lurvy: I took time to read this post up to six times but still couldnt understand what you wrote there... i think it will be better you read through ur posts before posting, this will enable others to understand you better. English communication isnt that difficult i guess.

Everyone else seems to understand sufficiently, perhaps the problem is you? Ikenna351 is simply expressing his passion for cars as best he can, in this case perfect Queen's english is not a prerequisite. No need for you to be rude, if you dont understand, go to a different thread!

Had the same issue on an SUV, we did an alignment, balancing AND rotation.
In the process, we noticed one of the wheels was bent, probably from hitting a pothole at high speed. Repaired the wheel, and voila, vibrations gone!
BTW, I dont hear people talk about tyre rotations in Nigeria - tyres wear unevenly, and need to be properly rotated from time to time to reduce wear and rebalance the vehicle.

naijacutee:

As a web company with a limited physical presence (if I presume correctly), how can their overheads in a country where the cost of living is relatively low, possibly swallow up their strategy? I still don't get it.

Cost of living has relatively little to do with it, actually. Perhaps only to the extent that certain business inputs, such as human resources, would be low cost. Any business thrives or dies based on revenue. Most internet business models still have not grasped the concept of revenue generation. It has to be sufficient revenue to sustain the business, and even turn a profit for the investors! After the first, even second, round of funding has been depleted, how do you "keep the lights on"?

Groupon and DealDey, I would hope, generate revenue primarily from fees and advertising. Whether or not it is sufficient revenue remains to be seen. I would not be surprised if there is also a sourcing / retail logistics element on the back end also.

If N5M were not unreasonable for a 2008 Land Cruiser in great condition, Sir, I'll bet you would have found one already! Good luck with that.

uihebom: Do you guys know how shameful dis youwin thing is?a whole FG worth Billions of naira, and they are just giving 1 or 2 peopl 1million every month or wat. I just hope oyibo no hear dis kind thing, dey will know we are all jokers in dis country.

emiye: I will say it over and over again, this is absolute hog wash. I believe the grant to 1200 people is real. The cost-benefit analysis of the project is NEGATIVE. The Federal Govt. claims to be making or expanding businesses for 1,200 entrepreneurs in a country where there are over 50 million employed youths. They are drawing water from an ocean with a bucket with the aim of drying up the ocean, they are jokers.

@ uihebom - you sound like an angry, disillusioned youth, probably frustrated at the waste and corruption in Nigeria. That is understandable. What is unreasonable, is your expectation that your government owes you a handout! What is this based on? How much have you paid to the Nigerian government in taxes to have such expectations of them? Even if the FG's coffers were a bank account, you would have to make deposits first to expect a withdrawal, no? The Nigerian government is NOT infact based on a socialist system, and does not owe you a duty of redistribution of wealth!

@ emiye - The best way, in reality, to dry up an ocean (to borrow your metaphor) is bucket by bucket. Where resources are limited, you make the best of what you have, and little by little, you attack the problem and with everyone working together, playing their respective roles!

This programme is one of many geared towards the goal of encouraging entrepreneurship and alleviating poverty. It will not solve everyone's problems, but then it is not aimed at solving the world's issues. It is a small step towards a bigger goal. Doubting Thomases, step aside!

This is how "celebrities" end up broke, telling a rags to riches back to rags sob story.
Some of you may say none of your biz, let him spend it. Perhaps, so when/if they do go broke, let it be none of our biz, and dont bother us with the story either.

Hello All!
I have a client, expatriate former bank executive, who wishes to offer for sale his 2 vehicles, in great condition!
Both were official vehicles, very low mileage, US specification, well kitted out, incredibly well cared for. He is returning to his country, hence the sale.
They are both in like new condition. Better than Tokunbo!

1. 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser, V8
Black exterior on tan interior, leather, back up camera, navigation, DVD the works!
N8M

2. 2008 Toyota Camry, top of the line
Grey exterior, leather, DVD etc.
N2.8M

If you are in the market for any of these vehicles, please let us know. Serious interest only, please.
We will arrange a viewing and we insist that you bring your mechanic to assure you of the cars mechanical condition.

charsobodo: Perhaps I guess that this is done to increase the friction between their palms and the ball.

redcliff: TO increase the friction and for better grip of the ball cos most times when a shot is fired it comes with sand and its a tad slippery. (in a dry way)

Actually most liquids cause slip, REDUCING friction. Friction is enhanced by dryness.
Not sure about football, but in baseball, pitchers would coat the ball in saliva to reduce the friction between the ball and their dry gloves. This was said to improve the distance and momentum of the ball. How? Well physics really. Apparently, friction causes high spin on the ball. Now with this spin, the ball tends to drop quicker. When the ball is wet (a nasty, sloppy wet blob of saliva), there is less friction, and ergo less spin. The ball travels a bit farther before it drops.

I guess logically, saliva would improve grip. Rubber or latex does seem to grip better when slightly wet. Try rubbing two rubber or latex items together, then add a bit of saliva and see what happens.

lol.
Probably kind of like the reason I fall asleep when I attempt to use cruise control - it requires less of my attention / work combined with the hum and motion from the car, and I succumb to a false sense of comfort. Also, frankly, sometimes the person driving is too chatty or too b.i.t.chy about other equally crazy Lagos drivers, and I shut them out by pretending to sleep grin grin

Car Talk / Re: Toyota Camry Vs Toyota Avalon: Your Preference And Why? by infolpf: 4:38pm On Dec 30, 2012
This question in a sense is like asking "Mercedes E class or Mercedes C class"? The Camry and Avalon are siblings, but the Avalon is definitely the elder, better built and more affluent sister. If you can afford the Avalon (not just purchase price, maintenance also) and you dont mind driving a longer (8 inches), boxier car, then by all means buy it. If you want a relatively more compact, trendier, younger style, Camry is for you. I find both a bit too low for bad Nigerian roads, though, so be careful.

Car Talk / Re: People Hide Plate Number Of Cars For Sale: Why? by infolpf: 4:18pm On Dec 30, 2012
I agree with Tampa1871. As one who has sold a couple of cars for clients, I can answer this from my perspective - my clients are usually relatively high net worth individuals who eschew any kind of publicity. They feel their car tags are easily recognizable, and dont want City people carrying a story. I can just see it now "Alhaji ___ is broke, selling off all assets, pictures included!!". As a matter of fact, a friend recently sold his Aston Martin, and didn't even want a picture posted. To preempt your question - no, they most definitely were not stolen.

This makes me wonder, why do we as Nigerians always think the worst of one another? 2 posters immediately jump to the conclusion that the cars most be stolen. Is this based on reality or just perception? Are Nigerians really that bad? If we feel this way about one another, why are we so resentful and downright hostile when outsiders voice similar opinions of us? Dont mean to derail the post, Just wondering.

Properties / Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Abroad Remain Tenants When They Are Back Home? by infolpf: 2:22am On Nov 12, 2012
@ Sagewood -

You question the availability of property under $30K? Look at the listing pictures attached, houses for sale around metro Atlanta, GA. Dont take my word for it, the prices are listed. All under $30k (N4.8M)!!
Purchasing some units for another investor client with $450,000 to spend, and she is going to end up with a portfolio of between 15 to 22 homes. At an average rent of only $450 per month, equals monthly income of $9K (N1.4M) per month, assuming all units are rented out.

In the end, people will invest where they feel most comfortable.

Mine was a terrible one. My company gave me a brand new official car a Toyota Yaris dark blue color just that very day that i was driving it home, along grammar school bus stop in Ojodu area of lagos, i stopped by to take a bottle of cold beer only for me to come out to see a little girl hawker(about 13 years) with a nail drawing a tree and alphabets on the door of my car. Infact when i caught the girl, i beat the living day light out of her, and locked her awhile in the car, Till today whenever i see the marks i feel so bad.

Dude, no be child abuse be dat? There's a difference between spanking and "i beat the living day light out of her", and you locked her a while in your car? If I were the parent, I would have you charged with kidnapping. Well, at least you admit that you feel bad.
Car Talk / Re: Has A Kid Ever Scratched Your Car? Like Written A, B. C... by infolpf: 1:34pm On Nov 10, 2012
Very interesting thread. Now I am not by any means a child psychologist, but I will try to offer an educated guess:

1. The kids are probably unaware of the significance of their actions - I dont think we have a bunch of evil kids running around! That is, except the Nlander who broke off the antenna on the dirty car. Thats just pure evil grin
2. This is a direct indictment on the state of parenting first, and second, education in Nigeria. Too many kids running around without instruction, values and structure.
3. Is it possible that kids resort to writing on objects because they sincerely wish to practice learning, but do not have appropriate writing material?

If I use my 4 year old son as an example, he now knows (yes from a few spankings) not to write on walls etc, but once when he was about 2 yrs old, he drew a stick picture of me, and proudly called my attention to it. How do you punish such a child? I calmly told him it was pretty, and explained how he had done wrong. Now, I would be lying if I said it never happened again, the next time I spanked him but then made printing paper readily available, and left coloring books and pencils at strategic locations around the house. It has never happened again.
