that achebe denigrated a dead man should not make you do the same thing. achebe was clearly bitter about the death toll during the civil war. i was also pissed with some bits in his book but i have forgiven him.
I Love this, I wish we can all do this, but I guess Achebe refused to reason this way. No P, life goes on.

[quote author=BedLam]HOW TO REMAIN POOR..

4} Don't engage in activities usually reserved for the " uneducated "...

How can you a graduate
engage in petty trade or home based production?? That's for people who never went to school.

5} Don't think of starting a business until an angel comes from heaven & give U capital..

@ poster,
You may need to clarify further on point #4. Especially on the definition of 'uneducated'. To me education has nothing to do with your paper certificate. As a matter of fact, there are millions people out there without formal education, hence they are smart and more knowledgeable in money making processes while majority keep deceiving themselves with paper qualifications.
The point am making is that anyone can engage in any activity as long as you properly defined set of goals to achieve from it. With time, You can then apply your education to do it differently. It matter not if you do it in your backyard or your kitchen considering the high rate of unemployment and lack of capital in Nigeria.

Which EFCC? For your information, he will not spend his personal money to fix. You must have forgotten how much was allocated to past presidents in 2012 budget. Even in the absence of that, FG will still take it up.
Anything that happenes to him while alive is still the responsibility of FG.
Phones / Re: Compare Current Call Tarriffs. Airtel, Etisalat, MTN, Glo by ikooko(m): 12:50am On Dec 17, 2012
Fact is there is no network better than Airtel in terms of tariffs and customer service. This have always been their tradition, I have been making calls to all network @ #12/min for 3yrs now, when others were charging btw #18 - #36 p/m.
I just found out also that airtel will soon increase the data size attached to BB plans @ same rate.
With airtel, who care what network you belong to? Just say your number.

Keep shaking your head.I wonder what food you had on your table or the infrastructures in place during IBB and Abacha regimes.
Don't allow hatred overshadow your reasoning,, check out OBJ achievements when he was military head of state and when he became democratic president. Google it yourself.

Until animals like him are brought to justice, nigeria will never make sense, she will continue to spiral into deeper oblivion like she is doing at the moment.

Into the blackhole, because f.oolish peeps are not destined to survive

You're contradicting yourself out of hatred for OBJ. If OBJ is foolish, he wount be president twice. Besides if not for OBJ, your faith in this country will still be subjected to northern oligachy.
Leave hatred and tell us who among our past presidents is more internationally recognised/acceptable/relevant more than OBJ?

Hello guys, hope we doing fine in our various farms?
This is another dry season with its own characteristic challenges for fish farmers. Ie availability of water, temparature etc etc. I also observed that marketing is bad right now, buyers offering btw #180-#250 as against #400-#500 in the last 2months.
Let us compare notes for a sucessful dry season farming.

This man is a great man no doubt. Ordinarily I expected more birthday wishes from all conners but the absense of that is better explained by his trabalism and insult to his elders.
I also believed that his achievements were overated for obvious reasons.
He started well but messed up at the tail end.
All the same, HBD Chinua Achebe, I pray you become redeemable before your time.

cjrane: Achebe spoke the truth. I would have been disappointed if he did not stick to his tradition of speaking what happened,no matter who feels angry that he dared to speak. The truth is the truth even if it took a million years to say it.

In that case, Achebe should acknowledge also that Ojukwu arrogantly led his people to be slaughtered senselesly.

Onlytruth:

Mister man sharap dia! Ndigbo don't really argue, honest to God! undecided Achebe was not arguing with anyone when he wrote his memoir.
Most of Igbo arguing with you online are those with time on their hands.
Majority of NdiIgbo are very busy, and have already made up their minds about what happened (like Achebe). They are also ready for anyone in Nigeria.
For the first time in many years, Ndigbo have decided to return from unproductive parts of Nigeria like the North and have settled in the East more.
Only foolish Igbo still invest in Lagos, but even those are the ones ready to give you the fight of your lives should you try any nonsense in Lagos. wink
Am sure you have read many accounts of the biafran war yet you fail to realize you don't stay in your enemy's territory and still run your mouth. Given the present situation, no wise igboman will attempt any territorial fight in lagos. Besides Fashola has a legal way of resettling you back to your state.
I just hope you have changed your car's plate number to start with before lastma start arresting you.

realborn: Shocking inappropriate comments pals.

Irrespective of what Achebe has said, we can exude our intellectual girth without the tantrums and tribalized opinions.

Whilst I concur that the highly respected Prof Achebe should not cast aspersions overtly or covertly at the legendary Papa Awolowo, I however would not be quick to derogate his hard earned reputation on the platform of utterances credited to him on this subject. Astute and civil arguments are in order, but hateful and distasteful word daggers are unnecessary
That is my disappointment with prof. Even if his intension is noble the approach is flawed. In the first instance every actor in the war should be properly appraised before passing blames, and secondly there are better approaches to addressing such national issues by an elder stateman.
Well Pa Awolowo's actions was inevitable during the war and by his antecedent I have no doubt that he would have apologized to igbo people if he were still alive today but I have not read anywhere that Ojukwu accepted and apologized to his people for leading them to the war he knew he can't win despite that he lived several years after the war.

bashr8: simple and that weakness and smartness of awolowo is what achebe is exposing so everyone can analyse. if we must move foward then we must stop idolizing evil people and politicians both past and present.
Do you imagine Awo took the advantage at a political rally or at a business meeting? No, he did at wartime. If Ojukwu with his arogancy and penchant for war has such opportunity he will do worst than Awo to achieve biafran republic.
My point is, IF achebe must blame at all, he should start with Ojukwu for not doing his home work thoroughly, afterall Awo wouldn't have taken such decision if there was no war. Do you imagine WAR to be child's play?

Going by this book, one may not be too far from truth to conclude that the hidden reason why Achebe refused CFR award was not because of curruption in the country per se but for his commitment to biafran and bitterness of biafran war.
IMO I expected prof. Chinua Achebe as an old man to be an ambassodor of peace in this country, look critically at both sides of the coin and apply blame appropriately but not taking sides.
But if biafra really wants to be sovereign, they should apply the legal options available within the interational laws. All this holier than thou, I better pass my neighbor will take them nowhere.

Whatever the fact is, my igbo people will forever hate Awolowo for what he did no doubt but let us leave sentiments aside and answer this simple question: was Obafemi Awolowo more guity for his role in biafran war than Ojukwu the warlord?
IMO,Awolowo was just smart to identify the weakness (loophole)of Ojukwu and he used it, simple.
If Achebe called Awolowo greedy and a mass muderer, what would he call Ojukwu without been bias?
