I started this yesterday's afternoon. It's a website for a web design training school. http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/school Tell me what you think. |
It has become clear that most guys who claim to be webmasters in nigeria really did not know anything. Pls is this how we are going to compete at the international market? When I see what small guys like: http://www.michieldegraaf.com http://www.adhamdannaway.com http://www.chopdawgstudios.com are doing, I usually ask myself if we are really going to be heard at all in the web design industry. As it is now, no African webmaster is known at github or has developed any framework, even common responsive css framework like this latest one: http://www.purecss.io We are really lagging behind. We need to really step up our game and be heard. Currently, i have not seen a webmaster who has taken the challenge to convert his website to be responsive. I want us to reach a stage where we will have a wordpress, joomla or drupal theme websites where non-technical and non-webdesigners can download free templates and buy premium ones. Let's prepare to give back to web design community. Are we going to continue like this? Copying codes here and there. Using free templates here and there. My dear, sorry to tell you this: all the templates in your portfolio, including the template your website is running on were all downloaded at: http://www.websitetemplatesonline.com Here is your website: http://www.websitetemplatesonline.com/free-template/design-studio-template.html And you claim to know: php, java, html 5, css3, perl, ajax. Who is deceving who? Who will lose when this industry will practically demand your creativity? Pls is this how we want web design industry in nigeria to be moving? People don't write custom web pages again. People dont think, sketch and code creative and tailor-made web pages from ground up. 90% of webmasters in Nigeria are just wordpress dudes. Just customizing wordpress themes. Who are these guys developing wordpress themes and earning big at themeforest.net? We are only after 50,000 Naira or 30,000 Naira and we will just download a template and Websitetemplatesonline.com is even offering free templates with all the pages ready. We just edit, run our filezilla and upload. Please, let us make a statement in the African web design landscape. Thank you. |

Wordpress remains the most widely used cms worldwide. Then followed by Joomla and then Drupal. However, if u want to build a web application that requires some high level of robustness and security, then Drupal comes in. If u want simplicity and flexibility, WP comes out clear. If you want something inbetween WP and Drupal, then Joomla answers. |
@kexpan, i am not attacking u or trying to be bad blood. It's just that we all must wake up and step up our game before making our voices to be heard. I expect you even as i expect myself to bend down and quietly be learning some cool stuff and design techniques. Then when we are made, we can come out and talk. I want to see Nigerians developing premium templates and selling at themeforest.com. I want to see our websites featuring at: http://www.awwwards.com http://bestaboutpages.com As for your current job, you really tried. Keep it up. You can center the text of your nav links. I did this one this morning. Only the home page is ready. http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/layout |
Thank you for ur score. For now, i design based on minimalism and flat ui. When a project that demands Skeuomorphism comes, i will go that route. BTW, what do u mean by web 2.0? |
They are clients job. This one is 95% ready: http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/ChurchSite This is the landing page: http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/Landing-Page |
Again, you can still use your <nav>. Then go to your css and do this: nav, header, article, aside, section, footer{Then paste this in your html head: <script> |
Actually, 90% of the testimonials are cosmetic. We know that. You made a point that you will scroll down if you have a reason to. Back to my point, if he can grab your attention with a catchy sentence at the top, the user is likely to scroll to the bottom. |
Started this this morning. Only the home page is ready. Tell me what you think. http://ctrlshiftstudios.com/layout/ |
Keep squatting on it and let's see how far you will go. People like you go all over the internet reserving names without purpose. You bought the name and yet you dont know what you will use it for. Why did u register it in the first place? You want someone who will buy it from you for 10,000 USD? Keep waiting for what to use it for while months roll into years. Gone are the days of trying to get domain names with common names. Young guys in Europe and America are busy creating awesome web applications with domain names that are generic and they go on to turn those names into a brand. |
Good work sir. The modal pop up form is pretty nice, but after filling the form and the thank u message, the thank u box didn't fade out. It should disappear after about 5 or 10 seconds. Again when i clicked outside it, it did disappear, but when i clicked on the get in touch button again, the thank u message reappeared. It shouldn't, it's the form that should come back. @Yawa, i think the testimonial is perfect where it is. The client will have to scroll down to see it. What i will suggest is to have some catchy sentences before 'Our major brands' text. The gap between the two social icons is somehow big. Cheers. |
As much as you'd like to tag yourself a perfectionist, nothing is 100% percent perfect in this world including your immature self. @OP You did a wonderful job.
Why are u highlighting: 'Really simple.' I was only agreeing with the OP because he said it's a simple website. I dont claim to know anything. And i didnt say the website is not ok. I only offered some suggestions. |
Really simple. And that is more reason u should make it responsive immediately before handing it over to the client. The about and contact links color at the footer is somewhat dark. The social icons, why in black color? The 'Get in touch' button at the index, when clicked why not a nice square contact form popping up and after filling the form and a thank u message, the form will fade out? Let the contact page be called only when the user clicks on the contact at the footer. The box shadow under the cars is not subtle enough. Try this: box-shadow: 1px 2px 5px rgba(0,0,0,.5); Trace out the backgrounds of the cars in photoshop and give the boxes white bg. 6/10 |
Where did you learn html and css? Why will you learn how to create a forum? Because creating a forum has become the trend among young boys in Nigeria? Simply keep pursuing your training in web development. When you finish learning javascript and php, you should be able to create whatever you want to create. Not just forum, but an array of web applications. Search on google about php tutorials. Or go the phpacademy.org |
To remove it, as in if the person is not using .. If the person is using www.name..com, why will he want to remove it? Or u want cheap traffic on your website? I will not click on that link. |
The green color is a bit dark on that black transparent background. I understand u are using green because there is a green color in the logo, but find a way to brighten up the content background. One way is to make that background white entirely. The full website slide will still be seen at the right side. Or use paper or noise or pattern bg image as the background of that content area. Or you can leave it as it is now and change the color of Vision and Mission to yellow and also the border of the boxes to yellow. Why make Vision and Mission and their corresponding boxes image when you can simply style it with css? There is an unwritten rule. Never use image on something you can achieve with css unless that thing has a special effect that css may not achieve. 40/100 |
The 85% is a marketing strategy. |
You are welcome. |
Or check out: http://mobifreaks.com/free-mobile-website-templates/ |
It will work perfectly. You will just display:none whatever you dont want at any given screen width. Unless, you have to separately design for mobile and have: http://www.m.yourwebsite.com and add a script that will fire it when a user is using certain screen width. But @media query can handle it perfectly. |
And you cant design that registration form to be neat and clean? What happens to user experience and interface? About us link is showing 404 not found. Is it because the training is meant for total strangers to web design that you guys are mocking web design industry? What if someone with art and graphics background comes to that registration page and see unstyled form and broken links? The thank-you.php not impressive and yet you want people to give you 35k or 70k for a training in what you called web design training. Nawa oo. |
Use http://www.mobify.com OR better still, you can use @media query to target each device screen resolution. |
Whatever.... Guy, you have an attitude problem..... datz all!
Whatever |
That's true. People just choose a question and carelessly give an answer so that Yahoo will get out of their way and they will have their brandnew email account. But what they fail to understand is that the security question is very important to Yahoo and yahoo users. Yahoo will never give one access to an email whose security question cannot be answered. |
^You came late. Post ignored. |
As long as they ar asking u the security question u used to open the account, they wil never allow u to access the email until u answer the question. it happened to a friend, he contacted yahoo and they told him for security reasons that he must try to remember the answer to the question. When he told them that he cant remember the answer, they asked him to remember one word in the answer or something very close to the answer. He stil told them that he could not and yahoo told him that there is nothing they can do. |
Am not dragging you. And i respect u too. But if u started by telling us that some of the reasons why Linda is succeeding is because of her antecedents. Her consistency of writing. Her blogging style. Her doggedness.Etc. Then we will know that you are speaking to us and allowing us to learn lessons from her. It's not telling us that if she started blogging in 2013 that she would have failed. There are those that started blogging this 2013 that are doing well in seo and stuff like that, but they will never see her back. Age of blogging and consistency of purpose matter in blogging industry. If 2face starts blogging now, his traffic will be something else. These guys have followers already. Check out their twitter accounts. So if Linda is to start even next year, she will still do well. Just imagine, she is not even using a custom domain, yet all roads lead to her blog and she's making big money from ads. |
yungcheda: Hmmm!! I was just being analytical and stop hating! All those of you struggling to protect linda, why don't you get jobs for yourselves Because Linda doesn't even know you guys exist too! The last time I checked, nairaland didn't belong to any of u. It is my opinion and if you don't like it, just scroll past it.Then you should also know that our comments are our opinions too. And by the way, who says your opinion cant be subjected to public analysis? Your analytic was not properly phrased and analysed. Thank you. |
@OP, u made no single point. You just want to get few hits on your own blog site. Sorry, no one may click that link you posted here. It's not a must one should be getting traffic from search engine. The reason why seo seems to be very important is because it's the cheapest way to get traffic. You will not have to pay google for that, you just rank organically. Linda has followers and fans already. Many people have bookmarked her site. So even without seo, thousands must go to her site everyday to read her stuff. So i cant see ur points if not that you want to tell us about weheardall.com and wesaytech.com. @Basic, then the OP should be more reasonable with her thread topic. Listen, if Linda starts blogging in 2014, she will still succeed very well. The topic should have been: 'Some reasons why Linda Ikeji is succeeding.' |
BTW, Moderator, pls u have to personally change back the original topic of this thread. What is the OP afraid of? He changed his thread topic and also modified his first comment. If he had power, he could have deleted this thread. What is he afraid of? Let him keep everything as they were. For those joining now, the thread topic is: Best Website in Lagos. Then he showed us this free template from Codrops: http://www.kexpan.com His logo is even funny. Just a slap to logo design technique. |
jacintamary: you are the most annoying character on this section.Yes, I will not take u serious because i know u are joking. Which something did i show here that showed i was patronizing tympanus? I posted a little work here that i dont even like and because your small brain cannot comprehend how to do it you said because i used ipsum lorem that it's a free template. You also say that the bg image looks like Codrops bg image. Is it not this work you were talking about: http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/ChurchSite I dont recognize free template by seeing lorem ipsum in someone's work. You only recognize that because you have been using free template all your life and so you are used to lorem ipsum. Go on and keep using free templates and let's see how far it will carry you in this industry. Any time you see lorem ipsum in my work, just know that i got it from http://www.loremipsum.net. I use lorem ipsum when the write up is not ready. You can also use dummy image here: http://www.lorempixel.com Look, i'm not against using free template. If one has decided that he wants to build his career by using free template to do his works, no issues. What am against is after using free template someone will come here and be making hell of noise. Take me serious. |
