Remii: I don't know how this could have effect in far away Lagos. Scientifically, hurricanes that hit US gulf coast starts like small whirl winds in West African and gather speed as they move towards the Americas. Winds are one way traffic including there effects such as ocean surge and the rest, so it will be difficult to expect backlash at the source. For tsunamis that occur as a result of underwater earthquakes, it is understandable if effect is felt in all direction around the source depending on magnitude. Maybe LASG can elaborate further on explanation of their warning.
Aburo, ori e pe jare. A very sensible explanation. Soki l'obe oge, kii dun ko po rara. You hammered the isho on the head precisely.

Freudian ( Frodian) slip is the inadvertent expression of the subconscious mind in place of the real situation. It's a common phenomenon in speech making.. Olodo!
There was no Professor Freudian, but Sigmund Freud, the father of Psychology.

Hate is everywhere irrespective of colour... The Allu people that burnt student alive, are they not black people like you? Because Allu people burnt some student alive, is it now right for me to conclude that people from Rivers State are evil?

Just as there are KKKs(senseless thugs), there are other white people that have dedicated their lives towards making humanity better......

TravelRe: Few Nigerians Work As Cabin-Crew On International Airlines? by Ilaje44(m): 6:18pm On Oct 13, 2012
esere826: @ OP

Interestingly, none of the contributors to this thread (who probably are all nigerians) seem to have mentioned any direct or far distant stories of friends, relations etc actually applying for cabin foreign crew jobs in the first place.
This means we might be able to safely rule out issues of racial bias or trust factors for the time being

I suspect it has something to do with the job being played out in the air

It would also be interesting to know the state of Nigerian employee figures in the international maritime industry. I am aware that quite a number of Nigerians don't like mami water experiences either
On the contrary, there are Ilaje people on the fishing trawlers in Spain I suppose. There are a lot of them in that part of Europe doing what they learn to do from infancy - fishing fishes. Ilaje and Ijaw people are not water scared folks. The ones that fear water are mostly " awon Ara-oke". On the air thing, I believe the service orientation of an average Nigerian, especially those ones not exposed to what is called "service" could explain why they are less considered for the job aside security concerns. Stewarding / hosting requires profesional friendly manners. If you have experienced service in Nigeria and some other places of the world, you would know that on average, you do not get quality for your money in Nigeria. Nigeria is a desert place regarding professional occupational politeness. Thats my view!

PoliticsRe: Why Nigerians Ridicule Nigeria by Ilaje44(m): 6:11pm On Aug 15, 2012
baqina: It depends on how you look at it.

In terms of corruption,Nigeria can not be compared to the likes of India, Thailand etc.

How do you mean it? You wanna say those two countries are more corrupt than Nigeria? Ever since Transparency International has been listing countries in corruptions rankings, Nigeria has never beat these 2 countries. Beside, there seems to be development in these two countries. Their infrastructural and industrial development outpaces that of Nigeria many fold. Their human development index is also far better than that of Nigeria.

Armed robbery and insecurity, we have countries like South Africa topping the charts. So many nigerians have been killed in the US and UK by robbers and teenage rascals.

Typical Nigerian, unfounded statistics. In Nigeria, there are a lot of no go areas you asked to avoid when it is dark. Let us asume you are right, in most cases of the juvenile criminalities, the culprits are always apprehended. In Nigeria, it is hardly so. Even if the police apprehend anyone, the possibility that they would let the offender go after the exchange of Naira is very high. And dont let us go into deliberate wrong accusatiions. A lot of people are maimed and killed in Nigeria and no government take statistics of it. Life is just worthless in Nigeria.

Education, we might not have d best education systems but the products of our institutions are among the best in the world with Nigerians being d most educated group in UK and USA. The highest I paid as undergraduate was #15,000 as school fees and with that I just used it to gain admission to 2 universities in the Uk, I was even thinking they would ask mi to start from Pre masters level.

The best in the world you say? On paper or practically? But I am not seeing the result of the cleverness of these Nigerians. Maybe, their smartness is just to wrongfully amass wealth. Who knows?

Health, some people think our hospital is a shame but the president of Ghana died after being discharged from American hospital, Stella Obasanjo died in Spanish hospital,A crown prince of Saudi Arabia recently died in German hospital, Michael Jackson died of overdose prescribed by an American doctor etc.

Forget that Michael Jackson case, it is not the failure of the system but that of an individual. Doctors are not magicians you know, there a limit to their knowledge too. However, if you have an emergency and a clinic, hospital rejects you on the ground of not having money, I can assure you that they will dearly pay for it in many of the countries you have listed.

In America and Uk, we have citizens of this countries feeding from the trash cans and some homeless and jobless.I have never seen or heard of anybody combining 2 or 3 jobs to survive in Nigeria.

Hear yourself! Because you have not heard mean it does not exist abi? I have lived at a time when Nigeria was still a little sane and I have experienced the crazy years too. I can not believe you have not heard of school teachers for instance taking selling provisions to make ends meet. Many people indeed have many jobs in Nigeria. Yoruba people have a saying that: Ona kan ko wo 'ja, lo d'ifa fun Taylor to nta eko. It is not limited to a Tailor, but a great majority of Nigerians have to do several jobs to survive. You should really stop playing the stale card of I dont see, I dont hear and I dont say.

For those crying foul, Nigeria owe us nothing, it is we Nigerians dt owe her something and gratitude to God for making us Nigerians. For those that care to know, a lot of foreigners are turning Nigerians daily.

I am in no way grateful to be a Nigerian, because I have done to Nigeria more than Nigeria has given me. It saddens me a lot when I think about the wasted potentials of that country.

I love my country and am proud to be a Nigerian.
I love Nigeria, but it is really very difficult to be proud of that country. How can I be proud of FAILURE? I hope this sleepy GIANT wakes up from it deep slumber. I am less optimistic in this regard though, because the young ones that are calling the elderly thieves are even more kleptomanic than the old ones. For they would like to ride HUMMER JEEP, FERARRI, LAMBOGHINI, MASERATI etc. without SWEATING. Nigeria a highly disorganized and corrupt country, and it not only the politicians that are so even though a lot of people blame them for that. We need a revolution in that den of thieves.

Dont let anybody deceive you, those 2 countries a far more developed than Nigeria. You can not compare Alepo the biggest city in Syria to Lagos and neither their capital city Damascus to Abuja. It is a WORLD apart. BTW, Syria is not an OPEC country. The advantages they have over Nigeria is that they are a very OLD country and their population is ca. ten times less than that of Nigeria. Besides, they are not as diverse ethnically as Nigeria.

As a matter of fact, Damascus, Bagdad, Alepo etc. are some of the oldest places continously inhabited by human beings in the world. Igimu jina sori o jare.

We dont need to pray for Nigeria. If we put in our efort for Nigeria to work, it would surprise you that that will be more effective than wasting our times praying. A lot of people in Nigeria without bias or favour need to be taken to the firing range and summarily executed.

FSU: Have you ever seen an Hausa-Fulani Artisan?

I have not seen a:

Carpenter
Mason
Electrician
Vulcanizer
Motor/motocycle mechanic
Bicycle repairer
Radio/TV repairer
Shoe repairer
Battery charger
Not to mention a computer mechanic

of Hausa-Fulani origin?

As against:

Suya seller
Gatemen
Shoe shiner
Crop farmer
Cattle herder
Fetcher of water

Where they predominate?

Is there a correlation between culture and religion and the type of vocation that an average Hausa-Fulani pursues? It seems like trades that have to do with the ''West'' are not appealing to them. Or is it a matter of limits to their innate vocational skill?
Have you been to Hausaland and not seen them repair their honda cars themselves? Or is it your people that help them to build and maintain their houses? I think you should travel to Kano, Bauchi, Sakoto, Daura, Kaura Namoda, Malumfashi etc. to deepen your research.

maimalari: In addition, the Nigerian government knows those throwing those bombs here and there; the intelligent agencies know them, but they believe that touching them would cause problems, so no one is doing any thing, as long as they are bombing human beings and not pipelines. Any day these terrorists touches an oil pipeline, that would be the end of the group and their bombs. In Nigeria, a drop of oil is worth more than five liters of blood, because blood does not swell bank accounts of our corrupt politicians, who happened to steal themselves to power. If MEND changes plans today and starts bombing human beings instead of pipelines, JTF would die a natural death. Nigeria is not a country, it is a theater of macabre dance, where there are no rules, every body displays his/her skills in any style or form he/she is comfortable with. No restrictions no regulations.
God bless and save poor Nigerian masses, whether in the north or south.
This is a very intelligent disection of the Nigerian "malade". Godfatherism or the politics of Untouchables is part of what is causing the Nigerian sickness.

He does not need to do it. You can do that yourself. Google will help you with your browser and a fast internet connection. Just go to http://maps.google.com and navigate to Nigeria, zoom in on Abuja and change from topographic to satellite view and voila, you can see Aso villa. I have to warn you though that Nigeria hasn't got a very detailed map, therefore, dont expect the same detailed resolution you would get in the developed countries.

@All who are getting too excited and yabbing Yorubas because of a sectional satellite views of Ibadan and Akure should please use their intelligence. Many Towns in Yorubaland have been populated before the colonialists came around. The planning of Enugu and Aba were done during the colonial time. There are well planned areas in Ibadan too. If you want to see more detailed map of Nigeria, you really dont need the google earth standalone program, you can do it with your browser. Just navigate to http://maps.google.com/. Scroll to the map of Nigeria and change to "satellite view". You can see detail maps of major Nigerian settlements.
PoliticsRe: How Did Lagos Cope Before The Construction Of Third Mainland Bridge by Ilaje44(m): 8:39pm On Jul 11, 2012
Kobojunkie: Lagos was also not as populated as you have it today. Pre-third mainland bridge, the population was still in the 1-3 million range. And not a lot of motorists on the roads as we had LSTC, way for efficient than what you have today, back then. Molues gained popularity in the late 80's/early 90's when LSTC developed serious issues due mostly to the change in regimes and lack of effective funding and maintenance.
During the time of LSTC or before during LMTS, there was BOLEKAJA for the poor folks. MOLUE ushered in the demise of the BOLEKAJA. We also had AKOYOYO (Ware transporters).

As had been said, there were fewer people, less vehicles, and most especially, there was some ORDERliness. Babangida changed all that!

TravelRe: Dana Crash: Delayed Rescue Operation Wasted Lives – Residents by Ilaje44(m): 12:54pm On Jun 04, 2012
salakobaba: IF help had come early, the over140 persons, who died in the Dana commercial air plane crash at Iju, Lagos, yesterday might have saved, residents have said.
According to them, the aircraft did not explode immediately it crashed. It exploded after about20 minutes.
An eyewitness said the incident happened between 3pm and 4pm.
Narrating how the crash happened, an eyewitness, who claimed anonymity noted that the aircraft was seen swinging before it eventually landed ona newly constructed storey building.
‘’I was here with my wife and other people when we saw the plane moving around in random directions. Initially wewere confused, but when it was getting usually close to the rooftop of the houses around, we stood up and traced were it eventually landed,’’ he noted.
Continuing, the eyewitness said, ‘’When we go to the scene, we saw the plane on the building and it did not explode upon landing. The only fire from the aircraft was from the cockpit which was not much. It was only ten of us that first got to the scene. That little fire would have been quenchable if there was immediate emergency responsefrom fire fighters. Wewere even using sachets of pure water to put off the fire before we heard loud explosion after 20 minutes.’’
It was further gathered that the absence of emergency responsefrom concerned authorities, promptedone of the eyewitnesses at the scene to call the Chairperson of Local the Government, whoinformed the Lagos State Government.
‘’When we discovered that emergency rescue service was not on sight, my wife had to call the chairperson of the local government, who informed Fashola’s people. It was that call that altered the authorities. But if therescue service had arrived on time, theywould have been saved because therewas no fire when theplane landed on the buildings. The pilot ofthe aircraft was verybrave because we noticed it from the way the aircraft was swinging before it crashed,’’ another eye said.
What could have turned into another tragedy, occurred when the men of the Nigerian Army started dispersing sympathisers at the scene when they arrived. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/delayed-rescue-operation-wasted-lives-residents/
I think it is about time NIGERIANS start using their sense. Ahahaaa! Does this story appear logical? Haa, wahala Naijiriya sese bere! No sense, no break, no jam... jorojarajoro.

afrobaby: 20 minutes, why didnt the pilot open d door or even window for passengers to jump out since it was already on a building, why didnt the residents of the building run, oh my God, what a country we are
Hear yourself, does it make sense to you?
