Mind you the government is not doing ASUU a favor with 130billion it is only doing what it supposed to do. Wastage in high places. Their previous houses, we were told was sold to them. I remember during the hot case of Bankole (former speaker), there was a write up that the president gave them the first option to buy their residence as a political reward to his 2011 candidature. The write up said Bankole purchased his house for 100million and was now renting it out to the new speaker for 40million per annum.

So why are they building new houses. Just imagine a resident that cost about 400million each for 4 people? How much will be used to maintain it and you much will they use for feeding like ASO rock.

castrokins:

You should ask ASUU how they expend TETFUND. What cause are they fighting for? After years of funding through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, can you say for a certainty that objectives of the fund were/are met?

Don't go there. Do you know that the 100billion Suswan claim to have raised was from TETFUND? Why will you agree a thing and refuse to budget it? Why ate we spending billions on election that will never be free and fair? Why will the government be preparing 1.5trillion for a census to count goats and chicken in the north to increase allocation?

Aside TETFUND, all state and federal universities would have revolted long ago. In fact as it was said by some one some state universities are worth to be named TETFUND universities.

Mikano in trouble. 70 generators are leaving.

Diesel suppliers are threatened, no more contract as usual.

if each generator consumes a minimum of 1million per annum (cost of diesel and maintenance. Of course a far underestimation, as most of us know what it cost to run diesel generators in Nigeria) then 700 million will be saved. I bet you that they can't use more than 100millin for both maintenance and gas supply to the new plant. So 600 million is saved and if you multiply this by 5 years, it implies the state has 3 billion saved which is about the cost of the plant. If the state decides to unction the generators to my beloved traders at 1million naira each that will amount to 70million naira which will pay the salaries of a local government in a month.

I remember that Odili did something like this in Rivers state. If all our leaders from 1999 has done a little of this, we would have been progressing gradually. Which other state has taken such initiative and brought it to fruition.

If this salary analysis of the senators is true, it literally means that a senator earns 5 times the annual salary of a professor montly.

the per annum of a Prof is below 6Million including all allowances. Reference google CONUASS II and check grade 7.

while a senator takes 29million plus montly if his or her salaries is consolidated

For Christ sake this people make millions from students every year. If not for corruption they money made from students cam be used to run each school effectively.

Really, then you would have had several private universities in Nigeria today. Ask your self what makes private Universities charge up to half a million or more as fees? What makes Nigerians pay 1million plus in Ghana to study. Tertiary education and education generally does not come cheap. Have you considered why some private primary and secondary schools can pay their teachers 150k montly while others struggle to pay 20k montly; it all buoys down to the funds available.

jaryeh: Sir,@ prof femi ,are you trying to defend ASUU because you are a member?

Well,that's none of my business.

The big question here is what are funds generated from the various fees used for? And do you think ASUU demands can really be implemented considering the present state of the economy?

Has the strike strategy as means of fighting for their rights worked over the years? If no,then why has ASUU decided to deliberately suffer the students?

thanks in anticipation

It has not worked you said. When it is on record that for the first time ever universities received 100 billion from government for infrastructure. Ask the FG, how much it has invested in his new 9 federal universities on infrastructure. Do you create without having a means of funding? Yet NUC will stick its neck out to see that private schools gets some level of infrastructure to begin.

Ask Covenant, Babcock, Bowen, Landmark, Redeemer's on how much they spend on infrastructure. @ poster, you tried in you calculations. But I must tell you that the FG is not fully responsible for salaries and pension in universities. They pay a percentage and leave the rest to be paid by the schools from their IGR. Just like its done with most ministries or department that generates income. E.g a certain % of what customs, FIRS, NNPC and even the PHCN generate are not returned to the govt in other to keep them functioning. Also be informed that the auditor generals office conducts audit on federal establishment regularly.

Abi o. With all their propaganda.

the truth is that funding is key to the ranking of this universities. The most competitive universities in the world, uses history ( Nigeria1948 havard 16th century), funding opportunities in grants and lesser teaching schedules to greater research centered schedules to attract the best brains in the world.

Here in Nigeria, the opposite is the case, no funding, no infrastructure, no power supply. Poor remuneration and the turning of our schools into teaching universities instead of a researching university. Even when asked to pay excess workload the FG is not interested. So is that how to excel.

Back to Unilorin, even if ASUU remains on strike for 5 years and it is the only institution working in Nigeria, she will never be in the first 400 universities in the world or even be the best in Nigeria.

Politics / Revenue Shortfalls Affects Payment Of Goverment Workers Salaries At All Levels by Hearme(m): 12:00pm On Oct 05, 2013
The drop in the monthly revenue allocations by the Federal Government to the 36 states of the federation has affected the finances and smooth-running of various governments.

Investigations by Saturday Punch showed that the shortfall in revenue allocation to states by the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee which started three months ago, had disrupted payment of salaries, pensions and financing of government projects in many states.

A cross-section of states that spoke with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, lamented that the shortfall in the allocations and non-disbursement of full allocations as at when due, had reduced the financial capacity of their governments, thus making it impossible for them to execute some vital projects.

While blaming the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for not remitting enough revenue to the coffers of the Federal Government, the states urged government to ensure adequate, transparent and accountable revenue remittance by the NNPC.

But as the states lament the toll of the shortage on their administrative efforts, President Goodluck Jonathan has intervened with a view to finding a quick solution to the problem.

Saturday Punch learnt on Thursday that the President had approved a sum of N75bn to be immediately made available to the FAAC to augment revenue shortfall for July.

Politics / Re: Civil Servants; Have You Been Paid Your September Salary? by Hearme(m): 11:47am On Oct 05, 2013
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has expressed confidence in the ability of the Federal Government to tackle the impasse in the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee concerning the sharing of revenue among the three tiers of government in the last four months.
Ahmed told journalists in Ilorin on Thursday that President Goodluck Jonathan was mindful of the impact of the deadlock on all tiers of government and would ensure an early resolution.
“We have been made to understand that FAAC will not be able to meet up with its augmentation of the federally allocated funds to all the tiers of government. Augmentation is designed to be part of the budget and the situation means that there will be shortfalls in allocations to the states,” he said.
While noting that the impact of the shortfall in revenue was already being felt, the governor called for an early resolution of the crisis in the interest of good governance.
“We can manage our expectations, we can build plans on the amount accruable to the state to articulate and execute budget to the letter, but the lack of control on the in-flows naturally denies you the opportunity of saying in clear terms that full implementation of the budget will be recorded,” Ahmed stated.
The governor, who lauded the early release of information about the challenges of FAAC, also assured the people of the state of the government’s commitment to ensure all ongoing projects are completed as scheduled.

The Chairman, Forum of South West Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria, Chief Kunle Ayantoye, has berated the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for her “lack of understanding of the dynamics of the nation’s economy.”
Ayantoye said at a press briefing in Osogbo on Thursday that the minister was intellectually sound, but she did not know how to run the economy of a nation like Nigeria.
He stated that states and local government councils had yet to receive the federal allocation for the month of July in October.
This, according to him, has crippled activities at health centres across the nation because, health centres are being run by the third tier of government.
He advocated fiscal federalism saying this would bring an end to the deliberate starving of other tiers of government who were at the mercy of the Federal Government.
He said, “That is why we are advocating fiscal federalism. We hope that Mr. President will be excited one day to do this as he had on Tuesday when he initiated the process for a national dialogue.
“We condemn the concentration of fiscal powers at Abuja. The concentration of fiscal power at the centre makes states and local government councils go cap in hand for their statutory allocations every month.

solomon111: OBJ tried?
Over $16billion spent during OBJ tenure and all he could achieve was a phantom "foundation"?
Remember that OBJ had 8 years to turn the electricity sector around.
Let's stop deceiving ourselves,OBJ was a monumental failure.

People live ke you need to google things or travel around before posting things. I'm sure you know that all those gas stations in Olorunsogo 1 and 2, Papalanto, Geregu and others were built in OBJ's regime including the most difficult of laying gas pipelines to these stations for generation of electricity.

These stations and others would have been functioning if not for YarAdua who set them aside. Govt is a continuum, tell me any power generating station that was built since 1983, before OBJ started this ones. This is why no body should vote for any Aboki in this nation again. They are not pro active. If you say am wrong, why could they not tackle the Almajiri system over the years, do they not forsee that some day, they will pay for it as is now witnessed by the presence of BH.

We need to keep building more. South Africa has about 38,000 mega watts. If we must be near them we must keep building and not talking of 5k mw with our population. Just today Unilorin told us they pay 11million montly on electricity, they made a mistake by not telling us how much they spend on diesel and maintenance of generator. I bet you it is more than that amount.

Mr man, read that post properly .
Less than 12 months was enough for them to loot the equivalent of more than 25 geregus.
He started with the advantages of OBJ's ending
He started with a bank balance with significant reserves.
He drained the excess crude account with nothing to show for it.
Massive foreign exchange reserve.
A declining recurrent to capital ratio.
With all this advantages and bearing in mind how the excess crude account was depleted from $22 billion to almost 0 ,fuel subsidy fraud etc,
The nation should be talking about 20000MW today.
Like I said earlier ,I dare him to build only 5 geregus right now without borrowing .just like obj.continue living in darkness
I'm out.

You did not inform them of debt cancellation pushed for by OBJ. Nigeria no longer service her 34billion dollars debt and does not have to pay it. Yet this new government is accumulating new debts all over the world and depleting our reserves with little to show for it. it is even getting hard for government to pay salaries (SSANU, NASU, PHCN and others). Soldiers and police received their Aug salaries 2nd week in Sept.

Last friday, Wike said it was an error in that SSANU salaries has now been paid. Except they will pay it this night that is when I will be wrong. The same lie they told us they have settled all PHCN staff, now they are saying they are yet to pay 38,000 people out of 45,000. Who is deceiving who in this IT age. I think they should come out and tell Nigerians what is wrong. The last time the Minster of finance said Nigeria was broke and might find it difficult to pay salaries, na so so summon National Assembly they give am.

I think my guess and yours might just right, because Labaran Maku also said of recent that government will short down if they are to meet ASUU request. They should say the truth ooooooooooooooooo. Or is it 2015 election money chop chop things.
