Even if he's an aboki what grants you guys the audacity to question is hard earn professional qualification even at death. Respect your self and speak positive. RIP to the dead and quick recovery for the survivors. I pray God grant grace to the families of those dead and injured to bear the loss and see through the injured.

guonno: If the mods like, let them ban me for life I will create another account. The only person I have explanation for is phantom. I posted this statement: "there will be crash in the west until enugu inter air port is left alone" and now am adding the north too, not just the west. Do u know how many people has lost their life to the fulani armed thieves just bc they had to transport through lagos ibadan expressway from the east just to take flight to foreign country for biz? Now tel me why the enugu inter air port has not been functional? Its simple, bc some set of people in the west and north clamped down on the developement of the eastern nigeria, later fashola will ask Peter Obi to develop the east, not putting into consideration the fact that past ministers of west and north extraction did all they could to clamp down development in the east, as a result of these development a lot of easterners had lost their lives, health care has not been given attention, education, look at the erosion in the east that carries away peoples farmland and leave communities to starve to death. God bless GEJ its during his time that most fed project is sited in the six geo zones unlike before where ull find fed project all over the sw and north. If u like call me bigot, I will gladly answer, all I know is that nigeria will not know peace until the injustice on the predominantly christian east be lifted. Tell me why the east should have the lowest LGA in nigeria? Do u know that it translates to getting crumbs from the pocket of the FED? @ phantom- ewu na maro onwe ya. Onye na maro ebe mmili si bido mabaya amaro ebe okwusiri mabaya.

stop protesting on nairaland. Ibos were the senate president all through 1999-2007. What input did they have in developing your land. Just let the country agree that ibos are to produce the next president, then you will start hearing core Ibo or non core Ibo. What is happening in anambra today. Is it not a show of selfishness and disunity. Address your problems first and stop ranting here. Next time open your thread and stop derailing and tribalizing on such a sensitive topic. RIP to the dead.

Who will come and work in a place where a professors take home is less than 400K montly (just about 1600 pound) that is not enough to rent some 2-3bed apartment in London montly. Sack them all and bring professors and PhD holders from UK if you can pay. On the cheap, they can hire from Chinese or India.

FG just keep doing silly things. I learnt they are building a centenary city in Abuja. Is that what the country needs now.

ennon92: C these useless ppl o, so they want to collect salary they haven't worked for...God punish u all. They should better call it off if they re hungry.

if you don't pay them, they will also not work or they will begin work on assumption of having done the work you didn't pay them for. E.g if a school was a month to exams before the strike/ no work, no pay policy. Whenever they resume, they will begin work on assumption that they have taught, done exams and are ready for a new session. How about that? Academics are not those in whom such policies work, the government will only keep compounding the problem.

Those who owe should pay and not threaten people. We all can see the mago mago way PHCN was handed over without settling its workers and pensioners, is that how to solve problems.

ennon92: I've vowed not to comment on any ASUU's issues again but with wut u've said, it seems am gonna shift ground on this. I think u re right when u said 'he won't add a dime'. For crying out loud, ASUU is not d only professional body in Nigeria, so y re they doing this to we students by embarking on a long illegal strike... It seems these ppl re not thinking @ all cos if they do, they'll know it only affects d students and not FG..

Perhaps, their so called earned allowances should be generated via school internal revenue..To be candid student re paying more than enough. I've been saying this b4, state varsities av no rights whatsoever in joining hands with the federal varsities to strike since they re founded and funded by d states. Well, am urging them to call off d strike soon with an immediate effect.

Which universities are you even talking about? The least university in South Africa is better than our best. Don't even mention Egypt or Kenya? Same applies to our hospitals, what has the FG done to improve the hospitals? Why are they all traveling out for check up? Why is the petroleum industry bill pending? Why is Farouk case and other high profile cases pending? Why is there serious attention to the divide in PDP rather than attention to National issues. Why is it easier to do bad things and very difficult to do good things? Why is it easier to grant amnesty to militants and bail out banks, and we cannot bail out education and health? Why is it that Nigeria is the only OPEC country that imports refined Oil. Why can't I have power supply for 72hours stretch and my fixed charge has been increased by 200% in 3 years (250- 750)?

Why do we have several individuals who are billionaires without companies or who don't have a minimum of 100 people on their payroll? Which kind of business are they doing, that does not create jobs, yet they are billionaires? Finally, why can the EFCC prosecute again as of the old days and why has the judiciary joined alliance with corruption? One day someone will answer this questions, or a people will fight for their freedom, or a total revolution will occur. Please remember that a goat has teeth, so continue pushing it, one day it will bite you and you will wonder if it was a dog.

onyxo76: i really pity your ignorance, in yankee don't residents get paid while in training?? A resident may be a post graduate medical doctor but how do you expect him to survive and feed his/her family while training to become a specialist?? You cannot be an MO in an FG hospital at the same time a resident in another teaching hospital ,the system will find you out... Which parent after training his ward for close to 7 years in medical school will now continue to pay school fees for another 4-7 years for the chap to become a consultant?? I almost have a feeling that your family has never produced a medical doctor let alone a consultant...

Nice talk spoilt with the parent issue. What do you say about parent who train up to PhD level right here n Nigeria?

Answering questions during the Presidential Media Chat last night as part of the programmes, marking the 53rd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, Jonathan said “Why should a state university lecturer go on strike for a federal problem?, the president queried.

Must you abuse everyone. You google non payment of doctors in Nigeria for yourself and read the response. As a matter of fact some are yet to receive payment of up to 7months now. ( House Officers)

Actionleap: From what I learnt, the FG is trying to weed out ghost workers. The people handling the electronics/biometric registration waited in these hospitals like LUTH for a whole month and none of the doctors showed up for the registration. Hence, the FG said if you don't sort out the ghost workers among you, the FG won't be able to pay. Most Nigerians workers (public and private) are very corrupt, yet they scream loudest calling the govt corrupt.

you are wrong. The registration was done last year and you don't expect a house doctor who started work in January to fill the form April last year when he or she was still a student

Ask how much is being paid for Montessori education per term in Lagos? Compared to your new per fee. Same story I will keep saying, if government cannot subsidize education, they should stop deceiving us.

the school is free from ASUU Strike, SUG protest and so on because they are able to raise funds. My last visit in 2007 after 3 years made me wonder on the kind of infrastructure the school has in place. Not even UNILAG can boast of that. Lecturers attend sponsored conferences, researches are sponsored e.t.c. This all buoys down to availability of funds,

it is either government sponsors education fully as requested by ASUU or they allow the schools to generate sufficient fund to keep it running. God bless Unilorin

The minister of Education Nyesom Wike has just announced that the propose strike by SSANU was not necessary as the salaries not paid has now been paid. He said the non payment of the Aug and September salaries wad due to an error.

He also hoped that the ongoing ASUU strike will be called off soon.

Please is it a joke or the country has just concluded to ride its staff?

Education / Re: SSANU Threatens To Strike Next Week by Hearme(m): 2:09pm On Sep 27, 2013
The correct information on this matter is that Nigeria is broke as earlier said by the minister of finance. The governors have been complaining of non payment of government subventions for the past 2 months. Mst of them used their savings. The universities that paid salaries used IGR with the hope government will pay before the subsequent month. Now, its all full stop as they can no longer pay another September salary.

Why is the government reducing what is to be shared from the federal allocation, which is creating ripple effect in states and some federal paralstatals? I hope it is not the aggressive looting for 2015 that's going on? Where is Maku, Okupe or Abati ? Is there no explanation for this nonsense or are they all in Newyork? We all await another lie on independence day. It is well Nigerians.

Gabbysky: Why should State Unis join in the strike when their business is solely with their respective State Govt.
They should rather stage their own protest stating their demands to their various Govt Secs

Out of the 100billion for infrastructure, BSU got 950million. Ask Suswan the last Project he did in that university? Then imagine the face of that school in the next 5years if they receive that same amount yearly on equipment and infrastructure. They have decided to run down our university system but God will salvage it from them through dedicated steps like this. So our degrees and schools can be well recognized all over the world and we can attract other Africans to study in Nigeria. Just imagine Nigerians in Benin Republic, Namibia, Ghana etc. The conclusion is that the giant is about to die or is dead, but someone must resurrect or resuscitate it.

If ASUU call of the strike today. You will be very greedy to have wished to just graduate and allow your younger ones or children to suffer deprivation.

Nice talk. Probably the president is tired of given call condolence messages to those killed by BH. Because whenever they say they are on top of the situation, boko boys hit in a wicked and callous way. E.g the killing of 30 students in yobe and the recent killing of 40 soldiers'. utumunta: How much is the budgetary allocation to the tertiary institutions in Uganda and Ghana that has made Makarere University and that of Legon to be better than most Nigerian universities?
The bitter truth is that the lecturers, in the spirit of Nigerian 'mentality' killed the university system with maladministration, nepotism, dichotomy, sexual gratification, infiltration of their rank by 'commercial intellectuals' and half-wits. Lecturers are too big to engage their students intellectually, these days. Merit has been sacrificed on the altar of gratification(sexual or monetary).
President Jonathan was their member and he knows what happens in the university system. We were students and we know what happens. There are students ,today, that know what happens.
ASUU became a joke when they started awarding honorary degrees to money bags and political buffoons. ASUU shot itself on the foot when they became as cheap as to award marks to female students for some minutes of pleasure. ASUU became a huge joke when serious- minded intellectuals left the shores of this country to seek better accademic environment in universities abroad. MOST of the lecturers left in the country now are pretended-intellectuals who gravitate towards their percunary and intimate interests while cowering before a bunch of numbskulls and clowns that pass off as political leaders. What we have as members of ASUU ,now, are emergency intellectuals that infest our young minds with amputated intellect and GIGO.
This is why they churn out students that are no better. This is why the little funds at their disposal are frittered in the pursuit of frivolities. This is the reason for the moral decadence pervading the institutions. An Ijaw proverb says that "a fish gets rotten from the head".
Why is the university system in Nigeria shut down and the government is not loosing sleep? ASUU is now on the same pedestal with the NURTW. The government accord NUPENG, NMA, NBA etc recognition while they ignore the ASUU that churned these people out and holds the potential for more.
My point is; ASUU is their own problem. The day ASUU wakes up as lecturers, conduct themselves as teachers and engage people like the role models that they ought to be. Until that day, ASUU shall continue to be a mirror of our society- a society of rot and decay-
God bless Nigeria!

You must be s machinery or a fool. Nigerians pay 1 million naira plus in Ghana every session. How much do you pay? Go and find out how much is paid in Kenya and South Africa and stop making noise hear. You spend at least 4million in a UK university for a masters degree.

What you should be saying is, can the government continue to subsidize education? If yes, then invest. If now, then allow the schools to charge their fees. E.g a returning student from Unilag pays 16,000 naira i.e less than 100dollars for a year. The least private school takes in Lagos per term is an average of 40k per term which amounts to about 120k per session. Don't you see the difference in secondary school student who attend state govt schools and those who attend federal and private schools were they were pay for education. The universities are gradually turning to that, as those who study at private schools are beginning to become more employable than those in public universities. Therefore stop talking nonsense.
