someone should please remind me if China has the richest pastor in the world? or the biggest church auditorium?...that is what we are busy doing here in Nigeria.... *sighs
Shut your demonic mouth you this child of perdition how does church come into this argument? Does church collects your oil revenue? Does church receive allocations from your treasury? So how has the church impeded your govt from doing the same the Chinese govt is doing. Don't just make reductive and non correlating comments from your dysfunctional brain.

There are 52,000 churches in UK, 380,000 in USA yet they have lived in perpetual prosperity for centuries. The Britain that evangelized Christianity all over the world was more stronger, wealthier then than now when its Christianity has waned.

Church is a private community of individuals that exists all over the world which has blessed numerous communities and fought for many social justice issue. And mind you there are over 72 million Christians in China... And we are growing there in a phenomenal rate. So you go tell the bastard of a devil that sent you that you have failed in your demonic mission to associate Christianity with penury...

BYU is a top rated University in the US and it's cheap. . Google it. . More than 20% of their students are in full paid scholarships - both members and non members. . There are other financial grants and loans for their members. .
So what exactly are yhu defending? An African man simply gains satisfaction by stashing cash and not helping others - it's not their fault
When you talk of top ranked christian varsities in developed nation you talking about, Yonsei, ORU, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Pepperdine, Villanova, Loyola Marymount etc and they are incredibly expensive.

oga, expensive is relative. Average starting salary for a graduate in the US is 75000 dollars a year. Someone who earns that much won't see 10,000 dollar tuition fee as outrageous. Not to mention the availability of student loans that make things easy. So do you still feel that education is Soo expensive for those who live in the US? It costs them money agreed, but it is still within the range of what an average middle class worker can comfortably afford to spend on his kids without stealing.

Can u say the same about the fees in covenant University and co? Can a state civil servant on level 15 comfortably train even one child in covenant University? And u can barely call a level 15 officer middle class, he is rather upper class!!
Lol you must be joking right.
Who stopped anyone from taking student loans to attend Covenant?
Saying an average middle class can afford US university means you don't know what you are talking about. The student debt in the US is $1.5 trillion. Meaning most are taking loans they can't pay till they die.

Ask the white missionaries how they were able to afford free education and free living costs to the indigenous peoples. Church members who were better off paid the bills. In those times u didn't have all these tithes of a thing
Ask the white missionaries of today why none of them has any free university today. I think that is the logical comparison. All the Catholic universities I know in the US are severely expensive.

Too much of a fee, if I have such outrageous fee, I would rather find a better uiversity for my kids abroad to school.

And still yet, after spending such amount of money, they leave them to their fate to go and look for job and still bring the money back and enroll for their postgraduate studies.

I had an oportunity to be interviewed with a former colleague who finished in CU then for a job of 45k as a call centre agent.

We eventually got the job, though she's sound and intelligent, but 45k after spending such amount of money on school fees?

I won't dear do that for my kids, abeg abroad straight away.

Please nobody should quote me and say nonsense I am having heavy malaria
Find a university abroad but if they come back here they would still queue for 45,000 jobs as many foreign still grads do...

When you say something be very sure of what you are saying. This is a public domain bro good quality education is available in some part of Europe I mean you dont pay a dime. Although, tertiary education is really expensive in most part of the world but there are still free schools in some part of Europe.

I hope you are not offended for the correction.

grin grin grin grin
There is no free school anywhere in the world. When citizens don't pay for it the govt pays. Germany which is tuition free levy's heavy taxes on its citizens to cover education costs in these universities.....

The difference is that while a German can be jailed for not paying his taxes you can't be forced to paying church donations. You can simply walk away and attend another church. If the church had predicated its own activities on your income then the church schools can shut down simply because one member no longer pays tithe.

It is my business first because I'm a Nigerian and secondly because I'm a Christian with good knowledge of the word of God.....consequently, I can't understand how the Bible can justify a church building universities with or without members contributions and members/christians can't attent such higher institutions; I don't see how God can be happy with such arrangement. The common justification is that of "spreading gospel" but we know practically speaking, it's either not entirely true or the products are not significantly different from public institutions after all we have campus fellowships and churches in our public institutions too.

If you read my line of thought very well, you'll understand I just don't see why it's necessary for churches to go into building universities that won't have direct benefits to her members and Christians at large. As far as I'm concerned, there are so many other beneficial ways churches can help build the educational systems some of which I've highlighted above.
Finally, I want you to know that almost all public institutions in Nigeria are heavily subsidised so that it can be affordable to more nigerians. If govt can do that, churches are expected to do more with her universities. If the running cost won't allow them, then starting it all together seems to me as a wrong priority. Shalom!
Lol according to you Methodist starting Yale university is unnecessary because it is expensive. Harvard started by the church was a waste.

I don't have a problem contributing to what doesn't serve me or my family directly, so I would continue to contribute to churches even if they build schools that I wouldn't attend. If you have a problem with what the church is spending on then stop contributing.

Ask yourself how much would it cost for you to get a one room apartment in Lagos with all your utilities covered(electricity, waste disposal etc) and juxtapose that with fees people pay in private universities. I had a whole full room to myself in my final year in Covenant with electricity supplied, water, security, internet and cleaning services provided. How much would I get that in Lagos? And I got all that with 500,000 naira in addition to an education. That 500,000 is what would cost me to rent a one room apartment without electricity paid for in some parts of Lagos.

Living faith by itself paid $1 million to journal subscription alone in 2018 and another $1 million for data analytics for Covenant. So just know that the so called high school fees doesn't even cover half the cost.

Las las all of you go dey all right. I don't hv strength to argue

Is this how far the Nigerian youth has fallen as relates business conduct, ethics and even knowledge of the public service rules?
I thought you were inferring that Atiku stole customs money to start intels.
As regards public service rules I am quite informed about the stance of that regulation. If Atiku was found to have contravened that regulation then he should be made to pay the penalty. Of which I am sure the penalty wouldn't exceed a requirement to return earned salary during his customs days and probably a forfeiture of his retirement benefits from customs.

Anyone who has been to AUN can testify that when you see a Nigerian staff there, he is most likely a gateman, security guard or a gardener .

Do not pay attention to threads like this, it's coming from a brat
There are certain requirements to running American Universities anywhere, it really isn't about Atiku. The idea of American Universities is to provide exact American curriculum while creating an American culture. So he just has to recruit Americans.

His co traveler, Obj also built his University while they were in power. Ironically, while they were building their private universities . ASUU was on strike which lasted for 3 months in 1999/ 2000 while another strike lasted for 5 months in 2003
There is no president in Nigeria that has escaped ASUU strike nor would any ever escape as long as people keep paying less than $100/annum for school fees.

While Naija govt is really poor, they aren't magicians either. If Harvard which is wealthier than all Nigerian states by virtue of its endowment still charges $70,000/annum then how would you pay $50 dollars and want Harvard standard.

UK wants to fund free education for all, US wants to fund free education for all but the numbers aren't adding up in both societies' govt so the people pay the price by taking massive loans which some of them can't pay till they die.

So its a choice
Free but non functional universities OR Expensive education but functional universities. It's our choice...

What is strange about starting INTELS when he was a Customs officer? Do you think a person needs to be corrupt to start a company? Even unemployed people starts companies in their unemployment.

Many of the prominent buildings at AUN were even donated o. E.g Aisha Kande hostel, Pastor's library etc.

While I am not trying to say Atiku is free of corruption I would only appreciate an argument that is logical.

People should be sensible and stop attacking Atiku for building a University. What I know is Atiku being a believer in the private sector built an excellent university in Adamawa(not Lagos or even Abuja).

While I blame Atiku for building a US styled university in Adamawa which is so close to the boko haram insurgency, I am still amazed as to how he could attract wealthy members of the public to still bring their kids over to AUN despite the risks. For AUN to attract the son of the President of Uganda; Uganda a country which houses East Africa's best rated university(Makerere) shows Atiku is capable of making Nigeria look better than it really is and probably improving our FDI.

And Atiku was confident enough in what he built that his own son graduated from the same school. Our so called austere president took his own children and put them in UK universities far away from the chaos of a Nation he once ruled.

Go check NUC's records which I have seen, Covenant University and Atiku's AUN are the only two universities founded before 2010 that have never lost an accreditation since the day they were founded. This is the reason why NUC does not release rankings, because it wold embarrass the federal govt when extremely young universities like Elizade start outpacing the likes of UI and UNN.

AUN to a degree is reducing education tourism, bringing inflow of cash from foreign students and blazing the trail on how higher institutions should be run.

As much as i have huge love and respect for some men of God, i just can't place why they're involved in building tertiary schools when they can't make it affordable for their members and nigerians at large...it become worrisome to know that this institutions are build by "contributions/donations" from their members. I strongly believe there are viable options to hleping to build our educational systems that'll make it affordable to all instead of giving us the excuse of "cost of maintaining higher institution is expensive"

How about each church adopting a public institution, contribute toward her infrastructural and educational development while also monitoring seeing to the welfare of their members in such institution.
How about giving out scorlarship to brilliant members to study in our good public institution while also supporting the not so brilliant once. ...busary awards to less privileged members as well as monitoring their progress... e.t.c..
What is your business if we fund universities we can't attend? Did we come to protest in your house, or who appointed you spokesman for church members? You would do well to face your govt to provide all your socialist desires.

If Oyo and Osun, two oil and tax(compulsory) funded states can't successfully fund one university properly how do you expect churches backed by donations to build a university and then run it from donations..

Where in the world have you seen a proper university run exclusively on donations? Universities owned by wealthy governments in the US, UK still charge thousands of dollars from their own citizens much less foreigners. Just enjoy your '3 months on 3 months off' public universities and let churches be.

There's generally a lot of reinvention going on with most programmes in the sciences but I still see sciences serving for a long time. But with art and commercial courses it would really be a battle to save some programmes from imminent doom.

The 21st century is generally proving tough as the science and tech that is supposed to make life better is taking our jobs away.

Personally I worry myself, when I worked in Nigerian Bott Comp we had all sort of factory workers in the plant but when I saw how other coca cola franchises in the US were operating I was alarmed. They had phased out humans from much of their manufacturing processes and had acheived better performances. And of course wouldn't have to deal with casualties and massive workers wage...

The question is who needs to hire several bankers when an app could just do their job just fine. Who needs to hire a receptionist when robots are doing the jobs fine in Japan. Artificial intelligence now does newscasting in china. Heck even Airtel now has an AI based customer service system. So this problem is a general and longterm one.

I can't even advise you on what course to study because in the next few years more courses may fall off into irrelevance too.

Hoping you get satisfactory answers from others

He can't win his polling unit in Kwara for Atiku. But he can greatly influence how 400,000 worshippers of his ota church will vote. And when its a Muslim vs Muslim these little christian block votes can make huge differences.

And when it comes to oyedepo it trickles down to thousands of other Nigerian churches eg dunamis, salvation minis. Etc

The Adult part of Oyedepo's ota branch can effectively decide an Ogun state election if he makes them register in Ogun. RCCG 5-10 million redemption camp attendees can nearly make the difference in a national election.
