PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Exposes The Hypocrisy Of Yoruba Race by Ilaje44(m): 4:53pm On May 29, 2012
And this your opinion is what the clueluess advicers of a brainless administration fail to realize. BTW, you are not alone with this your opinion.
Eziachi: You made some good points that required good attention but this is not about Abiola as person in my opinion. The biggest stakeholder of any institution like UNILAG are the students and the school management, I wonder how much they were told about renaming their university before hand?

Most people send their children to a certain school because of the brand name of the institution, my son/daughter both went to Cambridge University and I can tell you you that it cost me a lot to send them there because I wanted them to have the name Cambridge on their CVs because it worth a lot. I am sure that is the intention of my parent that sent their lot to UNILAG
My children possibly, may not have got the kind of Jobs they got after their studies, if they don't have their alumni as Cambridge. So if tomorrow they learned that they are no longer graduates of Cambridge but some John Major University, its not going to be funny and whoever did it will be over-washed with law suits.
And it got nothing to do with Mr Major as a person or his achievements in life or merit. This is the point of the argument, the issue is neither about Abiola nor Yoruba people. That is my opinion.

Beaf: Na wa o! Many things in this dear country of ours freak one out.
I for one do not believe there is any hypocrisy in the Yoruba for kicking against the name change. It is wrong to tar people with a general brush.

Beyond that, the fact remains that the demonstrations are a political exigency to save face by those politicians who feel caught out by GEJ's action. Afterall, lagos is an ACN state and as a bigoted party, it is embarrassing to them.

Funny stuff!

Your PDP is most guilty of what you are trying to accuse ACN of. Why UNILAG? What did Abiola contribute to the development of university education or even UNILAG as an institution, that that brainless id.iot with his clueless advisers have to name the School after Abiola? Why is he celebrating democracy and at the same time promoting autocracy? JONATHAN is a big disgrace to fishermen like myself.

He does not deserve an institution of higher learning named after him.

ifihearam: What is wrong with all those protesting? Is their fathers the owner of the school? Are they the ones that will tell the president what and when and how to name a school? Wether they protest from now till nightfall nothing can be done to reverse or rescind the decision of the president.
And if they persist they will be arrested and heaven will not fall
A very pathetic opinion. If their fathers are not the owner of the institution, which is untrue, does that give GEJ any right to abuse our democracy? I am a diehard Abiola fan, I voted for him on that faithful June 12, and I believe he should be immortalized, however not in such a dumb and autocratic way.

There is a Professor on STV right now that is very mad at the President's decision to make such a change without consulting the school's senate. They are mourning the past VC at the moment with the burial scheduled for Thursday. GEJ needs to consult with stakeholders before making decisions that affect them. This is DEMOCRACY!!!
If he did not consult them, I would advice the school to take the matter to the court (proper court of law where there is no volontary AMEN, but a mandatory MY LORD) with immediate alacriciousity. Goodluck, o rindin sha. A DemonCraze!

Nevertheless, I recognize the Govt immortalizing MKO. It would have been sweet if done democratically. I have never called Goodluck names before, but I mean how can somebody be so daft?

Nothing wrong with being abroad as a Nigerian woman. However, your friend should be mindful of the circle of friends she keeps. She should rather go for the middle way. PoliticsRe: Court Tells Falana...you Cant Challenge Nass' JUMBO PAY by Ilaje44(m): 9:52pm On May 23, 2012
Gabsreal: www.channelstv.com/home/2012/05/23/court-says-falana-has-no-right-to-challenge-lawmakers-jumbo-pay/

A Federal High Court on Tuesday ruled that lawyer and Human Rights activist, Femi Falana lacks the locus standi to challenge the powers of Federal lawmakers to award jumbo salaries and allowances to themselves. Mr Falana had filed a case challenging
the members of the National
Assembly of fixing scandalous
emoluments for themselves in August
2010.
In the substantive suit Mr Falana sought a declaratory relief to the
effect that the members of the
National Assembly are not entitled to
receive any payment outside the
salaries and allowances determined
and fixed for them by the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation
Commission (RMAFC) pursuant to
Section 70 of the Constitution. In support of the originating
summons, Mr Falana accused the
Legislators of usurping the
Constitutional powers of the RMFAC by
taking advantage of passing
Appropriation Bills into law to rank themselves the highest paid
lawmakers in the world. While relying on the case of
Fawehinmi V The President (2008)23
WRN 65 Mr Falana urged the court to
appreciate that the anachronistic
doctrine of locus standi was discarded
by the Court of Appeal when it declared illegal and unconstitutional
the payment of salaries of two
Ministers in dollars. The plaintiff also submitted that his
legal standing to promote good
governance has been constitutionally
guaranteed. In opposing the suit, the Attorney-
General of the Federation and the
National Assembly through their
counsels, Alex Izion and Kenneth
Ikonne respectively, challenged the
locus standi of Mr Falana to question the salaries and allowances of the
Federal Lawmakers. The defendants’ lawyers described Mr
Falana as a busy body who has not
shown that his personal interest has
been affected by the jumbo pay of the
legislators. They therefore urged the trial court to
dismiss the case on the authority of
Abraham Adesanya V The President
(1981) All NLR pg 1. Both the RMFAC
and the Accountants who were joined
in the action did not defend the suit. In his judgment, the presiding judge,
Justice Ibrahim Auta, held that Mr
Falana lacked the locus standi to
institute the case as he did not prove
that he had suffered any greater
injury than other Nigerian citizens as a result of the action of the
lawmakers.
However, in striking out the suit the
Judge said Mr Falana ought to have
complained to the RMFAC and that if
the body failed to act he could then
sue to compel it to carry out its duty
under the Constitution. Reacting to the judgment, Mr Falana
said he would study the judgment and
then decide whether to lodge a
complaint with the RMAFC on the
illegal jumbo pay or challenge the
judgment on appeal since the learned Chief Judge of the Federal High Court
conceded that it is the constitutional
duty of the RMFAC to determine and
fix the salaries and allowances of the
legislators. The reliefs sought by the plaintiff in
the suit were: 1. A DECLARATION that the 1st and
2nd Defendants are entitled to receive
such salaries and allowances
determined by the 3rd Defendant
pursuant to Section 70 of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. 2. A DECLARATION that the allowances
provided for the members of the
National Assembly in the
Appropriation Act, 2010 are illegal,
unconstitutional, null and void by
virtue of Section 70 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, 1999. 3. A DECLARATION that the 1st and
2nd Defendants are not competent to
increase the salaries and allowances
of members of the National Assembly
through the Appropriation Act in any
manner whatsoever and howsoever. 4. A DECLARATION that the President
of the Senate or the Speaker of the
House of Representatives is entitled
to not more than the following six
vehicles:
(i) 2 official cars (ii) 1 Pilot
(iii) 1 Protocol Press
(iv) 1 Ambulance
(v) 1 Security 5. A DECLARATION that apart from the
Senate President and the Speaker of
the House of Representatives, no
other member of the National
Assembly is entitled to an official car. 6. AN ORDER of PERPETUAL
INJUNCTION restraining the 4th and
5th Defendants, their agents, privies
and servants from further paying
unauthorized salaries and allowances
to members of the National Assembly. 7. AN ORDER directing the 4th & 5th
Defendants to deduct and pay into the
Consolidated Revenue Fund of the
Federation the unauthorized salaries
and allowances received by members
of the National Assembly since May 29, 2007. 8. AN ORDER directing the 4th and 5th
Defendants to retrieve all official cars
from members of the 1st and 2nd
Defendants apart from the Senate
President and the Speaker of the
House of Representatives sell them and pay the proceeds to the
Consolidation Revenue Fund of the
Federation forthwith.
How is it difficult to proof that personal interest is being "negatively" affected through the superflous and unmerited increase of the legislative financial packages? Maybe "ALL n SUNDRY" Nigerians have to institute legal actions against the government to convince them that the miuse of funds by these Thiefarians is negatively impacting our private and public personal interests as citizen of Nigeria.

Logic Mind: No sir.
Those are the symptoms of the disease.
The cause is almagamation of diverses nations into one useless country called nigeria.
We need to de-amalgamate to get better.
You meant without amalgamation, we would not have been in this mess? Perhaps not! However on the other hand, I am quite confident that without amalgamation, we would probably have had the same problem. Both the Northern and Southern Niger Protectorates were not at all homogenous entities. The best way forward is not disintegration. It should be the last option. We as humans should be in a position to learn. The Europeans are giving good examples. Amalgamation is not the cause of the woes... Before amalgamating, villages were fighting villages and using the SKULLs of their killed enemies to drink palmwine. The problem is inherent in our AFRICAN/NIGERIAN mentalities, which is still majorly at a very primitive level.

And the CAUSE of the disease among others are the followings:

Lack of vision on the part of the leaders
Lack of proper education of the Nigerian populace
Lack of proper enlightenment of the general Nigerian populace
Religious overzealotry
Misplaced priorities
The worship of material riches
Selfishness

Sweetlemon: ak47mann, Onlytruth, and Logic mind. from your recent posts it's obvious you guys do not understand my message here. Or maybe you underate me because I'm just a young woman? Ok, let me summarise my msg here:
WE SHOULD NOT FIGHT OURSELVES BUT OPEN OUR EYES TO SEE THAT IT IS THE LEADERS WHO HAVE PUT SO MUCH HATE IN US THAT WE SHOULD BE DIRECTING OUR ANGER AT AND NOT OURSELVES. BOKO HARAM IS FUNDED BY POLITICIANS SAME WAY MEND AND MASSOB AND WHATEVER MILLIATNT GROUP ARE POLITICAL. FIGHT THE DISEASE AND NOT THE SYMPTOMS! AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT, LET US WORK ON OURSELVES. MOST NIGERIANS ARE NATURALLY SELFISH AND THAT IS WHAT GAVE BIRTH TO CORRUPTION! LET US WORK ON THIS BECAUSE THIS SAME PROBLEMS WILL COME TO HAUNT US IN OUR NEW COUNTRIES. And that is the bitter truth.
Young lady, I do not think some leaders have access to remote control that they use to control the populace. Human beings are inherently abhorent to what "perceivably" does not belong to their GROUP. It is the most primitive nature of man to be so. Africans in their majority are still very primitive in their thinking, and thats why they never think there is bigger opportunities in a UNION. Your reasoning is not bad at all, but it is very wrong in the context of Nigeria, because not so many are of your opinion. You just have to enlighten them more, perhaps, they will learn, especially those who THINK they are fighting for God (which ever way either through bombs or tithes).

The problem of AFRICANs not only Nigerians as you wrote and also in my opinion definitely is selfishness. If we would think about the collective benefit of using our wealth for the purposes that they were budgeted for, there would be less corruption. Their is a saying in Yoruba that goes thus: Irorun eku ni irorun eiye. When the bird is at ease, so is also the mouse/rat. If we would realize that the more people that benefit from the collective wealth, the less they are likely to go into criminality, it would go a long way in building a solid foundation for a prosperous country. Nigerians must learn that it is good for all to spread the wealth.

BTW, I do not believe it is only the leaders that are at fault. Methink the followers are equally part of the blame too.
PoliticsRe: Please Nigerians!!!!!!!!!!! by Ilaje44(m): 9:08am On May 21, 2012
Logic Mind: All countries in europe has at one time or another fought for independence from other nations that wanted to dominate them. When they finally came to their senses, they decided to remain independent countries but cooperating willingly with each other.
Nigeria is made up of nations cooperating forcefully with each other. It has not worked. It is not working. It will never work.

That is not true. There have been EMPIRES in Europe that were made up of many NATIONS (Ethnicities) that after losing battle disintegrated, and were either absorbed by others or where some of the ethnic components were powerful enough, became independent countries of their own. The persons that dominated had been the MONARCH and the feudal LORDS, and a class of Aristocrats with limited numbers. The French revolution paved the way for the modern State as we know it today. Prior to that, the wars of the Empires have been fought by Soldiers, who by the way were "hired" to "kill" by these Empires. They were likely not even a citizen of their soldiering empires. You can not as such say all European countries fought war of independence at one time or the other. For instance, when the old Soviet Union disintegrated, not a shot was fired except perhaps in the Russia Federations proper. Luckily, history has shown that there could be a "relative" bloodless disintegration. The way Nigeria is lavishly spending more than she earns without commensurate results, might lead for instance to a possible disintegration of that Country. Nevertheless, it would still be bloody, because Africans are barbarians if you ask me. Nigerians speaks mostly the language of violence. Irrespective of ethnicity, there will be a lot of Soldiers of fortune that would like to feed on the carcass of Nigeria whatever the cost. And they would not shy away from using lethal force. Liberia and Sierra Leone are prime examples of the evil soldiers of fortune can wreck on the society. Though you may argue we are not like them, but we sure are.
PoliticsRe: Please Nigerians!!!!!!!!!!! by Ilaje44(m): 11:00pm On May 20, 2012
Logic Mind: You refuse to answer my questions but I will answer yours.
Me and my family will make sure the enemies of Biafra die instead in your bloody war.
We in Biafra will hold our biafran leaders accountable because we all, including any opposition, are biafrans, instead of supporting corrupt people because they are from our region which is what is happening in nigeria now. Yes I am 100% sure of that.
Oh, I do see things from the point of view of other and it's a pity that your point of view is keeping the status quo which is not benefiting any region.

South Korea
India
Even pakistan is better than nigeria
Austria
Northern france
Scotland
Ireland
Vietnam
U.S.A.
Algeria
Russia
Ukraine
Lithuania

BTW, not that I share your sentiments on the absolute side, but to put those who always fear the bloody aftermath, and the economic chaos thereafter of a disintigrated Nigeria, and often come up with the arguement that no Nations have been better after fighting a war of independence, I say here you go: Authentic NATIONS that have fared well after winning their War of Independence are those countries above and these ones below:

Slovenia (from Serbian dominance)
Croatia (from Serbian dominance)
Bosnia i Herzegovina (from Serbia dominance)
even Kosovo (From Serbia dominance)
Indonesia (Independent from the Netherlands)
Brazil (Independent from Portugal)
Israel (independent from UK's Mandate and right of abode in Palestine against Arabs)
China (Beijing) - independent from imperial Japan's occupation

A lot of Nigerians dont wanna die, but surely wanna make heaven. Nigerian magic if you ask me. Anyway, I believe if Nigeria as a country play on a fair ground, we have a better chance of building a greater State as a united "country" than when we split into many countries. Although I prefer we remain one country, this however does not imply I like the mess of a country we have right now. Even at my age, I wont mind joining a revolution that will restructure NIGERIA.

If I join such a revolution, my goals would include:

Keeping the country one,
Making her a Federation / Confederation in the like of Canada OR Switzerland
Education regional - exclusive
Culture / language - regional exclusive
Commerce and Industry - Concurrent
Agriculture - Concurrent
Religion - total state abstinence, salvation should be an individual private thing
Police - federal, pronvincial, communal police with checks and balances. All legally registered political parties and representative of the general public must be elected into the Police governing board

The executive Council of State - will include the premiers/Governors of all the regions. The President of Nigeria will be chosen among the members of this gremium.

Legislation will be Unicamera

The sum of the component of Nigeria are greater than each component if we positively tap on the synergy of being a country.

Gbawe: Koruji, who will carry out a "complete restructure of federation to make it workable" without executive and legislative power? This hopelessness is even more compounded in the face of the realisation that many citizens do not understand that power to bring change is in their hands.

Let us stop any romanticised notion of how we think Nigeria will make progress. Let us face reality.

We know the PDP is entirely devoted to a central system plundering the wealth of Nigeria . This is why the PIB cannot be passed when we have a PDP President, VP, Senate President, Deputy Senate Preisdent and Speaker house of Rep - plus upper and lower house majority !!!!!

Everything the PDP does and is devoted to happens to work against the progress of Nigeria. This is why, year in year out, it is essential for the Party to vote in a "business as usual" President who is simply a tool. Do you not see how noise of an SNC or constitution amendment to aid "true federalism" is all lost on GEJ while he pursues tenure elongation and other frivolities? What does that tell you vis-a-vis the power of the Presidency to aid or impede the progress of the Nation?

The first thing that must be done is for the PDP to be voted out at presidential level. While the Party controls the number 1 executive position in the land, Nigeria is going nowhere. A simple case study is Ghana. Rawlings realised that some had to go for his beloved nation to make progress. He knew, at the time, his people did not have the requisite political sophistication to get rid of these enemies of progress. Rawlings did what he had to do and the rest, as they say, is history. Nigeria is exactly where Ghana was i.e with a failing Nation held to ransom by vacuous looters and plunderers yet its people cannot rescue themselves because they lack the political nous to understand "people's power".

I am not going to talk about whether Buhari should run or not but what I will say is that those who see the big picture and know that the PDP must be defeated will not attempt to desenfranchise the voice of Buhari. His influence cannot be overlooked and he will be important in the effort to dethrone the PDP. Effective politics requires a level of pragmatism and with all due respect, let us not be acting/talking like the Soyinkas and Fawehinmis of the world when the people you are speaking for lack even basic political sophistication to understand a Plan B let alone carry it out.

The only option, first and foremost, and given how things stand, involves a joint project to remove a Party that is regression personified.

Buhari wont be able to make Nigeria workable. The man may not be as corrrupt as other, but he is also corrupt. If he were a good guy as he is being portrayed by some, he should not have had anything to do with that terrible Abacha regime. Even as highhanded as Buhari / Idiagbon regime was, it was not one percent as terrible as that terroristic Abacha regime. I do not pray for Buhari as president. If he gets there, the man will be more preoccupied with vengeance than actually developing the nation.

I am not surprised at all. They drive insanely in that country. Absolutely no sense of sanity. Overtaking where one is not to. Overspeeding. Poorly maintained vehicles. Very very bad tyres, lack of formal driver's training. Poor legislation on the use of road, inconsistent and apartheid execution of the poor legislations we have. All these are reasons the death toll is likely to remain very high.

If I were in Govt, apart from improving on infrastructure, I would also improve legislation on road use, and very important, embark on a long term awareness campaign on TV, Radio, print media and the internet. An overwhelming proportion of people possessing a driver's license in Nigera can not drive. Driving is not about moving the vehicle, but also respecting you are not the only one using the road, that you have to respect road use laws etc.

If made the transport minister, I definitely would carry out policies that would visibly reduce road accidents and the unneccessary traffic gridlocks over there.
