SIRTee15: Just drop it, u are threading in unfamiliar territory and u re simply moving in circles. Even ur new info supports my assertion. Your problem is u re ignorant of residency training in nigeria and u re not willing to learn. Now look at what u posted, add up the duration of both specialty (residency) n sub-specialty (fellowship) for each training program, what u get is 6-7 yrs for each. That's exactly the number of yrs to complete residency training and receive ur fellowship in Nigeria. According to ur report, a doctor who wants to be a cardiologist in the us will complete 3 yrs residency training in internal medicine, become an attending and then proceed for another 3 yrs sub-specialty training in cardiology. A doctor in Nigeria who wants to be a cardiologist will train as a jnr registrar in internal medicine for 3 yrs n then spend an extra 3 yrs as a senior registrar training as a cardiologist. They both spent 6 yrs to become a cardiologist n receive their fellowship award. The 3 yrs the us doctor was working as an attending, the naija doc was working as a snr registrar. Isn't it obvious both career cadres are equivalent. I told u earlier that a WACP snr registrar can be employed as a specialist in district hospitals. Pls, stop behaving like typical johesu people...... Learn to bow to superior argument. Neither registrar nor snr registrar are students At ur last sentence, they are students cos they are undergoing training bt they are atypical students since they are already licensed to practice medicine and practice in d course of learning |

ColeworldMD: I don't know why ppl complicate stuff. There's a stipulated salary for each profession and every right thinking person should be aware of this before embarking on such career path. If you think nurses salary is inadequate compared to your passion to be a nurse and would prefer the salary of a doctor please by all means go to medical school and be ready to endure all the stress of the profession. There's no high paying job that is easy. The best paid are usually the most difficult and vice versa Same bullshit we always hear, so they av no right to fight for better pay? The want for better renumeration by other health workers translates to competing and wanting to be Drs, yet Drs will always cry abt being underpaid and fight for better remuneration bt others shld just take it as it is since they knew b4 getting in. |

What u posted corroborated what I wrote. In the us, residency training is 3-4 yrs, after that u become an attending physician also known as a specialist. After this, the attending may wish to proceed for his fellowship by going for sub-specialty training. Completion of this sub-specialty training makes u a fellow in the us. Now in Nigeria, we regard our consultants as fellows because they completed a fellowship program with the medical colleges that awarded the certificates. The 6 years residency training in Nigeria comprises 3 yrs of specialty training and another 3 yrs of sub-specialty. Thus attending and senior registrar are the same thing. Talk abt petty and u had to bring in jilting and marriage? Na wa for u o. |

SIRTee15: I ve worked in 3 federal establishments, laboratory doctors process samples during johesu strikes. Nobody stops them, management don't tolerate such nonsense. I remember when some MLS tried it in the FMC I worked, SSS was invited to arrest them for vandalizing govt properties. Besides why should u take away lab keys when u are on strike. Are the labs ur personal property? When doctors go on strike, they don't lock up the Wards or clinics, whoever is interested in taking over is free to do so. If u guys think u are indispensable, leave the lab open and watch whether it won't function.
Don't worry, u guys should Continue this silly trend, and see privatisation take over. Love u so much, privatisation of all aspects of healthcare shld be implemented. And while at it policies shld be made to ensure all professionals are allowed to work as licensed to and according to their work descriptions and what obtains in the saner World. artboll: Well, apparently you are a nurse. In the Nigerian civil service currently, nurses are employed at Grade level 8 (CONHESS) just like Pharmacists and MLScientists. If tomorrow, lab technicians, who are employed at level 6 or 7(can't really remember) start agitating for employment at level 8,won't you be against it,or at least ask to be employed at a higher grade? Nurses are a step below all other health professionals and they aren't dead due to some disparities and majorly their leaders'fault. So all other professionals don equate to technicians to Drs abi? U guys are selfish admit it! What lvl do Drs come in in the CONMESS? Lvl 13 wt more incentives, the graduate nurse has to work for close to 10yrs b4 he or she can take home the medical intern's salary. These pple want to skip lvl 10 wc alot of professionals in civil service skip actually, bt the Drs who are earning high relatively anyway comes up to tell d govt they'll strike if johesu is answered. He wasn't talking abt the paramedics tht man ambulances and perform basic first aid on pts. Health › Re: JOHESU To Embark On Nationwide Strike by HaneefahRN(f): 6:38pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
artboll: Actually, there have been strikes over the state of hospitals and healthcare. I wish you've heard of ARD strikes at FMC,Owerri(I hope this is correct cos its been kinda long) where the Doctors went on strike over poor state of hospital facilities and called for the sack of the CMD. Also,it goes to show how caring(pretentious or not) Drs are when going on strike as they tend to bring the state of health facilities to the public knowledge. I doubt JOHESU will ever mind if hospitals turn to 'rat-houses' as long as they're paid higher than Doctors. You also mentioned the Osun debacle;if the NMA hadn't gone on strike, would you or the rest of Nigeria had known that a Governor of an APC state that had received its bailout funds decided to cut the salaries of its civil servants by half, while politicians still got their full numerations as well as their enrichments for corruption?(NO). The leaderships of JOHESU as well as other unions have probably had their hands greased and so kept silent, but as its always been, the NMA said NO. Don't you sometimes wonder why no Doctor will ever criticize an NMA decision. Its because its never for just themselves, but for future doctors, the patients and the health sector in general, and sometimes(like in the Osun state example),the general public.
I'm not an ardent supporter of Johesu, ( don't knw why nurses are still part ) but I dnt support hypocrisy either. The Owerri issue was a joint case by all health workers nt just Drs against the highly corrupt CMD. None is better than the other. And I'av actually never come across where the johesu asked for pays highter than Drs but an improvement in renumeration and better work environment among others, somethn tht seems to bother the Drs, still wondering why.
The Osun strike has nothing to do wt the populace but the Drs who were paid half salary and owed some salaries note tht this didn't affect Drs only. I understand their plight tho. U can see u also like playing d sympathy card? One thing I like abt NMA is how they are so gud at fighting for themselves, when they ain't busy antagonizing others growth, so drop d sympathy card and no, I dnt trust Johesu leaders or even nursing leaders at tht. |

artboll: Madam, its apparent you've 'travelled far and wide', and now you've brought an issue to the fore. JOHESU should stop pretending they are fighting for the most important person-THE PATIENT, cos the truth is they only care about themselves. I've never heard of Johesu fighting for better facilities in the hospitals, always about skipping this or that, its shameful. The fact that some people don't like the way they're treated and feel like "not smiling back"(using your words) doesn't mean they have to attempt to derail healthcare for the patients. Interesting and what exactly do Drs fight for? Johesu didn't even pretend to fight for the pt by adding some minor points to win pple's heart wc gets forgotten when their main issues are addressed. Pls mention just a strike by Drs where the main points and goals were for the pts and health facilities ( don't bring tht sentiment up it goes both ways and we both knw who the masters in this regard is ) and who controls the mgt of these facilities? And we can all see how well they manage them wtout corruption. Let's face reality both parties fight for their rights wc is sadly the reality on ground, none cares abt d pt in tht regards, strike is d weapon the govt understands and pple aren't afraid to use so I dnt get d comparison e. g the Drs in Osun are having a solidarity warning strike for three days, how does this help the pt and health sector? And I think d antagonism is childish, selfish and hypocritical, no one cares abt the pt, it's d I want to earn more and the no the relativity gap must remain same unless we strike too. But the main things I dnt understand is why Drs are so antagonistic to other professionals earning higher and make mountains out of mole hills, bringing irrelevancies up. How does other workers being paid better affect them? U guys earn more anyway so why the need to surpress others? The govt wc sadly doesn't even care shld sit the ass of stakeholders of these unions out and resolve issues. I really dnt get what all these insanity is all abt. The health system and infact every system in Nigeria needs an overhaul ! |

When I go thru foreign medical forums, I see some of the reasons why we lag behind. When u treat other professionals wt disdain becos u spent more yrs in sch and can supposedly do all their work dnt expect them to smile back at u, pple are fighting for their rights yet egoistical, selfish minds had to twist things to serve their purpose. doveda: I think both docotrs and nurses have issues.
Some nurses do act like they know it all especially the older ones, like prescribing drugs to the patients behind the doctor's back or increasing dosage etc
Some doctors are so bad that if I had a chance to kill one of the bad ones. I mightbjsut go ahead with it.
My brother almost became one-eyed because of two Nigerian hospitals (not two doctors). One prescribed adult dosage for a boy of 10 who had already been treated for malaria. It was at the pharmacy (the hospital's pharmacy), the pharmacist refused to sell the prescribed drugs. She told my parents are hat he had meningitis not malaria!. They left for another hospital(not a private one). Rather than carry out a test to determine the type of meningitis he has, they wanted to treat him straightway. It was a miracle my uncle, a doctor called before they killed my brother. Also I have an aunt that limps today because of a Nigerian doctor.
Clearly, the health sector and professionals in Nigeria needs a total reform. Thanks sis. For ur observation, tht's what I keep saying the system needs a total overhaul, what of quackery too? Then coming down to d bad blood in d health institution. They shld all know their boundaries and respect each other. Some nurses can prescribe tho, d midwifes, public health nurses and A and E, I think bt av limits. Everyone shld knw their duties and do it, we are all there to work together and catch each others mistakes, I'av seen many situations where nurses catch d prescribing Dr's mistakes likewise pharmacists, no one is above mistakes or an Island of knowledge. The education system is in shambles and is reflected on d products except those tht work on themselves. |
