Curtisaxel7: "I am very optimistic about my team's chances in this tourney. My crew and I are working hard to ensure a good outing. We have learnt from our mistakes in past competitions and will try to do better this time. I really believe we will make Nigerians proud".
Will Rohr die if he says this before a tournament?. Must it be pessimism and unambitiousness all the time?. For Chrissakes we are currently rated THIRD in Africa. Is the AFCON trophy too much to expect from a team rated third on the continent?. Bros, that is the way you will choose to put it. Coaches play the mind game a lot. We should learn to read deep meanings into their comments. |

Curtisaxel7: Rohr on probable AFCON winners.
"Group D is the strongest with big opponents, including South Africa. For me, Morocco is one of the favorites to win the Cup, just like Ivory Coast, which won twice,'' said Rohr to Medias24.
''I think Egypt, which will play at home, is the number one favorite. There is also Senegal, the best African team in the FIFA rankings.
''As I said before, Morocco remains a favorite of this CAN, Tunisia too. After, I hope we too will be able to get involved in the title race.'' And what do you guys expect him to say? Would u rather he goes about bragging that we are favorites to win it? Which coach does that? He might say this to the public but I can bet what he says to his boys would definitely be different. U guys need to understand how these coaches reason. |

CAF U17 matches played yesterday:
Senegal 0:0 Cameroon Guinea 1:0 Morocco.
Cameroon and Guinea qualify.
Semis: Nigeria vs Guinea Cameroon vs Angola.
Senegal, pre-tournament favorites crashed. Guinea that they beat 4:0 in the final of the WAFU Zone A qualfiers beat them in Tanzania 1:0. Senegal had an excellent pre- CAF U17 tournament session. They won all their games in the Turkey invitational without conceding, even beating Nigeria 2:0.
Senegal, Perennial underachievers, underachieve again. |

OMANBALA1: Lmao...You have some questionable behavior. How can you single out Tijani and Jabaar alone?? So far, Tijani has not outperformed Ubani and Jabaar was just playing his first game. At least, with this U17 set up you can be satisfied.....if you know, you know The issue is a lot of people only watched yesterday's game and Drew a conclusion. I watched all 90mins of all 3 group games. Firstly, contrary to what some have been saying Wisdom O Ubani is a very deadly striker. Akinwunmi Amoo is another very skill and deadly forward. And contrary to ur view Tijani has been excellent all tournament. And Jabaar to me is an upgrade from Olusegun who was sent to the bench because of his selfish plays especially against Angola. By and large Manu needs to work on their finishing. |

komekn: I really do.not get carried away with U17 football because at best is indicative of potential not much more else.
Without thay potential being developed it can actually very sadly amount to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
If U17 football was a major milestone in football progression and superior quality. Then we should be winning the World cup by now. But we are far from dominating African football.
How many of our U17 football players have progressed to top class football commensurate with the high levels they achieved at world youth level. ❓ Oga, at least u have to first identify the potentials before you start talking about any development. We have identified some potentials and we are glad we did. Is there anything wrong with that? |

Dreambeat: Nigeria has not qualified yet.The eaglets need a draw to qualify. If Uganda beats Nigeria and Angola beats Tanzania, the country that qualifies will be determined by goal difference because on head to head no team among the top three will be ahead of the others.Infarct it is only Cameroon that has qualified for the World Cup in this competition You are right bro. |

Clementoke: The Highly feared and revered Senegalese under 17 team is currently struggling and now needs an outright win against group leaders Cameroon to stand any chance of qualifying for the Semifinals and the World Cup. The race is certainly not to the Swift. Selah Even if Sengal beats Cameroon, if Guinea beats or draw Morocco, Senegal are out. That is typical of Senegal. They usually hold so much promise but disappoint when it matters most. This is one major reason I wouldn't tip Senegal to win the 2019 AFCON. |

But often time 2 wins see you through In the case of nigeria
Worse case scenerio if uganda beat us we qualify as 2nd best. But remember Angola are also on 3pts. A win against Tanzania takes them to 6pts, level with Uganda(if they beat Nigeria) and Nigeria. Meanwhile since ..... Angola beat Uganda Nigeria beat Angola And if Uganda beat Nigria Based on head to head Which two teams will top? |

robosky02: UGANDA U17 V TANZANIA U17
Tanzania have failed to qualify for the 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup this year after losing 3-0 to Uganda Following their second successive defeat, a 3-0 loss to Uganda at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, the Serengeti Boys have failed to reach this year's event in Brazil. After losing 5-4 to Nigeria in a thrilling encounter in their first match on Sunday, Oscar Mirambo's men needed to beat Uganda to remain in the running for a place in the semi-finals. Andrew Kawooya opened the scoring for the Cubs after teaming up with Najib Yiga with a delivery that flashed across goal and squeezed in from a tight angle to the back of the net in the 16th minute. Editors' Picks Lacazette silences Naples and his critics but Ramsey set for Arsenal heartache No Messi, no trophies - Assessing Guardiola's Champions League legacy Why Arsenal may be better off ignoring Umtiti and trusting young defender Mavropanos The most dramatic defeat in football history? Man City go from delirium to despair HIGHLIGHTS .. Uganda U-17 3-0 Tanzania U-17 Group Stage - Matchday 2 - #TotalAFCONU17 pic.twitter.com/5fl0JNAVsB — CAF (@CAF_Online) 17 April 2019 Ivan Asaba doubled Uganda's tally in the 28th minute and Yiga sealed the result with a header 14 minutes from time. The result sees Mirambo's side fail to qualify for the global event as they remain winless and lay bottom of Group A with zero points from two matches. With the win, Uganda now occupies second spot in Group A, three points behind leaders Nigeria who overcame Angola 1-0 in the other game played on Wednesday. Golden Eaglets' win saw them qualify for the World Cup with a game to spare for the record 12th time. Tanzania are not out!
Have you considered that Tanzania, Angola and Uganda can all end up on 3pts? How? Very simple. Nigeria beats Uganda and Tanzania beats Angola. And on who to join Nigeria if we qualify by beating Uganda, head to head cannot separate the 3 teams because if the results play our as I mentioned above all 3 teams would have ended up beating each other. According to CAF rules, results from games involving the 3 teams will be used and if no separation Goals Difference (GD) will be applied and if no separation Goals For (GF) will apply then Number of cautions and finally tossing of the coins. What Tanzania needs to qualify is for them to beat Angola by 5 or more goals margin and Nigeria beats Uganda by 1 or more goals margins. See as the table stands presently: Nigeria 6pts +2GD 6GF Angola 3pts 0GD 1GF Uganda 3pts +2GD 3GF Tanzania 3pts -4GD 4GF Note that Angola are ahead of Uganda due to head to head. If the final game ends Nigeria 1-0 Uganda and Tanzania 5-0 Angola see how the table will stand: Nigeria 9pts +5GD 10GF Tanzania 3pts 1GD 9GF Uganda 3pts 1GD 3GF Angola 3pts -4GD 1GF Under this scenario all 3 of Tanzania, Uganda and Angola are on 3pts and have each beaten each other. Head to Head cannot apply here. If u look at the results involving all 3 teams Tanzania and Uganda will be tied on +2 GD but if you look at Goals Scored in the Group (GF ie Goals For) Tanzania have 9 while Uganda have 3. So Tanzania qualfies. So mathematically and officially Tanzania are not out however, realistically they stand a slim chance. I have also had to explain "Nigeria yet to qualify" to various media houses. These statistical analyses may be confusing but if u you draw up the table and look at all possible results scenarios u will understand it better. All these are due to this generic belief that once u lose your first 2 games u are out and once u win it first two games u are through. Yes, that happens most of the times but not always. A team can win their first two games and still crash out while another team in another group or scenario can lose their first two games and win the 3rd and qualify. |

2special: Nigeria is on 6points,if Angola and Uganda wins their next match they will also be on 6 points.... unless the organizers are using head to head which will favour Nigeria against Angola.....Naturalwaves For Uganda to get 6pts that means they will beat Nigeria meaning they will be ahead of us too on head to head. And remember Angola had already beaten Uganda and so Angola are ahead of Uganda on head to head. Meanwhile Nigeria will be ahead of Angola on head to head So......? |

godspeed: Hello house, I am thinking of spending my annual vacation in Egypt to afford me the opportunity of watching the AFCON and of course see a lot of historical sites.
Icon4s, tbaba1234 and other widely traveled members of the thread, particularly those who were at AFCON 2006, is this a good idea?I mean in terms of things like :
security.
The attitude of the Egyptians towards blacks.
What kind of treatment should I expect if for example Egypt loses to Nigeria at a stage in the tournament
Financial implications, like what kind of budget I should be looking at.
The tourist attractions
Weather e.t.c
Please house, will u strongly advice an average Nigerian to embark on this kind of trip for vacation?
Your contributions will be appreciated.
Regards My brother, as long as u can comfortably afford it go ahead. I have never been to Egypt and it is definitely one place I have always wanted to visit because of its historical significance as an African, a Christian and also one who has interest in History and Archeology. Numerous places to visit during the day as u watch ur AFCON games in the evenings but make sure u Google "tourist sites in Egypt" and their various fees. This will help u plan and maximise ur stay. It will also help u in budgeting. Still talking about costs, the flight ticket is a little more expensive than that of Dubai/Abu Dhabi. I don't know about their hotel prices but u can Google that. June is not too far away so start making ur travel plans now. |

Napoleon55: Nigeria qualifies based on caf's regulations, points in head to head among tied teams are used first before any other tie breaking criteria. Even if uganda and angola both wins their next matches, nigeria qualifies ahead of angola irrespective of their result,as we have 3points against them. And if Uganda beats Nigeria Uganda are ahead of Nigeria on head to head. Meanwhile Angola had already beaten Uganda so Angola are ahead of Uganda on head to head, if Angola also beat Tanzania. This is a loop and in this case head to head will not work. Goals difference are used. And if they are still not separated "Goals For" ie goals scored are used. Look at the bigger picture bro. NIGERIA HAVE NOT QUALIFIED. |

BascoVanVeli: 3-0 FT
Is Tanzania out of the competition? No team is out and no team has qualfied. Though Tanzania have the least chance and Nigeria has the best chance of qualfyiing. Tanzania can still qualify if they beat Angola by up to 2 goals and Nigeria beat Uganda by 4 goal margin. Or the other way round. Nigeria can crash out if we lose to Uganda by 1:0 and Angola beats Tanzania by 2 goal margin. (Here all 3 teams will end up on 6pts, and head to head will not count because they would have each beaten each other and so goals difference will make the difference) NIGERIA ARE NOT THROUGH, WE NEED TO AVOID DEFEAT AGAINST UGANDA. At least a draw will see us through irrespective of the outcome of the game between Tanzania and Angola. Cc: Manu Garba |

If the result ends this way Uganda only need to beat Nigeria 1:0 to qualify. And Nigeria may crash out if Angola beat Tanzania by 2 or more goals. This group is still open |
