I noticed most of my phones in this budget range last 3 years before becoming slightly slow, not that there is much problem, then I change them.

If I'm using Redmi at £120 for 3 years with no issues, that's £40 per year depreciation

If I'm using Samsung S24 for 5 years with no issues, that's £100 per year depreciation

The Redmi beats the Samsung on the Maths. Not really a techie guy that will need all the extra features. By the time you put screen protector and protective case, I can't tell one phone from another

Why not get the Nothing Phone 4a pro, it has a clean user interface and the nothing OS is very smooth too. If you want to stay Redmi then get the Redmi note 15 pro plus 5G but ensure you buy the Global Version and not Global ROM(Chinese Version).

@ibime I and my business partner have/had Samsung phones. Both our phones developed faults at periods when we could needed urgent backups and could not shell out 500 to 900k. We bought xiaomi.

The ui is not as smooth as that of Samsung and it has a tendency to aggressively push ads and wallpaper themes at you.

It's an issue for me, but my pikins who I got xiaomi phones for have embraced the themes and are using their own unique styles.

IMHO just ensure you buy a phone with reasonably high spec and you will be fine.

Don't know what particular features are important in the UK, but for me personally I use the phone to make calls, as a work communication tool (WhatsApp), for site pictures, to faff around on Nairaland, to browse reddit, watch YouTube videos.

Last time I played a game on a phone must have been years ago. Outside of that one or two productivity apps I don't really use. I am sure you are the same

I have never personally been able to justify buying a high end Samsung or iPhone. A good 4k TV was 500 to 800k. This was also the price of a phone. I can enjoy a movie, TV shows and games on a giant screen. Why would I be watching a movie on a 6 inch screen? All that 2k or 4k screen resolution Etal makes no technical sense to me on a 5 or 6 inch screen. Imho valve understood this which is why steam deck resolution is 720p. Theres always talk about using your phone as a pc replacement or supplementary device, but if you are an actual power user this becomes bs very quickly. Some of my guys in the field have edited office documents on thier phones with horrible results. Document formatting 101% scattered.

If you are looking for a redmi alternative maybe go for the new Motorolas. Jerryrigeverything had a great review for a $500 model recently that he compared with the s26.

I suspect that as a numbers guy you are not impressed with the real value proposition of high end Samsung phones especially as they are not a UK status symbol. You guys did invent classicism, after all.

Also there is the Samsung a series from a0x to a7x I think. These are budget Samsungs and the 0 to the 7 apparently indicates the grade. For instance the a0x series is almost all plastic, two lenses with mediatek. A5x has amoled (I think) with three to four lenses.

Nah, not buying Samsung. I was on Motorola before I switched to Redmi Note 9, it was a solid option

Back then Low budget redmi phones were outperforming costly "flagship" transsion(Infinix, tecno, and itel) phones with ease. They were the benchmark.

Redmi phones going mainstream made transsion to get serious. If not for the fear of Redmi, Transsion would still be producing dogshit phones today. Redmi made Nigerians to start checking specs when buying phones, not just looking at ram/rom.

Now, it's just as you say. Only the main Xiaomi line can be taken seriously. Anybody that cannot afford, or doesn't want the main Xiaomi should forget about it. Redmi/redmi Note now are complete trash.

It's not true. There are just statistically more managers that play 4ATB. Just like at some point in history, there were statistically more managers playing 4-4-2 than 4-3-3.

Let's not also forget that said consistent winners sign the best quality players in every position, consistently.....a very important point that must not be ignored.

The game always evolves

Many more managers now might appear to line up with 4ATB; they quickly invert one of the full backs into midfield positions in attempt to overload the midfield during attacking phases of play. That is effectively a 3ATB. But you don't look at it this way because they are not using wing backs.

PSG may line up with a back 4 on paper.... they quickly move into a back 3 in the attacking phases of play, with Vintinha taking up a LB position in a back 3, and Neves pushing up very high. A very unusual tactical approach.

Pep and Enrique have already won consistently, without strict 4ATB tactical set ups.

Others are dropping skillful technical players (you mentioned Vitinha) into the back and releasing 2 killer fullbacks meaning more technical players on the pitch

Others still are releasing a very good fullback into midfield meaning they are actually starting with only 2 centre backs and 1 fullback, while the other supposed full back is a decoy midfielder

You are starting with 3 centre back lumps who are the least technical players on a team and still have 2 fullbacks

You can move a midfielder into centre back or a fullback into midfield, but you cannot turn a centre back into a midfielder

The reason more use 4-3-3 is because it works better, quite simply

The objective of the 4-3-3 is to gather the most skillful players while 3 at the back gather the most unskilful players. Unless my centre backs are decoy midfielders like Lucio, Mathias Sammer, Beckenbauer or Lothar Matheus, I don't want to hear any 3 ATB. We no even get one skillful centreback talk less of finding a 3rd

And let's not forget the cardinal non-negotiable - you cannot control midfield consistently with 3 ATB. The strive for midfield control which all great teams are founded upon requires a triangle of midfielders. Bayern, Barca, PSG, City all strive for it that's why they have 3 midfielders and try to add more by putting a fullback to join them.

I'm disappointed that Alonso who made his name in a triumvirate with Busquet and Xavi for Spain will subscribe to Amorim philosophy. But I'm not surprised that our fraudulent technical directors who have so far sold themselves as technical experts in a 4-3-3 have no ethos or philosophy and will jump from pillar to post. Bayern, Liverpool, Barca, Madrid can never employ Alonso without demanding 4-3-3. The reason Liverpool overlooked Alonso is because they have an ethos and identity despite Alonso being their legend.
