Buhari to champion anti-corruption campaign at AU summit:

President Muhammadu Buhari will Friday depart for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to participate in the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, AU.

A press statement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, on Thursday says the highlight of the president’s engagements during the visit will be his statement under the historic theme for the AU Summit, namely: “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation.”

“This is the first time in the 54-year history of the AU that anti-corruption will be made a theme of the gathering of the regional leaders,” the statement said.

On July 4, 2017 during the 29th Session of the AU, African leaders unanimously endorsed Mr. Buhari to champion the fight against corruption on the continent.

“ The endorsement was in recognition of his personal commitment and widely acclaimed anti-graft drive at the domestic level,” Mr. Adesina said.

On July 25, 2017, the president in a letter to President Alpha Conde of Guinea, who is also the out-going AU Chairperson, formally accepted his nomination to lead members of the AU on this crucial crusade against a veritable socio-economic vice that is anti-development.

While thanking his colleagues for the honour, he reiterated his “commitment to contribute towards our collective efforts to strengthen good governance and development on the continent.”

Apart from anti-corruption, other issues lined for consideration by African leaders and their delegations include, peace and security (transnational terrorism); institutional reforms of the continental body; free movement of persons; climate change; trade; aviation; education; gender and development.

President Buhari will also hold bilateral meetings with some of his colleagues on issues of common interests.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazau; the Minister of State (Aviation), Hadi Sirika; the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu are in the president’s delegation to the Summit.

Tinubu has active influence with personality in power who together can garner grassroot support. Obj on the other hand has goodwill amongst people across board but not strong enough to call them to act against there principal when the chips are down.

Obj had alot of persons in key positions before the APC won in 2015. In Obj quest to bring GEJ down, his chunk of influence left the corridors of power. Tinubu on the other hand succeeded in the last election to get more of his folks into key positions in the SW and national level and across to the North.

Today as it stands Obj only boost of expired politicians eg people like Lamido etc. The others you see appreciate him out of respect and goodwill which he can destroy by simply trying to go against there interest.

As for me the power has gradually moved to the people... What matters is getting the people onboard as there are no guarantees that influencers can always give the right push.

At the moment the dynamics i feel will greatly be with the people and such persons as Obj and Tinubu or even Buhari can only secure that much a support and can't assure anyone of complete or majority support.Forget thugs, it would be hard to force those that want to vote otherwise.People willing to vote there own way are more in numbers.

Obj letter is playing to the gallery. He has seen the dynamics that no single person holds the ace. Not PDP and not APC. Not some God father or some spiritual leader.He has seen that the power is with the people come 2019. As such he is touching them where they may like. The things that drive votes in Nigeria today most likely will be centered and divided along religion,ethnicity,gov. service,daily challenges,security,food,job,welfare etc so the reasons are vast and that goes beyond party or individual influence.

Neither Tinubu nor Obj can secure victory for anyone. Its better people focus on being independent and voting what or who works...EOD

Oga, you have obviously not dealt with DPR before, which is why you cannot recognise the fact that they are playing to the gallery. Even simple requests for renewal of licenses which have been submitted online with hard copies placed on their desk, takes forever to approve. It takes them time to take action on matters directly under their noses, and you think they will perform miracles on this fuel scarcity issues? DPR's field officers that like to collect kickbacks? Wait, let me stop here before I let the cat out of the bag...

Your point doesn't apply to such issues.Where they already have license and are operating station. DPR doesn't smile when they are tasked in such scarcity to clamp down.Few may play to the gallery but alot will not.Especially when there oga and co are under immense pressure to resolve the hoarding/scarcity.They have no issues sanctioning operating stations who are in violation.

To assume I have not dealt with DPR is based on you ignorance of my dealing. I have run a station before and also I have helped a friend who has paid fines.DPR often are reluctant to issue new licenses,true.Especially to Independent marketers. It's something about managing the numbers I think or something.

Wubbish initiative. Let the DPR inspectors get off their butts and actually go round the fuel stations to conduct checks. They licensed them and they have all their addresses. And let NNPC and major marketers ensure there is adequate supply of the product! They should stop lying to us!

It is not a bad initiative. You get the most information from the populace and also you best gauge feedbacks from the users.They DPR can't be everywhere. You have to consider the manpower and resources they also have and the number of stations/location they need to cover. As to also check the DPR field team, The phone will be another motivation, knowing anyone can report anything happening.

A transaction can turn criminal, I hope you know that? It starts with good intention until along the way someone tries to be funny and suspicious prompting the need to have it resolved through legally authorised bodies.They alone can conclude according to law who is to blame or not and what is legally right as per penalty/punishment

Yes I know they can come for me. Such matters are not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Bigger conglomerate around the world answer to different charges and issues with banks, government or individuals. If you have heard of the legal departments/office or sections in companies. Its there business to protect the company in such matters.

You don't have to pull the entire nation into it. You don't need tribal colouration to survive.which is the problem I have. You should perhaps find out cases in court between banks and companies or individuals. If you are a shareholder of any bank.The reports can show you monies they spend on legal issues. It happens.....That is all am saying. The issue is not anyway different.Innoson can do better to keep it under wraps through the legal means or via certain corrective approach between him and the bank.

They are used to push for both political and business gains.
They are used to suppress and oppress a people for no reason.

Governments always change policy and when they do people are affected... If anything Business often lobby and re-align to protect their business, not by causing confusion. As they also need the market to remain stable, for them to succeed as well. Government is also not perfect and a collective effort. There policy maybe wrong atimes. That does not excuse one to assume its targeted at a particular ethnic group.As such all interest need to work together.

Not all issues should have ethnic colourations. We often say all these things without reason. The Business the Igbos have are still being patronised by Northerners alike. They have not stop being customers... Like any other tribe. We should learn to single out people and their individual actions and not make a mess of everything just cause we feel aggrieved.

I doubt what the Senate is saying makes any sense. We get that the likes of Innoson are lobbyist or sponsors of politicians especially senators and dine with the elite. That does not exempt them from attending to allegations or issues he may have. Particularly since it's between him and a Bank(financial) - probably a business gone bad. These same senators shouting blue murder will be the first to summon the EFCC if the bank was to tell them they can't account for monies they deposited or a fraudster have diverted their money.

I think we should learn to allow institutions do there work. If a case was raised and sent to EFCC by an aggrieved party on financial matters which is within the jurisdiction of EFCC to attend, Let them work. Moreover, an invitation(Arrest) or interrogation is not a conviction. It is to get facts and put up a case if any. The man has been granted bail.He is not above arrest or interrogation if a case is raised against him.

The Senate and politicians have made issues of wealthy individuals seem like some folks are above the law.If they should be accorded some special treatment before being handed judgement. All citizens should be treated equally in such matters.I have not seen where the Senate has raised an eyebrow over other businessmen or women facing similar case with the EFCC. The Untouchables will always want to pull the weight of people like the Senate to make themselves immune from answering simple matters. All Innoson needed to do like any other is get a lawyer. which he can afford and go answer the case.

The Senate really needs to be focused on other issues than petty individual matters.If it was the matter of the former SGF and co. I would have supported it. In this matter, they seem to have become an obstruction to an investigation. Which one is the Senate investigating, a matter that has not even being concluded and charged, for one to even ascertain if he was unfairly treated.How is anyone's right being violated here... They should have waited to even see how the matter unfolds.Until they are sure he is treated unfairly, no need to cry foul. Inviting him to provide his own facts does not constitute any wrongdoing.

The options back home are never worse or close to what they go through in the hands of the Libyans or smugglers.The only comparison would have been running away from war in your country in any. I think it goes beyond just getting people to submit guns, but more to do with stopping how and by what means the weapons get into there hands.As it is the distribution of weapons in Nigeria is becoming widespread. The only option left is to identify and block the influx from all angles by the suppliers and smugglers.

Otherwise someday people maybe handing over armored tanks, fighter planes, combat ships or even territory with armies.Some may ascribe it to arms struggle but in the long run, when the struggle is gone.How do you curb the violence and crime that may eventually follow?

According to the Nigerian Airforce official Website, the Nigerian Air Force has taken delivery of 10 aircraft which is the first successful completed in-country Periodic Deport Maintenance of NAF aircraft. It was mention that the Reactivated Jets which include NAFs 452,453,454,455,456,457,461,466,470 and 913 were part of those rehabilitated and recommissioned under the Periodic Deport Maintenance.

The reactivation of the aircraft was done by the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Service Limited in conjunction with Sebena Technics a foreign partner. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh explained that it would go a long way in the deployment of troops to tackle the present security challenges facing the country.

The former Minister of Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, said the dictates of the Federal Government’s transformation policies emphasised looking inwards and capacity building for self-reliance. In addition, Mrs Olusola Obadan called on the military to focus more on research and development.
