Politics › Re: Jonathan Rejects Amended Constitution by harry509: 8:51am On Apr 15, 2015 |
gratiaeo: President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the amendments made to the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly, The PUNCH has learnt.
A top government official who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent on Tuesday that Jonathan vetoed the amendment on Monday.
The official said the decision of the President not to sign the document was because the amendment did not meet the provisions of Section 9 (3) of the 1999 Constitution.
The source explained that with the return of the document by the President, the letter accompanying it might be read on the floors of the two chambers of the National Assembly any time from Wednesday (today).
He said, “The President has vetoed the constitution amendment and he has sent it back to the National Assembly.
“The amendment did not meet the provision of Section 9 (3) of the constitution which talks about the need for four fifth of the National Assembly to agree with the amendment.”
Section 9 (3) of the Constitution reads:
“An Act of the National Assembly for the purpose of altering the provisions of this section, section 8 or Chapter IV of this Constitution shall not be passed by either House of the National Assembly unless the proposal is approved by the votes of not less than four-fifths majority of all the members of each House, and also approved by resolution of the House of Assembly of not less than two-third of all states.”
The rejected amended constitution granted approval for the separation of the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation from that of Minister/Commissioner of Justice http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-rejects-amended-constitution/ pls NL I wana know wat kind of provisions d section 9(3) is abt, bcus nig constutitions is full of confusion. |
Politics › Re: Six Countries Reject Alison-Madueke’s Asylum Request - Sahara Reporters by harry509: 8:31pm On Apr 14, 2015 |
Realdeals: www.nairaland.com/attachments/2310699_diezanialisonmadueke_jpeg71201508afce57ccae707e264d421f0a No fewer than six countries have already refused to grant an asylum request by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, the Business Council for Africa (BCA) said in its just-released monthly report, noting that about US$ 1 trillion is the latest estimated figure of the looting of the Nigerian treasury between 1960 and 2005 alone.
The report, dated March 2015, focused extensively on Nigeria’s general elections. It said the notorious Minister, whose impunity is known to have been closely-protected by President Goodluck Jonathan, will be coming under the microscope for the first time in her Ministerial career.
“Given her reputation, it comes as no surprise to learn that 6 countries have already refused to grant her asylum to live in their countries as she now wishes to leave Nigeria at the earliest possible opportunity,” it said.
BCA recalled President-elect Muhammadu Buhari lamenting that the rest of the world looks at Nigeria as the home of corruption, one where stealing is not corruption but a way of life, and that his administration will pursue all public offices and individuals who are believed to be guilty of corruption.
It observed that despite an earlier promise, it is now understood that Buhari’s anti-corruption fishing net will include Ministers currently serving under President Goodluck Jonathan. Alison-Madueke’s departure from Nigeria is likely to be followed by several other PDP elders, party members and supporters as well as some former Government officials, as Buhari's anti-corruption drive will be far-reaching.
“It will be very interesting to learn in the coming months exactly how far back in Nigeria's history his administration will go in the pursuance of those who have robbed Nigeria of US$ 1 trillion, which is the latest estimated figure of theft from the Nigerian treasury between the period 1960-2005. Given that President Jonathan's administration is considered the most corrupt of any of its predecessors, that figure is going to be considerably magnified, but whether the new President will wish to pursue former Heads of State is a matter of interest and considerable debate to Nigerian observers. It is this subject that is primarily responsible for Buhari's success in winning the election as well as his campaign promises to eradicate Boko Haram, revive the economy and rebuild Nigeria to make its position as the number one country in Africa.
While BCA agreed that the March/April 2015 were “the most credible elections in Nigeria's history”, it said they could not be called the most incorruptible.
On the contrary, it referred to them as the worst because of the amount of money that the PDP so freely and openly spent on trying to secure the re-election of Mr. Jonathan.
“The stories and reports from throughout the 36 States of the amount of money distributed by the PDP to elders, rulers, church leaders, unions and youth leaders amongst others in an endeavour to favour the voters towards the PDP has backfired badly,” the report said.
BCA said that if the 2011 elections were considered bad, the 2015 elections will undoubtedly go down as the most corrupt in Nigeria's history, certainly since 1999, as the amount of money being distributed as bribes primarily by the PDP so very openly would readily confirm.
It reported that since November when campaigning began, President Jonathan and General Buhari during their travels made no fewer than 109 promises of what they intend to achieve if given the mandate in the presidential election.
“President Jonathan's campaign continued to hinge on his party's Transformation Agenda and the achievements of his Government in the last 4 years, particularly in the agricultural sector, job creation and the empowerment of women,” the report said. In that regard, it credited Jonathan as having achieved a great deal during his tenure.
It said it was however Jonathan’s failures - rampant corruption, insecurity, inability to eliminate the Boko Haram insurgency, failure in such sectors as the economy, and power in particular, and the overall feeling that he was ruled rather than led - that have cost him his re-election bid.
The report also stated that in the 2015 elections, up to 250 Nigerians lost their lives, describing that deplorable record as speaking volumes for the control achieved by the Police at the campaign rallies by the two main candidates.
It described the cost of the campaigns of the two main parties as “simply staggering”, noting that by the first week of March, Buhari had spent some N332.58 billion as compared to the expenditure of President Jonathan which amounted to N1.05 trillion.
“This is without taking into account the cost of other expenses for such items as campaign rallies, where the PDP has spent N1.06 billion against Muhammadu Buhari's APC's N595.08 million, and clearly demonstrates the desperate lengths that the PDP have gone to in order to try and secure the re-election of President Jonathan.”

Tosin007: Popular Nigerian musician 2face Idibia has recounted the early days in his career, when he had nothing and had to hustle for a living.
Speaking in an interview with Views Channel, 2face talks about the devastating incident, that led to his dropping out of school.
According to him, he was robbed of all his audio cassettes that he recorded and he was so devastated and later dropped out of school to face music.
He also recounts how he used to claim ‘staff’ when he boarded public buses in Lagos because he had no money to pay for his bus fare.
Staff is a popular word in Nigeria used by public servants like policemen or members of the armed forces whenever they enter public transport so they would not pay their bus fare.
He said: “I got robbed sometime in school. All my audio cassettes that I recorded they took them. I was sad for like a year plus. I dropped out and I am like look I am not continuing this thing I am going to follow music.
“I actually confessed to my parents. I told them the truth that I am not going back to school. I am going to Lagos, Festac town. All this waka wey I dey talk so, na molue… staff, sometimes na fight we go fight. Them go pursue us from bus.”
Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as 2face is a proud father of seven children from three different women. He is happily married to Annie Idibia and they have two daughters together.

Politics › Re: Patience Jonathan Arrives Abuja Aboard Emirates Airlines by harry509: 9:44pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
Adesiji77: While speculations were rife over the whereabouts of the First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, since the March 28 presidential election, which saw President Goodluck Jonathan heroically conceding defeat to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, THISDAY can authoritatively confirm that the first lady had been outside the country from where she returned on Tuesday.
She arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja via Emirates Airlines.
While our source could not confirm the country she was coming from when the plane landed at about 5.30p.m. local time, Mrs. Jonathan’s arrival had put to rest the speculation of her whereabout.
The reason for the trip was however not disclosed.
Airport sources told THISDAY that the Emirate flight which brought her carried regsitration nos: A6-EWH, with over 201 passengers on arrival. On arrival, the outgoing first lady was briskly escorted to the presidential wing by security officials where three official Mercedez Benz cars were positioned for her.
Also, a milk colour bus joined the three Mercedez Benz cars to escort her to the Presidential Villa.
The source, who confirmed the first lady’s arrival, hinted that unlike the usual large crowd which usually accompany her on both local and oversea trips, this time, it was just a handful of close associates adorning native attires and about two wearing suits and trousers.
THISDAY checks revealed that Mrs Jonathan’s last public outing was on March 28 in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, the country home of the president, where she cast her vote in accompany of her husband.
Also speaking with THISDAY on condition of anonymity, a clergy man familiar with the religious engagements of the first lady said she was conspicuously absent at last Sunday Easter celebration at the Villa.

God Win crooner, Korede Bello’s invitation to sing at Harvesters International Christian Centre (HICC) has drawn criticism from US-based, Pastor Olusola Fabunmi.
The Mavin Records artiste was a special guest at the three services of the Lekki branch of the dynamic church under the leadership of its youthful shepherd, Pastor Bolaji Idowu.
With back-up vocals from the praise team, Korede Bello thrilled the youthful church audience with a live performance of his popular anthem, God Win. For a moment, his brief performance sent the auditorium into frenzy.
But Pastor Fabunmi is not thrilled by the artiste’s invitation to perform on a church alter. He quoted James 4:4, “Friendship with the world is enmity to God? Whosoever therefore will be friend of the world is enemy of God.”
“Korede Bello is a young man I love personally, and have nothing against him. But it’s written here, that when we chose the way of the world, we have clearly chosen our paths; becoming an enemy of God. Please, there must be a clearly defined boundaries of who sings, and /or ministers in churches. Some of the questions that comes to mind are; is he born again? Sanctified with the spirit of God and baptized in the Holy Spirit,” he said.....

Politics › Re: How I Was Almost Mobbed Today In Ado Ekiti by harry509: 10:31pm On Apr 07, 2015 |
ogalawyer: I'm still in shock over what happened to me today. I'm a youth corper serving in Ado Ekiti. On my way to the office Ado Ekiti this morning, I observed that the Fajuyi park area of the town was blocked by security operatives and motorcycles were not being allowed to ride through. I was puzzled as to what was going on, as I just got back to the state from my hometown d night before. Anyway I proceeded to my office. About two hours later, I heard some singing and noise from outside. As l was kind of bored, I decided to go and observe. On getting to the outside of my office complex, I saw a large crowd of people singing and walking on the main road. I realised they were protesting. But since there were no sign of violence, I presumed, albeit wrongly, that it was a peaceful protest. Therefore, and in order to test the picture quality of the phone I just bought, I decided to take pictures. That was a very grave mistake, I now realise. Immediately, a man saw me taking the pictures, he descended on me. The crowd followed suit and before I could mention Jesus, I started receiving blows and slaps from everywhere. The shirt and inner shirt I was wearing was torn out of my body. After the security men managed to restrain d crowd, I was told to delete d pictures, which I did. The crowd was not still satisfied and insisted that I give my phone to them, so they could smash it. I refused. Another round of beating then commenced, this time more viciously. I was pushed to the ground and they were all raining blows and slaps on my body. I managed to extricate myself from the melee and ran for my dear life. Some tried chasing me, but I was quicker. I then went to hide in a part of d complex. After about 5 minutes, a vicious looking guy came to meet me where I was hiding and said I should give him my phone, else he finishes me off there and then. He said he has been instructed by the powers that be to either smash my phone or finish me off. Or in the alternative, he will take me to d crowd waiting fr me outside so they can deal with me in their own way. I started begging him and told him I was just a youth corper and I was neither a politician or from Ado Ekiti. After showing him my NYSC I.d. card and giving him the last 500 naira in my wallet, which he requested for, as bribe, he let me go and instructed me to go and hide as best as I could. I was later transported outside the premises by a good Samaritan, before I found my way home. Though I'm an ardent follower of political happenings in the country, I have never been a fanatic, and I never expected this type of behaviour from rational human beings. Mehn, these guys where filled with anger, and they could kill without hesitation. Politics should not be a do or die affair. It is high time we jettison this culture of barbarism and embrace peace and dialogue. Anyway, I'm thankful to God, that it didn't get worse than it did. Though I'm feeling pains all over my body, I'll survive and at least I still have my phone. eya doh oo. Ekiti state use 2 b vry peaceful state ooh bcus I serve there 2. emmalezy: Reports gathered by ReportNaija reveals that award winning Gospel Singer, Osinachi Kalu popularly known as Sinach has been banned from singing during services or any special occasion at Christ Embassy.
We learnt that the newly married singer, who is regarded as Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s ‘anointed daughter’, got the shocking restriction from the pulpit after she performed at ‘The Experience’ last year december.
Further investigation revealed that Pastor Chris, who is still caught in a messy divorce saga had warned his staff against serving two masters at same time. Thus, none of them is permitted to take an outside job as long as they still worship in his church.
A reliable source close to the singer squealed to us that aside Sinach’s performance at The Experience, she also got the punishment because Pastor Oyakilome wasn’t in support of the man she married.
“The Pastor placed an order that none of his staff is permitted to take outside jobs, despite the fact that the church’s salary doesn’t come regularly. The problem between Sinach and the Pastor started when she got married to Pastor Joe. He wasn’t in support of their union.
Although Sinach still attends services, she doesn’t sing in the church, special programme or communion service. In fact she might even leave the church soon, “, the source told us.
