtail this ugly menace”, Ifeanyi stated.

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from a non-human animal to humans.

Zoonotic pathogens may be bacterial, viral or parasitic, or may involve unconventional agents and can spread to humans through direct contact or food, water or the environment.

They represent a major public health problem around the world due to our close relationship with animals in agriculture, as companions and in the natural environment. The WHO report also states that Zoonoses comprise a large percentage of all newly identified infectious diseases as well as many existing ones. Some diseases, such as HIV, began as zoonosis but later mutated into human-only strains. Other zoonoses can cause recurring disease outbreaks such as Ebola virus disease and salmonellosis. Still others, such as the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 have the potential to cause global pandemics.

2023: Bishop Oyedepo Speaks On Contesting For Presidency.

The General Overseer of Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, David Oyedepo has described vying for the presidency in the 2023 race as a demotion.

The cleric stated this during a leadership summit transmitted worldwide.

Oyedepo in his statement said it is too late for him to contest the highest political position in the country.

The cleric called on the workforce of the church to be devoted to serving God.

He added that he still believes in Nigeria and that is why he is still in the country and prayed for Nigeria.

Oyedepo while speaking said, “I believe in Nigeria and that is why I am still here, and still praying for Nigeria. But I consider it a demotion if I am invited to become the president of Nigeria. I am called for a global impact. I saw this in 1984.

“Even the devil knows that you can’t be genuinely sold-out to serving God, and not stand out in life.

“Since 1976, I have never missed a change of story.

“I was 19 years old when I prayed to God not to let me leave a village the way I get it. So I was 19 when I encountered destiny.

“I have not been tired of going out for God since 1976”.

Oyedepo called on the members of the church to pray for the grace to be released on them for global impact for Christ.

Politics › Breaking: IPOB Not Proscribed In UK – British High Commission In Nigeria by Gjrich(op): 6:21pm On May 07, 2022
THE British High Commission in Nigeria has said the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not a proscribed organisation in the United Kingdom.

The High Commission made the clarification in a statement issued to debunk reports that that the UK government has recognised IPOB as a terrorist group.

“We are aware of inaccurate reporting circulating in the media and online that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK’s list of terrorist groups or organisations banned under UK law. These reports are untrue.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not a proscribed organisation in the UK,” the High Commission said.

The statement noted that the misconception resulted from a publication by the UK of a Country Policy and Information Note (CPIN) on separatist groups in South-Eastern Nigeria, including IPOB.

The publication provided information on the countries of origin for these groups to be analysed for use by the UK Government as they are relevant in handling cases of protection and human rights claims.

“All asylum and human rights claims made in the UK are considered on their individual facts in accordance with our obligations under the UN Refugee Convention and European Convention on Human Rights, taking into account, relevant background country information and case law,” the statement said.

The statement added that the CPIN provided a general assessment of risks faced by individuals belonging to separatist groups, including IPOB, based on the available country information.

The statement further explained that the CPIN recognised that the Nigerian government had proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organisation, and some of its members who have committed human rights crimes may not be granted protection.

“This CPIN also acknowledges that the Nigerian government has proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organisation, some members of IPOB have reportedly used violence against the state and members of the public, and advises that persons who have committed human rights abuses must not be granted protection.”
