Christianity EtcRe: Holiness Is Very Essential ! by Goshen360(m): 1:39am On Sep 14, 2015
I know sin is not a good thing in the life of a Christian but the Scriptures never taught holiness as sinlessness. To teach holiness as sinlessness is error. Get in the word and understand what holiness mean. We shouldn't try to help scriptures, let scriptures speak for itself.

Christianity EtcRe: Prayer: The New Testament Way by Goshen360(m): 2:24pm On Sep 13, 2015
In addition to the OP, Christians (especially in Nigeria) should stop praying to God to do what He already did. You're praying to God asking Him to do what he already did instead of get in the word and see how you get what's already available to you as your inheritance. Such prayers are exercise in futility. May the Lord help His Church!

I'm still trying to fully comprehend the full meaning of this Grace
Some say Grace is God's "unmerited favour" - that is, you get from God what you didn't merit (as a sinner). But when I understood this message of the Grace of God, I came to the understanding that it is "everything God had done for us (humanity & Christians) through the DBR that is, death, burial and resurrection of Christ. There's no person that preaches\teaches Grace without exploring these 3 aspects of the finished works of Christ and upon these is the Christian faith built.

New Living Translation
And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.

New American Standard Bible
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

Pls sir, I don't seem to understand.
Put it simple - A Christian is not less a Christian weather sin or mistake. That's why I completely agree with the article but the title is kind of misleading or sending a wrong impression that some or "true" Christians and some "are not". Tell me if the true Christians too don't make mistake or sin once a while. I hope you get my point now? There's a wide margin between being a baby\childish and a mature Christian. May the Lord help His Church!

I completely agree with the OP but on the other hand, you have no right to say they are not Christians because they act wrongly. There's a wide difference between maturity and being childish!

We Christians easily shout to the hearing of the world that with God all things are possible but our daily lives never reflect our conviction of the power and greatness of God. So unfortunate.

There is no excuse for lies. Tell her the truth. She will be committing a grave sin by getting married to someone already married. I am also of the opinion that the polygamous family are practicing Muslims.

Everything about this lady's decision screams red from the beginning even if the family in question are not Muslims. Her life, her spiritual life, her future, her happiness, her destiny, her children's future and happiness are all at stake in that polygamous setting just simply because she won't wait for God's answer to her prayers for a suitable husband.

Tell her what the Word of God says concerning her decision, the consequences of making that decision and leave her to make her choice. Don't tell her not to get married to the man but give her your thoughts concerning it and let her make her decision. In the end, it is her choice and there's nothing you can do about it.

Uninterpreted tongues have no room in public worship. That's pretty clear. There are two solutions
1. Get interpretation
2. Pray/speak at home
You've made a very simple valid biblical point in the word of God and that's simple. If anyone has contrary opinion or tradition, we, the church of God doesn't have such practice. Anyone who cannot understand the above statement should go back to the word and find out if this is true or false. Thank you!

I did not say tongues can't be understood, I merely pointed to the current practice of total disregard to Paul instructions; uninterpreted tongues have no place in public worship. Does your church follow this?

[/b]
You're right! I have also taught in the past, one of my threads - the abuse of tongues in the public worship place if not interpreted. I don't do that in church.....I did as a child like the Corinthians but when I grew in the word, I put away childish things.

vooks:
The language was understandable by the Diasporan Jews
Correct!

vooks:
They are the same.
No, they're not the same: The tongues spoken on Pentecost was a "sign" tongues - they never learnt a language they spoke with which people understood.

b - The tongues Paul taught in 1 Corinthians was a "praying" tongues -

New International Version
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.

New Living Translation
For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won't be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.

English Standard Version
For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

Highlight: The tongues spoken on Pentecost was spoken to MEN and it was understood but this tongue here is NOT unto MEN but to GOD because NO ONE understand the speaker. So, one is a sign tongue and the other is a praying tongue by the enabling of the Spirit.

Please note Paul instructions
1 Corinthians 14:18 (ESV)
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue
That verse is an instruction for correction sir. It has nothing to do with verse 2 of I Corinthians 14. As a matter of truth, Paul said, if one is to pray\speak to God in prayer by tongues, they should do so in their private NOT in public like all this non-sense going on the our public worship places where all the whole church just burst into tongues and the problem lies with most people that should still be learning under the tutor of the Spirit but are in hurry to mount the pulpit, call themselves Pastors and preaching unbaked messages.....Lord help His Church!

vooks,

Please follow context! The Corinthians are plainly abusing spiritual gifts even in worship gathering......hence the statement:

19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

I have taught on the abuse of tongues in our churches in the past. It is only wrong to speak\pray in unknown tongues in churches (worship gathering) but praying\speaking in unknown tongues is not wrong as a spiritual gift!

The ^ brought out one of the few questions I actually was going to ask:

1 - Who said the tongue or language spoken cannot be understood by any man not even the one who speaks it? Paul by the inspiration of the Spirit or the person who speak the understandable language?

2 - The laguage spoken on Pentecost, was it understandable or not?

3 - What is the clear difference between languages spoken on Pentecost and the one taught by Paul and if there's no difference, are both the same?

Christianity EtcRe: Where Did The Old Testament Really End? by Goshen360(m): 4:48am On Sep 11, 2015
debosky:
I disagree with this cut-off point. Jesus' teachings in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are for us to live by, not just to learn from. We cannot discard those as only for us to learn from.
Yes! You're right in the sense that, Jesus' teaching (even though it's in\under the old testament) are revelation and truth that him, being mediator of the new covenant came to establish that will take effect and carry into the new covenant. You'll agree that most of his teaching are new to the folks then to the point the marveled at his teachings as called it "new teachings"....in other words, teachings strange to what they've been taught. These teachings and more are what was expanded as revelation by the Apostles after Christ. So, we also need to put Christ's teaching in a proper place in the old testament.
Christianity EtcRe: Where Did The Old Testament Really End? by Goshen360(m): 3:38am On Sep 11, 2015

Hello Goshen, being a while! Good to have you around.
I'm fine but mostly viewing from offline except when necessary to comment and apart from the month of July when I was home for a one month visit....I no get NL time then o because my family I'd seen many years back needed my time most.

Goshen360:
1 - How should Christians learn exactly from the old if we're not suppose to live by what we learn from the old?
Gombs:
Let's look at what Paul wrote us in his letter to the Romans, chapter 15 and verse 4
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
The message translation renders it thus...
Even if it was written in Scripture long ago, you can be sure it's written for us. God wants the combination of his steady, constant calling and warm, personal counsel in Scripture to come to characterize us, keeping us alert for whatever he will do next.
It's clear as the noonday sun that God kept those records for us, to learn from the mistakes of others, to learn of his dealings with men of old... So that we will be in line with his workings.
For example, idolatry.
God shows us how nations were wiped for idolatry, how suffering and poverty were brought upon cities... How kings deviated from a course he set for them, because of idolatry. He shows us their end, and the lessons worthy of note.
*I didn't choose tithing as an example, so that we can have a smooth going thread. Thanks cheesy
Well, not to prolong matters. I think (in the light of scriptures) that Christians are suppose to learn from the old testament (not live by it) in the light of the complete revelations of Christ and his finished works. These people of old had great times and experience with God but they don't have Christ and him death\crucified, burial & resurrection. These are the 3 anchors of our faith as believers!

Goshen360:
2 - What should Christians do with lessons of old when it is no longer valid on this side of the cross; that is, issues of the old that doesn't balance out with Christ's teachings and His finished works
Gombs:
The lessons has a lot to guide us from... Take for example,Folks in the new testament read of these books and learnt lessons (notice the Plural) from it...
Jude 9 KJV
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Looks to me like someone learnt a lesson from the folks of old..don't you think so?
Hebrews 11 shows us our heroes of faith... It's there for us to learn... James told us about Elijah... Peter told us about prophets of old and how they sought a glimpse of our salvation.. Faith, was taught by Paul of Abraham... Esau's blunder was taught us to learn from... So on and so much to learn.
Giving was taught to churches by Paul, from the old testament folks... Etc
You're in good hand then! cool
I don't think you answered the question - What should Christians do with lessons of old when it is no longer valid on this side of the cross; that is, issues of the old that doesn't balance out with Christ's teachings and His finished works

Take for instance, there're teaching of Christ that contradict the teachings of Moses and lifestyle people had been living before Christ came - e.g, Elijah calling down fire from heaven on God's\his enemies but Christ's teaching clearly kicked against that when He corrected His disciples. But today, we have churches and their G.Os mounting pulpit and leading prayers of fire on enemies and we see this is contrary to the teachings\revelations of Christ on this side of the cross & his finished work. How should Christians handle these teachings is what I'm asking.

Bottomline, Christians should understand that it is in Christ that we're complete and need no addition. If the word of God says I'm complete in Christ...I don't know what else I should believe if not the word. So, if the teachings of old or examples of old are not valid on this side of the cross, Christian are to follow Christ and not the old! It's like following shadows when the substance is available. There're many things wrong in the church today but I'll save some issues for another time.
Christianity EtcRe: Where Did The Old Testament Really End? by Goshen360(m): 6:13am On Sep 09, 2015
Gombs:
The new testament therefore began with the Acts of the Apostles. Is the old Testament book then ineffective and useless? Nay, the old Testament is for us to learn from (Romans 15:4), not to live by. We will never enjoy Christianity by living by the old Testament.
I agree with everything taught here. However, let's us get something straight! If the old testament is for our learning and not for our living-it-out, I completely agree also but question:

1 - How should Christians learn exactly from the old if we're not suppose to live by what we learn from the old?

2 - What should Christians do with lessons of old when it is no longer valid on this side of the cross; that is, issues of the old that doesn't balance out with Christ's teachings and His finished works

I will like us to address these issues for\with Christians in this thread

Christianity EtcRe: Covering Of Hair/head For Ladies While In Church Is It Practical As Christians by Goshen360(m): 4:21am On Sep 09, 2015
This topic dealt with many times on this section. We, Christians always like to live by rules and regulations and always like to "do" something for God as if without our doing, we can't be accepted. Back to the topic,

funmercy1:
Do I need 2 cover my hair/head while in church.?
Yes you have to cover your HEAD but the bible had already prescribed what you cover your HEAD with, that is, your HAIR is a prescribed cover for your HEAD. That is the bible! Anything else is traditions of men!

funmercy1:
If I don't is it a sin?
What is sin according to the word of God? The bible doesn't mention covering with your HAIR a sin or not, it only said it is a shame for a woman to be shaven. To be shaven is to not to have your HAIR as covering for your HEAD! We need to put sin where God puts it and not for us to see sin virtually in everything a Christian does except things that are called sin in the word.

funmercy1:
A friend invites her friend 2 her church and told her while coming pls dress decent and cover ur hair. And when her friend came she didn't cover her hair and her friend told her she is a sinner and disrespect God .
Ture or false.
This statement from the friend who invited her friend is completely FALSE and has no basis in the word of God. As a matter of truth, the friend that came without putting a scarf on her HAIR....as suppose to mean covering in the religious churches is the one that is right. While will you give rules to people to come worship God? Are you God? Even God wants us to come the way we are until we changed by the Spirit. While will someone call another a sinner just because she didn't wear scarf as suppose covering? Does God call such a sinner? I'm tired of this man-made rules and traditions in the body of Christ that don't take us nowhere!

May the Lord help His Church!

That's you very own conclusion as you said. The fact that something is found or written in the bible doesn't make it a doctrine for Christians. MFM, their leadership & followers are the most religious confused people in Nigeria. As if they read a different bible or just following the doctrines of men. Nobody can say nothing to them and their followers in an attempt to correct them. They're going to call you all kinds of names!

As for those praying to\in Mary's name - they are just completely blind. If the head is blind, the whole body is definitely in complete darkness.
