Webmasters / Re: Can Google+ Compete With Facebook by IBEXY(m): 12:13pm On Jun 30, 2011
No doubt, google's heavy traffic will help with publicity but there is no guarantee they will pose a risk to facebook. Myspace could not. And mind you, this is not the first time Google is trying the social network business. Google Buzz failed.

Again ask yourself, is there really a need to upload my details one more place apart from facebook? I think you will find this feeling echoed accross the net.

Is there any new thing Google+ has that facebook is not already offering? Is it really necessary re-inventing the wheel?

Google should have stepped into the game long long ago instead of waiting till now to play catchup.

Romance / Re: Mystery: Great Men Fall-Outs. Is It So Hard To Run? by IBEXY(m): 12:25pm On Jun 24, 2011
I looked at the so called list of failed great men as posted and am like, I cant see any "great" man in the true sense of "great" in this list.

What makes Strauss-Kahn great? I hardly knew this individual until he was caught under the skirts of a hotel bar maid. He could have been doing it all along but refused to pay this time? How dare you include him in the list?

What is great about Arnie, the terminator baring his bum in the films? Dont get me wrong, I love those terminator movies. But how would I explain to a visiting alien that our great man is this fellow who starts a movie by baring his buttocks and then vows "I'll be back"-- for what? To show us more of his crack?

With all respect for Mike Tyson and Terminator etc as posted, these men have only achieved "personal" goals that brought them to the forefront and lined their personal pockets with cash.

My idea of "great" would have been men who accomplished selfless feats that has brought freedom and benefit to other people in one form or the other. Talk about people who gave up their lives in the fight for freedom, scientist who found the cure for diseases etc.

I agree some of them may have had immoral tendencies too but their contributions to makind far outweighs any short coming that may have existed in their lives. What has Iron Mike contributed to mankind? He even chewed off a bit of it from Holyfield's ear.

Tiger Woods? Ah that one gave us a different image in the tabloids and was a real devouring tiger to the babes away from the camera. Does that make him great? I agree he achieved loads of personal goals in his sporting career though.

Dont take this post too serious. If you crack a smile or LOL then its achieved it aim.

Programming / Re: Why Is Programming Difficult? by IBEXY(m): 11:38am On Jun 24, 2011
The only sort of programming you can learn in a week is "lightweight" scripting tools like VBScript. You can also learn the basics of SQl querying in a few days (provided you've been exposed the database mgt systems before). Lets not forget you need loads of theory stuff if you have never written or known any language.

All that said, what makes a programmer is the amount of "debugging", "failed projects", "trial and errors" you've had. In a lay man's language: the years of experience you've put in.

You only learn by doing. If you've never been held captive by a misplaced dot in your code for hours, you will never experience the full beauty of coding.

Search for "w3schools" on google. Might get you on your way.

Religion / Re: Nigeria's Pastors 'As Rich As Oil Barons' by IBEXY(m): 1:06pm On Jun 15, 2011
Dont forget to pay your tithes on sunday and , wait o! Offering is different from tithe. Offering will be at least 5 times on each of the 4 sunday services.

You have to hold your envelope high on each occasion to earn the blessing of the lord. This is not to make the brother without an envelope embarrased but to proove to the pastor that you are an active member of the congregation.

Remember! Approach ye not the altar with anything less than one thousand naira. Your money will be doubled by next week. Now you know why you should donate more. Every amount gets doubled or even trippled depending on how wide you flash that fake smile.

If you are poor, you need salvation in your life. How dare you keep coming to church when you cannot afford 2 square meals a day? Look here, say it even if you dont have it. Claim you are rich even if you are jobless. Better still, release that ten naira you've been carrying around in your pocket for the last one week into the offering basket. It will be replaced with one thousand naira by sunday.

I want all the oil company execs in the front seat. Sit behind if you are a cleaner.

and much more

COBOL may be one of the oldest languages out there but is still very much in use. Companies are out there looking and paying fat salaries to COBOl specialists. Do a simple Google search and see for yourself.

As for Fortran and BASIC, apart from academic reasons, those languages should be ditched.

Family / Re: When Is The Right Time To Get Married? by IBEXY(m): 9:23am On Dec 22, 2010
1. Try and do it before 40yrs.

2. Ensure you have bought all the trousers and shirts you need for the next 10yrs because baby making/rearing can be pretty hard on the pocket.

3. Forget you not that she will need lots of fake hair attachment and nails. They are expensive.

4. Realise it aint all about "I love you more than my mother" after the first 5yrs. Its also about how financially capable you are, how much endurance you can
muster and how thick your skin is to endure a barage of nagging (if you marry trhe wrong person).

5. Try and get married only when you can afford it - unless you really really have to (for example you are above 40yrs and your mom keeps kicking you for a grand child or you have become a laughing stock in the community or people have started wondering about your sexuality)

6. Forget the community beauty queen because you might end up fighting to keep her all you life (which may become shorter as a result)

You have been warned!

namdo:

we are experiencing some problems, the nation has not failed yet. How many years did it take some western states to stand as a progressive nation?
angry

The argument was interesting till I read this. You can talk of "how long" when there is progress. In our case, its like "how long" till total collapse. Are we progressing or retrogressing? In the later, the faster it goes the better. A fast death is far better than one prolonged period of suffering and gradual decay!

You used "progressive nation" in your response. Good. Would you say Nigeria has really progressed in the last 30yrs? All the good roads built by the then progressives in the 70s and 80s have been left to decay.

Mind you, denial is not patriotism. That you refuse to critcise evil or that you accomodated it all your life makes you an accomplice and not a patriotic Nigerian.

Many people think suffering and smiling in silence qualifies them to be the real deal Nigerians. Bah! You are excatly what the politicians love. The silly ones who cant talk and have refused to understand their rights to freedom of speech. Freedom from government imposed suffering and a right to live above $1 a day because your country can afford it.

invisible!:

Abroad everything is measured by the colour of your skin. Rich black people are still boxed into a corner and cannot flex their muscle as they want.
So What angry
I lived and worked in the Niger delta area (dont want to mention names) around 6 yrs ago before I came to UK. The locals treated us like second class citizens simply because we were from another part of Nigeria. The tribalism was too much. Some of us employed as well were being threatened daily. I still remember one or two people who were beaten up and ordered out of the community simply because a local guy wanted their job. This is real first hand experience. So where is the difference? Tribalism and favouritism at home or racism abroad?

Wherever you find people want your skills, provide it there. Be confident no matter any form of intimidation.

Right now in the UK, unless you dont know the law or you are "illegal", you can challenge any form of racism or bullying at the work place and even get paid compensation. All those racists do it in the closet these days.

Like I said, unless you dont know your right or you lack self confidence to face up to a bully, its best you go back to Africa.
Travel / Re: Do You Ever Think Of Moving Back To Nigeria by IBEXY(m): 12:25pm On Dec 19, 2010
I sense an undertone of inferiority complex in some of the responses here. Some people think they should scamper back to Africa simply because of the "hateful" stare of an oyibo man. Rubbish. What of all those oyibos in Nigeria making all that money? If you are scared of oyibo, go home. If you loose your liver in the presence of an oyibo, overseas is not for you.

If you dont have legal status abroad, of course your life will be a nightmare. Its probably better you go home. But if you have papers permitting you to work for a living, then its as good as staying in Nigeria. Are we not aware of tribalism in employment and other freely available opportunities in Nigeria? People should be brave and face up to challenges before coming here to ask as all to commit group HaraKiri.

Mr eewule, Nobody wants to stay in this subzero temperature for ever. We all love home.

Denial is not patriotism. You are merely deceiving yourself. Its a bit desperate, cheap and patronising to justify your patriotism by latching on to anyone who dares say the truth about conditions back home. If you think patriotism is leaving yankee with 2m and no previous laid down plans then you are the worst enemy this poster can ever have.

What on earth has being proud of your country got to do with a humble advice to look before you leap like I told him?

A large percentage of Nigerians abroad are economic immigrants. A lot came here to escape the harsh realities of life over there. Man must do what he can to keep himself and family alive.

A large number of those too who drum on about "sell outs" would jump on the next flight to yankee if they can. Who is deceiving who?
Music/Radio / Re: Hiphop "beefs" Good Or Bad? by IBEXY(m): 11:40am On Dec 05, 2010
ElRazur:

Don't get me wrong, I was a former fan of beef from the days of Grand Master Flash using subtle diss to aim shots at rival etc down to Tupac and Biggie which eventually turned ugly in real life more or less. I think the turning point for me was when I heard Tupac died and beef wasn't just something I wanted to be a part of any more.
First of all I would like to differ on this one. Contrary to what was manufactured for the general public to believe, 2pac was not murdered by Biggie and the East coast because of the preceding verbal wrangling they had. Its widely believed (and I believe it too) that Suge Knight and Deathrow records know about what happened to 2pac. Its believed they also master minded the demise of Biggie to make it look like the west coast retaliated. The hit on 2pac was carried out by corrupt LAPD cops on Deathrow's payroll. Think about it. He was shot down in broad day light. On a very busy night (Mike Tyson was fighting). Of course there was massive police presence that night as well. Till date, nothing came of it. Enough said.

On you issue of rap beefs. Dont be deceived. Most of the supposed beefs are fake and engineered to get attention and subsequently massive sales. Refer back to the west/east cost era. Everyone waited for the next obnoxious rhymes coming from either of the main actors. Who gained? The record companies.

Its a known fact artistes would deliberately indulge in the outrageous to get attention. Not only through public verbal clashes but via shameful acts like having sex in public or rolling around in vomit at a club etc. Wait a few days later and with the newspaper front pages still hot with their last misdemeanors, they drop an album. Of course it would sell a lot because he just got massive publicity the other day.

In show business, its common to act like you absolutely adore something when in actual fact you cant stand it. Typical example are artistes who suddenly claim they are gay or lesbian. This dude always had a girlfriend until the record company threatened to drop him unless the public show some interest.

There will be mixed reactions. Some will want to kaput him. Others will see it as an opportunity to show everyone how "holier than thou" they are or how far away they have fallen from the tree of barbarism. All in all, its massive publicity and publicity translates to cash.

Another is to continuously flaunt your wealth in such a way as to make people absolutely mad. Dont be surprised they still play your songs just to hear and swear at the latest trash you released (Soulja Boy)

Some even divorced their wives pretending to be the victim of the relationship just to get attention and sympathy. Its all a game.
Travel / Re: Do You Ever Think Of Moving Back To Nigeria by IBEXY(m): 10:52pm On Dec 04, 2010
Lot many people think staying in yankee means servitude to oyibo. Ignoramus! Are you a master of yourself in naija? Living in a country where illiterates in power deny you your most basic human rights. Are you not slaves to them as well? Are you not paying taxes to fund their rich property portfolios abroad and servicing a lavish lifestyle for them and their families? Which is worse. Serving oyibo and getting paid properly for it plus a great life into the bargain OR serving some clueless politicians and being denied life itself into the bargain?

Like I said before, moving back finally to naija is not an easy task. Look properly before you leap. Go there many times. Check and test things out. Go with enough cash - not 2m. Put stuff on ground first like - accommodation, mobility etc. Dont listen to jingoistic remarks here. There are other ways to show your patriotism for naija apart from denying the stark pathetic realities there.

buzugee:

people like you dont want to return to nigeria for the wrong reasons. the reasons you have pointed out are extremely trifling. it annoys me when people mention trifling reasons as reasons to stay abroad. light can be rectified in many ways by solar panels, inverters, gens. mosquito ? net and mosquito repellant creams. now if you said you are not returning because you dont have the kind of money or educational requirements or connections it will take to survive in nigeria ? then i will give you a pat on the back and say bruh ? i feel your pain and thats a solid reason not to go back. but to start mentioning bad roads, light, water etc etc. thats just nonsense. do you agree with me ibexy ?  grin
My brother there is no shame is making a choice that leads to survival. Your heading to naija despite all lack of amenities is brave and commendable but do not for once construe that to be patriotism. Why would I leave the light and head for darkness even if its home? Thats plain stupidity. Your heading to naija to suffer as well will not change the corrupt kleptocracy going on there. So dont preach about us all staying away and complaining. Why would I suffer myself and my family because a corrupt politician wants to enrich himself?

My brother to adjust to that life of denial after tasting the real thing is a choice I have reserved for my retirement days. I got tired of suffering and smiling before God made a way for me in Britico. Do you think I have'nt had enough mosquito bites before coming here?

Anyone thinkling of going back there should properly equip himself. Buy enough ear plugs as well because all your neighbors have noisy gen sets to keep you awake at night - as if the mosquitos were not doing a good job already. Its the accepted norm over there. Govt has failed so we keep patching up here and there.

No NEPA - get a noisy gen
Mosquito - get repellant and nets
Bad roads - dont even voice it. you are a traitor that hates your country
Bribery and corruption nko - shut up. this one na chop I chop economy

There's nothing about color here with Eminem. Even on this thread here in NL. He has already got the highest vote. Go through this thread and see for yourself. Check the votes at the top of the thread. He is leading by far.

I hate people dragging everything into racial differences. Check the song everyone is talking about here "No Love". He did it with a black rapper in a black run studio (going by the video) Eminem was found and nurtured by Dr Dre (a real black OG). What the f$%k is all this about white supremacy when his lyrics and beats clearly puts him ahead. Did you listen to the RECOVERY album before coming here to spew genetic differences. Nonsense!
Travel / Re: Do You Ever Think Of Moving Back To Nigeria by IBEXY(m): 7:20pm On Dec 03, 2010
Unless you are facing deportation, 2m (or £8k) is not the kind of money you retire to naija with. I dont know the poster's situation but that amount will not do much for anyone. My advice would be to keep slugging it till you have around 5 times of that.

All that apart, do you have your own accommodation? a car to runs around? have you researched what biz to invest your cash in? When did you go home last? If it was up to 5yrs ago, be careful. Things have changed a lot.

I intend going home finally one day but I will travel many times and test the ground properly before. There is no problem in making UK my main base and visiting home once in a while. After all even in Nigeria, am not going to live in my village. I would still reside in Lagos, PH or other cities. What is wrong in earning my living abroad?

Naija is not a place you just return back to especially if you have stayed out for a long time. When you get used to uninterrupted power supply, no mosquito, security etc, its hard adjusting to the opposite. Its a matter much more serious than asserting "Home is Home" or "Home is better than anywhere else". Its about your life and survival. You either throw your life and comfort away to please people or do what is good for you. You either doggedly face issues and surmount them for a better future or chicken out.

There's something about the song: No Love. I thinks its the violin sound in the background. Its gives it a sad theme and then the rap keeps rising and rising as the crescendo takes you right out of your chair up to the roof. The build up is magnificent and leaves you with a mixed feeling of awe, sadness, anger and respect. This is great lyrics wrapped in thumping body vibrating beats and delivered by 2 of the best rappers in the game.
