To the gurus in the house, I have a nagging question.
What happens if I have a yet to mature T.bills still running and an event such as death occur. How can my dependents get my money when it reverts back to my account?

An easy way out for me would be to my investments done in a company name and have my spouse and I as signatories to the account.

That is the plan I have. While I am comfortable with it, it may not necessarily be the best option or a suitable option for others.

Lol I traded cryptos for a little while with some small cash I had. A month later I left the remaining change with them

cheesy

GonFreecss1:

Lol! It is. In crypto people lose their life savings in seconds. Very brutal! In the NSE at least you can see some warning signs before everything goes wild.

I will say this again, NSE is heaven.

Lol! There is even opening and closing time! Una get break time for NSE. I.e. breathing time. Hahahahahaha. Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3pm. In crypto it is 24/7 Saturdays and sundays included. You will be shouting Hallelujah in church and your crytpo asset has lost 50% in 1 hour.
In crypto the market is always open! You go to sleep rich, you wake up poor, become poorer once the Asians and Americans wake up and start dumping more. Volume is not even good enough to sell at the current price you have already lost 60% in. Trust me, with the small lamentations I have seen in this Nairaland, and the people who talk and pretend but never buy anything, I say NSE is heaven, or the Treasury Bills people who think Money market funds are risky? (Hahahahaha), some even can't near stocks. I will say once again, NSE is heaven.

I can see what most of you call bear market in NSE and I laugh. Think of all the bear markets you know in Nigerian stocks and even the US dot com bubble, it's not still as bad as what crypto does. But then again, that is why there is so much potential to be a millionaire there. I mean millionaire in USD. That extreme volatility, that can make you or break you.

ARM Securities does 1% brokerage commission but I don't use them.

On Lead Capital my last trades before I left the market mid year were at 0.75% brokerage commission.

Hope this helps.

Raider76:

The high charges make high frequency trading unprofitable. The highest charge is the broker commission charge which is supposed to be variable but set not to exceed 1.35%. The other charges such as for NSE are fixed and common to all brokers. The only way one can save is to find a broker whose commission charges are significantly lower than 1.35% before negotiation. That's what I am looking for.

@house

is it a usual practice for registrars to request for BVNs before setting up eDiv?
For someone who is offshore and hears all sorts of fraud stories that touch ...

The registrar in question is Cardinal Stone

Yes it is. There is no form of registration or regularization you want to do in the financial services sector that you will not be required to produce your BVN.

Good morning guys, I'm a novice at treasury bills and want to invest about 3.6m. I went to Zenith bank and they offered me 10.5% for 91days on the secondary market. However when they did their calculations I saw that I would only be getting about 97k because they would be dividing by 365days. Is this normal? I thought that I would be getting 250 to 300k at the least? Is this how other banks work?

It has nothing to do with Zenith or other banks. In finance interest is quoted per annum. So if your holding period is less than one year, your interest is pro-rated for the time you will be holding it.

As you are a novice I will advise you to take out time to read previous pages. At least the first 20 pages of this thread and the last 20. If you can read more then do so by all means.

It will help you

My Oga. How are your GBP pairs doing grin

Abeg what indicators are you using to analyse the index?

BullBearMkt:

...I will try & do more wink

To be successful in stock trading cum investing, 1 important thing to follow is the index. Be it the general market (NSE) or individual sector (such as banking index, conglomerate index, oil/gas index etc) and look for the individual stock(s) that ready to bring out the BULLs out of the market (BULLBEARMKT).

Like the banking sector now, while the index is declining, 2 major stocks stands out - IBTC & STERLNB. I AM NOT SAYING TO BUY NOW (and actually, a little dip is good to buy). But what I'm trying to educate people about is that when the index begins to rally, these 2 banks will be leaders & outperform the market

Happy working week ahead all!

Once again, Morgan called and explained things to me, so your alarm is false sir.

They said but links are secured.

This should explain it better to you.

What is HTTPS, and why do you need it?
HTTP stands for hypertext transfer protocol. It’s a protocol that allows communication between different systems. Most commonly, it is used for transferring data from a web server to a browser to view web pages.

The problem is that HTTP (note: no "s" on the end) data is not encrypted, and it can be intercepted by third parties to gather data being passed between the two systems.

This can be addressed by using a secure version called HTTPS, where the "S" stands for secure.

This involves the use of an SSL certificate -- "SSL" stands for secure sockets layer -- which creates a secure encrypted connection between the web server and the web browser.

Without HTTPS, any data passed is insecure. This is especially important for sites where sensitive data is passed across the connection, such as ecommerce sites that accept online card payments, or login areas that require users to enter their credentials.

Bottom line for everyone I think should be it is important to invest your time and money in financial and economic education.

There are many online courses on investing and portfolio management which will teach you the different asset classes, interest rates, inflation, currency devaluation and how all these factors affect investment decisions and how to properly allocate your funds among different asset classes.

More often than not what separates the successful investors from the rest are education and experience. At least you have control over how much education you get.

Interest rates are always quoted per annum even if it is not expressly stated so. So an investment not lasting up to one year will have its interested pro rated for the number of days.

Sorry for the disappointment.

Mj45:

Pls explain. I was told 13% interest rate for a 37 days duration but when it was time to get paid, I was told that the interest rate was on per annum basis and so had to be divided by 365 days, leaving me with peanuts in the name of interest rate.
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Infinitisi(m): 6:52am On Oct 26, 2018
Thank you o. Discount from a certain price cannot be more than 100%. A discount of 100% brings the price to zero.

Agbalowomeri:

Well you are right, it's the use of the registers; discount cannot be up to 100% as long as the price is positive
For fidelity example, discount is (fairprice - currentprice)/fairprice = (6-2)/6 = 4/6 = 67%
Discount here relative to the assumed fairprice is 67%

Price appreciation or gain however, can be more than a 100%

Hi guys,

I noticed a few members made posts about being interested in the stock market but not understanding it and also not being able to follow the discussion in the thread on stock investing.

The truth is stock investigating requires a certain level of financial literacy higher than what is required to invest in TBills and the ability to analyse companies and their annual reports.

If you do not have these skills the probability that at you would lose your investment is very high. However if you are interested in investing some time to do some reading and studying I can post the links to 2 very good, easy to read books that explains how the stock market works and also how to analyse company results. They are written in a way that even if you do not have a background in finance or accounts you will understand the books easily.

However as this is not a stock market thread, the house will have to permit me to go ahead to post the links here. The material is free.
