You're fast turning into a waste of time this new year. Is it got to do with the subsidy palaver?

Even though they are charlatans they can make themselves useful to the public for once. The reality on ground is that they control a large followership, they are respected and influential + they have political leverage on those in power. They also have the ability to mobilze huge crowds, so they should at least give something back to the numerous Nigerians they milk dry regularly by championing the fight for good governance.
So, as charlatans, what is their gain? At least, we know what you'd gain now that you seem to need the help of charlatans?

January 6 Mark 6v20

"For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly." (Mark 6:20).

I read recently on another thread, that one problem with leadership is that you do not know if the people are really following you, or chasing you. This is one reason why it's important that we always please God in all we do. Preachers should resolve to faithfully preach the Word of God in all truth and completeness, at all times.
Many preachers preach well if they have a large audience. Infact, some are not even content with a large audience, they create an applauding, appreciating audience. They make up a congregation that screams "amen", "alleluia", "ride on pastor". The message is not 'sweet', the spirit is not moving except the congregation claps and makes some noise. John the baptist had such an audience/congregation in Herod and his house. Unfortunately, Herod was the one who later beheaded John.
So many preachers are feared and reverenced by their congregation. That you fear your pastor and call him Lord, Bishop, Reverend, Papa does not make you more qualified for 'blessing', Herod did better than you. Herod observed John, and knew John was holy. When John spoke, Herod did many things and heard him gladly. Maybe you do many things too in your church when the preacher is talking, Herod did better than you. Or maybe you also hear your man of God gladly, and you gladly buy his tapes, books, handkerchiefs, shawls etc. It doesn't qualify you more before God. What God looks for is obedience. Obedience brings the blessing. Pastors should learn to preach the Word in season and out of season. With the same unction and grace whether in a cell meeting of 2 or 3, or at a crusade-size gathering. Don't be discouraged or relying on audience response. Rely on God. He is the rewarder.

Deeper Life Christian Ministry Church's killings in Gombe state is another undeniable testimony to the fact that God has lost all his powers to protect his own. For heavens sake, If there is God, why didn't he protect the hapless parishioners and as well dealt a mortal blow to the ravaging Boko Haramists? God continues to display uncommon weakness, a shameful silence and spurious omnipotency of a sort while Boko Haram has seized the initiative and has effectively proclaimed the christian God powerless. When will God ever fight back? The answer is not far fetched, God is an illusion, it simply does not exist.
This for a fact proves your ignorance. Christians have been dying for time immemorial. God has saved us from sin and from coming judgement. Long life and prosperity na welcome addition, not a sign of God's power. It's not because God loved Methuselah more than Stephen that made Methuselah live longer. You've got little or no perspective on spiritual matters. You're blind and need help. Do you think God was powerless to save Stephen from been stoned? Or any of the early disciples, many of which tradition says did not die a natural death? You need perspective, no you need life, then light.

Christianity Etc › Re: Please What Does The Bible Mean By "vain Repititions" Matthew 6:7? by Image123(m): 7:33am On Jan 06, 2012
Vain repetitions is routine prayers, just to fill in the gap/time. Like chanting a phrase many times. Reading a prayer/passage a couple of times e.g 3times, 7times. Saying the same thing at designated times e.g every 12o'clock, or 3times a day etc. Some do it in an attempt to speak in tongues, deceiving themselves.
Vain repetition though should not be confused with sincere prayer of importunity.

Christianity Etc › Re: This Matter Of Interpretations by Image123(m): 11:27pm On Jan 05, 2012
Also, add to the OP's mix that the Bible is living/alive. This means/necessitates that sometimes a particular verse/passage may change in application, as by the Spirit of God. What one needs though is to be clean/pure before God, and to always walk in the Spirit. Fleshly interpretations would not profit much. Fleshly interpretations is common BTW.

Martian:
While believers in NeverNever Land enjoy eternity with the true Living God, those who call him a dead god will be  banished to the underworld where they will perform manual labor 20 hours a day and sleep for 4 hrs. They will live this mundane existence for 20000 years, then they will enter into coma like states for a 1000 years then wake up and repeat the sequence.

Meanwhile, for us favored, anointed, blessed, chosen believers, the next 10000 years following the first thousand years will be all about exploring the universe that our God made. We will visit every galaxy cluster and take tours around billions of galaxies, solar systems and suns. We will even get lessons in "creation".

So image123, mind your tongue and DO NOT insult the God nor his "anointed", Martian, because you don't know what your next hour will bring talk less of your eternity. Repent in order to get your gate pass into NeverNever Land.

Christianity Etc › Re: Do People Worship God Because They Realy Love Him? by Image123(m): 7:08pm On Jan 05, 2012
Loving God, worshipping God and obeying God involves many factors. MOTIVE is not everything. Many people have a seemingly 'good motive' to be thieves, murderers, fornicators and prost.titutes. It's good to have a good motive for serving or loving God, but when all's being said and done, motive alone may not give you a pass or A grade. One may love/worship God because God is love, another loves/worships God because God is faithful, another loves God because it's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, another because God's been so good to him and family. And on and on. What's the greatest of all, it's Love. Whatever reason you've got, you'd better love and worship God.

January 5 John 5v7

John 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

Today's passage shows us an helpless man who received help. It shows us an impotent man who was made potent. In today's world, you need power to get power, and money to make money. You need to know people in high places to really get things done, it seems. So, that is what people look for. Personal goal now becomes "if i could get this couple of thousands, i'll use it to do this and that and make more money." Or "if i try to be close to this party, that uncle, those societies and bodies, i'll get to where i'm going." People look for power so that they can use what they have to get what they want. But this man in Today's passage, he didn't do all that. He was impotent by the way. If you feel impotent in any area of life, there's hope for you today. We'll see two things in our passage that made his miracle easy.
This impotent man had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. It shows us that this man was either thirty-eight years old(if he was born with this infirmity), or more than thirty-eight years old. If, for instance, he had this infirmity when he was twenty years old, then currently in the text, he is fifty-eight years old. What we know though is that he was older than Jesus physically. But then, Jesus Christ came to ask him, "Do you want to get well?" What a question? If it were you, or someone you know, what would have been your reply? You know, this impotent man could have caused Jesus by his gods, he could have berated him. He could have said many things. He could have being provoked, but He said "Sir". Jesus is supposed to be about 30(thirty) years old, and he said "Sir". HUMILITY, number one thing, humility. Humble yourself, and God will lift you up. This man got a literal lifting of his life.
And then, "I have no man.' When men have failed you, trust in God. But you do not need to wait thirty-eight years for men to fail you before you trust in God. You can 'jump the thirty-eight year queue' as it were, and trust in God. Lift your eyes to Him, and put your trust in Him alone, He will help you. Trust in God, and be humble, your miracle will hit you very easily and quickly.

January 4 Nehemiah 4v3

3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.

Jerusalem had been destroyed and the inhabitants taken into captivity for many years. The city was more than dilapidated, it was destroyed. The walls were broken down and the gates burned with fire. But then came Nehemiah and his team to rebuild Jerusalem. Nehemiah had the backing and support from God, and from King Artaxerxes, who happened to be the most powerful king around.
The work of rebuilding was making good progress. But we have this man, Tobiah, who was a servant of one Sanballat. This servant man made scathing remarks to mock Nehemiah and his team. But thank God, Nehemiah was a champion. He would not be distracted, let alone discouraged by the words of Tobiah and his master.
In this new year, be a Nehemiah. As you have a project, a wall to build, a backing/support from God the King of all kings. Some servant/servants of sin and satan may come to taunt you. Don't come down to their level, go up higher, let them keep saying. If you have anything to say, why not say it to God? You will have whatsoever you say. Underneath you ARE the Everlasting arms. Go ahead, build the wall of righteousness around your life, your marriage, your job, your health, your education. Those that are with you ARE more than those with them. Hold firm your resolutions, your goals, your projects for the year. IF God be with you, that's the most important thing ever.

I don't know about you, but im spending eternity in NeverNever Land, where elves will be my domestic staff. Every night, there will be dancing leprechauns and we will feast on camel stuffed with beef, mutton,  chicken, pork and fish, served in silver bowls plated with gold plated diamonds. That's just the first 1000 years though because doing the same thing for eternity will just be dumb. Example, Christians praising their sky daddy forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever

It sure as hell beats your eternity.
You don't have a hold on your next hour, not to mention your tomorrow. Not to type of your eternity. You seRve a dead god.

Albert708:
Since the onset of the activities of the dreaded Islamic sect boko haram especially with the way they her targeting places of worship and Christian has lead to so terrifying complaints by men of God in this country In a statement that chronicled several attacks and killings of Christians and destruction of their places of worship, the Christian leaders said: "We have hitherto exercised restraint in our public statements on these matters. However, we cannot continue to do so indefinitely, and are determined that in the year 2012, if these unprovoked attacks continue, and Christians remain unprotected by the security agencies, then we will have no choice but to defend our lives and property and take our own steps to ensure our safety and security”. The statement was signed by CAN president, and other notable Nigeria mega pastors. What are these men of God saying now?? Are they now saying they would soon license us to carry guns to fight back in the name of self defense? Whatever they mean by this I am disappointed that none of them could make known the mind of God about this issue, and while these mega preachers are making these statements with some even publicly cursing the boko haram sect, we were yet to hear a word from TB Joshua on this boko haram issue, but He surprisingly broke this silence during the Christmas and new year services held at his imposing cathedral in Lagos, with a sharply contrasting view to what these other mega pastors preach and insinuate, check here for full story:

January 3 Proverbs 3v3,4

3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.
4. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Christians are pictured as the bride of Christ, in the which, the bridegroom and the bride are one. Each is not doing his/her own thing, but they are united as One. Christians are pictured even more closely, as the very body of Christ. Christ and christians should be so into one another that they become the same body, working together with Christ and with one another. Christianity is fellowship, we do not forsake the fellowship/assembling of ourselves.
How romantic we often find it for a husband to do the wife's chores, and the wife to do the husband's chores as they help one another. Unfortunately, some christians do not do this romance with Christ. They say "It's His work." Do not allow mercy and truth forsake you, that's God's work, isn't it? But we are told, bind them about your neck. Don't be passive and say "Well He'll have mercy on who He'll have mercy." Stir Him up, as it were, tie them on you.
Write them upon the table of your heart. What? Only God can do that? Yes only God can do that. But you get to that 'level' where you're like Jacob saying "i'm not letting You go, unless You bless me". I'm going to write this thing on my heart, even though i don't know alphabets. And you know what, God does not disappoint, He'll come to your aid, He'll be by your side. He'll hold your hands. He'll place those jewels on you, He'll write them beautifully on your heart. Yes, He is that romantic. You will find favour and good understanding both before God and before others. Don't give room to fate/fatalism. Have faith, a faith that gets up to work. Christianity is teamwork.

Ogaga, i'm not threatening you. Perhaps you feel threatened because of the vanity of your life. I'm only telling you(all you unbelievers, not just personal you) to consider your ways, and note the consequences. Where would you spend eternity, would you rather avoid a year in the hospital, or 2years in prison. Hell will be worse, you've got space to REPENT of your sins and follies.

January 2        Titus2v14

Who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

God is a giver. God the Son i.e Jesus Christ Himself is also a giver as our text shows. It is a godly thing to give. Many supposedly 'godly' people spend a lot of time, reasoning and energy debating on how to give and if to give. What God is more interested in is not our talk, but the action of giving. By the way, we ought to learn to give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar, and give what belongs to God to God. We don't give what is holy or set apart to dogs. We should discern what we ought to give to dogs. You know, even Jesus gave to dogs but He was discerning.
Many today reason that all that's important is giving, not minding the purpose. We should learn that there is giving for charity, there's giving to family, there's giving to fellowship. These three are different and separate. There are other forms and types of giving. Jesus gave Himself for us, humanity. His purpose was to redeem us from all iniquity. Now, God has highly exalted Him, and has made many followers of Him. Today, we claim to be products of this seed, the seed of Christ giving Himself for us.
But the searchlight is this, have you been redeemed from all iniquity? When you give, it will be given unto you. When Christ gave, it's expected that you also give your life unto Him. IF you've totally given/surrendered/laid down your life for/to Him, then you can truly experience redemption from all iniquity. IF you've not totally given to Him, it's unfortunate you'll continue to fumble in the POSITION of redemption from iniquity instead of the EXPERIENCE. Have you given to Jesus? Givers do not lack.
