An unassuming friend just collected 4.6m from UBA as interim dividend. He started investing only 3 years ago, during the COVID lockdowns. He came in with big money though.

always beautiful to see dividend growth. It totally makes the early sacrifice of heavy lifting worth it .Double whopper when the primary source of income is something that still brings in cashflow, you can decide to reduce workload / take pay cut for other pet project. Sit and Watch (I have no opinion on this): OANDO , Fidelity, Mbaker,MBENEFIT ,caverton,interbrew.
Replacement approach :
** review if you still want to be exposed to the paint business? I will Replace Berger with CAP (Better prospect growth and divy play) or replace with UACN (if you don't have stomach for conglomerate back and forth, stick with CAP)
** Multiverse : I will replace with Thor exploration that has Segilola in Osun state (if you have access to AIM uk or Canadian biourse for arbitrage play in the ). I will split holding this with Japaul for Mining PurePlay

**Mbaker: I will gladly replace this with FIDSON (This may be our Megamkt cap Pharmaceutical company in the forseable future for growth and divy )

** For insurance play: I will focus on Custodian and Lead or AXA.

**Banking Contrarian: My biased opinion will not be helpful in your holdings of FCMB, FIDELITY.There are multiple ways and layers to skin the financial institution cat.maybe if you give more info on what you are looking to acheive in the banking space, i may be more direct. I will defer to other guys in banking space.

Also look into the conglomerates in other space of naija economy if you have not to enjoy the rising tide in portfolio because they will more often than not benefit from that. Stay safe and blessed!!!

Some stocks we think are fundamentally sound might be very shaky in reality. Some of us had assumed that banks like Oceanic and the rest were fundamentally sound until the advent of SLS stress test in 2009. You know the rest of the story.

I was told there was an investor called Afolabi, that used to buy only 1,000 units of any stock that he was buying for the first time, just to use 1 leg to test how deep the water could be. Better safe, than sorry, you know.

So, if you buy only about 1,000 units, or very few units of a stock, it is named after the man as ''afolabi units".

+1 more like Afolabi Junior in my case, I test the waters with 100 unit like a stake in the line incase i have forgotten or mind game set in when allocating funds during periodical load up, I can recall notes written about such units for adding or otherwise.

As for audit committee members ideally, they are part of the in-house team that serve as the eyes and ears of the board for checks and balance in accounting to avoid sharp practices that can bring the house down. Another layer of protection which is mandatory are external auditing firm i.e kpmg, deloitte, PWC etc that most people skip past their notes in annual report ( I am guilty of that most times)

the benefit of an audit committee member usually isn't set in stone (i stand to be corrected), besides sitting allowance, under the table company benevolence is not uncommon (allegedly)

IV. little suggestions on stocks to keep eyes on viz: Follow the top 2-3 companies in the following sectors at all times as a long term investor: Food (Agriculture, consumer good ), Manufacturing (construction ,real estate), Energy ( oil/gas exploration, electricity), Please this are pointers for education purpose to run your numbers and study their annual reports, this by no means is exhaustive.

1.Food: BUA FOODS, DANGOTE Sugar/FOODS (currently in euphoric mode.),
1b Agro-allied: Flour Mills , OKOMU OIL
1c Consumer Goods: PZ (with delisting on horizon, may be listed or not so no point mentioning it)

2. Cement Manufacturing : Dangote, BUA, WAPCO

3. Construction: Jberger.
4.Real estate: UPDC vs UPDC REITS (Personal Preference is UPDC . not a recommendation) , Abbey buldings ( this is akin to penny stock. value in this company is gradually coming to light.It's a Mortgage financing play.This is solely on the team to deliver or this will just be story of potential ).

5. ENERGY (Oil & Gas): SEPLAT, TOTAL, CONOIL (prefer due to its exposure to Telcommunication sector as a major shareholder in Globacom)

5b Energy (Power Generation) : Transcorp and GEREGU.

6.Financial institution: Access, GT, Zenith (registrar is useless when it comes to documentation, maybe that changes in the near term), UCAP, Sterling is an honorable mention
7. Telcommunication: MTNN

you can start from page 5500 you will be amazed by how much info to guide and guard you with questions that may arise as you wade through the waters of NSEMPA

I am not a guru, just giving suggestions based on little experience.. As for platform to hold shares in Nigerian stock exchange, IMHO work with maybe 2 stockbroker to help you navigate the trading side and long term (This may come handy when you may need to get collatalised loans ,etc). If you are well disciplined, you can have all your stocks in one platform .

Reputable brokerage firm you can checkout include Stanbicibtc, unitedcapital, Morgancapital, Investmentone,etc (Just to name a few). I am not affiliated with anyone of the listed brokerage firms, I only have accounts with them. another thing to consider is to easy access to purchase moneymarket funds in situation you make a crazy bag from trading, consider brokerage firms that can offer one stop shop service you can easily purchase the moneymarket funds pending the time you enter the market for long term stocks or trade short term stocks.

As for Bamboo: the service makes sense (it all depends on what you are looking to acheive with them ), i use them as well.

Not received alert yet, last year dividend was in November, weird the notice for this year shows 11th august for payment date. will keep an eye out, to update if e show.

The NASD platform is not liberalized like the main NGX. Investors can't trade directly on the NASD platform you have to send your order to your stockbroker to be executed when there is availability of the stock. The NASD is not a very active platform so trade execution there is very slow compared to the main board........ It's even not all stockbroking firms that play NASD.

I totally hear you, the challenge is just trust factor with brokerage house that wouldn't screw you over by front running your position when they see large volume anticipated.

I am sure there's more, I am trying to get opinion/ review of people using their service to guage which one to use as a second firm to go with as backup.
