Christianity Etc › Re: Is Marrying More Than One Wife A Sin by Image123(m): 1:30am On Nov 15, 2010
Moses- where can i start with the meekest man on earth? First wife, sugar in my tea Zipporah. Second wife, ethiopian woman that got Miriam in serious trouble.
The Bible doesn't explicitly say Zipporah was dead, neither did it say she was alive when Moses married in Numbers 12.
But i believe Zipporah was dead. You ask why? One, Moses was an intelligent man, he wouldn't go to marry a second wife after writing Genesis 1 to Numbers 10 and been with God for 80days, would you? That will show that he learnt nothing from all those things written down and his encounters with God.
Two, he was more than 40years married to Zipporah and had two fine boys, quote me anywhere, they were fine boys.
Three is that he loved his family. He sent them back to Midian until the storm was literally over. Exodus 18v2-9.
Four, and why i really believe Zip died, Numbers 10v29-32 sees Moses plead with Hobab, Zip's brother to stay with him, Numbers 11 sees Moses give a heart render on loneliness, Number 12v1 sees Moses married.
Numbers 11v11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers? 13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat. 14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. 15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
Here's the man who penned down the wisdom "It is not good that the man should be alone". Seems Zip's death pained him so much he didn't write it.
I don't believe Moses deserves to be labelled a polygamist.

Bros Jacob- married more than one wife, but we all know hin get as hin be, that was why. It wasn't his plan but his uncle's trickery. Genesis 29v25-28. And you know the polytrouble he had, even when He later got serious with God abi na bornagain.
Polygamy was obviously not the norm as Laban later alluded in His vow with Jacob (Genesis 31v50). See eyebrows raised over taking other wives besides Leah and Rachel. Jacob case is an obvious mistake not to be copied.

Obviously, OT saints did not have what we NT saints have to fulfill God's law. But we should impose failings on them if they didn't have such failings. In the order mentioned,
Abraham- He was not a polygamist. God didn't see him as one. I guess you're on about Hagar, not Keturah, yet Keturah was the biblically recognised wife AFTER Sarah DIED. As for Hagar, except you're muslim, this is what the Bible calls her- maid/bondwoman.
Genesis 16v3 says Sarai took Hagai and gave her to Abram to be his wife. This is NOT what God has joined together. Neither OT nor NT EVER refer to her as wife but what she truly was. Even Abram called her maid Genesis 16v6. The angel had no such thought as wife in verse 9 "Return to your mistress not husband, and submit yourself under her.cf 21v12 When Isaac was to be sacrificed,God calls Isaac ONLY SON TWO TIMES(genesis 22v2,16). If not for Abraham's pleas, this Ishmael guy and his mum were just O.Y.O before God. Abraham was no polygamist.

Emmm. So i said 'arguably' as i felt i should post this few passages. Eg Malachi2v15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
I'm aware of the other prevalent translations and comments on this passage, but it seems to say(which Jesus Himself said) that God made one Eve/female. This verse then gives the wherefore/reason for making one. This seems explicit but for the other views.
I quote another later. On 2Samuel, here it is again.
2Samuel 12v8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
Is the emphasis not supposed to be on the whole verse (i.e expanding the kingdom if David wanted more), or on the bolded, instead of skipping and picking the plan to give out more master's wives. Welll, it's not the perfect plan though as here is the law.
Deuteronomy 17v17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

Joagbaje:
It seems you have been so clouded with this POLYGAMY/ADULTERY thing (sorry)that you are missing the point o. Was David repentance based on polygamy or murder plus adultery. He already had many wives that he didn't repent of. And God said if he wanted more wives , he, God will give him more!

If God didn't condemn Abraham,Jacob, Moses , David and Solomon for polygamy. We are not justified to condemn anyone for it.
I'm happy most are on the same anti.polygamy page on this issue. Just to add something on the arguable claims above.
I'll say again with you all, that NO christian should marry another husband or wife. Polygamy in scriptures will AT BEST fall amongst God's permissive will, not His perfect, prefered will. His perfect will is what He wants for us and what we should live by. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning. The wise man sees the evil and hides himself but the foolish moves ahead, striving for where it was EXPLICITLY written, and he is/they are punished.

Christianity Etc › Re: Today's Rhema (God's gifts to men). by Image123(op): 6:37pm On Nov 14, 2010
Before the fall, Adam worked in Eden, so much that he needed a helpmeet.
In Heaven, some living creatures are before God, forever worshipping Him, and saying 'Holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts'. I assume that's some work.
Angels are MINISTERING spirits, and Jesus said that the saints in Heaven ARE LIKE the angels. So, get busy. You have no excuse.
Expect much increase as you work, for that is The Plan, much increase.
Christianity Etc › Re: Today's Rhema (God's gifts to men). by Image123(op): 6:26pm On Nov 14, 2010
November 14 Proverbs 14v4

4. Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

God is not a lazy God. Godly people should not be lazy.
Many of us are of the idea/assumption that Adam's sin is the reason why we work. Many think that if not for Adam, we will just be sleeping and eating and sleeping and eating. Some even expect that when we get to Heaven and see Jesus, all that remains is jollity, no more work. Everybody knows how to write a letter of resignation, not many know how to write a letter of application.
More are saving more for retirement than even for the present. Yet, the true picture is that much increase is by the strength of the ox. If you want much increase, hands have to 'get dirty'. Where no oxen is, the crib is clean. You really need to labour.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard. Get up and start something. To get to the kingdom of Heaven, Jesus said "labour to enter". And so, if you really want a 'heaven on earth life', you need to labour.
Someone said that the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary. Think! that's work.
Christianity Etc › Re: Question About Church by Image123(m): 2:41pm On Nov 14, 2010
Why not ask your pastor or leader all this things, or AT LEAST read the Bible. There was a man who fell among thieves on his road down to Jericho. Somethings have a way of repeating themselves.
Christianity Etc › Re: Stop Praying To God To Give You Strength by Image123(m): 11:13pm On Nov 13, 2010
^thanks for the compliments, Nuclearboy.
@Newmi and Joagbaje
I'm not arguing against your stance on this matter, but truth is that asking and 'confessing' are two sides of the same faith coin. There's nothing wrong with children of God praying 'children's prayer' to their heavenly Father. Jesus said ASK (Matthew 7v7,cool. James said ASK (James 1v5). Peter asked for strength (1Peter 5v10). Paul asked for strength (Colossians 1v9-11). 'strengthened with all might'. Paul was also said to go about strengthening all THE disciples in Acts of the apostles.
I don't enjoy just arguing for the sake of it. It's good you grow up to recognise positional status and experiential status. Ahn, that's too much milk i guess,

chukwudi44:
This is a fact many christians are unaware of ,there are actually Seven arch angels in heaven, three were named in the canonised bible like Micheal,Gabriel and Raphael others like Uriel and Jeremiel were named in non-canonical books like Enoch and 2nd Esdras.

The actual number of seven were first given by the arch angel raphael in the book of tobit 12

tobit 12 :11-15

11 I have already told you that a king's secret ought to be kept, but the things God does should be told to everyone. Now I will reveal to you the full truth and keep nothing back.12 (C)Tobit, when you and Sarah prayed to the Lord, I was the one who brought your prayers into his glorious presence. I did the same thing each time you buried the dead.13 On the day you got up from the table without eating your meal in order to bury that corpse, God sent me to test you.14 But he also sent me to cure you and to rescue your daughter-in-law, Sarah, from her troubles.15 (D)I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand in the glorious presence of the Lord, ready to serve him

It was also repeated in the book of Revelation 8 :2

2And I saw (B)the seven angels who stand before God.
Question again is "Where did you see that God has seven archangels". There are so many figures standing before God just in Revelation only (you may check Revelation 5v6; 7v9,11 and 20v12 for some examples).
In your words to Joagbaje, i'll say "This is your own personal opinion,it has no scriptural basis"
Christianity Etc › Re: Stop Praying To God To Give You Strength by Image123(m): 3:53am On Nov 13, 2010
The truth is that faith is most important in prayer, not the structure of words used. There are so many "I'm strong", "There's a lot of money on me" confessions that are empty and even annoying.
Every one that asketh receiveth still works today. I am healed, we were healed, heal me o Lord, they ALL work. Stop this your i'm right, others are wrong doctrines.
And btw, there will be foolish virgins in that day, not all wise virgins.

Joagbaje:
@TONYE-t
There was a request so there came a response. But my point is , after the answer had come . They don't need a request again. We gave our hearts to the lord and receive eternal life. All things were credited into our account. Power authority , wealth, wisdom etc.

All we need  is to recognise what we have in christ already. So praying to God to give us what we have already is a baby prayer. You quoted

It's James that use such language.

James 1:5
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all[ men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

In truth there is no child of God that lacks wisdom. The life of Jesus christ in us has become wisdom to us.

A mature Christian won't pray to have wisdom , or righteousness or sanctification. He needs to acknowledge the presence of such in him already. If he is not seeing it manifesting, he should declare " I have the wisdom of God in me " christ is my wisdom. The life of christ is manifested through me. I am the embodiment of divine wisdom. Etc. By such declaration , he stirs up the wisdom from the inside to manifest.

No matter what you have received , if you don't acknowledge them and meditate on them. They may not show up.
Why Joagbaje are you so poisonous? I was beginning to enjoy you ehn. I'd rather a 'baby' prayer than a drunken sinful prayer. See what you commented on again.
a servant must always depend on his master for sustainence, which is where PRAYERS like GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, WHOEVER LACKS WISDOM LET HIM ASK, ASK AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN are used.
3 references, 2 are Jesus', 1 is James' if we can truly call it James' and not God's. And your verdict? James is a baby, sorry o, ancient man.

Christianity Etc › Re: Stop Praying To God To Give You Strength by Image123(m): 12:25pm On Nov 12, 2010
I get the point, but all this attention grabbing is not worthwhile. There's nothing wrong in praying for what you don't seem to have. Prayer is not only about the right words. Colossians 1v9-11. It's asking for the same thing from different but right perspectives. Those that pray shall renew strength.
Christianity Etc › Re: Holy Spirit Is Not In Heaven -joagbaje by Image123(m): 12:14pm On Nov 12, 2010
The Spirit of God and the spirits of God are the same person; God the Spirit. The plural is more an indication of His completeness, fullness. Jesus Christ is the One with Spirit without measure, in fullness.
As to Joagbaje, i think it's a subtle tactic he and his kind are used to. It's to create attention. Anything out of the ordinary tends to turn heads, it's a human quest for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Christianity Etc › Re: He Died For You. Guess Who? by Image123(m): 2:07am On Nov 12, 2010
Actually, Jesus Christ tasted death for EVERY MAN i.e every human being. He paid for our debts, took our place, took the fall and thought of us. It's come to us now to accept His payment by believing, and making an active decision to come out of prison of sin 'cause the prison doors have been opened.

I'm just passing by and almost getting the nausea.
To set the records straight, Abraham was not a polygamist, neither do i think Moses a polygamist, and Solomon was not an illegal child or a concubine's. Plus a man can commit the sin of adultery just as a woman can.
Christianity Etc › Re: Today's Rhema (God's gifts to men). by Image123(op): 3:43pm On Nov 11, 2010
The beatitudes in Matthew 5 are about blessings. Also, it is more blessed to give than to receive. In Today's passage, we see another way to be MORE blessed. He says 'Blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it. It is vital for believers to be more of listeners. It is said that God gave us two ears and one mouth, so that we should hear twice and PLUS MORE than what we say.
So, hear God's Word. And keep it. Some people hear to criticize, some hear to debate, some to discuss but Jesus said 'hear the Word of God, and keep it'. It is not even 'hear the Word of God, and understand it'. It is hear, and keep. Therein lies enduring eternal blessings.
Christianity Etc › Re: Today's Rhema (God's gifts to men). by Image123(op): 3:20pm On Nov 11, 2010
November 11 Luke 11v27,28

27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

We all love blessings. Nobody wants to be cursed or associated with curses. You will see people doing a lot of things to break curses. It is a good thing to be blessed and to be a blessing to others.
There are different levels/orders/classes of blessings. Today, there's a kind of blessing that is in the same category as saying "thank you". There's also the kind of blessing that Israel got at Jabbok when he'll not let the angel of God go, until he was blessed. We should seek for big blessings, lasting enduring blessings. The Lord Jesus teaches us so many ways we can be blessed. So many, it's unfortunate that people miss blessings.
