We are traveling in May so we need to apply for our destination’s visa (not US) in April. That leaves us with June and July as I am traveling all through August and our IW would expire by September.

Is June/July for IW visible? If yes, do I need to fill DS-160 now to get submission date of June?

if Obi wins this election, he will become the most hated individual in Nigeria within 2 years (6 months actually). Really, it’s easy to talk during campaigns which was what the APC did before winning in 2015. When this guy wins, and he sees the realities on ground, he will be no different. The only place I see Obi making a difference is in managing/ reducing the cost of governance which is good but will make small difference. What we need is huge revenue drive.

Same for Tinubu, I feel Tinubu will do better in terms of revenue drive but Tinubu will have a bloated/ flamboyant government that will make people despise him. It will also reinforce the corruption tag on him. Worse for Tinubu is that the economy is already in shambles so the next three to five years will be economically bad for all Nigerians. People will take out their anger on the sitting president just as we are doing on Buhari now.

This is not the solution. Even if we have local airlines, the airline industry is highly dollarized. They will need dollars for C-checks, maintenance, for some staff (when you employ foreigners), for international operations.

Our problem is a revenue problem, and that’s what govt needs to solve. Blocking funds will reduce investor confidence all through the country and not just in the airline industry.

It started from reducing personal access to USD from $1k per month to nothing now. Govt needs to block leakages (there are people still stealing public funds daily), improve security (especially with oil theft. The oil tanker that was caught in Equatorial Guinea had capacity of 3m barrels. That’s three times all the oil we produce per day. If those guys succeeded, this means in about one week of operation, they will make 300m USD. Imagine that we sell that and it’s not stolen, that’s enough to pay the airlines at least for now. This is one tanker, imagine other tankers that are coming in. Imagine other sources of public funds leakage.

We need to salvage this country, but before then, before the end of this year, arrange your immigration tips, your international flights will be from Cotonou, Lome or Accra.

This is a really tough situation. Nigeria is blocking the repatriation of funds NOT because it wants to damage its reputation or deprive Emirates of its money, but we are really on strings now.

Every USD in the economy has to be scavenged and kept aside to finance importation - both of fuel and food.

Instead of insulting the government, Nigerians now need to be more patriotic in putting up a united front. For now, with the absence of Emirates and soon to be other international airlines, we should actively support our local airlines like Arik Air who are flying international routes and quickly launch Nigerian Air to complement them.

Emirates and by extension IATA should be patient and calm down. They will get their funds in due time, let's fix ourselves first.
