When it comes to Nigeria, there is no correlation. Sars operatives were extra judicial in their affairs. What is fake news about that?

Donald Trump inciting his supporters to "not be weak" and his supporters doing the will of their master by invading the capitol while in session is what?

How many end sars protesters invaded Aso rock?

The closest comparison would be the BLM protests. But no, you're comparing apples to onions.

Arrewa:
The conventional print media has always been biased against the North and Muslims in General, and this hasn't changed with the news media.

Hausa Muslims were killed in oyigbo but there is no outrage.
The killers are the IPOB terrorists, & those that championed the Endsars protest on social media are deliberately not interested in these killings because those Nigerians killed are the Hausa Muslims.

Our rich/Elites must necessarily invest in media, nobody will tell your story if you don’t tell them yourselves, even if they do, they’ll never do justice to you.

Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will glorify the hunter”.

Thank God for social media
I guess IPOB are paid by the government to protect lives and properties. . .

What is the relationship between the scenarios you highlighted?

Rip to those that lost their lives.

Politics / Re: Who Else Is Feeling Somehow About This Endsars Protests Now? by HarryDuce(m): 1:08am On Oct 20, 2020

The demonstration was against SARS.

It's called 'EndSars'.

THAT has been achieved!!

NOW, if you want to start a movement to end police brutality in general, you go home, map out your specific demands for police reform, and come out with them, perhaps in a new round of demonstrations.

But to just stay on the streets making demand after demand is hurting the nation's economy and stability, in addition to being senseless.

The protesters demand five things to be addressed not just end "sars". Even the presidency acknowledges as much.

Anyway, nothing will work without addressing the crucial issues. I feel the government needs to be kept in their toes or else they'll slack as usual. That they have banned sars will not prevent a regular constable from demanding bribes.
People protesting for entirely different purposes are just making use of opportunity. It was inevitable.

Are you aware that SARS has been disbanded, as demanded by the protesters?

This is 2019 news. Nothing we're not familiar with.

What about the police force as a whole? Very dysfunctional. What has been done besides giving empty speeches?

Bills? Laws? Codes?

I supported these protests when they started, but they seem to have metamorphosed into a combination of anarchical - gay - lesbian rights - anti-govt - anti-everything protests that seem to be leading to more confusion and economic and social dysfunction and imbalance in the country.

Methinks it's time for folks to go home and give the govt time and space to actualize the promised changes, following the dissolution of the dreaded police unit.

Thanks, countrymen and women.
Give the government time and space to make oppressive laws and hide pocket filling loopholes you mean?

The government has not done anything concrete so far to meet the demands of the protesters. We haven't seen any progressive laws or bills on the issue --very important. Telling us, "we will" is for the gullible to be deceived. It's sad people are losing steam already; giving avenue for unfocused individuals. But that's to be expected.

Seeing as there's no where else close to the level of Lagos, then Lagos it is!

Culture / Re: About The Surnames Of Rivers State Indigenes by HarryDuce(m): 10:44am On Sep 05, 2020
It was/is more a thing of prestige --to distinguish themselves from their neighbours-- and for easy pronunciation on the path of the Europeans after centuries of close interactions. They didn't "lose" their culture like some ignoramuses claim.

They bear European surnames alongside their native names. For every Horsfall, Lawson, Hart, Tariah, Pepple, Bobmanuel, Quaker, Douglas, Braide, David West, Princewill, Jackreece, Jack-Rich, Briggs, you have; Amachree, Dagogo, Igoniwari, Alalibo, Origoni, Batubo, Kalio, Diepreye, Okilo, Ikoli, Dokubo, Omubo, Darego, Owunari, Idoniboye-Obu, Ibulubo, Ibama and many more .

Don't get it twisted, there is no gas or oil in Bonny.
That's why they pay for the power they have.
They just have deep waters for NLNG facility and ships for export of gas abroad.
The only place that enjoys free electricity is Omoku because they have abundant gas reserves
What about Bonny light crude? Where does it come from?

RuudVanNisteroy:

Why do we like to lie in this country. Rivers State with it's allocation should far surpass Rwanda in terms of infrastructural development. It past leaders Odili,Amaechi and the current Governor decided to not use the allocations judiciously.
Well, what you consider lies is up to you. There is nothing peculiar about what the politicians in Rivers state are doing. It is the same story nation wide - federal and state governments have been robbing the country blind for over half a century. Has Nigeria used her oil wealth sanely? It's a very simple thing.

Education / Re: Some Commonly Confused Animals: Can You Tell Them Apart? by HarryDuce(m): 5:06pm On Aug 06, 2020
Also, some of them are associated with specific geographical locations.

The bison, alligator and jaguar are new world animals: they're found in the wild exclusively in the Americas. The alligator being an exception can be found exclusively in the US and also in China. There are no alligators in Africa.

The leopard, crocodile and Cape buffalo are old world animals; Cape buffalos roam the continent of Africa while the leopard and crocodile can be found both in Africa, Asia and Australia.

Politics / Re: Rivers People Don't Travel: An Erroneous Notion by HarryDuce(m): 1:21pm On Aug 03, 2020
mrvitalis:

That's the issue ...u guys only want to travel to a place that's an upgrade ?

Igbos are all over the north ...is the north and upgrade ? ... Chinese are a over Nigeria is Nigeria an upgrade ? ..... relatively speaking rivers people don't travel that's a fact I grew up in Port Harcourt
Well, if it's not for the purpose of vacationing (which many Rivers indigenes do), what's the point of relocating --or travelling-- if there isn't much money to be made?

Rivers people are not "40 million strong" like the Igbos or in the billions like the Chinese. I don't see why you'd expect them to leave their state in their numbers to go somewhere less prosperous.

I could argue that the north is an upgrade to -- Kaduna and Kano at least-- Ebonyi and Abia.
Politics / Re: Rivers People Don't Travel: An Erroneous Notion by HarryDuce(m): 11:33am On Aug 03, 2020
lacasera14:
I don't know who proposed that theory, carried out the experiment and certified it a fact for propagation that Rivers people don't travel. In as much as Rivers State is Nigeria's third largest economy and most important state where people migrate to for greener pastures, it's indigenes are still residents of other states. Travelling is a personal choice and not what you attribute to a whole state. I've seen Rivers People in Kano and Kaduna infact they even have an association alongside Bayelsa people. Rivers people have civil servants who get transferred to to other states. Uniport and UST can't be everyone's choice so Rivers Students are almost every University in Nigeria with NURSS full established there. Rivers people are in the army, navy, police and virtually every endeavor you can think of in this life that demands moving out. The oil in Rivers can not favor everyone, some are into tech and Lagos is the choice location. They don't have to leave their place to go and do business in osogbo before you say they travel. You can say they don't go out for business but asserting that they don't travel as whole is only ridiculous and unwise. Stop peddling falsehood about a people when you've not conducted a statistics. I'm from Rivers and I love travelling. Half of my family members were born and breed in Lagos, they speak Yoruba fluently and married Yoruba women. I have uncles in Kaduna who have been there since I was kid. I have relatives in Enugu as well. I'm in Jigawa at the moment after staying in Akwa Ibom for many years. Both locations I've met Rivers people who based there. So quit the generalizations already.
It's very convenient for intellectually lazy people to make broad and hasty assumptions about a whole group of people like is the case with some Nigerians. You'll learn to ignore it. I've heard this "Rivers people don't travel" like forever.

There are many Rivers indigenes in Lagos and Kaduna and Abuja, as well as neighbouring states like Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa.

Travelling outside the country is also a given for many of them because... How many states can be regarded as an upgrade to Rivers State?
Education / Re: Student Calls On Govt. To Reopen Schools After Seeing Fully Packed Viewingcenter by HarryDuce(m): 2:23pm On Jul 29, 2020
I don't really understand the comparisons. Churches and viewing centers are not mandatory social gatherings. If schools are opened, a student must go to school whether he or she likes it or not. There's no choice in the matter. Go to school, or fail. The fact that many people choose to disregard safety measures does not mean that the government should also impose disregard for safety on others.

I understand the distrust though, but the process should not be rushed.
