http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2011031036139

Opposition parties and their presidential candidates on Wednesday berated the Peoples Democratic Party for its refusal to sign the reviewed code of conduct guiding campaigns and behavior of candidates for the April general elections.

The Congress for Progressive Change and the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties said the PDP’s rejection of the code of conduct was a testimonial to its do-or-die approach to elections.

“It is in their character and that is why they are not keen on signing the document. Their do-or-die posture in approaching election matters is manifesting itself with this behaviour. The voters should note what is happening,” the spokesman for the CPC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), Mr. Yinka Odumakoin, said.

Forty-six political parties had on Tuesday signed the code of conduct jointly drafted by the Independent National Political Parties and the Inter-party Advisory Council. The council consists of all political parties.

The code reads in part, “Political parties and their agents shall not engage in any of the following corrupt practices--- forcible occupation or invasion of a polling station, collation centre and INEC office.”

“No political party or candidate shall use its power of incumbency to prevent other parties or candidates from pasting their posters or distributing their leaflets, handbills and other publicity materials in public places.

“All political parties shall file with the Commission details of their public rallies and meetings in any particular area prior to such meetings.

“All parties shall separate party business from government business. As such, parties shall not utilize public resources for party activities and shall not permit any of its sponsored candidates holding public office to use public resources for the purpose of political campaigning in elections.”

The PDP, meanwhile, said it was not under any obligation to sign the document, though it said its members delegated to the signing ceremony would still brief the National Working Committee of the party on what transpired between them and INEC officials.

While 46 parties signed the code, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Abubakar Baraje, who represented the PDP at the signing ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday refused to sign the document. Baraje said he had no mandate of his party to sign the document.

Criticising the PDP, Odumakin said the ruling party was responsible for the lawlessness in the country.

“It is the PDP that is responsible for the impunity in the land. We will however not pressure on INEC to force the PDP to sign, but we will do that to the electorate to take a definite stand by voting out the PDP in the April elections” he said.

Also, the presidential candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, said he was surprised that the PDP as the ruling party did not sign the code of conduct.

Ribadu, who spoke through the Director of Media and Publicity of his campaign organization, Ibrahim Modibo, said, “If it is true that the PDP did not sign the code of conduct at INEC, then we are amazed that the party has taken this route.

“Electoral integrity comes on a shared agreement on the conduct of election. We hope the President who has advocated for a clean election will call his party to order.

“The party cannot promote the feeling that it has a conduct different from that of INEC which is the statutory agency to regulate the election.” Ibrahim Modibbo said.

The CNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said the PDP as the ruling party should be laying good examples. “They (PDP members) have demonstrated that they believe in do-or-die politics. Their refusal signals dangers ahead. What have they got nothing to showcase in the last 12 years. There are no new refineries, no new roads and teaching hospitals,” he said.

The National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Chief Olusola Oke told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Wednesday that the leadership of the party would listen to Baraje, who represented the party at the occasion and review the content of the conduct, adding that if any section of it is found to be in contradiction with the Electoral Act, the party will jettison the document.

Oke said, “Those that we delegated to the meeting are expected to brief the members of the National Working Committee very soon on the discussion they had with the INEC officials.

“Let me tell you that the document is not compulsory. That is, we are not under any obligation to sign it.

“If we found any section of the code of conduct objectionable or we found any of it contravening the Electoral Act, we will not sign it.

“This is because the Act has stipulated how the election should be conducted and offences for any offence.”

Asked if the party was not bothered with the barrage of criticism that might trail its action on the matter, Oke said the PDP would not allow anyone to push it around.

Asked when the party’s NWC would be meeting on the matter, he said such meeting depended on the ongoing presidential campaign programme of President Goodluck Jonathan.

AjanleKoko:
As an employer?

I thought that was the whole idea. As an employer, you have the money, and you own the business. You're supposed to hire someone more qualified and experienced than you are.
Maybe you mean as a manager, if you have to work with people more qualified and experienced than you. Well, you have to focus on leadership and man-management, rather than trying to compete with your subordinates. Use your authority wisely, but ensure you use it in such a way that you won't be undermined. Never try to compete with a subordinate, it will always end bad.
in addition, as an entrepreneur your major focus is to manage your workers and finances, while using the best resources to achieve your major aim, so to have a well qualifies personnel should be a plus. let them know you appreciate their contribution and incentive for performance should be considered.

PoliticsRe: President Goodluck Jonathan's Approval Rating by hasyak(m): 4:54pm On Mar 02, 2011
came across this thot i share with all.

Barely six days to the presidential debate, there is disagreement between President Goodluck Jonathan and three other presidential candidates over the mode of the debate.

The others are Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (Action Congress of Nigeria); Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Congress for Progressive Change); and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau (All Nigeria Peoples Party).

Television station NN24 in conjunction with about 30 international stations, is organising the live debate for the four top runners. There are 17 other candidates running for President in the April 9 poll.

The order of the debate as arranged is as follows: First Presidential debate (March cool; Vice-Presidential debate (March 11); and Second Presidential debate (March 18).

In preparation for the debate, the management of the TV station and the collaborators met with representatives of the four candidates last Tuesday.

Those who attended the meeting were Dr. Doyin Okupe (PDP); Mr Yinka Odumakin (CPC); Mr Ibrahim Modibbo (ACN); and Mallam Sule Yau Sule (ANPP)

But the pre-debate session was stalemated following Jonathan camp’s two-point demands.

The PDP demanded that the advance copy of questions be made available to candidates. It also requested an outright stoppage of the studio audience from posing questions to the candidates.

It was learnt that representatives of Buhari, Ribadu and Shekarau, however, insisted on an open debate without inhibitions.

It was gathered that when the stalemate could not be resolved, the meeting was shifted till yesterday to find solutions to grey areas.

But when the session reconvened, the representative of the PDP candidate was absent.

A top source said: “All the four candidates are sticking to their positions and this irreconcilable challenge is a threat to the debate.

“I think there is that suspicion that the opposition is trying to use the debate to embarrass the President on key economic issues like the 60-40% ratio of recurrent and capital allocations; excess crude account; and foreign reserves.

“The way some of the candidates have been passionate about the state of the economy is a worry to the Jonathan camp.

“They are also suspecting that the audience might be skewed in favour of the opposition candidates.”

Another source at the session said: “We won’t allow any candidate to have prepared questions and later come to the session with a teleprompter.

“What we are demanding is that Nigerians and the world should assess the presidential candidates based on their natural endowments.

“We will rather cancel the debate than bend the rules for one of the candidates.”

But a source in the Jonathan camp said: “The manner in which some representatives of the other candidates were behaving at the pre-debate meeting showed clearly that they are up to mischief.

“Mr. President has nothing to hide and he is not afraid of debate but he won’t be a party to mischief.

An official of the Shekarau campaign organisation said last night that the ANPP candidate’s team will speak on the debate tomorrow.

I have only two questions and if anybody can answer it sincerely, Nigerians should no who to vote for President in 2011

Question 1: Why are the Northern Corrupt Leaders(e.g IBB, ATIKU etc) ARE NOT SUPPORTING and HAS NEVER SUPPORT BUHARI?

Question 2: Why are all KNOWN CORRUPT LEADERS IN NIGERIA ARE WILLING,ABLE  AND READY TO SUPPORT  GEJ?

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS SINCERELY?
common sense, but it is really common?

from your question you will have an indication why they will not support him, because business will not be as usual, and if they support GEJ, the biz continue as usual. so it is left for us now to come out and say biz should not continue as usual!

from personal experience, when i was managing and thought i was ready for marriage the girls then were just making fool of me, from one disappointment to another, because you will  start begging for their understanding and compromising on what you would not have. then i decided to forget about marriage and just focus to better myself.

with God blessings my condition change drastically for the better, come and see those that abandoned me then all start calling me, even the once that are married  were ready to leave their hubby and come back to me. but to be honest the new challenge now is how do i know whom really like me and not my money? then confusion set in? am very happily married now though.

so my advise to you is do not worry yourself God time is the best just be positive and work hard, surely God blessings will come your way, then you sit and start laughing and pitying those that left you, your problem now, whom will it be? and be very careful never take back those that left you now.

^^^ That still does not make any sense!!!

By the way "If X, then Y" is modeled on FACT  . . .  FACT That makes up your life, my life, life of those and the world around. -- If you do not know something, it is best to stay away from it.

Facts are beyond what you, and I, are willing to comprehend or reject. Fact is what is, and you accept AS IS. Facts live outside of that box in which we each store our understanding, and capacity. If you need to reconstruct the facts( create copies that bend to your rules) to FIT/SUIT your understanding, then what you have is NO LONGER THE FACT but your TWIST on it - when you take various truths, and then start to create illogical connections to suit your mindset, the result is no longer the same truths you had initially, but that which you have cooked up all by yourself. . . . . Take your own advice there -- Stop arguing blindly!
kobojunkie, int'l politic is more than what the eye sees, US as a policy do not have any permanent friend only permanent interest, and what do you think their interest is in egypt? you may not want to believe that, but its know that america as a country always pushes for her interest in any country that they have interest in, they will not come out and openly support their interest, it is done covertly.
