Android17: Poch coached Español and Tottenham same time. Forgive him for not winning. This is Poch's first full season with PSG and he will win the league for sure. Tuchel is currently ahead of Poch but not by much and time will tell.
Ranieri coached Leicester in that period and he won.
It’s an excuse that Poch couldn’t win at least a Carling cup with Spurs. Wigan, Birmingham, Portsmouth, etc have all defied the odds to win with fewer talents.
slimghost: Zidane started his first team management career in 2016 while Poch started around 2009 or so. Dunno who is the apprentice here. You are entitled to your choice but I’d stick with a prove EPL manager than a one hit wonder manager. Ladan Bosso would have won trophies with that Madrid side. There is a reason he is not keen on coming to United while Poch is. Seems one trusts in his own abilities while the other seems to trust the players; reason he is hell bent on going to PSG.
What did he win as a proven EPL manager.
Maybe we should sign Steve Bruce or Roy Hodgson too cos they are proven PL managers with 1000 games each.
We are talking about managers who have won big trophies in their careers and you people are mentioning a serial loser like Poch.
nitrogen: You are right. Bailly is on the bench. I really want Maguire to sit out some games.
Maguire is the captain. He cannot sit on the bench when he isn’t injured. You have to take the arm band away from him first before he can sit regularly on the bench.
Whether Carrick has the mettle to demote Maguire is another issue. The damage Ole has done to this club by giving Maguire the armband would take years to clean up.
I am reading now that Ronaldo is so shocked at the level of indiscipline under Ole. Issues like players reporting to training late, some players not showing up at all and they still get picked to start games week in week out.
Players knew there’s no consequence for their indiscipline. Solskjaer’s unthreatening character plus his loser mentality means players knew they could get away with such unprofessionalism.
Meanwhile, the British media are convinced Ole has left the club in a much better state than he met it.
hoopLA: Boss I'm not sure that's how it happened. Eva had the skirmish with Jose on the first day of the season and was demoted about a month later or so if my memory serves me correctly.
ChristoBam: They had injury problems. Just like an injury to Kante and Mahrez would have ended Leicester. Btwn who built the team that were struggling for Europa league spot to the 'best team in the league'? With little budget o
Which injury problems?
Poch is a failure, there were no injury problems when they allowed Leicester to win the league. Poch just bottled it like he did throughout his stay in England.
Android17: No THFC were not the best team in 15/16. On paper, it was Chelsea (they had just won the league 14/15). Pochettino’s young team lost their heads and let Leicester catch them. But so did United, City and Arsenal that finished 2nd.
Chelsea were out of the race by the time Eva Carneiro was demoted. Mourinho got sacked as early as December.
United had LVG. The target was to finish top 4. No one expected LVG to win any thing that season.
Pellegrini was also out of sorts that year. The rumors that Pep was already lined up to take over from him didn’t help his motivation.
Poch had the most experience of any PL manager in the top 6 then apart from the calamitous Arsene Wenger who hadn't won the league in 12 years. Wenger had said finishing top 4 was the same as winning the league so he wasn’t in any title race.
Android17: No. PSG is a big problem. Even Tuchel said it. They expect you to be the Sports Prefect. Tuchel would tell Neymar he is not allowed to travel to Brazil for his sister's birthday party. Neymar will still go. When Tuchel inquires why, he will be told that Leonardo or someone from the higher ups gave Neymar the go-ahead. Tuchel said you have to cater to not just the stars but those around them. If Neymar Snr could not get a hard-on the previous night, Tuchel had to call to recommend ED medicine because if Neymar Snr is unhappy, Neymar Jnr won't play well. Managing superstars is not for everyone and it does not help when the owners enable the superstars. Come on.
Tuchel later came to Chelsea and proved his mettle by winning the CL without a single signing.
Android17: It is easier for the 2nd best team in Germany to win the German cup than it is for Southampton to or Espanyol to win anything in England and Spain.
Spurs had the best team in the PL in 15/16. The other top clubs seem to be rebuilding or changing managers.
Ranieri came from nowhere in his debut at Leicester to beat Pochettino’s Spurs to a title.
Expert17: He took Spurs to UCL final without a single signing...OLE will relegate Man City/Liverpool if he fails to sign a player.
It was a fluke, bro. Reaching a final and losing isn’t an achievement. It’s failure.
He was Aguero’s offside decision from getting eliminated.
Android17: Yes, he had lost the plot because he had quarreled with Daniel Levy amidst United rumours. People forget that Ole was to be interim for united to get Poch. They only changed plans because Ole beat Tuchel and Poch was fired by THFC.
He had lost the plot?
Why would Poch leave the current team he’s managing for United if he has any ambition? Why would any manager want to quit managing Messi/Neymar/Mbappe and opt for McFred/Maguire/Shaw?
It should tell you a lot about Poch’s loser mentality.
Android17: No. Poch won the Coupe de France and Trophees des Champions last season with PSG. He finished a point behind first because he met the team at 3rd from Tuchel.
So his first major trophy was at PSG where even a goat could win a trophy?
Nothing won at Espanyol, Southampton and Spurs?
The point is Tuchel won something even before going to PSG. These margins are very important.
Silentgroper: I think u guys havent made a formal approach for erik.. But it's crystal clear that he wont be joining, at least till nxt season.. So poch is man.u's best bet..
Carrick should remain as caretaker until any of the United targets is available. At least with Carrick, the expectations are minimal.
Poch is the worst of the lot. It is going to be another Ole cycle again. After 3 years, Poch would leave the club in 15th position without winning anything.
You guys should watch that. Ole could never. You’d be impressed by the attack but also pause and look at their defenders when they attack. Our next coach In sha Jesus.
This is exactly what Carragher was saying about Ole. Carragher said he likes listening to managers’ perspective about games. How they analyze or how they set up attacks and discuss the specifics.
He said each time he tries to listen to Ole, he never speaks about these things(creating spaces, overloading one flank, etc). All you hear from Ole is DNA, attack attack attack, United tradition, etc.
Ole will never break a game down into specifics. He cannot tell you why/how a goal was scored. He doesn’t understand any of these things. It’s just vibes and insha allah.
Android17: Poch like every coach has his failures. I feel some of his successes however minor are being underplayed. He does have good recruitment strategy, develops young players, plays attacking football and can manage a dressing room. He may not be on the level of the top 3 teams but he has bested both Klopp and Pep that one season in 2016-17. With United's financial muscle, who is to say he may not do better? We all call Tuchel now in the same breath as Pep and Klopp but it would have been blasphemy by this same time last season.
Tuchel had won the German cup in 16/17, a couple of league titles with PSG, etc.
Poch was in the PL for almost 7 years and he won nothing throughout.
MRTA7: I dont care for Poch at all. My question is what are the other options?
Other options are the Ajax dude or Ragnick.
And this is my problem with the Glazers. During the summer, there were about 7 top managers without a job. That was when they should have axed Ole but they waited and waited until all those managers got jobs.
Android17: Every other manager would have a bad away record against the top 6. Poch did beat all of them at home as well.
Poch is shit. In a 2-horse race that he was involved in with Leicester in 15/16, he still managed to finish 3rd. Is Poch better than Ole?
Their highest finish = 2nd Both of them bottled a European final.
So I am asking again, why should United sack Ole and sign Poch? I’d rather they re-hire Ole than sign Poch. I don’t see how Poch would improve the current United side.
Android17: Zidane is living in Madrid. His wife is in Madrid too. They prefer the weather there which is part of why he was rejecting United. He also does not speak English beyond exchanging pleasantries. That is why it is easy to reject United.
Manchester’s weather is terrible to be honest. It’s always raining or drizzling there. No one would swap the weather in Madrid for Manchester unless the money is totally worth it.
The language barrier is no issue at all. There are many French speaking players in the squad. Bielsa can’t speak a word in English and he’s been in England for how many years now.
MRTA7: Well Woodward is useless. So if you're depending on that then we're finished.
There has also been lots of talk that Zidane has no interest in coming to England and his wife has even come out to say the same. so I'm not sure how much we can offer that will change his mind. Zizou seems to only want the national team job.
Joel Glazer has cranked up the pressure as at yesterday night to get Zidane by all means necessary. His wife can stay in France.
Zidane can take the Eurostar to see her every now and then. It’s 2 hours trip by Train(less time than some people spend commuting to work).
Pochettino’s record in the PL is nothing to write home about. If Pochettino is the answer then there was no reason to sack Ole.
MRTA7: Zidane is not available. Who's your 2nd choice?
Zidane is available, Woodward is yet to present an offer he cannot refuse.
The next World Cup ends around Christmas 2022. So the earliest Zidane can take the French National Team job is January 2023.
If we cannot convince Zidane to manage United between now and 2023 then it’s our fault, not his fault. United should go back with an improved package and a promise that he would have total control of transfers and adequate funds would be provided.
slimghost: I wonder how people would choose Zizou over Poch. Zizou’s only success came in a star studded Madrid side. I really want to see him succeed outside Madrid first. I have seen Poch at Soton, Spurs and PSG. He might not be the best out there but I will gladly take him over Zizou. We need that mad pressing. Time for those lazy ass players to work their arses off.
So you would take Poch who has won nothing meaningful in his career over Zizou that won La Liga(twice) and UCL(3 times in a row).
The only thing you can guarantee with Poch is finishing in the top 4. United won’t stay satisfied with finishing top 4 with the squad at their disposal. Anything short of winning the league/CL will be considered failure and I don’t think Poch can challenge Pep/Klopp/Tuchel.
Was it not the same Poch that allowed Leicester to win the league in 2015/16 even though he had a better squad than Leicester? Poch is shit. He’s like Moyes. Just because he can thrive in a team that has top 4 as it’s target does not mean he’s ready to take a massive club like United to a league title.
Zidane knows what it takes to win the big trophies, Poch does not have a clue. His team will play good football and then lose the vital games when it matters. I already experienced that under Ole(bottling 6 semifinals against minnows). If Zidane is available, he should be the #1 choice. A proper winner should be managing United, not apprentices like Ole or Poch.
Dedicated to United fans, not limited to Inners, outers, fencist, deckers.. Awon plastic, metal, wood fans are welcome to enjoy this jam.
Poch is shit but anyone better than Ole is welcome for now.
However, if Poch screws up, he would get sacked too. The Glazers have now shown that handing a contract to any manager isn’t a bulletproof vest.
They have now sacked Mourinho/Ole in the same year they were given a new contract. The fact that Poch wants to leave a team that has Messi/Mbappe/Neymar to United should tell even the dumbest person that Poch has no ambition.
Let Poch come, the same standards applied to Jose and Ole shall be applied to him. He has no excuses but to deliver. He’s managed in this league before so he would even get less leeway than Ole. At this point, only Zidane makes sense. If he’s not available, any other person shall be welcome.
