tbaba12345:Yet someone here once concluded he is our best Right back option for the Super Eagles. We need to see him start playing games first. |
tbaba12345:With this guy (we know Siasia has always been chasing after him), Chikatara and Aaron Samuel being U23 plus the inclusion of Odion Ighalo, I am begining to fear for Isaac Success' chance of being in Rio. |
Thanks tbaba1234 for the updates. |
alaskido:My problem with V8 is nt even d fuel consumption bt d resale value. Ppl run away from it more so when it is naija used. |
Air Peace. Pple can take risk sha. For me it is either Arik, Aero or I hit Iyare or Edegbe line motor park. |
I am not an APC supporter. Neither am I a Buhari fan. But if u read those lines very well u will understand Lie Mahammed was misquoted. Simple and plain truth. Thisday has just goofed on this one. |
forgiveness:I know what u are insinuating. Tribalism abi? Firstly i can almost tell u with all certainty that this thread is abt d most detribalised of all threads on nairaland. We want d best for our national teams. And to achieve this we need d best players irrespective of ethnicity and religion. On the issue of Adekanye, the NFF has spelt it out that the U17 team shall b comprised mostly of home grown talent. This I believe would have played a major role in Amuneke ignoring Adekanye. U once raised a related question concerning Funso Bangboye. Funso was spotted when d team took a tour to d Emirates and played a series of friendlies which included d Aspire Academy. Amuneke then was in dire need of strengthening his squad after finishing 4th at CAF U17. On d issue of peeps fronting Chidozie Awaziem while nt fronting Tiago Ilori. Well, i dnt know for how long u have been a forumite on nairaland bt i can tell that in years past several pple have clamoured for d invitation of Tiago Ilori(I was a front runner) of which Ilori came open to say he wanted to play for Portugal. We have moved on and shifted attention elsewhere ever since. I am sure u know I am nt one of those clamouring for d inclusion of Awaziem in d Super Eagles. Infact when d argument came up dat he was a best centre back option for d Super Eagles i quickly countered it cos I know starting jst 2 or 3 matches for Porto is nt enough to make such a conclusion. However, i can tell u that d fronting of Awaziem by some peeps here is nt based on ethnic sentiments. They simply feel for him to break into d FC Porto starting line-up he is good enough for d Eagles (an opinion i dnt share). I believe this forum is made up of pple from different ethnic grps. There is nothing like selective fronting here. When a player is good we say it and clamour for that player irrespective of his ethnicity. |
CFCman:Immediately i saw dat fixrure i knew it was over for South Africa. Nigeria Will go through with nothing less than a 10-0 aggregate |
Rewatching that final clip, Amuneke was nt actually off-side though d other players around him were. Good memories. Hope we repeat this achievement in Rio Olympics. |
TheGoodJoe: Lamentations chapter 1 verse 2. ![]() Take heart my brother. The title is coming to London. ![]() |
joseph1013:Emma, being a very busy person, may not have the time to read through all comments here. But one thing I know is he knows about this forum. Surprised , surprised? Yes he gets feed-backs from his Team media officer. I dnt know if a Media officer has been appointed for the U20 Team yet as the technical team is just being assembled. He had a Team media officer during the U17 WC (Morakinyo Abodunrin) who was following reactions of Nigerians all through the tourney and nairaland was one of the front liners. One thing I must tell you is our comments go beyond here. Some of you with popular monikers here are well known within the NFF quarters. So never see it as a waste of time as important people are reading. |
forgiveness:Ok. |
TheGoodJoe:These talented young lads are just too many. That was the point I was pointing out to Tbaba and forgiveness about Ehizibue who they feel we have lost a lot by allowing Holland to invite him for their U21. I dnt believe Ehizibue is better than Nura Abdullahi, John Lazarus and Sincere Seth. Not to talk of the right back we have in the U23(Seth one of them) and Super Eagles. |
TheGoodJoe:The bolded is my point. Chukwueze is being tutored as a winger at Arsenal and it would be counter productive to impose Nura Abdullahi in that wing position. Let Nura compete for the Right back position with Lazarus and let the better player emerge. No big deal if Nura or Lazarus sits on the bench. But remember also that Sincere Seth is also eligible. Seth to me is currently ahead of Lazarus. Sincere Seth will only turn 18 in April this year and he has already played in a CAF U23 tourney which he emerged one of d best defenders. He is currently in the Super Eagles camp. |
This Flying Eagles team. When I think about the quality of players that are eligible to play I can't but say wow! My only wish is that Amuneke should invite all players eligible. And their clubs should equally release them. Just take a look at the midfield Trio of Azubuike Okechukwu, Kelechi Nwakali and Ifeanyi Mathew. The wings pair of Musa Yahaya and Samuel Chukwueze. Attacking options of : Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, Sadiq Umar and Chidera Ezeh. Talking abt the defence, we were jst discussing Nura Abdullahi and John Lazarus, we forget that there is Sincere Seth (another Right back) Chiedozie Awaziem is also eligible, |
TheGoodJoe:Let Nura and Lazarus be our 2 right back options and let Chukwueze do his usually damage from d wing. |
TheGoodJoe:So where do we put Samuel Chukwueze? If the guy is better than John Lazarus or vice versa no big deal in one of the two sitting on the bench. |
BlackAlbino6:@ bolded, Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze soon to join. Tell me why I will not love Arsenal. |
forgiveness:Ok thanks, he joined them at U20. |
AIG07:In the same way that MOST players from other U17 teams all over the world dnt get to play for their respective senior teams. @ bolded, tell us the other yardsticks. |
forgiveness:Alex Iwobi featured in the NIG vs DRC and NIG vs CMR friendlies. Talking abt Alaba and Delle Alli, i can see they have helped Austria and England respectively to win the World Cup. Is Ehizibue d only young player that has nt been invited? We have youngsters like Awaziem, Success, Odubajo, and a host of others hu are on d waiting line. Is Ehizibue better than them? |
AIG07:In that team were also Kenneth Omeruo, Ramon Azeez, Michael Olaitan, Abdul Ajagun, and Olanrewaju Kayode. The thing is majority of U17 graduates dnt end up playing for d senior national team. I think so far d Japan 93 set had d highest number of players hu later played for d Super Eagles:just 5players out of 18 in dat squad. They are closely followed by that 2009 set that u are talking down. Yes 4players: Kennth Omeruo, Ogenyi Onazi, Ramon Azeez & Stanley Okoro have played for d Super Eagles. Bt for ill health Michael Olaitan i blieve would have featured for d Super Eagles by now. Now remember those boys are still below 24 , there is a possibility dat players like Abdul Ajagun, Mike Olaitan and Olanrewaju Kayode can get to feature for d eagles. When dat crop progressed to d U20s in 2011 & 2013 they were jouned by players like: Ahmed Musa, Uche Nwofor, Shehu Abdullahi, Usman Mohammed, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Aminu Umar, Emem Eduok and Kingsley Madu all of whom u know are Super Eagles players today. They are also known as d John Obu's boys; jst like how we have d Yemi Tela's boys, Manu's boys and Amuneke's boys. Permit me to say that d John Obu's boys: 2009 U17, 2011 U20 & 2013 U20 dominate d Super Eagles and Olympic teams today. That production line to me did nt turn out badly. |
forgiveness:Let me start with ur last sentence. Iwobi was nt jst invited bc he is abt to b capped. He has been capped already . I am surprised u dnt know dat. Then to ur other statement; nobody is bitting any finger bc of Alaba or Dele Alli. U cannot b capping every d!ck and harry player u see in Europe jst bc u dnt want dem to play for d other country. So we should ignore d already identified and established players and start chasing after players hu probably have nt even shown interest to play for Nigeria? I am nt saying we should nt go after such players bt as i said before we cannot cap all of them all at once even if we parade four Super Eagles teams. After all in d last 1-2 years we have capped players like Leone Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Steven Ukoh and Alex Iwobi. In more distant past we also converted Sola Ameobi, Victor Moses and Victor Anichebe. Such players are many and can only b introduced bit by bit. |
Orkpekyandega:Is it nt those bunch of imposters dat wore and disgraced our national colours at CHAN? I said it that d U23 team is better dan that Home based Eagles team. If a player like Ifeanyi Mathew couldn't break into d U23 team and became d midfield marshal at d CHAN team. That speaks volume. |
Orkpekyandega:Same here. Ok if it must b in d North, y nt Abuja stadium? A stdium dat will make u drop ur most in-form defender in a very crutial tie. Must u play in dat stadium.Pple like Iheanacho and Iwobi dat give sleek passes will really find it difficult on such a pitch. Yet u still want to play on dat pitch. I tire for these our NFF guys o. |
TheGoodJoe:Last year I was on one of our field locations and was watching one of our earlier qualifying matches. I think the Chad game. It was played in Kaduna. Though there was a TV in my office and personal room but I preferred watching in the general room with the other workers. Earlier before that game we watched a match involving I think Zambia or Uganda or so. We enjoyed the game as the stadium had a quality pitch. When It was time for the Nigeria game, everything changed. The stadium looked like below standard, the pitch was an embarrassment for a great country like Nigeria. There was a Northerner by my side and he was also watching the game. (Without any ethnic sentiments) I asked why this Kaduna stadium of all places, National stadium Abuja is there, the Nest of Champions Uyo is there and the New Port Harcourt stadium all of which have natural grasses. Like-Play, like-play, this man saw it as an attack on the North o. If no be say I be him oga him for slap me sef. He even went as far as telling me we people from the South especially the SE don't always say anything good about the North. I was like For football matter again. I just concentrated on my match and ignored him. What I am pointing out here is the choice of Kaduna is most likely to be politically generated. A certain section of the country also want a fair share of the games even though the weather and other conditions are nt favorable to our foreign players. |
chrisooblog:Good point bro.! |
TheGoodJoe:This takes us back to the question: WHY KADUNA? Oliseh wanted Port-Harcourt but that created a rift between him and the NFF board. Port-Harcourt is a cooler city and most of our foreign based players can easily adjust. The Egyptians are coming with 80% locally based players. Egypt is within the hot Arid region. I hope taking them to a hot city like Kaduna would not bring out the best in them. You remember why we could not qualify for the 2006 world Cup? Nig 1-1 Angola; venue: Sani Abacha stadium Kano. The players after the game complained of immense hot and humid weather. Most of the Angolan players were locally based. There is a current called "the benguela current" that blows along the coast of Angola. It is a cool current that is responsible for the Aridity(dry weather) being experienced in the most part of Angola. The NFA took the game to Kano that has arid weather conditions. Most of our players played in Europe under a different weather condition. Most of the Angolan players played in Angola that predominantly experiences that arid weather condition. And you know the result as the rest is history. Nigeria finished on 20pts same with Angola. We even had a superior goals difference bt head to head counted against us. We lost 1-0 in Luanda and then that silly 1-1 draw in Kano. I DON'T LIKE THE CHOICE OF KADUNA AS THE VENUE FOR THAT GAME. |
TheGoodJoe:Why-Siasia-left-out-Leon-Balogun-Ideye-Success-Official Eagles caretaker coach Samson Siasia 42-man squad list for a double-header against Egypt reflected the current form of Nigeria players, but the likes of Leon Balogun, Brown Ideye and Isaac Success were some worthy omissions with reasons too. A top member of the NFF technical committee, who pleaded anonymity, spoke specially on these players who should have been there, but are not there. Here are the reasons Siasia proffered for omitting these players when he defended his list before the committee. LEON BALOGUN (DEFENDER/MAINZ, GERMANY) Form guide: Leon is arguably, Nigeria’s most in-form defender in Europe. He has been largely used at right back in the national team, but has been deployed at the heart of Mainz defence in the Bundesliga this season. He has made 18 appearances for Mainz in all competitions, the last being the 2-1 defeat of Bayern Munich on Wednesday. His partnership with Stefan Bell in Mainz central defense has been largely the reason the team is in the hunt for a Champions League play-off spot. Why he is not on the list: Our source said: “We raised this with Siasia but his reason is cogent - You don’t invite players for the fun of it. We agree that he is having a good season but this is Africa and not Europe. You can see how hot the weather is in Abuja. So imagine how it will be in Kaduna when we play Egypt. “Leon could struggle in those situations. You remember, we had similar problems with Reuben Agboola back in the days. “This is a crucial match where circumstances beyond the game proper could be decisive, so we need players who will be comfortable within our environment. “Leon is still part of the team and will be invited for future games, but we had to leave him out for this one.” ISAAC SUCCESS (STRIKER/GRANADA, SPAIN) Form guide: Success has been an ever-present in the Granada starting 11 this season. He has played 28 times in all competitions for Granada this season scoring five goals with three assists. He was on target in Granada’s 2-0 defeat of Sporting Gijon in Spanish La Liga this week. Naturally a striker, he has been deployed more from the left flank this season. Why he is not on the list: Our source further explained: “Success was equally mentioned, but the main snag is his goal conversion rate. “His work rate is commendable but for a striker, he needs to score more goals. Against Egypt, we will need more potent strikers in front of goal. We will need strikers who will take the opportunities when they come. “He is quite a young chap who will be very useful to the national team in future but such a crucial game might not actually be the right time to blood him. Remember he is yet to make his full international debut. “In future, it will be interesting to see how he links up with the likes of Ighalo in the attack”. BROWN IDEYE (STRIKER/OLYMPIACOS, GREECE) Form guide: Brown played 28 matches in all competitions for Greek champions Olympiacos this season (20 in Greek Super League, 6 in UEFA Champions League and 2 in Europa League). The last of these performances was against Anderlecht in the Europa league on February 25. On the whole, Olympiacos’s number 99 scored eight goals with one assist. The move to Olympiacos saw a rejuvenation of his career after the lull at West Bromwich Albion. Why he is not on the list: Our source; “The idea of having Ideye serve as a foil for Ighalo is appetising. We all know what Troy Deneey does for Ighalo at Watford. He will need such a player in the national team. “But while you have to note that Brown also has a low goal conversion rate, his usefulness in a 4-4-2 situation cannot be ignored. “But we have players like Victor Moses returning to the national team. “Brown should return soon but not for this game. We cannot invite all the players at the same time”. DELE AJIBOYE (GOALKEEPER/WARRI WOLVES) Form guide: Dele’s form at Warri Wolves has caught the attention of NPFL observers. Not a few believe he is the most in-form keeper in the domestic scene. He has started and finished all Wolves four games this season and kept three clean sheets. He was the stand-out keeper at the Super 4 and has kept a below-par Wolves side afloat this season. Why he is not on the list: Our source; “We invited two foreign-based keepers, Carl Ikeme and Dan Akpeyi. The three home-based keepers who should open the camp are national team ‘keepers at different levels. “Ajiboye’s form has been noted but you know that the goalkeeping career is a bit more exclusive than the out-field players, the choices are limited. “I have no doubt that Dele will get his chance after the Egypt games. We have also noted his good form.” http://mtnfootball.com/news/616487/Why-Siasia-left-out-Leon-Balogun-Ideye-Success-Official |
cruzita:Looks more like pesin wey still dey poverty |
TheGoodJoe:Yeah, but Siasia cited weather as reason for not initially inviting him. |
TheGoodJoe:So Chibuzor Okonkwo is now the better option? Will the return leg in Egypt also be as hot and humid as the first leg in Kaduna? |
