Do you have evidence to back up these claims? |
luluosas: That is the issue. Since it is factory unlocked, it should be readily available from every service providers as this will ultimately boost Nokia spread easily. Think about this! Thank you.I dont that arguement count much really. Except you dont like MTN abd the fact that Nigeria as it is... There actually a big advantage of economy of scale provided by MTN that can not be adequately matched by any other vendor in Nigeria. MTN can buy cheaper due to volume and sell at a price advantage than any other provider. As they seem to be selling the phone unlocked, this would actually help to make it penetrate the market much better than let's say GLO. The price for the L920 is quite cheap compare to the price charged here where I live or even the UK. Only the L820 is much pricier than we have here. |
mr.drizzy:You yourself have not be neutral. There is more than Google in the mobile world. Neither Google nor Apple are the Alpha and Omega. Igba kan nlo, igba kan nbo l'aiye yi o. If there is any OEM taking Android to new height, it has been Samsung. Not Motorola, not LG or the host of them. Samsung has brought a lot of the things we used to take for granted like hand writing recognition in the days of windows mobile and Palm OS. The iPhone phenomenal destroyed all that. Now, non of this finger friendly Smartphones allow for the use of stylus except the Note brand of Samsung. Despite all the finger friendliness of the modern displays, there are times I wished I could have my Stylus back. Anyway, let me just quit whining about the good old smartphone era, when we were a small gadget freaky elite. Now, every dick and harry has a smartphone. |
luluosas: The fact that the pre-order is exclusive to MTN only makes it a bad market for Nokia. Its like they are not yet ready to fit into the growing competition in the Smart phone segment of the economy. I can't imagine an unlocked phone/device to be tied to a single service provider (MTN) where there are others on the line.Tied to MTN means that MTN has the exclusive right to market the phones for 3 months. You subsequently will be able to buy them from different vendors after this period. Since the phones are not sim- or netlocked, it's actually no biggie. Buy from MTN and use it with the Network of your choice. |
hercules07: I would rather they built world class facility that will be tolled than the nonsense we are putting up with, let the lawyer test the legality of this contract, it will help the government in the future. That is very correct! |
geez*:Haha, eyin omode wonyi, kilode? E ko le jiyan lai ma s'epe abi ki e bura yin ni? E lo sinmi edo jare. |
geez*:You are right here. However, you should not have called the lawyer a hungry lawyer. He has a grievance and has taken the approiprate measure. That does not make him hungry nor notice me. People should be encouraged to go along the same route if they have grievances with their govt or co-citizens. |
The people abusing Fashola could have done like this lawyer and sue him. Methink the premise on which the case is built is partly faulty. The poor people that he is showcasing dont even have a vehicle to begin with. Besides, he can not be an advocate for the Federal Govt. The Fed that has authority over the waters has not complained about the illegality of the project. Since this particular project did not start yesterday, why is it occuring to him now that the LASG has no power to build a bridge over the creek. It would be a big joke if he wins all counts he pressing against the LASG. And for those who think you can not toll a road built with public fund, I say: Yes you can. The only thing that I'd support is the reduction in the fees and the introduction of monthly, quarterly and yearly Vignette which actually is the international standard. This infrastructure must be maintained and new ones built! |

Well, just the Nations of China and India have like 2.5 billion people. And you still have high population countries like Indonesia 0.3 million, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh a.s.f. |
Hon. Lord: This is definitely not the fruit refered to as FIG. Fig is called AJARA and the fruit ESO AJARA in Yoruba. The cherry that people call it is only true for Nigeria. Outside Nigeria, no English Speaker would tell you that is a cherry. We used to have a cherry tree in our garden here where I live. To know how fig or cherry fruits look like, make a search in google picture. |
Abeokuta and Ibadan have a very rare beauty, but i agree, the tin roofs have to go. Idk why it's so difficult to ban them in nigeria the health implications alone are tremendous. Our average life expectancy would just 5 years easily. Most people drink water that trickles from their rusty roofs during rain. You can't boil out the toxic elements in rust because they're not biological, they're chemical, so in all reality the people of these cities are drinking toxic chemicals regularly and we're wondering why people fall ill so often in Nigeria
Not only Abeokuta and Ibadan my dear. A lot of the cities and towns in Yorubaland have a very unique charm. I just love Ekiti towns especially. All we need is just facelifting all these infrastructures. Nigeria has got great touristic potentials. |
I doubt the statistics. I have been to part of the state. I do not think that some Lagosians (they are practically no more Lagosians in the real sense) live there explains the difference to other States. That apart, Abeokuta is quite a serene city with a good mix of old and young infrastructures. Nevertheless, I believe you should visit Nigeria first hand to see things for yourself. I bet you will be schocked at first sight, but you wont want to miss the fun of the lawlessness of that Nigeria once you get used to it. And you will get used to it faster than you think. |
O ga gan o. They should be promoted for doing an "excellent" job they are paid to do? They should be promoted to encourage them to do the job they are paid to do? And should they be relieved of their hitherto promotions because they did not do the work they were being paid to do? |

HNosegbe: The last point on the informal economy is a valid one. Many Nigerian small-scale, street corner businesses are not captured in our GDP computations, because we have not been able to accurately measure them and integrate them into the mainstream economy. That is why I respect economists like Hernando de Soto who have done a lot of work with regard to the value of the informal economy and how countries can leverage on the vast potential contained therein. We are saying the same thing! Maybe I was not able to put it better in English. I would have been able to explain it better in German, but how many people understand German on this forum? The Gini coefficient adjusted GDP per Capital as I said is a very good measure of the Spread of wealth in the population. However, the title of this post says "...Measure of Economic Growth". The Gini coefficent handles only the aspect of Inequality but does not say anything about growth. A very important determinant of Growth - not Wealth - remains the change in GDP. |
obitwo: Of course everyone knows that the SW is the most densely populated regionThat is not true. The most densely populated region in Nigeria remains the socalled South East. Population density is a function of the population of a place in relation to the size of the landmass. The geographical size of the Southeast is relatively small in relation to their population. |
Why are people not forming interest groups and going to court to challenge this silly thing? |
HNosegbe: I think the OP is trying to say that GDP is a poor measure of overall economic well-being of the average citizen, and I agree with him. GDP figures don't tell us how well an INDIVIDUAL is doing. That's why the average Nigerian can hardly feed himself and his family or get a good job, while the economy is "growing" at over six percent. And that is the reason you also have GDP per Capital to determine the wealth of a country per head. This can also be complimented with the gdp per capital offset with the PPP (purchasing power parity) to determine the REAL value of the per Capital income of a country. A still better indicator of the wellbeing of a country's population is the Gini's coefficient of the per Capital gdp. It determines the SPREAD of Wealth within the population. So you see, the GDP is a recognized measure of economic development of a country. Aside the GDP, there are also other refined economic indicators. It is therefore not farfetched using the GDP and the GDP growth rate to determine the level of economic activities in a country. The problem with Nigeria is however the very big shadow ecomony that is not considered in the Statistics i.e. the rampart unregistered petty trading and businesses. |
CrazyMan: There are two options for this act....its either his wife is more successful than he is, thereby making life miserable for him, or he's a widower...cos no sane man would engage in such.Your 2 options are no options at all. My father, - oma Ilaje ogeemoni, agbe inoko ghan ewa. Ilaje oma imalokun, imalokun agbabu... - ki Eledumare fi orun ke won, used to do that with our last born child, and that was in the Seventies. He was the bread winner of the house. So you see, it is not a new thing. There has always been men who do take care of their children without having to loose their manhood. There is and has been many a good example of men like that in my lineage. Ilaje ghan, a s'eniyan jare! |

vanunu: What of Tibet and Taiwan?Tibetans are not Han Chinese. Their land is being occupied by China. Taiwanese are Chinese. I have met some and none except the aboriginal Formosans would ever tell you they are not Chinese. The problem between China PR and Taiwan Republic of China is an idealogical one. However, I got what you trying to get at. He must have met a lot Xhinese to conclude that Chinese people dont tell you their regions. Despite the state clamp down on such controversial thematics, yet the Chinese would still tell you if they are Han Chinese or if they are Mongols, Igurians etc. He is dead wrong on that assumption. Even Indians do tell if they are Tamil, Punjabi, Bengals, Sinhalese etc. A good country dont suppress the identities of it people in order to archieve unity. To archieve unity, we must accept our differences and respect these differences. That is the way forward. |
