"Honor thy father and mother" is a biblical commandment, appearing in the Ten Commandments from the Hebrew Bible (Exodus 20:12) and the New Testament (Ephesians 6:2-3), enjoining children to show respect and care for their parents. The commandment is often paired with the promise that doing so will lead to a long life and well-being. While it includes obedience, "honor" also implies taking parents seriously, valuing them, providing for them in their old age, and being a good, healthy child to them, even if that means setting boundaries with abusive or flawed parents.

Soleeha Musa-Etiko, Joy Ogunsan Led MediServe Offers Free Eye Test, Glasses and Medical Services To Over 30 Elderly Citizens, Bus Drivers In Lagos

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD

A youth-led health initiative, MediServe, co-founded by Soleeha Musa-Etiko and Joy Ogunsan has impacted the healthcare needs of senior citizens in Nigeria with a free eye screening exercise and eye glasses. Apart from the elderly, the medical outreach, which was conducted within a bus park, also attracted many drivers who serve in the public transport sector. The outreach became an answer to the yearnings of the beneficiaries who have not only enjoyed the eye screening but are also assured of getting free eye glasses, if they are found to be in need of such after the screening exercise. The outreach led by high school students who aspire to be healthcare professionals was supported by Nigeria's leading private healthcare provider, MeCure.

Upon seeing the massive success of this inaugural outreach with over fifty (50) elderly citizens and Bus drivers participated in the free medical services, the bright, young minds, all-female who facilitated the idea reinforced their commitment to healthcare improvement, social impact, girl-child advocacy, and national development through the MediServe initiative. MediServe is co-founded by Soleeha Musa-Etiko, Joy Ogunsan, Tamilore Adeigbie and enjoys the proud membership of Precious Adiatu, Michelle Ossai, and Oluwaseun Ogunsan. The Health professionals from MeCure Eye Center who participated in making the health outreach a success include consultant ophthalmologist, Dr. Sunday Alabi; Trainer, Dr. Oscar Ovbiebo; and Nurse Manager, Gloria Odok.

Special Guests who were present at the MediServe Free Eye Test Medical Outreach include the CEO of Executive Trainer Ltd, Dr. Mrs. Ajoke Ogunsan; Mrs. Musa-Etiko; Mrs. Ossai; Mrs. Adeigbie; the Chairman of the Ewenla Bus Park, Oshodi; Treasurer of the Bus Park, Sowunmi Kolawole, among others.

Speaking on the outreach, the consultant ophthalmologist, Dr. Sunday Alabi noted: 'This outreach program is targeted at elderly people that have eye condition in the central park in Oshodi. We appreciate MediServe and the students for the idea to give back to society which is also part of their program and training as people who want to become healthcare practitioners. They are doing this for drivers whose one of their top assets is good eyesight.'

'The importance of the human eye cannot be overemphasized. It is our gift from God. It is the light of the body. It is what we use to see the beautiful world. We are preaching early detection.'

About the young girls leading the initiative, Dr. Alabi expressed excitement, 'Before now the students have been coming to learn how to do eye screening. Today, they are perfecting the practice and also see how they are impacting the society. The impact will not just be within the motor park alone, it will be across Nigeria.'

The founder of MediServe,
Soleeha Musa-Etiko shared: 'It was founded because I wanted to reach out to people in need and since I am passionate about medicine, I invited some of my friends to do this together. This eye screening will assist the drivers in seeing clearly while driving, reducing road accidents which will help the community to be safer.'

'This outreach is not limited to eye screening, in the future, we hope to do more and we encourage young people out there to do small initiatives like this in their various communities.'

In the same vein, the co-founder, Joy Ogunsan added: 'MediServe is a youth-led initiative that provides sustainable healthcare to people in the country and by God's Grace all over the world. We are here to do this because we have a lot of people in Lagos who are not able to afford healthcare and to also be a source of inspiration to other girls that may feel intimidated about impacting the world.'

'We got support from family and friends to do this and we also got the collaboration of MeCure that will give the eye glasses and they also helped us to get this venue,' the young Ogunsan stated.

The treasurer of the car park, Sowunmi Kolawole gave a brief appreciation remarks to MediServe and MeCure. 'This is a welcome development and we appreciate the group. Some people are dying in silence with cataract and so on. If they should go to the hospital, many will not be able to afford it.'

One of the beneficiaries of the outreach, Akerele Omowunmi shared: 'I did my eye checkup today, I have been having complaints about my eye but when I heard it's MediServe supported by MeCure that is organizing the program, I decided to come and participate in it.'

'They attended to us for free and they promised that they will give us free eye glasses. I want to thank the young ladies and I pray for them that they will grow higher in the profession', Omowunmi concluded.

SAFETY OF LIVES FIRST: FRSC, NANS WORK OUT UNITED FRONT TO END DEADLY TRUCK CRASHES

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reiterated her overwhelming commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerian students and all road users, following a very strategic meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the FRSC Headquarters on Wednesday, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The meeting, convened at the instance of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, came in response to recent concerns raised by NANS over the incessant crashes involving articulated vehicles which tragically claimed the lives of students in Edo State.

Speaking during the meeting, the Corps Marshal expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the killed students, describing every life lost on Nigerian roads as “a wound to the conscience of the nation.” He commiserated with the student body and assured them that their voices have not only been heard, but are already shaping deliberate actions to end the menace of reckless driving by truck operators.

He stated among others that; “Our students are the future of this country. Losing them to avoidable crashes is not just painful, it is highly unacceptable. This meeting is not about shifting blames but about finding lasting solutions together. FRSC is prepared to work hand in hand with NANS to ensure that no family has to mourn a child because of a preventable crash"

In his remarks, Comrade Lucky Omonefe, the Immediate Past National President and serving Ex-Officio 1 of the Association, who represented the current President acknowledged the Corps Marshal’s invitation as a demonstration of sincerity and respect for the Nigerian student community. He emphasised that dialogue, not confrontation, remains the strongest path to progress.

“We came with anger, but we are leaving with hope. What we have seen today is leadership that listens. Dialogue is the tool we must all embrace to change drivers’ behaviours, stop recklessness, and reduce carnage on our roads,” he said.

The Corps Marshal used the opportunity to outline ongoing and intensified measures being deployed by FRSC to address the menace of truck crashes across the country. Some of which include; Partnership with major fleet operators, including Dangote Group as well as BUA Group revealing that FRSC has so far trained and certified thousands of heavy duty truck drivers across Ibese, Obajana, and other depots. More training is still ongoing in Okpella and Gboko, with focus on defensive driving, fatigue management, and adherence to traffic regulations.

He stated that over 2,700 trucks were recently subjected to rigorous checks in line with FRSC’s annual fleet operators’ certification, ensuring only roadworthy vehicles are on Nigerian highways.

In addition, he said that the Corps is strengthening its patrol and surveillance systems with technology that tracks driver behaviour, while pushing for speed limiting devices and improved safety standards for heavy duty vehicles. Beyond enforcement, FRSC is engaging critical stakeholders, students, transport unions, fleet owners, and community leaders through town hall meetings across all formations, to collectively drive behavioural change and instill safety consciousness on Nigerian roads.

This engagement with NANS, the Corps Marshal emphasised, is not a one-off meeting but the beginning of a sustained partnership with Nigerian students. He assured the public that FRSC will continue to prioritise safety through empathy, enforcement, and education.

Expectedly, he appealed to students and the general public to remain calm, assured that decisive steps are being taken to end the needless tragedies on Nigerian roads; stating that no protest is more powerful than a united commitment to save lives, while assuring Nigerians that the Corps' readiness to raise the bar of safety on Nigerian roads cannot be compromised.

In an interview on NTA Kaduna in July 1987, the late Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina was asked by the interviewer how he can compare the Governors of those days and his time (1966).

This was his reply:

"I am going to give you an example and you can figure out the answer yourself.

When I was the Gov of Northern Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar imam was the General Manager of Kaduna Capital Territory. In that year, we decided to allocate plots for the present GRA in Kaduna. I applied. KAT conducted the exercise all the plots were allocated but I was not given. I did not care to find out why.

After the exercise, Dr. Abubakar Imam came to my office and he came with my application. He told me that they had finished the exercise.

He also said that he saw my application. However, he said they did not consider me qualified because I am the Governor. He said as the leader, I should be more interested in my subjects' interest than mine. How sure was I that all citizens who wanted the plots got allocations before I applied?

He said he came with my application to tear it before me so that it will not come to me as rumour and he tore the piece of paper."

PoliticsAugust24news Set To Present Best Driver And Best Conductor Of The Year Awards by Godspowerpro(op): 9:54pm On Aug 24, 2025
August24news.com Publisher, Ajagbe, Set to Present Best Driver and Best Conductor of The Year Awards

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD

As part of efforts to sanitize and project the image of the transportation system in Lagos State and ability to reward good deeds and eliminate the bad eggs among the drivers and conductors in the state, Lagos-based frontline journalist and publisher of Nigerian Online Newspaper, August24news.com, Mr. Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim is set to present the best driver and best conductor awards to deserving professionals in the state.

The competition is expected to start in January 2026 and end by December 2026 and it has been designed to be a yearly competition after the maiden edition.

The parameters and measures put in place to pick the Best Driver and Best Conductor in the state is through commuters' commendations, score cards, online voting system by the general public, public opinions and other relevant methods.

Many drivers and conductors in Lagos State are known for their lackadastical attitudes, but there are still good ones among them, which is the reason we want to reward the good ones among them so that the wrong ones will emulate from the rewarded ones.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the convener of the Award and Publisher of August24news.com, Mr. Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim highlighted some of the marks expected in every drivers and conductors before winning the awards.

He said they must possess good characters, good dress sense, good driving skills, saying that drivers and conductors must charge their passengers reasonable transport fares, possess good communication skills and relate well with their passengers, they should avoid stoping at undesignated bus-stops, avoid handling our naira with care because the way they are mishandling our naira is one of the reason why our currency is fading and changing faces.

In addition, he said that they should avoid bribing officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other road transport officials because they want to have their ways, they must receive and welcome their passengers with smiles and greetings, avoid pushing and roughhandly their passengers into and outside the bus, they must not smoke and drink before or while on duity.

He said they should be able to help passengers with free ride if the person pleads with them and they should not fight passengers whose fare is not completed, they must not make calls while driving, they should sit properly and avoid hanging on the bus, avoid picking passengers at unapproved bus stops and his or her bus must be in good condition before plying Lagos roads.

On what would be the benefits of the winner, Ajagbe stated that the winner will go home with over dozen gifts which include, a brand new bus, a brand new private car, a duplex, free 20 liters of fuel daily for a month, twenty four million naira cash, brand ambassador contract, driving contract, tour of 10 notable places in the state, courtesy visit to 10 dignitaries in Lagos State, automatic employment for two of his children in Lagos State, 24 different native and English attires from a popular designer, 24 new tyres, an award plaque, conductor and driver bet, a befitting gala night and Letter of commendation from the Lagos State Government, adding that the best conductor will also get whatever the driver gets.

When asked about what prompted the idea, the publisher said that he had witnessed many ugly incidents among Lagos drivers and conductors, which he said made him think of a way to change the narrative and to rebrand the profession.

According to him, "we want to put them on the watch, we want to set an agenda for them, we want to curb thier lakadastical act and non-challantant attitude such as drinking and smoking while on duty as well as reward the best among them, eradicate the bad ones and also encourage others so that they can be emulated.

He added that there is no agency that monitors thier activities in the state, claiming that what the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and local governments does is just to collect fees and levies from them.

Speaking further, he said; "I have witnessed a situation where drivers and conductors beat passengers because of a mere 10 naira change during argument.

"I have witnessed, where drivers and conductors abused and insulted passengers which led to trauma. I have seen where a passenger was stranded, trekked home and even begged for transport fares simply because a wicked conductors took his change away. I have seen where people where properly dressed, clean and neat, unfortunately a public bus tore and dirty thier cloth. These are people who are set for their daily jobs, going for job interviews and attending social gathering.

He said that on numerous occasions, he had seen situations where conductors and drivers returned lost phones, gadgets, loads and even bags of money to their passengers, saying that "we must not shy away from the truth or be economical with the truth, the good ones are still living and must also be recognized and rewarded."

"I have not seen when conductors give passengers free ride out of the 365 days in a year. Some of them are not friendly with their customers, they should be able to give back to the society or their passengers and they should be ready to partake in CSR. Anyone who does this will win the award of the year," he said

When asked what his organisation stands to benefit from the awards, Ajagbe told newsmen that his target are numerous because "we want the best for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. We want them to be responsible and accountable to their passengers and the general public. We want commuters to get value for their money, We want them to be good ambassadors because foreigners and the international communities see their practice.

"We want to set an agenda for them, we want to change the narrative, we want to change the public orientation that public bus drivers and conductors are respected people and not bad people as people see them.

"Some of them are always the cause of accidents on our roads due to their lakadastical attitude. We want the government to put them on a good pedestal. We want them to put a stop to their hooliganism and fighting during the cause of their business.

"The NURTW and the local governments are levies collectors. We want the state government to mandate drivers and conductors to start wearing uniforms and have numbers to identify the erring ones among them," he stated.

Speaking on the measure and yardstick to pick the best driver and best conductor among the thousands in the business, Ajagbe stated that members of the public will engage in voting after evaluating all the requirements.

The drivers and the conductors will also appeal to their passengers to vote for them via hard copy forms, sms text code and online voting.

Ajagbe said that all commercial buses drivers and conductors in Lagos State are eligible to participate in the competition because it is free, adding that no payment is required to participate in the competition once he or she is a registered member of the union in a specific garage attached to a route in Lagos State.

When asked if the project will fly and accepted by members of the public and even get sponsors, Ajagbe said that 90 percent of Lagosians ply public busses on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis to their various destination and they must have had one or two experiences with some of these drivers and conductors and they will be willing to share their positive or negative thoughts.

He stressed that the job is taking a new look and dimensions, particularly when it's coming with rewards and that sponsors are always keen to assist creative ideas and concepts like this.

"We would work in hand with the Lagos state government, the state Ministry of Transportation, Lagos State Branch of the NURTW State, local government branch and Unit Chairmen, drivers and conductors association and other relevant agencies attached to transport business in Lagos state". Ajagbe added.

Ajagbe revealed that the whooping sum of one billion naira (1.000,000,000) is proposed for the project and then called on the Lagos state government, the ministry of Transportation, corporate bodies, well meaning Nigerians to key into the idea and response promptly to the proposal sent to them as he can be contacted through; August24online.com@gmail.com for sponsorship and partnership to produce the best Driver and Best Conductor in Lagos State.

Commenting on the project, is former LAGOS State commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN) stated that it is a laudable project that will add honour to the work of the commercial bus drivers and conductors in Lagos State as he kindly appealed to sponsors to fully support the project.

AIG Ochalla made the remarks via a statement signed by the Annex's Public Relations Officer, ASP Mayegun Aminat, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The statement described in details the actions of the FCID Annex as follows:

The attention of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has been drawn to a recent tweet alleging extortion and human rights violations by its personnel, specifically naming Inspector Kalu.

Upon receiving the petition, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), FCID Annex, promptly directed the CP X-Squad to investigate the matter. Following the investigation, both the officer and the POS agent were apprehended.

POLICE ARREST NOTORIOUS ‘ONE CHANCE’ KINGPIN, BUST GANG AND RECOVER OPERATIONAL VEHICLE AND WEAPONS

Operatives of Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious ‘one chance’ kingpin and two members of his gang after responding to a distress call while on routine patrol along Agege Motor Road in Ikeja. The suspects: Bode Oludayisin aged 53, Michael Sowunmi ‘m’ aged 22, and David Olawaye ‘m’ aged 20 were apprehended following an alarm raised by a victim who was being robbed by the syndicate in their minibus. One of the suspects was positively identified as a wanted gang leader linked to a series of violent ‘one chance’ robberies across Lagos, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Responding swiftly to the distress, the operatives intercepted the suspects inside an unregistered commercial minibus, which has now been confirmed as their operational vehicle. Recovered items from the suspects include a Tecno Spark 20 smartphone belonging to a victim, an axe, two concrete interlock bricks, several heavy stones suspected to have been used to assault past victims, and a broken bottle; all of which have been registered as exhibits and weapons.

Investigations revealed that the gang operated using commercial minibuses, commonly known as Korope, pretending to be ordinary passengers. They often picked up unsuspecting commuters from locations such as Oshodi and then diverted them to unknown locations, where victims were robbed under threats, violence, and intimidation. Following the breakthrough arrest, the Command’s Special Squad 1 has taken over the case to arrest other fleeing members and dismantle the criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their swift response which led to the arrest of the wanted kingpin and the disruption of the gang’s operations. He urges members of the public to be extra cautious, avoid boarding unmarked or suspicious vehicles, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08063299264, 09168631003.

The Nigeria Police, Force CID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos has reacted to viral online news report making the rounds about some officers under its watch who were allegedly involved in human rights violation of a Nigerian and NGN 2 million extortion from the same person. The person's victimization story was published on Oni Foto Facebook page and also circulated by the Take It Back movement on Twitter. The victim accused the officers of physically assaulting him and teargassing his wife who was also present at the incident. The event was said to have happened on Tuesday 12th August at Unity Estate, Egbeda, Lagos, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The victim called on the IGP, AIG Force CID Annex Alagbon, whose men were allegedly involved in the incident. He also called on CP Lagos Command, and the PPRO Lagos Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin to act decisively on the issue.

Upon getting this news, the AIG in charge of the Force CID Annex Alagbon, AIG Ochalla has swiftly reacted to the unfortunate incident urging the victim, his family, and the entire public to exercise restraint in order for the FCID Annex to get to the root of the matter asserting that she is personally involved in the investigation of the said incident.

In a brief statement to newsmen, AIG Force CID Annex Alagbon stated: 'I came across your recent tweet concerning personnel of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), where you raised allegations of extortion and human rights violations. Please accept our sincere apologies for the experience you may have encountered.'

Establishing that investigation has begun and she is personally involved in the matter. She added that the said officer Kalu and others who worked with him would go through internal disciplinary mechanisms and will be brought to book if found wanting, as she noted that the Nigeria Police Force has, over the years, shown that it can purge itself and openly expose anyone who constitutes nuisance to the integrity of the Force. AIG highlighted: 'Kindly be assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any officer found culpable.'

'Efforts will also be made towards the recovery of any funds extorted', she assured the family about the alleged NGN 2 million extortion.

Ochalla encouraged Nigerians to kindly avail themselves of the Police Complaint Rescue Unit (Police CRU) which also have platforms across all social media like Twitter and Facebook to lodge complaints in case they do not want to physically go to a police station for their complaints. 'For future reference, I encourage you to promptly reach out to our Public Complaint Unit, whose contact details are available online, so that immediate action can be taken.'

To further reiterate her deep interest in the matter, AIG Force CID Annex Alagbon asked that the victim could reach her directly on her direct phone line. She stated: 'Due to your account settings, I was unable to reach you directly through our official handle. However, you may contact me via 07068865833 should you wish to provide further details or evidence. We remain committed to upholding professionalism, accountability, and justice.'

She was a market trader, selling palm kernel (banga) at Alaba Ojo Lagos. Her first son, Kingsley Ejoor, a Navy Officer was assisting with our school fees.

It made me brave, as well gave me strength for life ahead.

As Operatives Rescue 2, Arrest 3 Suspects, Recover Firearms

In a renewed display of operational vigilance and unyielding commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant breakthroughs in separate high-profile cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, further reinforcing the NPF’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks across the country, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report..

On 30th July 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, Raymond Sunday Wonna, aged 30, and rescued two (2) young female victims identified as Miracle Ogar (aged 18) and Angela Kingsley (aged 16). Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were deceitfully lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the pretext of securing job opportunities in Ghana.

Without the knowledge or consent of their parents, the suspect, who claimed to be a casual labourer, intended to transport them to work in a restaurant allegedly owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana. Further findings indicate that while lodging the victims in a hotel pending departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them. The swift intervention of the operatives not only thwarted the illicit journey but also ensured the victims were safely returned to their families. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.

In a parallel development, operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, recorded another victory in the fight against violent crime on 13th August 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., when the state operatives, in collaboration with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA, successfully arresting two (2) suspected kidnappers identified as Yahaya Umar (20 years, male), and Mohammed Umar (47 years, male), in possession of an AK-47 rifle. The suspects have confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and dismantle their operational network.

Commending the operatives for their vigilance and swift action, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has assured citizens of the Force’s unrelenting commitment to the safety of all, further directing a meticulous and speedy investigation that will lead to the prosecution of all culprits. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens from criminal elements operating within and across borders. These recent accomplishments emphasise the significance of community vigilance, intelligence-led operations, and swift law enforcement measures.
