alezzy13: The number of illiterates on this thread is astounding.
What the CBN was simply saying is that FG is not meeting its domestic obligations ie payments to contractors, etc. And its affecting the economy. He never said he's against borrowing.
The questions therefore is where will the money come from? printing more naira?? OF course not. We just have to borrow externally I am actually shocked at the quality of intellectual capacity behind 99.99% of the comments here. Those who have bn commenting are not fit to be in any workplace nor even merit FG's =N=5,000 as they are so shallow. The CBN governor is simply refering to debts owed by FG agencies to "Economic Agents" meaning e.g Ministries owning NEPA; MDAs owing Customs; Universities through NUC, owing NEPA etc and that it eventually affects the banks becos the NEPA Discos took money from the bank and cant service those loans cos FG MDAs are owing them. These are monies owed from many years uptil date. What it has to do with Buhari or even the planned $29b loan, i do not know. A lot of people have come here to bash Buhar for not having an economic agenda. He comes up with one that can reflate the economy but he says he needs $29B loan to do so, they are bashing him. What exactly do Nigerians want? A Magician? |

Unfortunately, we do not have empirical measurement yardsticks but if we have to rely on the actors themselves reveal to us, then 3 & 4 failed Nigeria woefully. Okonjo whilst presenting the 2015 Budget in November 2014 when Nigeria was selling oil for over $100 planned to borrow =N=1 trillion to pay F.G salaries. That was a key indicator that all was not well but she was only applauded for presenting budget early. Okonjo, we have now seen in the memos she sent to GEJ, was in full knowledge that Dasuki had other plans different from the use of returned Abacha loot but instead asked the IB to get the retirement of funds directly from Dasuki. Akinwunmi tried his personal best but he was outfoxed by corruption specialists and 2 cases come into mind (1) When he was coerced to buy phones for farmers totaling =N=60billion and when Rice importers defrauded govt to the tune of billions of =N=, only for him to come out and start shouting that the same people he was promoting as local Rice millers were the same defrauding govt. What we as Nigerians need to take out of the above is that, its not enough for u to be brilliant and excel in organized 1st world to succeed in the uncontrolled 3rd world |

Flets: This is a country that was the biggest economy in Africa less than 15 months back (How do you measure an economy? By production, which then guarantees stable income. Please tell us what Nigeria was producing apart from Oil and Cement, that made it the biggest economy in Africa?)
This is a country that had unprecedented FDI inflow ( Which FDI inflow? Hedge Funds using your Stock Exchange for gambling? Remember that they satrted moving out their funds way back Nov 2014 when they saw the handwriting on the wall, one of which was NOI budgeting to borrow =N=1 trillion to pay FG salaries)
This is a country that had significant investors (foreign and local) blowing hot in many sectors (Pls name the significant investors. Foreign investors were raping us & Local investors were playing around with slush funds, thats why 1 man like Ben Murray Bruce can be owing Union Bank =N=11 billion. Multiply that by the other so called big men in Nigeria & see the damage we had done to ourselves before now)
This is a country that had relative peace in the Niger Delta and stable crude productions and sales (You had FALSE relative peace because (1) 25% of our oil was bn stolen by the militants and their protectors & (2) Tompolo was buying warships and was given the security and Tax collection of Niger Delta water ways by NIMASA, so, how was the criminal meant to report criminal activities perpetuated by himself)
And a man came forward, implemented TSA, took war to the Nigerdelta, divided Nigeria into the 97% and 5% regions, tightened FX cash flow, frightened investors, gallivanted the globe telling the world how useless an corrupt Nigerians were, went after his political enemies, refused to provide an economic blueprint, murdered Shiites and IPOB, sponsored herdsmen, conducted inconclusive elections, created high level forex corruption platform for his northern elites, took nepotism and extremism to a brand new height ....... and in less than 15 months reduced a once hitherto promising economy/ nation to the mockery of all nations. (TSA is one of the best things to happen in Nigeria to curb stealing & it has shown how the banks were hiding away money for civil servants. BAnks were declaring =N=100 billion profits but the other sectors of the economy they were meant to be servicing were dying. How do you reconcile that. TSA is wonderful!. FX is demand and supply. There is no supply becos you are not selling oil becos NDA are blowing pipelins, s, we shall all suffer it together. @globetrotting: You have to identify that the countries PMB has visited are strategic. Dubai; Qatar; U.K; Equatorial Guinea; USA....signed MOUs on recovery of stolen money. U.K has put their own recovery into motion and you shall see the results soon.)
Now he stupidly comes back to tell Nigerians that the change he carefully destroyed begins with them. And we now have to borrow funds that will enslave our kids for many years to come just because we have an illiterate, undiscerning, old, evil and nomadic president.
May the lot who knew better but still took the path of tribalism to vote in the sufferings we are experiencing today never find things easy in a long time. Becos you grew up knowing only the bad ways of governance, you are now thinking that this good way is wrong. No! We have to sacrifice to get it right. If GEJ had continued, the country would have imploded one day as you cannot keep deceiving and hiding lies. Was it PMB that allowed Dasuki to share recovered Abacha loot like sweets? Was it PMB that gave fmr Chief of Defence Staff all the monies he stole? Was it PMB that gave fmr Chief of Air Staff all the monies he stole? Was it PMB that gave Dieziani the =N=23billion she shared to bribe INEC officials? Was it PMB that made Nigeria lose $Billions in Malabu deal? Was it PMB that paid =N=trillions to Oil subsidy fraud for petrol not delivered? |

TonyeBarcanista: Virtually every Nigerian from Abia state to Zamfara state is complaining that are things moving from bad to worse in all sphere of the economy. The story is the same from the creeks of Bayelsa state to the deserts of Adamawa state, the rhetoric of mirage of change is growing loud from Ibadan the heart of Yorubaland to Sokoto, the seat of the caliphate. The messianic "government of Change" as promoted by the APC appears to have become a government of Blame and confusion.
While I sympathise with Nigerians, particularly those that sincerely believed, campaigned and stood for General(now President) Muhammadu Buhari during the electioneering period, it is in my opinion that the man, Muhammadu Buhari and his party, APC showed all the signs of unpreparedness for leadership and governance all through the electioneering and even after taking office in May 2015.
Buhari/APC Displyed Signg of Incompetence During Campaign Firstly, a look at the APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari campaign promise basically are; Asset declaration for the President, his Vice, and his appointees; payment of N5,000 stipend to 25 million unemployed youths, elderly and disabled and free meal per day for pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools respectively; Empowerment of 740,000 graduates annually across the country, provision of 3million jobs per year etc; payment of one year post service benefit to passed out youth corps members(Corpers); Bringing back the kidnapped chibok school girls etc. The list is virtually endless and can be seen here https://www.naij.com/473147-know-the-81-campaign-promises-of-president-buhari.html
The party presented Nigerians with a glimpse of eldorado even when it they were aware that they lack the capacity nor intellectual ability to fulfil even 10% of their promise. To mask their disability, they shielded General Buhari and Prof Osinbajo from every form of political debate. Instead, they resorted to prepared speech making in Chetham House, London(UK), and padi-padi town hall meeting where participants, who are their party sympathisers and paid agents would discuss pre-arranged questions. Participation in debate would have presented Nigeria electorates the opportunity to know "HOW they intend to achieve the utopia" when the oil price was falling like the walls of Jericho. They relegated debate that would have given Nigerians the benefit of separating campaign promises from the competence of the candidate Buhari. On March 28, 2015, fifteen million Nigerians fell for their "wish list" to thumb-print for the broom with the hope of Change.
...And Started Failing From The Day of Inauguration After taking over office from predecessor Goodluck Jonathan, reality started dawning on Nigerians and Sai Buharists. Firstly, the adored General and the pious VP refused to publicly declare their assets. In fact, Presidential Spokesman Shehu Garba even told us to go get it from Code of Conduct Bureau. It took about three whole months before the President and his VP released a vague statement, calling it asset declaration. The funny twist is that almost NINE months of taking office, non of President Buhari's appointee has publicly declared their asset. This is in contrast to his campaign promise when he said public asset declaration will be a pre-condition for appointment.
Secondly, like an unprepared man, the President came on board and ran the show with civil servants for SIX months even when the economy was going on comatose. When asked, he echoed that cabinet ministers were noisemakers, and his fans re-echoed same sentiment. We reminded him that civil service is for policy implementation not policy-making but his supporters shouted us down. Today the controversial 2016 appropriation bill that has become a national embarrassment was majorly prepared by the civil servants that Buhari so much trust. In fact, ministers of government repeatedly denounced part of it. For face saving and in the spirit of "scapegoatism", the President fired the DG Budget Office instead of firing himself for allowing the DG Budget to work unsupervised. And by the way, we have a huge budget proposal of N6trillion for 2016, meanwhile more than 70% goes to recurrent expenditure and increased overhead in a period of economic decline. Oil price is pegged at $38 per barrel even when oil was selling under $35 per barrel as at when the budget was presented to the parliament. Where in the world does that happen?
The economy is spiralling downwards but the President in his wisdom is yet to inaugurate an Economic team to bring in immediate and long term solution. Instead, the government rely on "blame game", and prayer session in Medina, Saudi Arabia(when demons aren't responsible for the downturn).
In this our dear Nigeria, electricity has become a scarce commodity, Naira is trying to rival Zimbabwean dollar, price of commodities are shooting up, sachet water aka pure water is fast becoming a premium product selling at N20-N25 per sachet. Instead of job opportunities, thousands are losing their jobs. Very unfortunate. But what do you expect from a government and party that failed to thoroughly appreciate the challenges that we were facing as a country and pitch their promises based on reality? What do you expect from a party that made use of beautiful and colourful speeches and slogans to capture power without any defined plan on how to use power into meeting the needs of the masses? Can one give what he doesn't understand?
As for the growing numbers of disappointed Sai Buhari die-hards that allowed the love they have for the Daura born General to eclipse their sense of inquisition on what their idol is bringing to the table when/if elected, they should take heart because the deed has been done. I sympathise with Nigerians because they'll have to put up for at least three years. We in opposition shall continue to constructively criticise the government while we restructure our party in preparation for Aso Rock takeover in 2019(God sparing our lives).
Just 2 questions for you.
(1) If your main income dropped by the same % that Nigeria's income dropped, would you still live the lifestyle of $135 or readjust to lifestyle of $35.
(2) If you were PMB, what would you have done differently?

Something is not right somewhere There is nothing wrong anywhere! PMB has already revealed to you what the 2.2trillion has been used for. TplenT: Awolowo and the late Ooni Sijuwade were 2 parallel line......they were never in the same camp. Late Ooni's political leanings were Pro NPN; Pro Babangida; Pro NRC and Pro PDP
sorry Boss..The above is absolutely incorrect.Infact,Sijuade was a core Awoist(even to the extreme). Also note that the Awo political machine facilitated his ascension to the Ooni throne and Sijuade was Coronated by the UPN government of Bola Ige in old Oyo State.(1980)
Ooni Sijuade was from his youth a surrogate son of Late Ooni Adesoji Aderemi who was also a core Awo loyalist.
Personally,I even think Sijuade's pathological hatred for MKO Abiola must have stemmed from Abiolas actions in '79 and '83 when he was one of the major NPN forces that truncated the most promising political chances of Awolowo of becoming president.
Indeed every major progressive of that era so loathed Abiola and there was even talks that Awo placed a political curse on him that he will never reach his promised land.(Just as Zik was said to have cursed Okadigbo).
though I have my misgivings about Ooni sijuade too,but history must be placed in the right perspective. I appreciate the education. Thanks |

coolitempa: I think the Ooni realises that we are in a unique era of great possibilities and has therefore taken an approach that recognises that.... ....I understand his predecessor Alayeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade, used to visit Awo too... His predecessor, Oba Sijuwade never visited Awolowo, they were completely opposed to each other |

Urine: Over the years, there has always been a thin line between spiritual and political institutions in Yoruba land. For example, Awolowo practically dragged and supported Ooni Sijuade to the throne, don't forget that the previous Ooni before him Ooni Aderemi was also a close ally of Awolowo. It's nothing new if you are a keen student of Yoruba history. Awolowo and the late Ooni Sijuwade were 2 parallel line......they were never in the same camp. Late Ooni's political leanings were Pro NPN; Pro Babangida; Pro NRC and Pro PDP |

loveuGOD: Ife people and yoruba culture don enter one chance with this king. ife king as most respected king in yoruba land has sundenly become junkenta in chief. As much as i love his style he should also respect that stool. Last time i saw him flying boat with life jacket taking selfie. Ah ah. Oni of ife for that matter. That stool will soon loose its honour. If the Selfie you saw on the flying boat was after he became Ooni, it is explainable as he is bound by safety precautions to wear a life vest on a boat and the boat was taking him to Inagbe Resort where he temporarily resides whenever he visits Lagos. Remember that drowning does not respect anybody. Even his almost 50followers had to wear d life vest as well |
