Pray tell us what is wwrong with this house? Does it have running water, gas, electricity? IOs there a reasonable amount of peace and security? If yes, then this house you pictured here is better than what 90% of Nigerians have at home. Not everyone is going to be rich but at least try 70% being comfotable before saying Nigeria is better thna USA.

ermmm no one is saying Nigeria is better than the USA. the poster is just saying don't be deluded by Nigerians who live abroad and cause some Nigerians to leave their moderate lives in search of greener pastures in the US when its not the case atall. Do you know how many Nigerians who have stuggled and saved about $20,000 would use that money, buy a one way ticket and use the rest in getting american papers. Only for them to start working in MC donalds or as cab drivers in the US instead of investing some of that money into some sort of business.

Actually the best schools are in the US, I don't deny the facts. The thing is why settle for bronze if you can afford gold...my parents can afford to send me and my brother to school abroad so we can have a broader perspective on things (academics/morals etc) and with my grade *sigh* a pretty decent job in Nigeria is waiting in 2014

manny4life: That is the loved one you know. I live in VA, and I can vouch for many folks who live in the McLean, Great Falls, Fairfax, areas. Folks that have homes worth more than $500,000. These are the folks who work in the govt, or who have their own business, or something else.

There's no template for success because you're Nigerian. Besides, how do you know what the person's purse is? He may live in an old house, but his retirement and 401k account will dwarf everything you have in this life. Please, stop using earthly stuff to judge people.

Nothing actually works.
Things are going down everyday. U can't make reasonable money in nigeria without telling a lie or doing one evil or the other. How long can this continue. I hv made money in nigeria and I know there's money in nigeria but in the process u wud trebble. If u don't connect with politicians u will find it diFficult. There are absolutely no jobs in nigeria. Educational system is terrible. Hence my choice to do an msc in europe. I plan to get back as soon as possible.
Lastly the poster has made good points but people who have sufferred in this country can hear u becuase they go to other countries with HOPE but in nigeriA there's no HOPE like we don't expect the best anytime soon.

I don't know about you but every member of my family (extended and all) is pretty middle class here in Nigeria. Not to brag or anything; my dad went to UNN, my mum studied business administration in the US (this is in the 70s i may add)...to cut the story short most of my family members and relations went to prominent schools in Nigeria (i.e. UNN, UNIBEN, UNILAG,)or studied abroad. They studied hard, got their degrees and no one is regretting at the moment. They are able to give their kids the best education because education is basically a support to anyone who wants to make it in life. Recently my cousin finished school and is currently working in shell another is at zenith and this was right off the back of their graduation, so you see why I'm lost by your statement "nothing works in Nigeria". The fact that nothing works for you doesn't mean its the same for everyone...frankly dude, search yourself....

As i said the place to look for wealth isn't in a new land. By the time you're done learning the customs and way things work here you'll be 50. You know Nigeria, you know the way it works, though few want to admit it you can make it in Nigeria. The richest nigerians in the world are from Nigeria, and don't bother themselves with the US. If you look at somebody like Dangote, Adenuga etc you will see they have one devious but consistent thing in common: connections to those in power. As a black person, and more importantly a Nigeria, you have to understand those in power are white and have no business bothering themselves with you. At least in Nigeria you can climb the social ladder more freely, you can't here. To become rich in America you need a great idea, something nobody has ever done before like an invention or a service and it has to make sense to the demand. If you have one of these....you'll make it in Nigeria as well.

And many Nigerians are suffering in the mist of plenty.

Why not stay in a white man's land where at least you can have a relative PEACE OF MIND.

I barely understood what you said....barely, nevertheless I completely disagree. Jonathan's administration is way more transparent than Obj's, Abacha's and all the other previous greedy military rulers that completely destroyed Nigeria. Have you seen the transformations in Lagos?, Port harcourt?, Calabar... the list goes on. people are now accountable for whatever they do in Nigeria. Nigeria is not there yet, but its definitely getting there.

FACT 1: There would always be poor people, i mean very adamantly poor people. (its kinda for the balance in the society)
Example: Even in the US where people would argue that the playing field is level and all, people are still poor. They have standard public schools, loans and scholarships for college students and all that good stuff. You could actually go to school from your nursery to phd without paying shi, until you start working but hey there are still poor people there. Almost 50 percent of the US population live on food stamps from the government, remove that and you'll find out that Ekaette and her mum who sell bole or Bimbo who is a maid or Ahmed who is a gateman are all way better off than these people who live on food stamps.

FACT 2: GEJ cannot build the perfect Nigeria in two years. Its not easy being the president of any country, let alone Nigeria.

FACT 3: If you keep waiting on the government to be your daily source of bread you are stup!d!!..Its obvious some people here want GEJ to allocate N1 million Naira to them every month because "its our money". LOOL, here's a bench for them too \_________

FACT 4: The present administration is one of the best since Nigeria was created....things may not be perfect for everyone but please don't blame the FG for your lack of funds or poverty, they don't owe you a better life...you owe that to yourself and you should hold yourself accountable for your gains and losses. frankly, if you have not paid your dues by working hard, don't expect to reap where you did not sow.

This is not a discussion about the US. My complaint is about attempts to sugar-coat the hardships most Lagosians live through. At least all those slums you mention in the States can boast of decent power, functional transportation systems and water.

And the post is also titled "Lagos- A rising tourist and buisness destination" and not "The everyday life of your average Lagosian". He is not going to post pictures of the slums or struggles of Lagos? yes?.....he is meant to post inviting pictures which show that tourism in Nigeira is on the rise and that anyone who plans a vacation in Africa could consider Lagos, noting the numerous things you could do for fun; clubbing, boat rides, shopping, concerts, etc.

P.s I'm very sure the US, didnt have constant power supply at 52 (1826), there wasn't even a middle class (yes there wasn't), but Nigeria has achieved most of the things the Us couldn't at its age. Lets face it even if Nigeria had constant, power supply and good roads....people like you would still complain and lament and use the government as an excuse for your inability to achieve anything in life.
