Well, the op and dearpreye have said enough. I was actually thinking about this earlier today.

Most people only say this out of wishful and religious based thinking. Their quest for an afterlife that is not guaranteed has eluded their self worth into believing that everything material is evil and thus will mar their pursuit of a world after death that ironically guarantees everything with they refer as vanity such as wealth, paradise, gold plated roads and a white heaven.

Jealousy and envy of other people's success and achievements is also another factor behind this twisted logic.

The fact remains that everything attainable only exists on this physical earth and are very much realistic. The illusion of paradise is in fact "vanity upon vanity".

This also applies to wealth. People keep complaining that people like PSquare keep getting deals, "the rich keep getting richer", and I wonder if they realise the fan base these guys have and what the companies that make them their ambassadors stand to benefit from the deal.

There's nothing really wrong with believing in a god. For instance, many people are able to cope with disappointments, loss of a loved one, hardships and other challenges life throws at us by believing that a higher power is there to take control of the situation, irrespective of the outcome, and this is the basis of their hope and strength.

Where we seem to have a problem is when theists make it sound like it, god, is actually real and try to shove down ancient knowledge, especially of foreign origin, down people's throats and present it as fact instead of treating it as the figment of the imagination it is.

The Bible is so clear on this matter but humans are generally predisposed to be slavish to others or some doctrines.

I've got no issue with whoever pays their tithe so long as they don't do so because they're being threatened with a devourer nonsensical talk. If you want to tithe do so because you just want to show gratitude to God and because the money will be used to address some needs of the church.

I know thousands of believers who are broke though they're dedicated tithe payers. If anything, it's what you do with the 90% that determines how rich or poor you'll be.

Let everyone do what they're convinced about. Tithe doesn't take a person to heaven or hell.
