Politics / Re: Nigerian Police Torture 'routine' by Icon(m): 10:13pm On Mar 10, 2007
The problem is both from the top and from the bottom. Bottom because many people are already corrupt even before they join the police and Top because the actions of the Leaders themselves encourage such activities. There is no leadership by example, everyone is too busy trying to chop the maximum he/she can before leaving the post and thus don't have time to reform the sectors talk less of the Police.

Music/Radio / Re: I Need Some Tips On Song Writing by Icon(m): 6:33pm On Mar 08, 2007
Good comments so far. I'll add some points you should follow if you want to be an outstanding songwriter.
[li]Decide what genre and style you want to major in[/li]
[li]List some top artists in that genre and get a list of their top songs[/li]
[li]Learn the songs by heart and study the structures (what comes before what and where, the feel of the chorus, verse, B section, bridge, etc.)[/li]
[li]Practise, practise and pratice[/li]
It'll be a good thing to learn how to translate notes to tonic-solfa (do, re, mi, etc) because inspiration can come at different times and if not documented can easily be forgotten (Oh, all the hit songs I never wrote because. I forgot!!! wink angry angry)
Good Luck. I'll add more tips if I can remember,

Omo Eko, just pulling your legs. I'm sure the truth will come out anyway. In any case, I think it will be in his best interests if he steps down and go rest in his home.

LOL. Nah, I don't want him dead at all. The Yaradua family has suffered enough. On the contrary, I think Omo Eko wants that.
Politics / Re: Yar'Adua Flown Abroad After Going Into Coma? by Icon(m): 10:53pm On Mar 07, 2007
Meanwhile, there was something else I noticed from the network news. There was some focus on Maryam Babangida and her Better life for rural women , talking about how it's being extended to be Betterlife for African Rural Women and all the good it has done for society. I'm beginning to be skeptical. Why all the focus on Babangida? Why did they not carry the Better Life for Rural Women Story 2 years ago? Why now? I hope some people don't have game plans up their sleeves , cos they'll fail!

Omo Eko:

how do we know the interview wasn't tap before he died this morning

Na wa for Omo Eko o! It was a live interview. Questions were being asked and he was answering. I couldn't get all of it though. There was a question asking about his health, and he said it's OK. Another question about whether he slumped before being taken out, and he said no. Another question was whether it was true that he would be undergoing a surgery before recovery and he said no. The setting was a PDP rally. I could see the PDP people in their attire. The interview was placed on loudspeaker and everyone was hearing it.
@Omo Eko, that would be difficult to fake, why I go do interview when I know say i go die? shocked shocked
@Swing, that was all I could get from the interviews.

It was a long interview. I don't think it was fake. That would be taking it too far

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Oceanic Bank To Virgin Nigeria: Worth It? by Icon(m): 3:32pm On Mar 07, 2007
I heard Oceanic is one of the best paying banks? I don't know much about Virgin renumerations. It also depends on what level they are taking you in as. If they're considering your current experience @ Oceanic, they would likely be willing to pay more. However, if it's entry level, it might not be worth it.
Career / Re: Should I Accept This 25K Job? by Icon(m): 2:40pm On Mar 07, 2007
Try and negotiate for a higher pay. If you're not successful, I want you to weigh your options. While having a job might make it easier to move to another job, it may also hinder you because then, you'll have to take permission from your boss when you want to attend other interviews during working hours.

Politics / Re: Yar'Adua Flown Abroad After Going Into Coma? by Icon(m): 2:14pm On Mar 07, 2007
These people in power never cease to amaze me. Someone is sick, you start flying him up and down stressing him with presidential primaries. Marina today, port harcourt tomorrow, Ibadan the next , that's enough to wear anyone down. I honestly feel very sorry for the Yaradua family. This is the second son they're losing to the same cause , God help us!
Politics / Re: Yar'Adua Flown Abroad After Going Into Coma? by Icon(m): 10:18am On Mar 07, 2007
Men, This is serious indeed!!! Hopefully, they'll realize their mistake and elect another candidate ASAP. What happened to Obasanjo's "Do or Die" attitide? Apparently Yaradua doesn't have that attitude.

Politics / Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Icon(m): 7:53pm On Mar 04, 2007
@Afam, I'll not debate the other issues you've brought up but I'm suprised that you keep on bringing up rotational presidency. There is nothing that makes the presidency a birthright for certain tribe. All the hype about he has to be from the north or from the south, or about Igbo people stepping down to make sure there's only one igbo candidate is all rubbish. It's not about what part of the country a person is from, It's about whether he can deliver. After all, Donald Duke is from Cross River which can't really be classified among any of the 3 major tribes and had he contested, there are good chances he would have won.
Personally I don't care about what part of a country he is from. A man of the people will strive to make things better and allow this country to achieve it's full potential. He could be from anywhere, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba , I couldn't care less. We've had notherners as heads of state who have done nothing, we've had yorubas who messed up big time. It's time we put all that aside and start thinking about a man of the people.
Politics / Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Icon(m): 11:54pm On Mar 02, 2007
Afam:

So, for an Utomi that does not even understand the power equation in Nigeria today, wanting to become president, it shows that he does not even understand Nigeria well.
Well, those who understand Nigeria well are those who understand how to chop Nigeria's money and cover their tracks by putting in candidates who'll be like them. Is that what we want? It won't happen again.

Business / Re: How To Write A Business Proposal? by Icon(m): 10:23pm On Mar 02, 2007
Nice one there, Jenita.
@ Namdee, I'll say that a business proposal depends on a lot of things. What exactly is the business about, who is the target audience/market? What size of capital are you looking at , and how long do you expect to break even? I think you first need to define what your business does before starting to write a proposal. A proposal to start a Telecommunications company will be much different from a proposal to start a business center.

Education / Re: What's The Secret To Success In JAMB? by Icon(m): 5:23pm On Mar 02, 2007
Get a collection of past question papers for the exams you want to write. After you are done with the sylabus, start practising with this. Do it under exam conditions. I remember I practised about 12 years of past questions under exam conditions. Your success will be guranteed if you do that. Good Luck
