Based on what I have heard & read in recent times, Berlin is one of the lively cities in DE with lots of opportunities. Accomodation ain't cheap though cuz of the high volume of immigrants. You've chosen well. Several things to benefit on the long run. If you don't mind, you can search for this moniker Berliner1, he will explain better. He resides in the city. |

Akwaekee: About the alleged BA increase, the information on DAAD website said it'd be effective from January 2020. https://www.daad.de/deutschland/nach-deutschland/voraussetzungen/en/9198-financing/ Hopefully, they won't implement it this August, as was earlier rumoured. Damn,, €10k is on the high side.. Close to ₦4.1m One will have to double his hustle to gęt that. I think Germany is becoming more expensive as the day goes by, therefore the need for BA increment. Who knows how I can make €1 be converted to ₦200..?? |

Eromose08: Nice one Bro, this really means a lot. Please How abt Berlin school of business and innovation? That's my school. Thanks. School of Business & Innovation, cool name You just reminded me of one Canadian school located in Vancouver which I pursued some time ago.. Just to get AL as a potential MBA student, the course adviser asked me several times with her oyinbo accent if I can pay ₦11m (I can't remember the CAD equivalent, and this amount is the money I was to pay in addition to the scholarship I was given). IELTS waived for me, GMAT not rqd as well.. Just B.Sc cert, NYSC cert, transcript, CV, letter of intent, completed application forms and cash,, that was all. And at that time I never knew Germany was free.. I thought to myself, even if I sell my Father's lands in the village, I won't raise up to that amount. Naso I take discard the Canada dream biko.. Okay back to your question.., BSBI isn't tuition free (am sure you are aware), in addition you pay higher as a Non-EU student. An exception though is the language course which is free (just like some public schools, nothing special). I must say the institution is of high standard and is in partnership with reputable companies.. So many benefits to be enjoyed as a student (one is the international field trips). Their rqts are stated on the portal, self explanatory, though if you still need a breakdown of the necessary steps to take then you mail the course adviser (email address is there). They do offer discount to early tuition fee payers.. If you have the financial resources i.e you can afford tuition fees + BA + other side fees then this institution is for you. You apply, get AL, get AD then AM afterwards. Just the usual way. No difference. Goodluck with your search brö.. |
Travel › Re: Nigerian Students In Germany..how Do You Survive?? by IchBinBrait(m): 7:38pm On Jul 12, 2019 |
folarin1990: Hello House I am an intending Applicant for Msc in a German university. 2020 Winter Hopeful. I have been making a couple of researches on German study for international students and I believe this will be helpful to someone.
A students packing list for Germany
Primary List
1. Valid passport with your student visa 2. Air ticket 3. Admission letter from the university 4. All financial documentation you will require to submit to the university or immigration authorities. 5. All original certificates and other important documents 6. Traveler’s cheques and sufficient cash 7. Photos – 20 Copies in different sizes 8. Detailed directions to your university or accommodations 9. Details of contacts (Family friends, Seniors, Personal Friends)
My opinion
Make sure your date of travel is later than your visa goes into effect. I have a friend who got stuck at immigration of a foreign country because she travelled before her day her visa went into effect. Check and cross check your visa. You might already know that students get extra baggage allowance the first time they travel. If you do not know this yet, contact the airline and ask how you can enable this offer. The baggage allowance might vary from 40- 56 Kg depending on the airline you are travelling with. Remember the baggage gets misplaced and lost quite a lot. Make sure you have your address and contact details on your baggage. Also buying a lightweight suitcase will help you carry a few kilos extra. So buy some good bags. You can check out Amazon for affordable suitcases. If you are renting an apartment outside the university, ask the house master if he can pick you up from the railway station. Most of them would oblige and drive you to the apartment. If you are living in studentenwohnheim (Student hostel) contact someone already there and ask if they can help you get to the hostel. If that does not work out, contact the international office of your university and ask them if they can help. Universities have some kind off buddy program under which recurrent students help new students settle down..
Utensils 1. Pressure cooker 2. Spare gaskets & safety valves 3. Utensils 4. Grinder (Not a must) 5. Frying pan 6. Good knife
Toiletries and Medicines
1. First aid box 2. Prescribed Medicines 3. General Medicines 4. Toothpaste 5. Toothbrush 6. Bathing soap 7. Shampoo 8. Cold cream 9. Nail clipper 10. Shaving kit
Clothes and Accessories 1. Few pairs of jeans 2. A very good jacket for winter 3. Thermal wear – men – women
My opinion
How many clothes you wish to carry is upon you. However, if you are arriving in winter term pack a good number of warm clothes. German winters are harsh. The temperature is mostly in single digit or sub-zero. Thermal wear will help you beat the cold more effectively.
Electronics 1. A laptop without a bit-torrent client 2. Universal plug adapter 3. Scientific Calculator 4. Headphone
Cash
The most important of all, EUROS. Carry good amount of cash. A few things to take into consideration. You will need cash to pay a deposit for your apartment and pay semester fee at the university. Blocked account sometimes take about a month or so to get unblocked. So carry enough cash to survive a couple of months. Important: Do not transfer any deposit money for the apartment before arriving here. Many people have been ripped by frauds. Also, read the contract terms of apartment renting very carefully, or any contract that you sign for that matter. Ask for English translations if you do not know German.
Phone Contract
If you are going for a post-paid phone contract in Germany, you should know that you are signing a contract for two years (in most cases), the customer representative will tell you all about it. What (s)he might skip is that the contract is auto-renewed if you do not cancel the contract three months prior to its expiry. You will be most likely to be moved to a high expense plan and the contract extends for further two years. There is no way to get out of contract. A prepaid contract is a safer bet but you get less for more money.
More to come

I have never heard of that before. Highest they could have done was seize (permanently) or issue malpractice forms to culprits. I know they were trying to teach the students a lesson. Sometimes I blame students for the treatments they receive. Read dem no go gree read, na to dey carry expo upandan.. Burning a mobile phone doesn't sound reasonable to me shaa... It will serve as a deterrent to students planning on cheating through this means but the act is not okay because it is a complete waste of resources.. |

ornicus: make we hear word jare. alot of these organizations pay their executive ridiculous benefits for no actual value On the contrary, the executives do add value. According to the business school of thought, the executives do the thinking, deliberate on issues, make decisions, attend meetings and formulate strategic policies for the long term growth & survival of the company. They are paid millions every month. They receive mind blowings salaries plus other incentives and benefits (remuneration package). Whereas the low level / middle level staff are the ones to do the field marketing "under the sun or in the rain" (abi no be so dem dey sing am for NYSC), long hour standing and general day to day operations and so on.... And some receive peanut at the end of the month. This doesn't happen only in Nigeria but all over the world. I don't crucify emphasizers of "start up a business," "be your own boss" etc... |

lonelygem: If I hear hard work for Una mouth ehn.
I lost reasonable money to Ecobank staff negligence sometimes ago.
I made a transaction which the beneficiary claimed didn't receive and had been debited from my Ecobank account. I insisted the beneficiary should hold on till I confirm what happened from Ecobank before making another transaction.
I went to Ecobank branch and I was asked to fill in a disbursement error form which I did.
I asked repeatedly as I never trusted the beneficiary if I could go ahead and make a new payment to the beneficiary, the customer care lady said a capital yes assuring me the initial fund will be reversed to my account immediately as I'd filled the disbursement error form.
I left and made a fresh payment to the beneficiary, and I forgot about the whole thing..
2days, 5days one week gone no reversal. I went to the branch again to complain, it was then they started looking for the disbursement error form I filled a week ago. When they eventually found the form, it was discovered that the form wasn't processed, during the period, the cash cleared into the beneficiary's account unaltered because the form was not processed..
We started sending mails to Lagos office to rectify the issue, the guy in Lagos equally didn't respond tilll about 26days of the whole mess.. We kept calling from the branch phone, the branch manager's mobile number and my personal mobile number, the idiot was not on desk for days, and wasn't responding to mobile phone calls..
When he finally responded after 26days.. He only commented "the transaction cleared into the beneficiary's account" that was how I lost the money..
I quietly stoped using the account for any transaction since 2016. I just counted Ecobank out of my business life.
It may be funny that most employee don't deserve what they actually earn and can be so shameless to come to protest ground without conscience.. I'm soo sorry about that brother, but did you call the beneficiary to enquire whether he/she received double deposits?? Also, bank staff can't be trusted. Whichever bank it is. Who knows maybe the Lagos guy diverted the money to his side. I had taken out time to study Ecobank's staff during my early teenage years. No be today something,, e don tey. Those guys have no joy at all; they render poor customer service and speak to customers anyhow they like, some of them are damn lazy to the bone (to the extent that they frown whenever they see a customer standing right in front of them in order to make a deposit), their USSD service is bullshit. They behave the same way everywhere. Could it be that they are way underpaid or they just chose to be annoying... Where them customers dey... If you are a customer and you haven't YELLED at those staff before, don't worry, something will make you shout. You'd want to fight sęf. I won't forget the day I transferred out all my bucks from my account with them, then I burnt my atm card. I did not want to have anything to do with them again. I just hope they work on their flaws. The bank has come out to deny the sack accusations against them... Na them sabi. |

For all the negative press this has caused, German Authorities should immediately deport them back to Nigeria. The German Government does not deport a non-citizen without any cogent reason. She won't be deported so long she is entitled to stay in the country legally and hasn't done contrary to the visa stipulation. Germany is an organized, bureaucratic country.
