This is the time to know real friends.

The ones that will tell you the bitter truth...

The ones that can look Odegbami in the face and tell him to wake up from his dream. The least they could do is offer him some medications for malaria.

Romance › Re: Why Don't We See Rich Nigerian Single Ladies Marry Not-so-rich Nigerian Guys? by InvertedHammer: 10:57pm On Sep 27, 2015
humilitypays:
Some days ago, I and a friend who recently returned from abroad were gisting about life, and one thing led to another, we ended up discussing Nigerian issues like- insecurity in the northeastern Nigeria, abnormal increase in graduate unemployment, politics, and of course romance; basically the rate at which true love is fading away in Nigeria of our time.

It was at this point that my friend started telling me stories of how Nigerian ladies abroad (especially those living in US and UK according to him) play hard-to-get and difficult for Nigerian guys living abroad, especially if they discover that the guy isn't from a wealthy family back in Nigeria.

He revealed to me that many Nigerian guys living in US and Uk would love to marry Nigerian ladies living there, but that the problem is that Nigerian ladies don't always make it easy for Naija guys living there with them to approach them and that most of the Naija ladies there usually flock around a Nigerian guy there if they notice that the guy is from a wealthy Nigerian family or at worst, studying medicine or working as a doctor there.

He also mentioned that he has observed that Nigerian ladies who come from wealthy family backgrounds or those who worked hard to become rich themselves will never agree to date or marry a Nigerian guy who isn't richer than them or popular; that's a celebrity.

His statement shocked me because exactly what he said was also my thought having observed things here in Nigeria for some time now, and some months ago, I also overheard a group of guys discussing same thing at a gathering I went to.

Now, I want to throw this question open to Nigerian ladies of all social status, since nairaland is a popular forum where people of all class visit...please no insults, I just want to hear your opinion.

Why don't we see more of rich single Nigerian ladies date or marry not-so-rich Nigerian guys? Is it a crime or does it mean Nigerian ladies only develop love when they see or smell wealth and success?

At least, we have witnessed or heard of several cases of wealthy Nigerian guys date and marry poor Nigerian girls from poor families who don't even have a job, but on the other hand, we rarely hear or see rich Nigerian single ladies date or marry not-so-rich Nigerian guys; I am not even talking of dating or marrying broke guys, I mean guys who aren't that rich or popular.

Before anyone come calling for my head, please kindly sit back and observe things in your area of residence; you will notice that we now have plenty number of Nigerian single ladies working in big companies and earning fat salaries, some are born into wealth, some have become rich doing business, yet these ladies are single probably waiting for a rich or richer guy to come ask them out and marry them, hence making it difficult for them to find husband.

But in other countries of Africa, Europe, Asia, and Americas, rich ladies date and marry broke and not-so-rich guys without issues, but is seems to be different in Nigeria, why plshuh

What then is the need of fighting for feminism and gender-equality if NIgerian ladies can't embrace the changes that comes with gender equality/feminism?

Let me give some examples:

Linda Ikeji, Genevieve Nnajia, Rita Domnic, Funke Akindele, Tonto Dikeh, Kate Henshaw, etc

Believe it or not, Linda Ikeji wants to marry, but she's probably waiting for one rich guy or son of a former minister, governor, MD, etc to settle down with.....same with Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Domnic, Funke Akindele, and so many others that are not that popular but rich or come from rich family background.

Does it mean that rich Nigerian guys dating and marrying poor or not-so-rich Nigerian girls are foolshuh

At least Marriah Carey married poor Nick Cannon...and many of such cases abound in western countries, but rarely happen in Nigeria, why? Something is wrong somewhere, can someone please explain.

Note:
I am not saying its a crime for a lady to date or marry rich guy, neither am I saying that a lady must date/marry broke guy, I am just curious as to why it is rare to hear that a rich single Nigerian lady is dating or married to a guy who isn't rich?
/
A very good observation.

A good majority of the so-called well-off Nigeria ladies are into nursing which gets them about $100k/year. Is that a lot of money? No. But coming from Nigeria, it is. They want a man who earns something similar or more. A lot of Nigeria single males when their incomes go up tend to gravitate towards foreigners. Perhaps, in areas like Atlanta or Houston with a large congregation of blacks per square mile, they may marry fellow blacks. But in fast paced metropolis like NY or southern California, the chance of marrying a foreigner is higher. It could be fellow African but not necessarily Nigerian. Who wants to deal with all the in-laws feeling of entitlement BS?

Coming to Nigeria, there are many factors at play. Nigerians love class--Either you belong or you don't. The ladies are scared of gold-diggers. I will not rule out that some of them may be "closet lesbians". Really? Well, rate of lesbianism in secondary school level alone is very alarming. But the society will make them remain closet lesbians for fear of ostracization. I always have the opinion that the greatest obstacle to marriage for Linda Ikeji will be her siblings. A suitor has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he is not there to block their access to the infringe benefits they get from her. Otherwise, nobody will be good enough for her until she turns around and she is 50.

Here comes the disclaimer: I could be wrong.

Mr Economist,
If banks don't accept $€¥£¥, how will BDCs operate and traders operate??
/
They operate by taking it to the airport so that EFCC will take it all. Now they are back to zero. They would be caught anyway. Travelling with the green passport is a sure of guaranteeing extra security screening in major airports around the world. They should be glad they were apprehended in Nigeria.

I can give you names. I know in Guangzhou for instance, you don't need to come with foreign currencies from Nigeria. You deposit naira into a local bank in Nigeria and receive the Rehmnibi or dollar equivalent as soon as you get there from the business men over there. I know the service was extended to other countries. Do you think importation stopped because of the new foreign currency policy in Nigeria? Trust Igbo boys. This set up has been in effect for years. I don't rely on hearsay.

Universally, anything up to $10.000, even if the post erroneously said it's $5000, not reported to the Customs at the Airport is an offense.

This is not a tribal thing.

Those Trying To Make this a witch hunt thing, are full of mischief.

All the traders needed to do was declare their MONEY.

Trying to sneak a large amount of money out of the country, knowingly or not, is an offense.

They broke the law, and there are consequences for that. And remember, ignorance is not an excuse before the law, incase they claim they did not know they were breaking the law.
/
Undeclared fund if above stipulated amount is usually confiscated until detailed investigation is completed.

But that in itself is not an excuse to drive to a market to start seizing funds from traders

By the way, the traders must be stupid to be carrying such huge amount of money on themselves.

Family › Re: My Brother's Fiancee Is An Ex-prostitute Have Slept With. Should I Tell by InvertedHammer: 4:30am On Sep 26, 2015
seunfunmi33:
In 2012, I was transferred to ibadan. I have lots of girlfriends in lagos and don't want to date any new girl in ibadan, so me and my friend that was transferred to ibadan together became regulars at a brothel. Me and my friend had just 2 customers we patronize.

6 months later (early 2013) I was transferred back to Lagos . After I left, I do invite one of the girls to Lagos because she is too good in bed till I lost her contact when my phone got lost (December 2013).

We all travelled home yesterday due to sallah celebration. I was surprised when I saw my younger brother come with the prostitute in ibadan and introduced her to me as his fiancee. I just stood there not knowing what to do because I was expecting the girl to feel somehow and but she didn't even show any fear. Throughout the day She was everywhere cooking and joking with everybody around there.

I thought she was pretending not to know me but I didn't confront her, so I asked for some of her pix from my brother and sent it to that my friend if he knows the girl and he was quick to tell me that's the girl I do bleep in ibadan. But when I told him of the relationship between my brother and the girl, he told me to tell our parents and my brother so they can cancel the relationship that the girl isn't worth it.

Now am confused, I don't know if the girl is pretending or she doesn't recognize me anymore because of her numerous customers. I don't know if I should tell my brother or just keep quiet. Advice me pls
/
You owe it as a duty to tell your brother.

Whatever he does with that information is entirely up to him.
How can you live with yourself keeping this information away from your "brother".
If I were your brother and find out that you kept such information from me, I will never forgive you in my lifetime.
What kind of a brother are you? And they say blood is thicker than water. SMH.
I will tell him even if he is just a friend, and you are here talking about a blood brother.

Did she change? Who knows. But that's not your problem.

Education › Re: At What Point Can We Say That One Is Educated? by InvertedHammer: 3:52am On Sep 26, 2015

Ok, i have a cousin who is 27, the father is a big time millionaire, now, this my cousin has 4 other siblings who are all graduates, but he is an SSCE holder. Given that he was not too 'bright' academically, the father had him join the family business when he was 20, this guy speaks and writes English almost as good as the best, speaks fluent French, and has traveled to at least 10 countries outside Africa, and doing extremely well for himself, at 27.

I remember about 5 years ago when i was discussing this my cousin with a friend, and my friend told me that the best thing my cousin will do is to get an education first. And this got me thinking, at what level can we say that one is educated? what exactly is education? does it mean that without 'conventional education' that one will most likely be doomed? is it right to say that all university graduates are educated? is it also right to say that anybody without tertiary institution qualification is not educated?
/
Education is a very broad topic. But from your discussion with your friend in this case, it seems he meant university education (having university certificate). Does it make any difference? I don't know but there is something about passing the university phase in life that makes a difference. Your friend may be right. Your 27-years old cousin is good though but could be better. He is enlightened but not formally educated just as a whole lot of educated people are not enlightened. Take NL folks for example (**I just have to railroad NLers into this discussion)

My respect for Jonathan is that he allowed our INDEPENDENT democratic institutions to grow, compared to his predecessors, such that we all can take up more role and responsibility in how we are governed. This is what many mistook for weakness.
Nevertheless data from credible observers show that his focus on SYSTEMS rather than Ad-hoc media friendly noisy interventions paid off even in corruption as reported by Transparency International.

I know a lot of Nigerians are expecting God to come down and fix Nigeria. It is not going to work.

Every work goes through a process. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a step.

A building must start from foundation, and takes one block at a time.

There are many things wrong in Nigeria, but doing nothing or playing an ostritch like Jonathan did is worse.

I comment not as a PDP or APC member. As stated earlier, I don't even know what a voter's card look like.

Romance › Re: 10 Reasons To Marry A Female Doctor by InvertedHammer: 3:08pm On Sep 25, 2015
MrsPhyno:
1. Owo, kudi, ego. If she's not stinkingly rich grin, she will at least be financially stable. /walks away singing owo ni koko/

2. She no only make brain, she get brain! To be a doctor, you pretty much HAVE to be smart. I mean who's gonna let a dullard prescribe drugs or deliver their baby or cut them open??!! So a female doctor will most definitely be a brainiac. A wise man would want a wife like this to pass down excellent genes to his children. cool

3. She no dey fear.... Well at least not bodily issues. She's seen almost every nasty thing one can see about the human body. So that ur nasty boil angry won't make her vomit angry

4. She work past pack mule Medicine no send whether you be female, pregnant, delicate, sensitive, etc. angry If you're a doctor you must work hard, stay up all night, do long hours, think on your feet. So a female doctor can never be lazy and must be diligent. Being hardworking is a great trait for a wife.

5. Their mouth sweet pass lacasera This isn't well known, but female doctors are excellent talkers. They can go from talking dirty to discussing the flaws in Buhari's new government. They can handle most topics because they have a lot of exposure. This kind of wife is fun because you guys will always enjoy gisting.

6. They can keep you (and your kids) safe They know which medicine to take, what is the sign of so-and-so infection, they know which animal is poisonous, in fact they can even save your life with CPR! How many men's wives can do that?!

7. They appreciate life I mean, We all do. But the female doctor has a unique perspective. As a female, she probably brought a life or two into the world (gave birth to her own kids). As a doctor, she probably witnessed a number of deaths. So she gets this amazing perspective on life that few have and that enables her to treasure her family that much more.

8. She no dey nag I know I know. It sounds too good to be true. But how, after working so hard, taking care of you and the kids; she wan come find time to dey nag about nonsense. She won't even have energy.

9. They fine dieee This one maybe a bit of hyping sha grin grin But truly truly. I've never met an ugly female doctor before. They are always either beautiful or at least okay. Besides with their intelligence and white coats, they always seem to have some sex appeal even if they're not thaaat pretty.

10. Sex They sabi anatomy wellaaaaar. Need I say more wink

You must be young and living on fantasy island.

If you marry an old doctor, then your assertions are right.

But a young doctor wife that will be spending hours away from the family during residency program that lasts years is not most people's
idea about marriage. And most young female doctors fall under this category. It is not as rosy as your noted, trust me.

What is happening in Nigeria has nothing to do with body language or whatever symbolic metaphor people ascribed to it.

Buhari applied the most effective catalyst to make civil servants sit up--he fired many bosses. At a point, it was a daily/weekly occurrence. A typical black person is prone to fear and averse to pain. And like pupils bring watched by a cane-wielding menace of a teacher, the once errant senior civil servants had to behave accordingly.

That is one area Jonathan acted a fo.ol. The impunity during his 8-years usurp of the Presidency was unprecedented, and disheartening just to say the least.

Even in the offices, the greatest power the bosses have over their subordinates is the ability to fire errant employees. What else? How many folks will work diligently if loss of employment is not an option?

So you meet this lady--wonderful personality and a good job. Everything is going great and you find out her parents are divorced. And that is your deal breaker? Some of you need some maturity. You want a girl from a so-called stable family? Some married men are the women in the relationship. Is that the family you want to get into? I think marriages fail in Nigeria because people are very interested in peripheral factors like family name, wealth, etc and in that process sacrifice their happiness. And when the inevitable happens, God forbid a Nigerian takes full responsibility for his/her bad judgment. It just has to be juju, the devil or an uncle in the village.
