Marrying the town and the gown is when we churn out graduates from our tertiary institutions to meet the needs of the society- home and abroad. the gown (convocation gown) and the town (Nigeria and diaspora)
we graduate persons from diverse areas in Nigeria yet we are 'under developed!'
Last year someone once said on NL that,
“Where is the job out there? After 5 years of mental labour in the University, with aging parents and years sliding away and University strikes that impedes Masters Program? Tell me, who will not fall for the offer of a lucrative salary?”
But are we only being educated to make a living\earn a living or also to contribute to the society? The motto of my primary school which we so energetically sung back then in the 80’s and 90’s was,
“Knowledge for service is our aim, our heavenly Father we have come to achieve, our aim!”
There are so many graduates and bound projects\thesis shelved in various university libraries but so little impact on the society, where our needs are numerous. We have Elect\Elect graduates but still have electric power issues. Why can’t they convert their school thesis into something workable? Instead most of our graduates aim to earn mega bucks in oil & gas companies, telecoms companies, multi-national economic firms, ivy league law firms, federal teaching hospitals, international NGOs, lucrative federal parastatals like DPR, SEC, NNPC, NCC, etc.
They are jobs everywhere or and also job seekers! The harvest is plenty but the labourers are few. God Almighty has sent us into this world to fulfil purpose; locate yours and get to work.
I recently discussed this in a conference in the midst of employers of labour, university dons and young graduates and no one could really proffer a way out of this crippling issue of no job but many problems in Nigeria wherein job creation can fix.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Chukwu decided to relax for a while. He sat on his leather couch (MADE IN CANADA) reading a best-seller novel (PUBLISHED IN USA).
After a while he wanted to refresh himself. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), to CNN (TRANSMITTED FROM AMERICA) and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in..... NIGERIA...!
LEARN TO PATRONIZE MADE IN NIGERIA GOODS SO THAT WE CAN CREATE MORE JOBS FOR OURSELVES AND LET FOREIGNERS DOING BUSINESS GENERATE THEIR RESOURCES LOCALLY.

I think it is a great issue that although there are many people who profess and confess Christianity and Christ but have their hearts far from him, so much so that very few people get led to Jesus by our 'witnessing' in lifestyles not our words. it is kinda embarrassing and sad that we have so many pastors, Christians, churches and ministries (tract, TV, gospel musicians, gospel movies, etc) and yet evil prevails and many are still without Jesus! these remaining ones who are not believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour are not the ones who perpetuate these evils majorly. its still done by 'christians' or people who profess fear of God in other faiths! na wa oh!
i'm starting with myself, let my life bear witness of God's mercy, grace and way,truth&life.

what is it really?
America generally (i guess out of its stance on liberality and free-ness not freedom) popularized sex over and above many countries in their government, adverts, streets, religion and policies. since many countries like to take ques from them, this sex craze seems to be spreading like wild fire.
sex is good in itself but it has been corrupted. people say what is good n original is often corrupted like medicine, law, fashion, money, friendships and all.
sex is trully beautiful and good wen done in a marriage union between a man and woman.
sex outside of this is corrupt and misused
sex is a private matter like the colour of a guy's boxers or the bra size of a lady
it is not the business of the public
sex can b taught in schools for educational purposes

talked about between parents n children, spouses, counselors and all
but wen sex is brought up in a song or cartoon or Frontpage and social media
it brings a sacred issue to the open for irrelevant comments n third parties
if sex tingles or excites you, it is a problem

when u think of certain regions and ascribe only lowly things to them it shows hate, bigotry and deceit.
when ur mind goes to the North you think of cattle, forgetting they have highly educated people.
when u talk of the East u say they like money and piracy and fake products but u forget they have intellectuals, and pious, religious men.

Education can be free or not free
Awolowo gave\facilitated free education and it was qualitative, people did not abuse the privilege of free education. they were taught well and learnt well.
Donor agencies, government give scholarships and enable people go to school free, this doesn't make the learning or teaching sub-standard

Go to many private universities and even secondary schools were they pay alot of money, many of the students toy with it and are generally unserious having poor grades.
Many people have paid normal fees in schools and have gone out into the society unable to write or speak properly.

Therefore, whether school is free or not does not determine its value. Who would value education will value it.

It is often said that some of the best things of life are free such as air, life, true love, family and friends, good jobs, water, sunlight, rain, quietness, peace, ability to sleep naturally, and so on.

In as much as i have never personally evaluated the educational standard in Imo State, if the man is giving free education, all well and good. This is what many politicians say in their manifestos and fail to deliver upon victory. Prayer is that it would last and be sustainable.

Whatever went wrong with the free education in the Western part of Nigeria. Also many states in the North also provide free tuition, feeding, uniforms and books to primary and secondary school students; and some give stipends to their polytechnic and Colleges of whatever (education or agriculture) students.

Nigeria go better, Africa go better, my people go better oh, Nigeria go better.

people we should use our opportunities to better the society and promote where we are coming from (Nigeria). instead of booking space with alphabets n d likes let's drop a comment or commendation.

just like there was a call for government officials to have their children go to Nigerian public schools so should they use public hospitals. i have not heard of leaders of great countries run to other countries for medical issues. it can even lead to a breach of security and lack of regard. and they want foreigners to come and invest? how have they themselves invested in Nigeria? health-wise, education-wise, industry -wise?
