There are many threads on the US market.

You guys can revive the one above. I find it most useful because it lays out how to go about investing in the US market with contributions from actual investors

I agree. This thread should be revived for those interested

Nice one sir. Your experience in the market clearly shows and no one can argue with it

emmanuelewumi:

I bought in the year 2000 at N20 per share.

The company gave bonus of
1 for 4 in 2003

1 for 4 in 2007

1 for 5 in 2011.

N2 million will buy 100,000 units

In 2003 it will grow to 125,000 units

In 2007 it will grow to 156,250 units

In 2011 it will grow to 187,500 units

Multiply by N1400 per share you will get N262.5 million.

Go to AGM and you will see average retirees who invested well when they are young who are earning millions from their investments.

A range rover sold for N20,000 in 1980. A flat at Iponri low cost estate was sold at N4000.

N20,000 will buy 5 of such apartments in 1980. The rental income from a flat at Iponri is between 800k and N1 million. 5 flats will now give the investor a total rental income of between N4 million and N5 million.

Some investors who bought the low cost housing unit for N4000 must have sold 10 years after for N20,000, not knowing that the party is just starting and the property can still generate rental income of over N800,000 in the future

Good day sir.

Can you kindly advise on the details required to invest in FG Bonds (not FGN Savings)?
What bodies assist individuals in FG Bonds investments?
Could you also help with current rates, minimum capital required etc.? I have checked the CBN website, only to find rates provided from the primary listing.
Is there a thread on FG Bonds as well?

Thanks a million.

My brother I tire. I don't understand the needless comparison/back and forth. The philosophy behind TA and FA are like 2 parallel lines. Do both strategies make money. The answer is YES. People should be more concerned with-

1. Is my choice of TA or FA best suited to my temperament/personality.

2. Do I have the necessary skill sets to make money consistently using whichever style I choose to adopt. If I don't what is my plan to acquire those skills.

The difference between successful traders or investors and those who are unsuccessful is not luck. It is knowledge and experience.

OakPearl:

Here lies the difference between jijoists and long termers.
Until both camps come to the reality that each camp's strategies are completely different and therefore their outcomes will never be the same, this needless argument of which is superior will never stop!

My brother accumulate your gains and prepare for your bumper dividends if you are keeping long term.
They paid 65kobo last financial year end in spite of the UPDC burden on them.
They had paid N1/share before the last.
Imagine what amount of cash they will have to play with going forward, having already discontinued UPDC in their most recent Q3 result.

If they have not done their own reading and findings, they cant even understand what they discuss in the group. That is why some people still dont understand what they discuss on stock market thread cos they have not done their readings, joining is not the main point but knowing the details of where you want to invest your hard earned monies

True. Investing in the stock market takes a level of financial literacy and/or chart reading skills that lots of people underestimate or do not realise.

All the forums, groups and stock tips of this world will not help you if you do not have a level of grounding personally.

You need to put in the man hours and rigorous study. If you cannot do not bother

Hello all, those who live in the diaspora. How do you get the naira to your Nigerian bank account for trading purpose? I used to send USD to someone who later changes at abokifx rate and then sends the money to my naira account. However, he is beginning to delay the process lately and by the time he transfers the naira to me, my desired stock is already trading higher than the amount it was sighted.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Look for a reputable BDC you can deal with. You transfer dollars to them and they credit your naira account.

I use Everdon BDC. Never had to step into their office before. I don't even know where it is. everdonbdc.com

Good evening all,
Please I need your assistance on the following am new to stocks trading:
I bought some stocks today through morgan iTrade but I have not received my contract notes by email, how do I go about it and when will I get the certificate? Thanks

I don't use Morgan but you should be able to download it from their itrade platform.

You do not get certificates for stocks bought on the floor of the stock exchange. Your stocks are domiciled with the CSCS.

You can always ask your broker to print out your CSCS account for you or you subscribe directly to CSCS for N2,500/annum and have online access you your account.

I just logged in to witness the ranting of a senile fellow.
Why are u folks begging that half-baked being?
That dude is a jenus-face whose precedence paints of no less than a deceptive personality !!
If he is not called to order, people like him can infest the very true essence of this honourable forum. He has a very bad antecedent.
My 1st revert was for him to explain or at least point us to how the management of FCMB had played pranks with shareholders. Now what a sensible person would've done to show that he wasn't blabbing is to take me up on the matter... so with laid down FACTS, we can peruse in totality the banks financial print.
...but because it was his usual blabbing, he couldn't.

When someone puts out ludicrous computations or baseless assumptions, they should be corrected. ...and where they continue to do so, then they should be called to order.
But for anything, for the sake of the new and susceptible ones in our midst !!
This place is NOT for bogus miscreants who parade themselves as what they are not.

I stand for the TRUTH and nothing more but it.
...and I am not one that can be threatened !!
@ Locodemy how and where do u want the offline thing u so badly blasphemed about?
...tell me; Just how DO U WANT IT !!

As I said before, I know a bit of u... but unlike u, I do not need to rant to ACT !!

OGG just a piece of friendly advice. How you say something is very much as important (sometimes more important) than what you have to say. Get the first part wrong, it will rubbish the second part also.

Pardon me if I sounded too harsh. But you could have read what the reader wrote and know it was wrong.

It is like writing 2 + 2 = 22 and you say you want to table it down for people to discuss. For you not to see that it was wrong could mean that you are a newbie in stock market or that you don't know basic maths which I had to urge you to study first.

Have you collected Dividends before? Have you sold or bought shares before? Have you check your purchase or sale receipts to see what constitutes fees brokers charge? If you say you have been buying stocks but don't know about these, then what have you been doing since?. These are the basics of stock investment.

If you had forwarded that reader's comment as a 'comic relief' , we would all laugh because for you to tag it comic relief, it shows that you know the basics. Rather you forwarded it for discussion.

Oracle there are people who don't have the faintest idea or have very wrong notions about the workings of the stock market. I have met people who seriously think companies make a percentage of their shares bought and sold on the NSE or a company's profitability is hinged in part on their share price.

Nairametric should have censored that post because it was a disgrace. The reader doesn't even under anything about investment world.

And for a member here to call for discussion of it here and warning jijoist to be careful shows that the member too doesn't understand a thing about investing on stock.

You can't just repeat crap as true! If the poster was a buyer of stock, he should have known that there is an aspect of that reader's comment that is false and that has to do with VAT on dividend (5% of Total consideration).

We really need to advocate for the financial literacy of the Nigerian youth/populace.

OLAJADON:

Please don't be annoyed if I am not able to scroll through the over 5 thousand pages of the trend.
1) How are you able to know the best stock for u to buy and sell and when to buy and sell?
2) Like forex because I have little knowledge of it, are there also strategies used in stock exchange?
3) Also someone posted a question of if he can start with as low as #5,000 but I didn't see any reply
4) On a trend(can't remember the specific one) someone was talking about chaka, wealth.ng, I-invest, afrinvest that they are use to buy and sell stock so I decided to google chaka but the issue is how do I know when to buy and sell and which of them is the best u recommend?

To succeed in the stock market you need knowledge, far more knowledge than people realise. Without adequate knowledge/financial literacy you are only going to crash. From your questions it is obvious you have little or no knowledge about the stock market. So what I advice are these:

1. You need to first understand what shares/stocks are and how the stock marker works. This is very important. Go online and look for books that explain how the stock market works in simple terms. You can try the one in this link https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/introduction-to-stock-markets/ pls note I haven't read the book and the author is Indian so he will be talking about the Indian stock exchange. But the principle is the same across the world.

2. Decide if you want to be a fundamentalist or a technical trader. A fundamental investor analyses the companies financial results and looks for good, financially healthy stocks to buy at prices lower than what they are worth. He buys to hold for a long time and enjoy long term capital appreciation and/or dividends. He may also sell if prices rises to a level he feels the stock is over prices. The technical trader on the other hand uses technical analysis (just like forex trading) to analyse stock charts and take advantage of short term trading opportunities, buying low and selling high. So decide which side you want to belong and study along that line. You can also combine both strategies. Some do it here.

For a basic intro to fundamental analysis download and read this https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/fundamental-analysis/

For a basic intro to technical analysis download and read this https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/technical-analysis/

3. Do yourself a favour and read the first 50 pages of this thread. Then you can read the last 50 pages of this thread too and from now on keep following the thread. A lot of useful information can be found here and some of your questions will have already been answered here.

4. LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT DO NOT PUT A KOBO IN THE STOCK MARKET TILL YOU HAVE STUDIED AND HAVE AT LEAST A FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE STOCK MARKET IS AND KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTAL AND/OR TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Give yourself time. The stock market is here and is nor running away.

Good luck.

Also I live in Owerri and first bank money market fund does not have a branch in Owerri. Is there a better option for me?

You can top up anytime. A lot of money market funds have online account opening functions I will be surprised if FBN Quest does not have.

Send them an email and they will guide you. Worst case they will send you the forms, you fill and scan back to them.

A lot of interesting Zenith experiences and opinions so far.

As our faces are different, so are our strategies.
For me, Zenith remains a cash cow and nothing will make me sell unless anything goes wrong in their books. It has continued to generate steady flow of dividends which even enables me to cherry-pick bargain stocks during bear periods.

Some stocks remain untouchable in my portfolio as long as they remain fundamentally sound.
If Zenith like make e drop to N9, with the current performance, I will load more.

If you intend to make capital appreciation of 30-50% for instance, why buy Zenith when there is an FBNH?
But when you are looking for high dividend yield, you buy a Zenith and care less about how it moves.

Everybody can't be doing the same thing.

Just develop your strategy and stick to it otherwise, the many different opinions and strategies of others can make you loose your identity.

Spot on. Couldn't have said it better. Not having your own strategy and just doing anywhere belle face based on other people's strategy and opinion will only lead to heartache.

Guys, I got a mail from a fellow Nairalander. He asked a question, and he's given me permission to post here.
Bamofi, I'm sorry for not being able to respond on time. I'm still trying to recuperate from a surgery. I'll log-out immediately I post your request:

Hello bro, I have been a silent reader on NL for more than a decide mostly on stock and property sections. I registered recently as I wanted to ask questions on means of following trade on stocks listed on the REIT board of the NSE. About a month ago I bought a sizeable quantity of updcreits at N5 because I saw on the NSE corporate disclosure that the will pay about 62k dividend in November. My stockbrokers say they do not know how I can follow trade in the stock online realtime. You recently asked question about the stock hence my contacting you. My question is whether you know how I can follow trade in the stock o line as I want to sell immediately I qualify for dividend. The stock is updcreit, not updc. Having just registered am not yet allowed to post on nsepa. You may also help me post the query on Nl too. Thanks. Bamofi 1

If he means how he can trade online then he needs to open an account with a broker who has an online platform and transfer the shares in updcreit from the old broket to the new ones

If this upward trend in prices is maintained, those trapped in dead stocks should be on the lookout for opportunities to exit.

You don't have to wait till you break even. Before prices reach that point they may plummet again and you are back to ground zero.

Major reservations are that their online portal is not really real time and their commission is not the lowest. if your plan is to trade often these two issues are vital. For a trader Morgan is better.

If you have a computer, download their desktop application - Leadatrader Pro. Its online and realtime. Very similar to the Morgan Capital platform
