......Let me start again, but with a different twist, what does one gain by applying common sense?
shocked

With common sense you can get more understanding of the world and empathy to people around you. Common sense should tell you not to put your hands in fire for too long just as it should allow you put yourself in other people's shoes thus producing sympathy.

Op, the reality is that in this game we call life in order to get to the top you must step on someone head at the bottom. The fact that we are naturally selfish is one that most humans tend to want to act like it is not true about us. Just as the eagle needs the chick for survival, the rich man needs the poor man to survive and so on. Religion offers it's practitioners the opportunity to blame their own selfish desires on the "will of god" just to make them seem more humane.

Our lack of empathy in Nigeria is majorly as a result of such religious mirages as well as a non functional system. If the woman on your story could call "911" and request for an ambulance for instance, she probably would have done so. But then, such doesn't exist in Nigeria and when you report such a case to the police you might end up getting arrested and into a lot of trouble.

We are really at a quagmire in this country and everyone is simply trying to watch out for their own head

dearpreye might have something to say about this
Christianity Etc › Re: Is Fear Of Hell,,an Excellent Reason To Worship God by hahn(m): 12:00pm On Nov 30, 2015
Horlufemi:
Fear of hell fire wasn't the original purpose of worship of God. Whoever said it was just over zealous to get as much people to God as possible.

That approach is no different from Islam.

God always want you to make a choice he will never force you.

You have a choice.

I'm a Christian and I don't believe in hell fire.
So, where will people who don't believe in Jesus Christ go to? Heaven?

It is a spiritual sometins you wouldn't understood. Just believe the story and move on grin

God is not a god of details. He is a god of spiritual mumbo jumbo. What else do you expect from something that claims it built the world in 7 days and wasn't aware of other planets undecided

God is looking for me?

well, he had better be. I wasted the first sixteen years of my life looking for him. turns out he's really good at hiding.

well, i hope he finds me! I'm dying to have a chat with the old chap.
The guy is so good at playing hide and seek ehn. No one has seen it. Ever grin

Abeg, when you see him, all I want to know is, "what style did he use when boinking Mary?" undecided

Teempakguy:
On the contrary, I will actually grant my kids full access to the bible and the qu'ran. if they're anything like me, they will most likely read it themselves without me coercing them. if they're also anything like me, they will immediately begin to recognize the inconsistencies in them. and they will, without bias, come to an informed conclusion.

it's a way of killing two birds with one stone. any child of mine that decides after reading those books independently that they are the undiluted truth are almost certainly bastards. no DNA test needed. sad
Mad man! grin

Since god was aware of the impending disaster and chose not to inform the proper authorities so as to avert it, it should also face the law grin

Nigerian politicians need to learn how to outgrow this tendency to put the cart before the horse. What we need is a total overhaul of our education system. When students are adequately prepared for an exam, the subject won't be an issue

For me, he's not prepared for the job at all.
It's quite embarrassing especially when you consider the fact that he ran for president four times. Does he mean to say that to say that 16 years wasn't enough for him to get his plan together and follow up on what Nigeria needs to become a "developing" country at least?

Pathetic.

Nigerians can find solace in the fact that our votes actually count as proven by our last election. If Bubu doesn't get his act together we will evict him faster than you can say "there is god" angry

Anyways, I won't have any problem with you as long as you keep your dick away from my yansh and your yansh away from my dick grin

You see why i asked those questions the other time?? rather than tell me to keep following the story.. You carefully took your time to tongue-lash me for nothing.

I Knew why i asked "What was the role of the fellowships then". Those arms, have helped thousands of students while i was way back in school. I knew of two friends that slept in the mission/fellowship house throughout a year. (Cos i use to go for an all-nighter reading in those fellowship).

Like someone said, thank God you traced your path to God which has allowed you to conquer and excel against all odds.

Am happy for your life and wish you the best! I hope you have learnt to be helping others too.

And for the serious vituperation from you, i just can't say you erred, but like seriously, i had expected you as an Ex Gen Sec. of a student fellowship to have learnt to exhibit the virtues of calmness and tolerance, even when you are seriously annoyed! We should always learn not to let our mood swings get a better part of us.

I writes too, but i must admit, you rocks. I have had the ample opportunity to get along with notable writers in seminars and social forum, i must tell you, the readers cum writers response have always been superb, even with nasty comments. Many takes it as a compliment, it's one of those things that comes with writings. Even Achebe's, Okigbo's, Cyprians, W.S and literary works of many writers have been seriously criticise from ingenuity to tribalism. It's a small world sis, we don't know who is who.

Indeed, my time here has been worth the while and i can't but wish you all the best in Life.

More grace and Wisdom.
