Pls can one of the pro alcohol people at least tell okija juju that Jesus did not say we should drink alcohol often in his remembrance! Maybe he may listen to you.
Has anyone visited ow11's http://units.nhs.uk/ ?It may help you to visit there,The site cemented my convictions on the risk of taking alcohol.you need to look at the tips for 'social drinking',they laws are so many, for once I was reminded of the book of Leviticus. They even said 'if you're driving with the legal i.e prescribed limit of alcohol in your blood, you're MORE THAN twice as likely to have an accident than if you've not being drinking. The risk is 5times greater if you're a less experienced driver.' well, I thank God scientist and governments are discovering to be truth, what God has warned us of more than 2000 years ago. If you visit that site, try visiting all the links so as to be updated like I was on the danger of the units. Also check out the MYTHS link and discover reality.

@aisha2
to say that apostle Paul had fear of women suggests that you do not personally STUDY the bible.Anyone, even atheists who reads the bible would notice that the same message of female obedience/submission runs through the scripture.Even the above quoted 1Corinthians 14v34 says "but they are COMMANDED to be under obedience as ALSO SAITH the law. It's not a one man's idea/opinion.I didn't write it. It's the Word of God. Be content with such things as we have.

I'm not worked up/upset. I said i was suprised that you said two books(corinthians and timothy) in the bible are not written for us but for 'the ancient people' of the bible.and I asked, what books have a message for us or what books can be applied to us?
Also,I don't feel women shouldn't talk in church, neither do I feel they should worship men.Nobody said this things except you.Do you worship your church's teacher(s)?
she was created from his rib, under his heart.Does this tell you anything?
did you type that?Well this doesn't in anyway suggest that women should teach over the man.Except it does to you.

12. Then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother.
13. Thus you nullify the word of God by YOUR tradition that you have handed down.
NIV
Can you imagine that anything can make the quick and powerful word of God of none/null effect? Our little part if left unplayed or badly played can greatly hinder God's vision for one's life. God has made abundant provision for our happiness and satisfaction but we have our part to play. Unbelief, little sins, compromise, vain traditions are some of the things that can hinder the move of God in our circumstance.
One of the effects that God's word should produce should be care for our parents. When you disown/neglect your parents, you make the Word of God of none effect. What are you doing at present for your father and mother? Do you regard them?Do you obey them?Do you esteem them?Do you respect them?
When some people get married, they just neglect their parents and pass the buck of care to others. Both married and unmarried folks ought to honour their father and mother. This is the first commandment with promiSe.

Philippians1v18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretense, or in truth, CHRIST IS PREACHED; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Sister, you see from this scripture ve more important thing and the mind of Christ. As you've said, many have genuinely given their lives to Christ through this method and many will still do. Its not every altar call/sinners' prayer that lasts for just 10secs. And the sinner's confessio and declaration of assurance of salvation is a good step in the right direction if followed through. I think though that one of the aim of preachers who make altar calls is for followup and further help.Great people of God have being saved through this medium. A few that I recall now include Billy Graham(famous evangelist), Jack Coe, Kathryn Kuhlman(the woman who believed in miracles) and A,A Allen. I don't know the salvation testimony of nigerian preachers but I think I read in a mag sometime last year that W.F Kumuyi(Deeper Life pastor) have his life to Christ through an altar call. I'll reconfirm that though, but as mentioned, some do genuinely get saved and are mightily used of God.Its not a worry

I'm suprised at your reply.Do you seriously mean that 1Corinthians and 1Timothy are written only to the corinthians and to Timothy and are therefore not applicable/relevant to Today's christian? So what book in the bible is written to us /can be followed by us. I've always thought christians should be transformed/changed by the renewing of their minds through scriptures so that they could prove the good and PERFECT will of God. I thought the view of scriptures ought to direct and guide us and not just OUR fancies, likes and traditions. The english translations of the 2text seem clear, why take us through greek lessons.se you wan do ojoro?
There's so much to be involved in in the work/kingdom of God.Not teaching men doesn't turn anyone into a robot or to being useless. In a church of 5000 members where they have about say 20 teachers, are the remaining people robots?

December 6 Hebrews 6v12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
God is never satisfied with nonchalance. Mediocrity is not related to Him and as children of God,we should be 'like Father, like child'. Many children of God today do not MOVE forward. They just take what comes their way.God expects us to enter into the fulness of His blessing(S).He wants us to manifest faith and patience to inherit the promise(S). Some just relax and think God's plan is only for them to be born again. Some think God's plan is finished when they're prosperous(rich). Some think it's only to have a family. Some think they've arrived when they experience good health. But from today,we can inherit the promiseS not just one promise.
God wants you to go forward.Don't be slothful/lazy.Don't stop where YOU are. There's a lot more in Jesus, there's ABUNDANT life available in the kingdom life. There's more Holiness and joy unspeakable, more perfection and greater anointing. Walk with those (Be followers of them) who through faith and patience inherit the promiseS.

Why,you're 'insinuating' my feelings as per my question already.
I believe it is good that we should understand first what should be generally meant by 'drink alcohol'. When someone talks about drinking alcohol, the normal general use of that term is, alcohol in intoxicable %.Something like beer, gulder, harp, star, stout, paraga, hotdrink, and the likes. I don't think the 1st poster or most people are thinking of perfume, fanta, biscuit, robb, paracetamol, ethanol(crude oil),rice and co. And everyone knows that too much of anything is bad,so stop comparing day to day food to intoxicating alcohol that has sent many to untimely death and hospital bed etc. So,question again, should a GOOD christian drink alcohol that is able to make you drunk ?

December 5 Matthew 5v15,16
15. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
NLT

One major purpose of light is for OTHERS to see.Light doesn't work for itself. It would be useless to us if there was light and we could not see it. Jesus says we are the light of the 'world'. The world around us has to see that light.God's purpose isn't fulfilled if others cannot see your light. People need to know that you're different. You are a light. A shining example for others to copy, not a photocopy of others. You know the way,you have the Word, you're on the path. Be the light, shining for all the world around you to see.THEY need to see your 'good' WORKS. Its not just a thing hidden in the heart. Let others see the light. God has not lighted you to be put under a basket only known to yourself. Give light to all that are in the house. Don't let your worship be evil spoken of. Having a Good conscience that, whereas they speak evil of you,as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that FALSELY accuse YOUR GOOD conversation in Christ.

11. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

It usually amuses me when unbelievers try to expound the Word of God. The things of the kingdom of God are spiritual. They are in another plane/dimension. You need more than the physical to understand the mystery of the kingdom of God.Just like the eyes alone cannot distinctly see far away, but with the help of some magnifying device, you can even see each star above and name them. With the help of some satellite device, you can see more than your ordinary eyes can see. It is more so with spiritual things. Those that are without (outside) can only get more confused as they try to know the things of God. That's why there is so much arguement, confusion, parable and sometimes bitterness from people who are not true followers of Jesus. But as for You,it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. You have the help of the holy Spirit of God because, you're abiding in Christ and He in you. YOU see things clearly.
Sadly sometimes, some believers try to see afar off with their eyes, not using the devices available to them,so they act as confused as those without. From today, begin to Act right.

Anyway Esther 3:4
Mordecai was a Jew who still kept the commandments of God even outside the land of Israel. Although the king Ahasuerus had given a command,Mordecai had greater regard for the command of the King of kings (Jehovah).Even though there was daily pressure on him,he did not compromise FOR HE HAD TOLD THEM THAT HE WAS A JEW.
Many christians are very holy in church or around fellow believers but different/compromising when they mix with outsiders. From Today, dare to be a Christian, tell your friends you're a Christian.Tell your colleagues at work that you are a Christian. Tell the whole world that you are a CHRISTIAN. You're a different person,a peculiar people,a chosen generation. Have a higher perspective to life.Do not be ashamed to carry His name.Tell them that your life and ALL has being given to Him forever and take Jesus with you everywhere.

The life and principle of grace taught in this passage (Matthew 5) is not possible for everyone except those who have received Christ and power to live like children of God.Infact its normal that a graceless person should find this command impossible and ridiculous.
Its like telling a hiker in Lagos to meet you @ Abuja in 24 hours. Its impossible for him.Except he employs the use of a machine (a car or airplane),then he can make the journey inside 12hours.Its only by coming boldly ib faith to the throne of grace that we can get/obtain grace and power to keep Christ's commandments. Our personal struggles cannot achieve it.How can one come boldly to obtain power from God if he's not born again (a child of God ).The call from God to you NOW is to leave your hopeless, helpless, shallow hiking and come to JESUS the source of LIFE.He's able to transport you on eagles'wings, make you effective and at the very best.Acts 3 v 16  And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong

Matthew 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
Mat 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Mat 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

The letter killeth but the spirit giveth life.Jesus said " the words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life".And the same applies to the whole Bible. You need God to help you interpret the word,if you're to profit from its study. You need to be born again, to have the spirit of Christ and the love of God.Those are basics to understanding. Also, you should carefully remember and look up other parts of scripture to be sure that the intepretation you hold adamantly to tallies with the other parts of scripture.

Matthew 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
What is Jesus talking about?,what contxt is he refering to?
Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
Exo 21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Exo 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
Exo 21:25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
This is refering to when a person is brought to the judge by another for offending, then the judge pronounces judgement according to the prescribed measures, Notice that contrary to popular thinking, this OT law wasn't made to legalise revenge. It wasn' t a personal 'you removed my eye,I'll remove yours (rough jungle justice) thing. It was a thing that involved judges/authorities, Then Jesus said in Matthew 5v39-42
Jesus was teaching a life of grace and forgiveness.Teaching that His disciples could forgive wrong, forego rights and follow/pursue peace instead. If you'll notice from the life of Christ and His disciples, they didn't take this passage to mean 'being everybody's doormat' but they took/understood it in its proper context because they had the spirit/mind of Christ.
Do you recall any scenario of cheek smiting in the Bible? let me brief you on one.Jesus was smitten on the cheek,He didn't turn the other cheek also.instead He queried "Why smitest thou me?"
Let me leave you with some similar examples to ponder on.Its in the same Matthew.lets learn to ponder, meditate and rightly divide the Word of God.
Matthew 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Matthew 15:25 Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Mat 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

Matt 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
Mat 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
Mat 18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.

December 2 Proverbs 2v20
Prov2:20 That thou mayest WALK IN THE WAY OF good men and keep the paths of the righteous.

Here are words of wisdom from the only wise God.We're told to walk in the way of good men.We live in a society with the tendency to walk in the way/lifestyle of the people who seem to impress us.These are usually our entertainers, our actors and actresses, our musicians, the people in our gossip magazines, our sport idols and the rich guys next door.We often want to dress like them, talk like them, marry like them, behave like them and take their decisions.
Unfortunately,we tend to leave out the examples and pattern of life of good people like our parents, our pastors and spiritual leaders, and the GOOD PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE.It should not be so.We should 'keep' the path of the righteous.Do not derail. Some may say "I don't have any righteous person around me".Well you have Joseph,Moses,David,Paul,Peter,Esther,Ruth and others. They were all righteous people and are a great cloud of witnesses around you.Live the way they lived and walk in the way they walked. No need to stray or start your own new thing.keep the paths of the righteous
