Partey is great but I can't support my team buying a 27 year old Ghanaian. His real age will be 30-32. Within a couple of years, he fit wash like most Ghanaian midfielders like Appiah, Muntari, Essien, Asamoah. They all washed in their mid to late 20s.

You are so far from it. Matic is no Casemiro. Casemiro is a chaser. Matic is a position player. Casemiro can cover an attacking fullback. Matic does not have such mobility. Besides the fact you already have Fernandes means your setup is more 4-2-3-1 than 4-3-3 so you can't ask 2 CMs to drop deep and help the DM with game control since Fernandes is a different profile. VDB is not far from a good CM while Fernandes is a good AM. What you need is an Allan/Hojberg behind them who is mobile and good in controlling the game. These guys like Allan/Hojberg can even cover fullbacks when they push forward. Allan and Hojberg can even play together in tougher games behind just Fernandes cos Hojberg can play box2box and Allan is not shabby in pushing into CM either

Sorry but this is not accurate one bit. A DM role is set by the coach and the coach alone. Not all DM controls tempo infact most don't. Casemiro/Matic are the same type of Dms. Thier job is to act as destroyers not tempo setters.

When you check most possession stats, DMs are always forefront in no of touches and no of passes. Madrid play quite a deep midfield with Kroos and Modric helping Casemiro with ball work because Casemiro is not good in that aspect, however most passing stats are dominated by DMs, followed by centrebacks

It is actually more than just a solid DM. He is buying and using players that do not fit his football philosophy.

He wants to play out from the back he went to buy a RB who has zero footballing ability at 50m.

He wants to press high up the pitch and he bought a last man who is as slow as a turtle for 80m. You as an ex-footballer should know what happens when a team presses high while its CB drops off.

He wants to press high up the pitch and he is playing 2 immobile midfielders in Pogba and Matic.

But the most significant problem is that whatever his football philosophy is he is not able to implement it on the training ground. His tactical incompetence is just the cherry on top.

Indeed he wants to play a certain style but fails to identify the qualities in each position needed to play that style. I don't totally blame him for failing to spot Magwayas lack of pace though. Magwaya at Leicester and Sheffield drifts past players with the ball when driving forward from defence that it will give you the false impression he has some pace. You will not know he drifted past those players due to feints that put them off balance and allowed him to surge past them. It is only when you turn Magwaya toward his own goal that you notice his lack of pace.

Nope you are wrong on all counts. Midfield was not a priority and even if we wanted a midfielder it won't be in the profile of those players you mentioned. We have the defensive midfield requirements in Fred,Matic and McTom and we have the attacking options in Pogba and Bruno. If we wanted a midfielder it will be in the profile of a Scholes,Modric or a Xavi. A player that can control the Midfield tempo and keep us ticking even under pressure not another box to box player.

You no know ball. Your DM controls the tempo of your passing as well as protects the defence. You think just having DMs means that role is covered. All your DMs are missing something that makes you vulnerable. Matic is missing speed, Fred is missing touch, passing and ability to receive the ball and turn. McTom is missing what Fred is missing but not to the same extent. DM is the most important position in football after Striker and Goalkeeper. A good DM can cover a lot of sins in a team and settles every other player down to focus on their strengths.

Ole is always asking for the wrong players and una dey defend am.

His first need in that team is a solid DM. He could have asked for Hojberg and Allan who would cost him a combined £40m and solve half his problems, yet he keeps going for megabucks players.

I don't think so. Not too many coaches are playing with balance except likes of Arteta. Every coach wants to be a mini version of Pep or Klopp with crazy pressing and highline. Directors of football won't give you job these days unless you fit this profile. With clubs knowing VAR could blow pen against them at any time, it's like there's a shift in mentality generally to try to score as much as possible because if you try the old tactics of parking bus, and the ball is in your area too much, VAR would find way of awarding pen for any 50:50 tussle between your defenders and opposition. So parking bus is now a risky tactic.

Nonsense or not, he drives the other team backward and is competitive in the game. His only problem is decision making. I would rather have a midfielder that keeps me in the game but wastes the final ball, than a midfielder with good decision making who escorts opponents to score against me.

One clear thing this season is that defence won't be a great source of points. Between players playing less cautiously due to lack of fans in the stadium, and every manager wanting to press high and keep their defence on the halfway line, defences will leak goals. Also defences are making too many short passes in defence, leading to mistakes rather than booting the ball to the striker.

My boy Hojberg has changed Spurs. Spurs will be a threat with that boy holding down their DM position.
