suggestion f0r 2024 : You may consider etsy as another funnel to potential clients abroad. study competition, may need to figure out ratio quantity : pricing (shipping requirement for effective delivery and necessary regulatory requirement) to gain more grounds. shipping 1kg wouldn't make economic sense for clients, but who know? maybe bulk purchase option should be available for those who shop in such quantity Good Luck with 2024. Rooting for your establishment to continually prosper!!!

Tantalizers is dead as far as I am concerned, no value here and it would be difficult to get any.The numbers are not interesting in any way, heavy in debt, stiff competition from chicken Republic, kilimanjaro and other new brands and they are not receptive towards innovation.Their pricing is also not competitive and their restaurant outlets are dwindling. Some outlets have the top as religious houses. No value trap for any investor here except jijoists which is not also bad if you know when to jump in and out grin grin.
Tantaliser is an interesting one , Seems the management Mr & Mrs. Ayeni and their board are bereft of ideas at this point ( QSR value = garbage in, garbage out. ) a handful of Franchises (not hearsay, they 're acquaintance, show their books as profitable. You begin to wonder why there is no standarardisation across the chain?
Definitely need a turn around approach. If you are given the task/ opportunity to turn the company around, what will be your suggestions? (Will be interesting to see other peeps ideas)

1. Re-evaluate the menu and pricing structure (if it means partnering with bright local chefs to work on Nigeria Local dish, Mexican and oriental cuisine) - Quality, cost. Strongly believe create the environ, Nigerians will spend their last cash to have quality time and meal.

I went over the FBN report again and I noticed the highlighted entry. I can only wonder what those "financial instruments" are ??
That is a massive figure especially in Q4 2023. (If we remove that entry FBN will see red.) grin
Sterling and FCMB didn't have such in their reports...
The answer is right in your highlight. Follow the note number 10 & 19 down the page (the number is a guide on where to find the item down the line as you read though the report ). if confused , check page 16 for definition and 33 for what instrument the FVTPL comprised of in the report. in this case, mostly treasury bills, bonds, etc. the investment securities not clearly stated.

I didn't address sterling in your comment because the statement isn't clear; in general, every business swing between categorising assets as FVOCI (other comprehensive income) vs FVTPL (profit /loss) based on the criteria of meeting cashflow test (oversimplification of the whole thing).

Nigerian CEO dey learn work when compared with American CEO as per greed. How can the CEO of a company that has not paid dividends for years consider a pay package of about $56 billion
Disclaimer: biased due to exposire to TSLA . statement below isn't abrasive.

I must say i'm not a fan of Elon musk (capable but overhyped), if the dumb ass had done the dealings transparently without twist arming directors he deserves every stock compensation he got considering it's milestone RSU.

That said, this statement /opinion that 56 bil package is greed is naive and disingenious to say the least, he delivered on all parameters required in the milestones , the share holders are better for it in terms of capital appreciation. Please do better, you are held in reasonable regards to be dishing out things like this.Shalom!

This is going to be a long post. You can refer to it all through today and tomorrow ..I will keep modifying incase i miss something.

Suggestions to check out on studying valuation: Either Passive or active, Treat this like a business. set a goal e.g Board membership of company you are invested in, 100million unit holding per company starts with valuation of 1 company , this is acheivable.

I.The challenge you will run into is that they are mostly north american based content. Valuation of companies wether in india, USA japan or nigeria hold same principles to greater extent, difference is in local market interaction which has to be considered alongside valuation metrics.

II. everyone in the "Value investing" space around the world recycle / regurg/ refine Ben Graham (morphed into buffet, munger), franklin templeton's approach. Search youtube for the following finance content creator to understand valuation of companies (They are mostly US based)

III. Youtube is your friend (cheaper, it's a function of finding a finance content that is easy to understand)

a. New money How to Calculate the Intrinsic Value of a Stock in 2023 (Full Example)
b. Peter lynch - would not get much from youtube get his book/ audiobook - I think there is an hour long content . good for understanding approach to see companies
c. Meetkevin youtube channel- To get a good gist of macroeconomic news from a millenials perspective especially US federal reserve moves on interest rates and other news. he is your ELI5 (he explains like you are 5) guy. you just have to go past his advertisement ,it grows on you over time. This is a good tool to have knowing that when the fed reserve sneeze all other central bankers catch a cold.

IV. *** OGG here on nairaland seem to dish out valuable information. You can check out his service to add to your repository of knowledge as you study to get better at valuation. (Disclaimer: I am not a client of his,not used his service either but watching his content over the years, you may check it out to see if it's of value to you or not)
*** Also there's a nairaland discord channel (mostly Tech analysis focused)

V. INVESTOPEDIA is your friend and free. When evaluating annual reports and terminology doesn't make sense, this serve as your financial dictionary when reviewing annual reports.

VI. Blogs / Webpages / financial news I use daily / monthly:-

*** (subscription based if cost isn't an issue. use the free trial first if you are an individual to see if the value you get commiserate with what you want). I use thise services to get a broad idea of all companies i am exposed to before studying annual reports a) gurufocus or b) Market screener or c) Valueline (i don't have an account for this)

*** Annual report / shareholder of berkshire from 60 till 2023 (This is like history book on what buffet and his company was thinking) - You learn history and how to navigate certain market condition. I see this as 3rd edition of intelligent investor grin grin. I revisit when i am free to learn a thing or two.

*** Howard Marks blog - good read for broad concept / insight to the economy. I am aware he's also north america focused. With time studying this folks you start to see similarities but you apply your knowledge of local market conditions to your advantage.

*** Monish Pabrai - Arguably the next in line to charlie munger in terms of approach to investment in North america and emerging market (Turkey to be exact). Same thing, his webinars are broad concepts.

*** Reddit - Value investing subreddit is your friend. Don't get carried away by wallstreetbet subreddit (Not as fun as it was back in 2018)

***Cathie woods ITK (in the know) - This is a monthly review of moetary, fiscal policy and market conditions ( she doesn't teach you valuation like aswath, but you get insight on what wallstreet is not focusing at the moment). She like a major yet underground artist or restaurant you know is bussing but peeps still hate on them type deal for finance.

*** Earn your leisure - mondays and tuesdays .

**Westudy billionaires and The investors Podcast- Gems full everywhere. See it as extracurricular for your financial subconscious. Informatio here build your capacity when analysing companies based on approach successful peeople have used in the past. Pace yourself, it will make sense at some point during the journey of valuation.

Nigerian content

*** Dr AWO podcast - good nigerian local content. @DRAWO put the link of your podcast in your signature so people can check it out. BTW, please ensure to include more channel/avenue for people to check it out. (no be everybody dey use spotify, apple podcast, etc)

*** subscribe to all this financial house newsletter (will suggest create an email account for all financial tid-bits so you can review daily or weekly without missing things. this will reduce overwhelming unread mails if you mix financial things with your regular work life ) for their insight, gives you leverage to be contrarian if you want. e.g coronation, cardinalstone, afriinvest, investone, etc

**** Nairametrics ( extension of NSEMPA ... no be today we know sey even $OTE dey read NSEMPA . madam obi ezekwesili used to check nairaland back in the day but she stopped for some reason.)

VII. If you really want to get super crazy with it Aswath Damodoran ( NYC finance prof) has free course every year on valuation. it's like a semester worth. don't get lost in the sauce. Pace yourself, it will make sense.

VIII. this is too long at this point,if you have any question in particular not addressed , ask.

They can. However, my challenge is looking at their cash position of less than N1bn at YE, can they afford to pay dividend of about N5b without borrowing or shifting the payment date later in the year when they would have generated good cash from operations. They made some significant/strategic cash investments in 2023. Impressive results by the way.
That's one of the use of Retained Earnings. The company can afford it. N2 dividend seem highly probabie vs 2.50. heck , they may splurge considering Capital expenditure seem low this period. Who knows?

What do you think about ETranzact and FIDSON? Buy, Hold, Sell off, or Avoid?
Disclaimer: I hold positions in the listed stock.Hence, my bias and strategy be taken with MUDU of salt. Here Long term (at least 5yrs) except radical trajectory change occurs. Nothing has changed fundamentally with the company to suggest selling (of course everyone is different based on personal issues that may arise to warrant liquidation to attend to other issues or rebalancing )

Considering My strategy is no terminal price (aka take profit area) there's a long runway for both company.Hence,I dollar/naira/ pound cost average per month or quarterly , depends on my flow of cash.

FIDSON - BUY. In biotech space, Fidson will be considered a toddler that has more room for exponential growth ( dividend and capital appreciation) in waves just like it's birth nation Nigeria. Increased population begets increase in health needs for the growing young and old population. Hence, increase in revenue through life saving biologics .

The only way this company will fail is a combination of the following viz: **mismanagement /misappropriation of Research & Development ** ill advised synergy with other biotech companies home and abroad (brand , generic, local manufacturing partnership, etc. So far they are doing well i.e GSK partnership few years back and a chinese pharma recently. But more needs to be done to address )

Etranzact - BUY. No brainer with projection of earnings in FY 2024 + years ahead (fingers crossed!! ). This is pretty much a tollgate financial institution that grow as the nigerian economy grows.

The way e be, I won't be surprised if it gets to 120,000 by the end of the year. Because the bull never circulate, dey never start writing story books about the stock market, Nollywood never do movie about NGX, content creators never begin use NGX do skit, we never start giving testimonies in churches concerning the goodness of the stock market, Men of God never start preaching about the NGX, dem never begin share stock picks in the barbing and hair dressing salon, dem never begin analyze stock for bars and beer parlours
At this rate back to ostrich mode- all one can do is hunker down, still exposed in the markt, the ebb and flow in tide of perception (bull and bear) is a friend to cost averaging of listed companies . I guess the next puzzle is to see what headmaster forward guidance on rate cuts during his first MPC meeting in february would be . Shouldn't be far off from the unanimous rate cuts song across G20 market.

Hogwarthtrades:
depends on how the flexible the contract arrangement is. The surplus from sales due to increased price may go into completing payment of loans faster.

THis is an excerpt from the FAQ by the communications officer of NNPCL. :-

"You make it sound as if it so easy but what happens when sales proceeds are much higher than the repayment amount?

If oil prices spike significantly, the future value of oil sale could become much higher than the forward-sale financing. In this case, the company (seller) simply repays the original loan amount plus interest as agreed, even if sales proceeds are higher. Any excess revenues are paid to the issuer (seller). For example, if a $100 million forward sale financing for 1 million barrels of exports at $100/barrel, but oil prices jump to $150/barrel, those 1 million barrels would now fetch $150 million. The financiers will receive the $100 million+ interest and the excess $50 million will flow back to the seller."

aradel energy is a subsidiary of aradel holding on NASD. further details in coming weeks of the 5 way split of 30% of spdc should give an idea if Aradel daily oil exploration surpasses seplat or not after completion of this deal.
