peterphd:This is 30,000 seat New creation church by Joseph Prince in Singapore - the richest nation on earth. And blacks constitute very small or minute part of that church - if any sef. why aren't we like Singapore?Ask your govt na. It was lee who transformed singapore not prince. The point is even Singapore with probably the best economy on earth still has a very devout population in christianity, islam etc. The country did not transform by churches building industries but a selection of leaders who are committed to transformation. And they did it.

Lastly the comment was contextual in response to accusations of Oyedepo receiving kickbacks from govt. As at when gej built twelve new federal universities at 12 billion naira(1 billlion naira/uni), Oyedepo built Landmark university at 9 billion naira and invested 21 billion naira over the next three years and he said after that "spending continues". Many people in omuaran built personal houses from the landmark project which currently educates just 3,000 students. The money he spent on landmark cannot be realistically realised back in 30 years. Not one offering was raised for landmark in church. Even Otedola doesn't have the number of staff oyedepo does yet we keep shouting "capital of poverty" everywhere when reference is made to church wealth. This year he(oyedepo) started two new universities at the same freaking time while still building a 500 billion naira city and then procuring a new private jet(after selling off old ones). And then earmarking thousands of acres of land for a private airstrip in ota. Does that look like someone that is broke or can be bribed. The money that would entice oyedepo must be a very significant govt loot. Yet as wealthy as he is(or his church is), he lives in a very modest house, rides simple vehicles and is very free to mingle with. I love the man tremendously.... |
They keep shouting world capital of poverty. Ignorant mofos. Winners is in 65 nations of the Earth. It has the largest single building church in Eastern and Central Africa. It has churches in several American cities, UAE, Qatar(it has in poor countries too) Infact Nigeria is just the admin base of the church. At last count the church has over 159 branches in Ghana. Therefore the church collects revenue in dollars, pounds, diram, naira, cfa, rands, cedi etc so i begin to wonder why a functionally educated person would correllate Winners wealth with Nigeria's poverty. Churches that are cross national are usually very wealthy.... No big deal |
Great news! |
So they were on strike, never knew. |
lilmax:Haba 182 out of 13,000 graduates! Infact UNN has a higher pass rate than OAU. |
Ok while it is ok to solicit for funds from members and well wishers alike, it is completely wrong to armtwist people to give such offerings. As Hagins said, in the matters of finance(in the church) there is a thin line between the permissible and the objectionable. Your role as a priest/pastor is to encourage people to give in line with sound scriptural backings and not mocking or denigrating a visitor for not making a pledge. I advise every pastor to read Kenneth E. Hagin's Midas Touch: A biblical perspective to financial prosperity |
Baawaa:Ok so let Nigeria not be delivered abi We would see who would suffer the consequences of a failed Nigerian state between you and oyedepo. |
Shikena:This here
|
Expectation card not Exception. |
Goke7:I agree the church should be regulated directly on matters relating to finances and sort. But a govt cannot stop a 'pastor' from feeding his members grass. A govt cannot sanction a 'pastor' who sleeps with members. A govt can't question or determine the legitimacy of a pastor who divorces his wife but remains a pastor. A govt can't determine the acceptable way of preaching tithing. This is why self regulation is important in line with agreed constitution. Of course PFN and CAN must be overhauled completely to be more effective and less political. |
modath:First i apologise for my earlier outburst. But please stick to the topic and stop making personal attacks... I have seen enough counter points to my opinion and i now agree with some of it. You can pass your message without trying to denigrate. But i still insist that if there is a chance of misinforming the public then news outlet should designate satirical post as they are. Take the Holy Spirit out of this conversation. I have seen many great pastors make mistakes even far higher. It is our responsibility to pray for these people and call them out or criticize as kindly as we can. Their members are tender fruits at different stages of spiritual growth. I caution myself and restrain my words because if i speak my displeasure many may not go to church again. However, what do we gain if in the name of attacking Adeboye or Oyedepo we push people away from the household of God. Then God may just punish all of us with equal measure. Selah. |
Goke7:Great point. |
modath:You are very uncouth. Reserve your prayer point for whichever man marries/married you. I'm sure you have experential knowledge in locking people's soul that's why you think mine was locked at canaanland. |
alezzy13:I kuku did not absolve Bishop oyedepo. But my point is if he could be misled then many could equally be. The nation should designate her sattire commentary under comedy section subsequently. |
Tehila07:Valid point. They should all stay away from politics. Whether credible news or not i think he should just do like Oyakhilomhe, Olukoya and avoid Nigerian politics completely. I think it is time the Pentecostal movement gets a structure. The govt should give PFN or CAN the powers for self regulation in line with whatever Christianity means to all of us and document it as a constitution. Watching a mentally disturbed 'pastor' slam members in church is very heart breaking and a mockery to this religion. Such kind of church ought to be closed immediately and members dispersed but CAN or PFN has no such powers. There is chaos in the church formation and it keeps me awake at night - everyone does as they please and make a mockery of the system. There is no accountability on church income, by now a reformed PFN or CAN should have forced her members to make annual disclosures on church income and expenditure. There ought to be regulations from CAN forcing bakare, osinbanjo and okotie and the likes to temporarily step aside before vying for office. What about regulations banning politicians from contributing to church projects Churches should also start having accountable leadership. I expect winners supreme council would ban further political commentaries by any of its leaders but i know that wouldn't happen as our pastors are too powerful than the structures meant to hold them accountable. |
Daviddson:You assume that i know Kanu started all this. But before this week i had deliberately skipped every single news regarding jubril of sudan. The headline has always been enough to put me off because i know it's conspiracy theory. The first article i ever read about this was the one Oyedepo cited so i was sort of confused too. And since i don't trust nor like Buhari i may be guilty of not to looking for loopholes in articles against him. The Nation's publication clearly fits the description of fake news. Questions on Holy spirit Regarding the inability to hear the Holy Spirit: Maybe the holy spirit didn't say anything because the bishop didn't ask. Or the Holy Spirit said something and the bishop did not pay attention. Asking why the Holy Spirit didn't tell Oyedepo is like asking why God didn't tell myles monroe that he would crash. Even when Oyedepo was going to have a plane incident. The Holy Spirit raised intercessor in Adeboye and some Landmark student who waged the battle on his behalf. So this topic on the Holy Spirit is not for this place

Earthbound:Who do you blame? A) The Nation Newspaper: The producer of the content which should be responsible for guiding its interpretation to a reasonable extent. B) Bishop Oyedepo: A consumer of the content who was misled. If Oyedepo a PhD holder in Human Resource Management from Uni of Honolulu can be misled then wonder how man SSCE holders, and 'semi-literate' folks that may be misled. Are we not at risk of misinforming a large part of the public in the nation in the name of sattire. NCC better address this before they do sattire with fulani herdsmen and half the nation has been slaughtered before they realise it's a joke. Even in a nation like france with better educated citizens, a satirical publication led to the death of many innocent people because a segment of the population did not see the joke others were seeing. If i were Oyedepo i would charge The Nation to court for misleading me and causing a dent on my reputation, especially if the publication was not designated sattire. If i buy paracetamol from a manufacturer that refused to give me a written manual on it's recommended usage on account that paracetamol is a common drug and everyone knows the dosage, then any injury i suffer from misuse should be liable to them. I AM NOT EXONORATING BISHOP AT ALL. HE HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO DO DUE DILIGENCE BEFORE COMING TO THE PUBLIC
|
Call it Satire or whatever you like, my first impression, reading Olatunji Oludare's piece was not of laughter or comedy. What i read was a supposed "well laid, investigative" reportage. Till now i do not see the sattire or sarcasm in that post and i would easily be misled by that article myself. The only dissonance that gave the post out for me was the supposedly unwarranted tirade against Nnamdi Kanu. But without that i could easily have attempted to 'dig' further. I understand now that the majority of folks immediately termed the article sattire based on the antecedents of the writer. However, we need to ask the impact of a credible news outlet like The Nation irresponsibly mixing sattire and real journalism together. Knowing fully well that the general public is fully aware that the Nation Newspaper is a credible journalistic outlet then it should be imperative to label or designate sattirical, sarcastic publications under the comedy section of the newspaper - whether online or offline. The fact here is this, a leading religious influencer in Bishop Oyedepo was misled by the carelessness of The Nation newspaper and the clarity he sought for from the presidency has professed doubt that may have cascaded into the 5,000 church network of the Winners Chapel ministeries in Nigeria. Citizens and church members in Ogbomoso, Umunede, Ede and other rural hinterlands without access to Twitter, Nairaland have now heard from their revered pastor that their president may be a Jubril from Sudan. Do we need this in a nation where distrust for the Federal Government is so rife that citizens would readily believe the worst from them? Worse even when such accusations are peddled by leading religious voices. I have in numerous times called for sober reflection from Nigeria's media houses and bloggers to ensure news dissemination is done with utmost respect. A news made by Vanguard, Linda Ikeji during the last election which cited Bishop Oyedepo claiming to open the gates of hell is another typical example of how poor journalism continue o divide us and threaten our peaceful existence. Till today, that news report is still being circulated and reechoed in social media circles despite the recall made by the various news outlet. We thank God there was no violence in reaction to that particular fake news, but make no mistake that particular fake news could have put the lives of many Christians in jeopardy. To the clergy, i humbly plead that our pastors, priests, bishops should cease from meddling in political issues. Let us imbibe the character of Pastor Adeboye who has been a father to all and a bridge builder who refuses to make political statements. Let the Nigerian people make their decisions and live with the consequences! You are Nigerians and entitled to your opinions on the political situation of the Country but in respect of Christ and the safety of Christians all over Nigeria please speak your opinions in the comfort of your rooms and not on the pulpit to avoid needless controversies.

Actually there's a cross somewhere around the place. Anyway Pentecostalism doesn't really believe that a cathedral is sacred. Reason why many of them even use cinema houses or events centers as worship places, something the anglicans, methodist and catholics wouldn't do. |
