@thehomer what's the definition of 'cruel and inhumane punishment'? Not to drag issues, i get your point that the OT God(wondering what that means) is barbaric and cruel, and the NT God is nicer. What do you class as lovely and humane punishment? What makes me believe the Bible and not quran and co, i find what i need in the Bible, i don't need to care or worry whether to believe or doubt the quran. Plus i do not see eternal life in the others. i do not see holiness, or the Revelation of God and the purpose of man as revealed in the Bible. i don't love doing 'criticisms' in that sense, so permit to summarily say that i'm TOTALLY satisfied with the Bible. Do i think it's right for people to be killed for commiting sin? Maybe no. Does the Bible say it's right? Do you take the Bible as one as it is, or you're again caught picking and choosing without the right perspective. One can easily quote Jesus charging His disciples not to tell anyone that He's Christ and vice versa. What's the right perspective today, what's understanding, what's a relationship, what's common sense? |
@Idehn We're saying the same thing, just making different conclusions. I'm aware of the 'history of the versions', it's not a case of i never knew have been deceived all this while. i know of political intrigues and so on. The final product is what i'm referencing. There are localised versions of the Bible, we may even have Idehn Bible, i think there's td jakes Bible, oyakhilome Bible, women Bible and so on. Those are local/localised versions. I'm referencing the world best seller, it contains 66books, it can be googled, downloaded, in so many languages and versions. That's the final product. No man can of his own will physically take away or add to it. All the procedures were overseen by God. Like a local proverb will say "man's madness does not stop God's work". |
@thehomer No that was not what I implied by that statement. I already responded to this here. See the first line of my response.I didn't say you 'meant' that, i said you 'implied' it. No qualms sha, i see you did not mean it that way. Oh? Do you really? I take this to mean that you believe in talking animals, Noah's ark, Samson's hair, floating axes, bears commanded with God's aid to kill children, zombies wandering the streets and other such tales? Do you also practice all that is recommended in it too?i guess you're referring to the signs and miracles in the bible. I believe the whole bible, the miracles, the wonders, the prophecies, all of it. And i keep the commandments of God by the grace of God. It's not by my strength, i never could when i tried my best to my strength. but i learnt to trust in God, and in His word/promises, and it's been wonderful for me. i'm transformed. evil does not have dominion over me. the Bible is to be obeyed by the Spirit of God, not academically, and not forgetting to keep everything in the right perspective from Genesis to Revelation. Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Psa 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psa 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. What was the purpose that you found?i found the purpose for life. i found my history and God's. i uses to wonder, why is man here, why are we born, where do we go from here, who's responsible for all that is in earth. All the answers i find in the Bible, and its satisfactory compared to all others. the Bible gives me hope, keeps me in check, advices me so that i'm miles ahead of others around me who do not study it, makes me a helper of others, a succorer of many, makes me calm when others are bewildered(it's like sometimes i've seen the expo, the grand scheme). Is faith really such a good thing?Yes, without faith it is impossible to please God, hope you know that's actually scripture. Faith is precious, it is a gift of God. Through faith, i had and you can have salvation, spiritual light, eternal life, provision and preservation. Faith is the medium, like the telescope through which we can see the invisible spiritual reality, and receive more and more of God's. You don't reject any scripture? Do you also accept the books of Tobias, Maccabees and others? Believe me when I say I've read the Bible.i do not reject any scripture. The books you mentioned are not scripture, if they were they'll be in the scripture. No man has the power to take out or add to the scripture, not even a verse. you can try it, you have the internet at you disposal and a lot of rich people se? Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Isa 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever. 1Pe 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. No council or decree can of it's own accord vote out or vote in what it wants into the Bible, even the UN or whatever you feel to be the most powerful body on earth. If it's not in the Bible it's simply because it's not the bible. Those books and others may be good books oh, they may even agree with the Bible. But if it's not the Bible, it's not the same thing as the bible. |
@thehomer I wanted the discourage the mindset that doesn't have selfesteem and that doesn't regard his life or another's of much value. That's what you implied in the statement that i quoted from you. I believe everything i read in the Bible, i learnt to. God revealed His love and holiness to me. I was once a sinner and i knew it in the inside. There was a void in me. I wasn't 'unintelligent', it's not a matter of brain washing or the like. I've read books and done calculations, and i still do. But the Bible is different from others. As i read it, i found real purpose in life. I found faith and true hope. i saw God's nature of holiness, what He expects of man, and the power to do it. i do not reject any scripture, maybe we're looking at things from different perspectives, or maybe you've not really read the Bible |
Methinks wenger is the problem. The team needs at least a second coach to make up for wenger's deficiencies. Don't tell me arsenal does not have a better squad than birmingham. Arsene does not have the 'charisma' to win, it's always been that way. Even with the 'invincibles', he still managed. They struggled with so many draws and inconsistencies. They disappointed against galatasaray at the uefa cup final, they were very lucky to win their fa cup final against manUnited. No doubt quality, but didn't really get to the heights they deserved because of man wenger. If wenger were to take over barca today, they'll not reach the CL final and they'll begin to flatter to deceive. Success as partly the players AND the coach to thank. The current arsenal team can and have beaten barca, chelsea, birmingham, man city. They're able, the onus is on their leader. |
Sai, which one be 'suffer not little children' again? This people and christian piracy sha. They have their own retreat, their own house fellowship, their own sunday service, their own choir. Now it's their own version of the Bible. wetin we no go see? |
@thehomer Here's what you said What I want doesn't really matter here.Whether or not I'm about to commit suicide or an abortion is irrelevant. Now for me as a christian, i have to discourage such mindset, words are powerful you know. You want to know how i believe that God is holy, merciful and righteous? i believe the same way you believed! I read it and believed it. Why? Because it worked in my life and in the lives of several others. God has been merciful to me. He's shown me His love and His holiness. I do not reject any of God's attributes. The good thing for me is that i know Him, you don't. The Bible doesn't say God's wicked or terrible or bad or whatever. i re-wonder at where you saw all that and its like. |
The power, glory and transformation into righteousness is unparalleled. People all over the world talk and testify of the power of the Bible in their lives, their health, their finances. Hardened sinners, even criminals and prisoners become totally changed for the better by hearing the Word of God. I've never seen someone read plato or newton and then decide to repent of evil. That's the power, the transformation. The Bible has power to make a person holy. These make it not an ordinary book, another reason been that it wasn't exactly penned down by 'great minds' but by a vast span of personalities and professions in the widest range of time. Now what's the difference between eternal shame and eternal punishment? You asked for anywhere IMPLIED in the old testament, i showed you more than you asked. Do be objective pls. Plus i don't think anyone here's saying that the Bible has no use in Heaven. For a start, God doesn't say so, and the Bible is going to be used in final judgement at the throne of God in Heaven. |
@thehomer I gave you different reasons why one may believe the Bible, you chose only one about its popularity. Tell me, is there any book as popular as the Bible, any book at all? Any book as translated in different versions in the same language and in so many different languages, in so many nations, and so long time? And you compare that to jackson, now that comparism's got nose dropping potential. The appeal to the scriptures is above natural, or ordinary. It's power on man, influence on nations, reverence by all class is what you compare to newton and plato. Are you serious at all? How's the Bible the book above all books, really? Maybe new general mathematics is then. You love objectivity but you're swimming in bigotry it seems |
March 16 Romans 16v26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith As we draw closer to the period when we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it's good we reflect on some of the things He(Jesus) has accomplished for us. Jesus Christ came to earth to open for us a new and living way. He is God's remedy for man's malady. Man wanted to be as God through partaking of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but God in the reverse wants man to be like Him through partaking of the foolishness of the tree of the cross of Calvary. The cross is now our plus(+). The devil didn't expect it, man could not imagine it, but it's now plain and manifest to all. Jesus gave the devil a technical knockout at calvary, the devil is running about with a deadly wound on his head till this day. He cannot think clearly, every believer can defeat him. We have the victory. This is the way that's manifest, this is the victory the prophets prophesied even from the old testament. It is the commandment of God. God is not a God of just a former dispensation, old testament. He is everlasting, He is eternal. And this good news is not just for the jews, or for Noah's family, or for Lot. This good news is for all nations. It is made known, we have no excuse. Jesus is not a lie fed to the blacks by white men, He's not for just one race. He is Whom the everlasting God has COMMANDED all nations to obey in faith. You are included, do not disobey. It's the best thing that ever happened to man. |
@thehomer What you want matters here. You're not inconsequential. You believe the parts of the Bible that you think shows God as brutal and unfair, but you don't want me to believe the parts that clearly show and state His love, grace and mercy? Using the Bible to justify the Bible is a fallacy, but using the Bible to condemn the Bible is what? now you're becoming unfair. Give the Bible a fair hearing na. I'm not picking and choosing the Bible, i'm only showing you parts you may have missed in your belief database. Now again, you are not irrelevant. i understand Adam fell, and all that, but don't take it too hard on yourself. Jesus wants to forgive you and lift you up again. I want to know, are you about to commit suicide or have an abortion? |
To your question on the concept of eternal punishment, i know a certain book of Daniel in the old testament. You may want to update yourself from chapter 12 of Daniel. Verse 2 should be most specific. BTW, whether old testament or new testament, it belongs to the same person. So if He tells you about it only in Genesis, or only in Revelation 22 or says it in every book, it's still His word. |
@thehomer To your first question, you're to believe the Bible because it is the book above all books. There's no book like the Bible, forever the number one best-seller. It's the book with the power to change any man in any race at any time, or can you mention any other book like that? I understand you're more exposed, educated, even cultured than the people you think wrote the Bible. maybe you should write a book like that. hehehehe. I'm just pulling your legs, don't have an heart attack. The point is that the power, glory and transforming power of righteousness in the Bible proves it's of supernatural origin. Any wise person would pay more attention to the Bible and believe it. |
Oh, so jenwit the one who doesn't believe in God or Jesus now knows what God requires? Stop deluding yourself, making satan laugh in jenwitemi. |
i'm not sure we read the same Bible, maybe it's because i read mine with the Spirit of God in me sha. The Bible is filled with the chronicle of God's love and forgiving power, not only that, i've experienced, i mean EXPERIENCED His love and forgiveness. Experience they say is the best teacher. |
i'm not sure we read the same Bible, maybe it's because i read mine with the Spirit of God in me sha. |
@jenwit The Bible doesn't talk about any abominable butcher, the Bible says God is loving and forgiving. Are we reading the same Bible, i mean the holy Bible, not some deluding article you seem to have read. |
@thehomer The Bible says God is holy and righteous and of pure eyes, don't you want me to believe that part? i know your fingers are itching to show me the parts you described, do you want me to believe that part and not believe the one I know? By the way, are you about to commit suicide or an abortion? remember Jesus loves you more than you know. |
^there's something called giving your life to Jesus, and there's a situation of also 'giving your life to the church' as you called it. What God requires is that you give your life to Jesus, it's a necessity. |
3 and 9 =39 old testament books. 3 X 9 =27 new testament books. SMOOTH. |
@op How about "why does God allow good things to happen to bad people?", whatever 'good things' or 'bad people' may refer to. God is just now, good things and bad things happen, make the best of your situation. Judgement is coming |
Even if, even if, even if one's born with a defect, a defect is still a defect. Come out of your defect in Jesus' name. |
^By now, i believe you're old enough to stop being naughty and to behave your age. I'm talking about God, if that's not clear enough, i'm refering to Jehovah God Yahweh. |
@OP It happens to me to when I am immersed in prayer guess we might never know why? for some odd reasons It doesnt happen to me often in church cause I am always distracted in church but it happens during my quiet time and when I am in tongues especially It could be embarassing tho I remember once when I was praying in church for the fruit of the womb after almost 5 years and the choir sang a certain song I just bursted out in tears and started bawling like a baby(note I am an ICE QUEEN IN REAL LIFE, I AM A HARD GIRL) I was embarrased and couldnt help it ,the more I was trying to stop crying, the more tears, sputtum, cattarh and all the un-imaginables were coming out and ruining my make up ![]() My husband was obviously in a state of shock(hes seen me cry only a handful of times) and was concern for my emotional state and naija ppl dey stare o I felt like people were thinking I was emotionally un-stable ![]() so whenever choir starts that song now I just zone out lol
Very funny |
God is not only loving and forgiving, He is also righteous, holy, just, judge, of pure eyes. He hates sin, not the sinner. He'll punish sin wherever it's found whether in sinner or saint. He'll forgive sin if the offender repents whether sinner or saint. There're some things in life you can't do much about than to adapt for your own good. The sun, night, time, God are some examples. |
March 15 Matthew 14v2 and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him. God knows His own people just like the central bank knows real currency and counterfeit. But the Bible does not say that ONLY God knows His own. Actually, He(God) said to us "by their fruits, you will know". It is not only the central bank that recognises fake money and genuine money. Even the common man CAN know. Herod the tetrarch was a religious man. Infact, he had a religious followership that were called 'Herodians'. He was not an atheist, he even knew some genuine men of God. The scriptures tell us that herod heard John baptist GLADLY. So we might see him as a lover of the Word. In today's passage, we see some religious qualities in him. But every Bible student now knows better, or at least history shows us that he was not a godly man after all. Looking only at this passage though, one might see Herod as a condescending humble person. He said unto his servants. He shared ideas with his servants, he related with them. He had a conscience. He even believed in the resurrection of the dead! Wonderful, he believed some Bible doctrines. He believed in miracles and mighty works. He had faith, he exhibited positive confession. He said that mighty works show themselves in John. He even believed that God could work miracles through John, though John had never performed a miracle. Some people today are like Herod, religious but not righteous. Christains but not christians. They are weed, an eye sore to the body of Christ. Check up yourself today. Are you a christain or a christian? |
Dayokanu, now that's so unfair to remind the hope and strength dream of 'arsenal season foreseen'. Lehmann? i do hope these guys would not finish the league as 3rd or 4th, chelsea's so near. Told this lot they need a coach, they still think its not so. |
^make your prophecies, let others see where you are on the scale na. |
Jesus knew He was going to be crucified, inevitably so; yet, He watched and prayedi beg to disagree on the bolded 'inevitably'. Jesus learned obedience and submitted Himself to God's will for Him to be crucified, that's why He was crucified, it wasN't inevitable. I asked and i'm still asking for a concise meaning/definition of 'fate' and of 'predestination'. |
