Just complicating things, you mean webometric itself is confused?

What stops UI from celebrating their 'excellence', if actually they are dominating in that field?

There is an adage in Igbo language that says when a warrior is praised for the one he has done, he would do more.

Allow UNN to bask in this achievement maybe this could spur them to surpass UI in the 'excellence' ranking if they are actually trailing UI there.

Ok no problem grin
EducationRe: University Of Ibadan VC, Olayinka Blasts UNN's Social Media Handler by HigherEd(op): 2:11pm On Jul 24, 2019
christejames:
Blast indeed! I saw his comment on UNN official facebook page being furious that the report by UNN was wrong which is false. As an academic that he is, the least she should have done was verify the claim of UNN before throwing tantrums like a kid that his meal was denied him.

Trust UNN, he was put and placed on the place that he should be from the replies he got. UNN calmly acknowledged his notice on the typographical errors and equally shared the link to him to verify himself. I even verified it on his behalf and guess what, UNN is right.

Ranked not just above UI but even University of Ghana our neighbors.

I don't know why when UNN makes any breakthrough y'all come for the attack, the criticism and even belittles her efforts. What does it take from you to at least commend them and look inward to know what you ain't doing right to be ranked higher. Even from your post HigherEd, I can infer how you have already rubbished the achievements of UNN just because it's based on citations but that's equally the amount of research output from an institution.

Great Lions and Lionesses!

#followNPFL
Well the point is this, if you must celebrate Citations as the basis of the whole ranking then you must give the full picture.

"Total citations" which UNN is parading represents just 10% of the total Webometrics rank.

"Excellence" represents 35% of the entire rank which measures the top citations received from top 10% universities in the world in 24 disciplines. UI usually leads in that area but you never see them parading that.

Webometrics is already very controversial as a whole. Let them wait till tomorrow when the full ranking is released before making any claims.
EducationUniversity Of Ibadan VC, Olayinka Blasts UNN's Social Media Handler by HigherEd(op): 12:42pm On Jul 24, 2019
The Handler who claimed UNN was ahead of UI and Covenant university made some typographical errors which the VC corrected.

Apart from that, the entire news was based on "Transparency" indicator of Webometrics which is one out of four component of the webometrics ranking which represents 10% of the total ranking.

I think it's time to have a uniform final examination on all courses offered by university. Or better still, one extra year where graduates from different universities can come together to sit for the same examination.

The manner and ways first class is rolling out from some of these private universities is questionable. I don't think most of our Federal universities like UNN, ABU, UNILAG etc which admits the best brains turn out these numbers of first class. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

The majority that attends private universities in Nigeria are those who could not meet up with cut off points but they have money to enter any private university.
where you aware that FG under Jonathan Organized pressid - a competition for 1st class grads and three out of three times CU's First class grads led everyone else.

Fake. Fake University. Had one so-called 1st class student from this same covenant university in my CDS group during NYSC, babe couldn't write a coherent article, only speaking through her nose with accent as if that substitutes for real intellect. Nigerian private universities where no real learning takes place.
Lol and real learning happens in your publics schools. You are a joker grin
EducationRe: 215 Bag First Class As Covenant University Graduates 1,580 by HigherEd:
Cool. The average UK university produces 400 - 800 First Class with percentages usually hovering around 25 - 45%. And that happens with all the clubbing and social distractions especially in City universities.

A Covenant with a very conservative Campus and a highly restrictive social environment only similar to that of Liberty University, USA should be able to produce about 500 first class graduates. More reinvestment should be made into bringing down the Student - Staff ratio, better pedagogy should be employed. Teaching aid should be thoroughly improved.

Christianity EtcSee The Picture Of The Hotel Where Bishop Oyedepo Got His Call To Ministry by HigherEd(op):
“All men dream: but not equally. Those that dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that is was vanity: but the dreamers of day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”

- T.E. Lawrence
Lawrence of Arabia

Amazingly the vision of the Living Faith movement birthed in this run down hotel on May 1981 has turned into a very successful Christian ministry. Apart from the spiritual accolades of the church the Church is present in 70 nations of the Earth, with millions of members. An highly successful education ministry. The ministry has grown to be wealthier than many small African nations.

Following the encounter, Oyedepo resigned his job with the federal ministry and sought for Eighteen people to help him fulfill his Vision.

In oyedepo's own words.

I was on a trip to Ilesha, now in Osun State of Nigeria on May 1st, 1981, on the look-out for the welfare of a Christian friend that I had not heard from, for some time. I was concerned, not knowing if he needed any form of attention. This was how I came into my place of encounter. I got to this brother’s place, but he wasn’t there. There was a note on his door announcing that he had travelled. Something gracious came out of me – “All things work together to the advantage of them that love the Lord.” It was soothing; I felt no disappointment at all.

Then the Holy Spirit said to me,

“Look out for a quite place, I want to talk to you.”

This was a timely instruction, because I had quite a lot of Christian friends in that town and I could have had a lot of fun being with them that day. However, I obeyed the voice of the Holy Spirit, and asked a passerby if there was any hotel on the outskirts of the town, where I could lodge. And that was how I met with destiny!

The quiet place I found was one 'International Hotel', Ilesha. It was a ‘great’ hotel, and I disliked the state of both the building and in particular the room. But I knew from my inside that I had to be there. Behold, as I knelt down to give thanks in that wonderful room, the encounter began!

PoliticsRe: Oby Ezekwesili Slams Buhari, Says "Becoming President Was Buhari’s Only Outcome" by HigherEd: 3:07pm On Jul 09, 2019
To be honest to Nigerians. If you actually woke up on that election Saturday morning and actually thumb printed for Buhari. It shows you have a very poor sense of judgment. What did you all expecthuh

I can tell you that man probably does not go to office anymore. He just wakes up and does whatever he likes. It's not just that Buhari is a bad leader, it's that he is incredibly Lazy. Bodily and Intellectually! How can a man hand over to himself, yet can't figure out his cabinet at this time.

If you ran a bank or any organization the way Nigeria is being run it would have totally crumbled by now.

Buhari lacks Vision, He is lazy. Those two attributes coupled with his bigotry makes him one of the worst leaders to have ever governed this country.

Next time you ppl should vote someone with track record in the private sector. Someone who has turned a dollar to five, not a man whose number if catlle has not increased since the time he began running for elections.

As part of the 2019 Young University Rankings, Times Higher Education has created a subset ranking of millennial universities (established since the year 2000).

This subset was derived from the overall Young University Rankings. The results were determined using the same methodology used for the THE World University Rankings, although the weightings were recalibrated to reflect the missions of young universities. The full methodology can be viewed here.
