faceland:
What we paid for school fees in 10 years is just a single loan that a politician move with a signature.
Even this inflation is partly common Nigerians paying for past government loot.
Anyone that earned in naira then convert it to dollars in order to pay a useless school fees, please just leave them alone. They earn the right to pay for the useless school fees "e no eazi". No one is stopping you from paying your school fees but buying some government rate means a farmer who can’t afford to pay $10000 in school fees is subsidizing your fees ,that’s not fair. Source your $ Aboki government should sell her own $ on the black market and use the money to do what government does. Roads, security, safety administration and other necessary things subsidizing the rich is not part of it . Even in western world college education is optional, high school diploma is the basics of education, whoever wants the luxuries of higher education in the west should pay full money it. Only happens in Nigeria, good thing they are beginning to figure it out. Any subsidy that an average Nigerian can’t benefit from like ; fuel , gas , electricity and food is not a subsidy but appeasement of the rich. Again I’m happy they are looking into this if not $ will kill naira in no distant time. 1 Like |

Now we are talking. Target the haj and Jerusalem globetrotters too . The country should not be paying for individual luxuries.
School fees and medical bill payers should source their $ elsewhere, all of them. 1 Like 1 Share |

I think the whole Binance thingy is working. I'm a hater of Tinubu, doesn't mean I don't want Nigeria to progress. I’m like you, as much as I don’t like his whole mannerisms , I want Nigeria to succeed, but binance is not the problem wait until this policy digest you will see $ rise again. The problem is in his policies, truth be told it’s hard but if he should take the bold steps then we will start seeing changes. Example the government has no business subsidizing haj and Jerusalem pilgrims by selling $ at a reduced rate to them. Can he stop that ? No, so $ will keep rising. 1 Like |

SoNature: Herbert Wigwe was a funny man. He wanted those who would attend the so-called university to pay in USD. After paying all that money to attend a university in Nigeria, won't they end up joining the rest of us in the labour market? ![undecided](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/undecided.png)
Nigerians need to understand that you cannot give what you don't have. Universities in the US, UK and Canada charge a lot of money in tuition and their people borrow money to attend those universities for one reason - their governments have invested so much in their societies to have profitable ventures that will absorb those graduates. That way, they pay off their student loans in few years. This is not the case of Nigeria. Yes because he was used to selling CBN $ at black market rate. So for him it’s $ or nothing. 3 Likes |

ckc: which one is people and investments? I don't want all those sweet economic jargons. Describe any benefit the way a layman will understand it. The one benefit is that all these bank MD’s will stop being stupidly rich by round tripping on our common wealth, if well implemented it can reduce a lot of corruption. I have a feeling that the economic hardship is just a way for the economy to rebase. And again, corruption will fight back for a while. Mind you I’m not a fan of Tinubu, but I’m optimistic. 1 Like |
Nairaland / General / Re: What Mama Told Me About Aguiyi Ironsi Counter Coup Of 1966 And Ojukwu's Coup by hosemujica: 10:33pm On Feb 13 |
Eriokanmi: I always wonder why yorubas and igbos are always on each other's nerves on social media. It's uncalled for. There's a known enemy to fight instead of attacking one another. During my recent visit to grandma, the nonagenarian, who would soon clock 90 narrated the circumstances surrounding the Aguiyi Ironsi and ojukwu led coup which took the lives of some northern politicians at that time.
Igbos and yorubas had long relations in the south, which even predated the colonial era. Aguiyi's chief of staff was a yorubaman, Babafemi Ogundipe. Mama was a senior nurse in that era, one of the early indigenous and first generation and highly respected nurses in that era. First miss Nigeria was her colleague in the nursing profession. The woman is in her early 90s now...Mrs Oyelude.
When igbos and yorubas are supposed to be united to achieve a common goal, they're busy fighting themselves. She laughed hysterically, speaking in ekiti dialect...han gbon pęę pęę..meaning they're not wise at all. They can attack each other but they forgot about those who came to the south to avenge their elders who were killed over nepotism and marginalisation of the South which ironsi and ojukwu, Ademoyega, etc had foreseen and eanted ti correct. All those who came to lalupon to kill aguiyi ironsi, in which fajuyi too lost his life later became nigerian military heads of state, except captain TY Danjuma. Murtala muhamed, Buhari, IBB, Gowon and abacha who were all junior and non commission officers from the north later became heads of state while the south kept serving as slaves under them.
She said further that, people were in a hurry to attack ojukwu but refused to ask questions why an igbo-born military leader spared Pa Awo's life while all his colleagues from across the country were executed. She blamed southerners for allowing their leaders to keep gaining relevance by instigating hates against each other, just to achieve their selfish political gains and remain perpetual slaves to the north. She asked the below questions which I couldn't answer logically....
Why are the north so united against the south, irrespective of religous and ethic differences and south are always divided against itself? She said the day yorubas and igbo form a United force is when they'd begin achieving meaningful progress as a region and tribe because those across the Niger can't be trusted and they always deliberately want to keep us divided and that's the weapon they keep using to hold sway. She said she was among those who first criticised tinubu for supporting buhari because she knew they would always dribble him to a corner when it gets to his turn because they are betrayals and can never be trusted...and she was right when Ahmed Lawan was being presented instead of the man who sponsored Buhari's electioneering campaigns. But amazingly, he outsmarted all of them otherwise, power would have remained in the north.
In conclusion, she made a comment which I didn't like...that even though tinubu isn't the best at this moment, people should see his being president as a means of breaking the jinx of leadership among Southern politicians because he will rewrite history and expose a lot of dirty stuffs as she put it. I'm not a fan of tinubu and I'd never be. That's why I won't take sides with mama on this. He's rewriting history already by unleashing hardship on the common man. On a lighter note, ekiti is such a serene state. I visited Ikogosi, where cold and warm spring met, nice place The only hope this country has, is rested on people like you who seek knowledge before they conclude on topics of importance. Not the rest tribalist idiots who just open their mouth waaaaaa! And spill rubbish. |

God1000: there are rules of engagement in military operations that should not be violated especially international humanitarian law and the protection of women and children humanitarian law
You don't exterminate the entire population because of few elements
A professional army should conduct itself well You don’t take women and children hostage and expect to be treated with humanitarian law in mind . Moreover only the United States has the financial capacity to fight surgical warfare( rooting out bad eggs hiding amongst innocent populace). Any other country that tries that will go bankrupt. So I support mowing down anything on Israel’s way to retaliate. If any country can’t stand the heat let them get out the the kitchen. |

Romance / Re: My Fiancee Tested AA For Genotype When Young, Now She's Testing AS by hosemujica: 8:58am On Jan 21 |
ProtonX: OP, Sorry to hear about your predicament. There were several genotype testing errors years ago in Nigeria. I for one was tested AA for my admission into uni. AA for NYSC. This was in the late 90s and early 2000s. I ended up being AS when my GP tested my genotype. I didn't believe but I had two separate tests done in Lekki and Jabi the following year and I was still AS. At the time I had already married my wife who I knew was AS from the start so you can imagine the situation we were in.
It is not a death sentence if you have the means. We employed the services of a Geneticist and we were given about 4 options. We eventually chose pre genetic testing (IVF) and we have a set of twins and a 3rd child. And they are all AA.
If you don't have the means, unfortunately, you don't want to gamble with the lives of your future children and family. It is a painful journey bringing an SS or SC child into the world. I have met a couple of people who were lucky because of inaccurate genotype results. They have no SS kids. But the decisions are yours to make. Hello I wanted to ask, did you do procedure in this country and if yes what facility did you use ? And did you opt for preimplantation genetic diagnosis or amniocentesis? |
