Good day everyone, please I have a question... Is home baking business profitable in UK?

I have been doing a little research and I know one has to undergo Food safety courses levels 1 to 3, register with local authority and have the Environmental Health Officer inspect my home, kitchen etc

I am a professional cake artist here in Naija relocating to UK soon via care giver route (I still have a medical degree though and have already applied for the registration/license).

Can I add baking to my source of income? I am very good at it but we know things are done differently in the UK.

Will I have a market for it?

THANKS for your response and enlightenment.

Justwise please be kind 🙏
Be guided please, if you're coming via the carer route, then it means your visa is attached to an employer and your entire time should be devoted to that employer, you can only work for a second employer in the same occupation as a carer for 20 hours per week so self-employment is totally out of it due to the conditions of your visa. My dear, if your visa has been granted, check the visa page on your passport or if a letter or email of approval has been sent and see all the conditions of your visa for yourself. You're transiting from a country where you are a bonafide citizen to where you are now just a resident with no citizen status and there are strict conditions to be adhered to.

This side hustle mentality we are all bringing immediately into the UK from Nigeria without considering the laws of the land will surely put lots of Nigerians in trouble in years to come.

I meet an admiral (Italian) but also a British citizen about a week ago and he wants me to go with him for holiday.

He also wants to pay my balance tuition worth £14500, he took me to see some of his restaurants in Brighton and also to see his house located at Brighton Marina and other properties.

I keep saying we need to respect our hustles. No profession is useless to the person doing it so far as it brings food to the table and help clear bills. Having said this, support and care jobs are much more than what it is portrayed. I have listened to people paint it bad before others but remain in it. Others have painted it rosy... At the end it all boils down to you seeking employment to do your research on what you want or what you don't want.

On the rent issue, like the care and support issue, it's just a friendly advice to not be too comfortable doing things temporarily but rather work towards self-sustenance in our lives.

An IT Professional from Nigeria now doing care or support or factory jobs to make ends meet for example should not try to make it permanent (except that's their preference though). Same with paying rent... You can't continue paying £1500 every month for years, aim at getting your own place if you can. That's all... Friendly advice we shouldn't be tearing head over 🤷🏿‍♀️🙌🏾
Honestly you’re full of wisdom. People know the truth but they just must talk to hit at others to justify themselves

He sold his opportunity to Buhari.

All that fool needed to do was stay in PDP, support GEJ and collect the power after all Northern politicians jump to APC.

He is not smart.

This is igbo season, from now down to the 2030s.

Despite the fact cabal help Tinubu Hijack it, their will be consequences and Igbo must either be President of Nigeria or Biafra, one will happen.
You better choose Biafra that’s a better option

Well .. . All these half baked stories sha cheesy .. Hearsay isn't the official guidelines is it? All visa forms will definitely ask you about your dependant(s) but there's a section on the form about 'applying and non-applying dependants' (can't recall the exact words). And if their dependant is not applying, you simply state the reason(s) why.

Couples are allowed to be on separate visa categories if they wish to.
beg your pardon, am not talking about half-baked stories here, am talking about people am close to and was in the know about the entire process, I did not attack your viewpoint as I was just explaining what I know, let's always be patient to listen to each other before conclusions. Thank you

Any applicant can be on any visa category. The system asking about his/her dependant is usually standard and doesn't technically mean they have to be on a dependant visa.
I've heard about people going for biometrics appointments for visa extension and renewal and not being allowed to proceed because of the absence of the dependant, the problem is that once you indicate the dependant in the application, the person needs to show up, ok even if the dependant is not going to be included in the application, what will the applicant state as the reason of not including the applicant!

Maybe those who have done such an application should provide the answer, Am only speaking from the experience of others close to me

I hail ...please I would like to ask the following,

Aside the the count down to ILR,

1. What are the advantages of having a Skilled Worker Visa vs Post Study Work Visa?
2. Can a couple split having the Skilled Worker Visa and Post Study Work Visa among themselves? For example spouse goes on Skilled Worker Visa while hubby goes on Post Study?

Your insights would be very much appreciated. kiss
I doubt because since they were both on an initial visa which is student visa, any new application they make, as they are filling the form either the psw or skill worker, the system will ask about the dependant.

The best opposition so far has been Tinubu to be candid ....None have been able to play opposition better from Gej to Atiku to Obi ....They're no threat to his government....
Poor Politicking would soon turn Nigeria to a one Party Country judging by what is going on
Buhari gave them the leverage in the last elections as he worked against his own party. That leverage will not be there in the next elections, this is actually their pain, the opposition knew the last elections was their best chance hence their current level of bitterness

Datti and Obi know they are all finished politically, hence their lack of sportsmanship even Atiku.

Buhari is the one who gave all of them leverage in the last elections after fighting his party the APC with the cash confiscation and fuel scarcity. The opposition now knows that the man in aso rock is a pure party man who plays politics in a very competitive way and the like s of Obi knows they can't compete with him in any way as they are not that politically smart.

Your arguments are valid.

Think applicants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, which means that while the residency requirement is a significant factor, it is not the only consideration
I also observe that lots of roles and projects these days are requiring more of DV clearance making lots of SC cleared applicants look like a joke. So those jds where SCs are stated may actually not be eligible at the end of the day to work on projects requiring DV. Quite tricky so people should be aware.

Well, one thing I always tell people to is look out for the nationality requirement and the SC clearance stuff If less than 3 years to avoid wasting time and energy on the application.

If not clear, a contact mail is always at the bottom page of the advert.
For nationality requirements, they mostly will say commonwealth citizens with uk right to work are eligible so citizens from countries like Nigeria and Ghana are always eligible.

The only exception for nationality is when a DV clearance is required which only British citizens are eligible. And as for clearance for most jds they will still say though length of residence doesn’t mean clearance cannot be given and that’s why even those with lesser length of residency can be SC cleared. But from what we are seeing these days it’s obvious the length of residency is still a issue then why are they still granting clearance to folks with short residency stay and then denied them the jobs after going through all the hard work of interviewing screening and background checks. Lots of ambiguity here and there

Please avoid home office if you are not up to 3years or 5years in the UK depending on the type of clearance needed. I got an offer for SEO role and the offer was later withdrawn because of not having enough footprints in the UK. This even after sending references o. You can imagine the heartbreak. People should apply to other departments.
You’re right, heard similar experiences of others with the home office. I too am a victim, got an offer as a senior business analyst but was also withdrawn. The level of clearance must be the issue, I actually thought it had to do with visa length, hmm it looks clearer to me now. Thanks for bringing this up.
