Err erm!  Before anyone gets into an argument over any links posted by me, I did not authenticate the contents of the site or the opinion therein.  I only wanted to post pictures.  And found the items I posted.

I can't get into a debate about it at this time.  I've got no leg to stand on.  cheesy

However, I also did say I have not seen convincing evidence that shows Oduduwa line of Yoruba kingdoms of Eko and Ile-Ife came before the Bini monarchy of Oduduwa's people.  It doesn't mean Yoruba society, history and religion does not deserve its esteemable place in world history.

The issue at hand is, which oft-discussed Oduduwa monarchy/lineage predates which?  Specifically, the ones of Ife or Bini, since they are so intertwined.  At least, that's what I understand the query to be.

P.S.: I'm a champion, advocate and proponent of Yoruba culture and traditions.  But not at the expense of anyone else the truth.  Don't get the wrong idea.  smiley

PhysicsQED: I would say Ife.
I can't reach that conclusion just yet, Scientific one.  The Bini monarchs have a longer and more detailed account of their reign going back at least 3 times as long as the history of the the Obas in Yorubaland, specifically, Ile-Ife, and Eko, with which I'm more familiar.  I have yet to see a full account of the Eko Obas going back beyond the mid 1600s.  Conversely, the Binis can tell us about their kings going back to gbongbonron.

Ojukwu responding to treatment – APGA chairman

By Ozioma Ubabukoh
Tuesday, 28 Dec 2010
The Punch

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, on Tuesday said that ailing ex-Biafran warlord Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was responding to treatment in a United Kingdom hospital.

Umeh, who said he had maintained contact with people that accompanied Odumegwu-Ojukwu on the medical trip, however, tasked those interested in his health to pray for him.

He spoke against the backdrop of rumours in Nigeria and in London that the former warlord passed on Sunday.

“Ikemba is alive and responding well to treatment. It is not true that he is dead. I urge anybody who has concern for his health to pray for his quick recovery instead of speculating that he is dead,” Umeh said.

The APGA chairman described the rumour of Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s death as “false and very unfortunate.”

Umeh called on everyone, including the media, to exercise restraints over the present state of Ojukwu’s health since “there is nothing to hide.”

He said, ‘‘We thank Nigerians for their concern over Dim Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s state of health and we assure them that we will continue to provide the exact information about his rate of recovery. What is important now is that we pray for his recovery.‘‘

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is down with Cerebral Vascular Accident (stroke), was on Thursday flown to the united Kingdom on board a German air ambulance for further treatment.

He was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu nine days ago but was later moved to the Intensive Care Unit after he was diagnosed with CVA.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu was born on November 4, 1933 at Zungeru, Niger State, to one of Nigeria’s earliest millionaire businessman and pioneer President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Sir. Louis Phillippe Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

He began his educational career in Lagos.

At 13, his father sent him to the UK to study at Epsom College, England. He left Epsom at 18 for Lincoln College, Oxford.

At Oxford University, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Modern History. He later earned a Master’s degree in history at Lincoln College, Oxford University, before he returned to the country in 1956.

At 11, Odumegwu-Ojukwu was briefly imprisoned for assaulting a white British colonial teacher, who humiliated a black woman at King’s College, Lagos. The incident generated widespread coverage in local newspapers. *

The ex-Biafran warlord joined the civil service in Eastern Nigeria as an Administrative Officer for Udi District in Enugu State on his return to the country in 1956.

In 1957, within months of working with the colonial civil service, he left and joined the military as one of the first and few university graduates to join the army as a recruit.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu rose to the rank of a Lt.-Col. in the Nigerian Army, before he was appointed the Military Governor of the then Eastern Region by the regime of the late Maj.-Gen. Johnson Aguyi-Ironsi.

lol, you're a funny person!!!

you got me laughing really loud!!! grin

well your question is what do they need husbands for?
i think you know well why you need a man!!!

the answer is very simple.they may have had children and even financially comfortable.but women too got feelings and urges that must be taken care of in a proper way or else that could become a menace to society and a shame on their family if left unattended to in a proper way,

as for the 4 wives issue, some women dont like to share their bed with other women.that is also an issue.while both are permissible,we can cite personal tastes and dislikes for both ways.that will not stop any from being permissible.

inshaAllah i'll get the verses and share them.

It goes a long way,for those Aunties, thats when the thing(sexual enjoyment)is at its peak, and they dnt wanna engage in illicit affair, and also dnt wanna loose thier hubby back home, since its a distance that separate them and some day the distance will no more be there but before then, something sweet must shele in a clean way.

Pls we need answers o,as i wanna start connecting people right now,lol

And I don't favour divorce or polygamy.  I am just saying it stil is better than temporary marriage.

Wow! Uplawal,

I don't know how to tell you what I think of that.  I don't have any surahs.  I'm not a Quarnic scholar, but I know it is frowned upon, and Sunnis discourage it.  if a man can marry 4 wives, and you are allowed to divorce, why would anyone need temporary marriage?  I know LagosShia has said his own, but I think that is from his side.

For the "aunties" you talk about, how do you know they want to live that way, as some man's temporary "wife."  If they are older and already have children, what do they need husbands for?  Sometimes a husband is a lot of problems anyway.   cheesy

What the hell? So this is what happened to the "Oduduwa was a fugitive Bini prince thread." There were not even significant tribalist insults in that thread, just one poster saying the phrase "Bini is superior to Yoruba" three times. Furthermore, the thread was originally just asking if Binis consider themselves Yoruba politically-- a nonsensical question, but one that doesn't warrant a deletion. . .

If there is anyway to bring that topic back, mods please do so immediately.

This is just so damn blind and unwarranted. There are multiple threads on this board that start out with the intention of attacking a specific person because of tribal motivations that do not get deleted. At worst they get moved to the tribalism section, but not usually. They often remain where they are and good debates or ignorant mudslinging come afterward, but nobody loses an arm or a leg because of the insults thrown or the reasonable discussions that follow.
I'm truly sorry about that, bro.

That was a good thread.  I wanted to post in it.  Was searching my PC for a photo of a late Oba of Bini that clearly shows the similarity between his costume and the royal robes worn by Lagos kings when sitting on the throne.  The way the Oba of Lagos dresses when he is in public is not the way he dresses when he is in his palace on the throne receiving guests.

Like someone said, bring it back - even in the Culture section.

LagosShia:
First of all let me say that the article is from the perspective of a westerner.and for the west, anything islam is like venom.they never see good in it.if a muslim holds a knife to cut onions, they will only understand that the knife can be used to kill.their women would rather be sleeping every night with a different man than for them to be in a temporary which has Iddah period (waiting period before a woman can re-marry) and that period would by far make the number of ba$tards (and those who dont know their fathers) less in the society.let me just state a few points from what I read in the article that I don’t agree with:

1.) Temporary marriage is not a loophole in the islamic system of iran.and those that violate any part of it could be punished.temporary marriage as the article rightly cited, existed in the days of the Prophet.
2.) Temporary marriage should not only be seen as a way of satisfying the sexual urge.
3.) The saying that “many iranians regard temporary marriage as little more than legalized prostitution” is silly.that is a lay man’s view.if a woman is not a virgin (divorced) and wants to satisfy her urge or her loneliness doing it in a legal way is not a bad thing.
4.) The article concentrates much on the sex side of the marriage than other factors and outcomes and benefits.
5.) No one forces anyone to do temporary marriage.but it is the sad part of reality that women do exist who like men are sexuallly active and are not virgins and they need men.no one is saying virgins should do it or those who can abstain should be forced to do it.no one is saying that.but for those who cant, there is a proper way to do it within a marriage setting and with a legal agreement with each individual knowing his or her rights and limits with certain conditions and obligations that must be observed.
LagosShia,

I do not agree with the way the article is written.  I know how the so called western world feels about us.  And I know of the ills of their society without having to partake in it.  Don't get me started!   lipsrsealed

I only posted it because I had mentioned it as the place where I had read about the practice, and made an effort to find it to refresh my memory.  Also, that newspaper is generally more fair or less unfair as the case may be.

Anyway, I will remove it and post the link only.  I don't care to reproduce it and permanently display it in my message.

Salaam.

Okay.  I think we agree it is definitely not good for certain segment of society.

I found the original article to which I referred.  It's an old article about Iran so things may have changed a lot since then.   I had read it a couple of years ago, so, got a couple of minor information wrong in my previous post, but the essence is correct.

I know you've already answered.  I was searching for the article before I saw your response.

Dear sister,

i have replied you severally with different ID's as my ID'S got banned temporarily one after the other (each time i posted that reply to you).you can check my profile @ "LagosShia" and view my posts.you will see the reply to your post there:

here is a copy of the reply in quote:
All right.  Thank you for your response.  I'm sorry you had so much trouble posting it.  I recently had similar headache (because of "spambot"wink with a post in which I transribed one of the recently departed Barrister's songs.  I posted it numerous times but it wasn't until 2 days later that it was published in the thread.

I've read your response about Nikah Mutah.  I still don't like it.  I would prevent any biological sister of mine from doing it and dissuade any biological brother from doing it.  I don't think I will ever accept it no matter the reasoning.  But, I would leave others alone if they think it is right for them.  Even though I don't see anyone that I know actually participating in such a thing.

Also, you said "widows, divorcees and youth" are more likely to partake in it.  Any young woman that does it, I feel, is just ruining her future.  I remember reading about a young woman who did Nikah Mutah with a "boyfriend."  After two years, he told her he was ready for real long-term marriage.  But, guess what?  He couldn't marry her, because his mother and rest of the family think she is not good enough.  Of course, he was never going to marry her.  I can see why an exploitative prurient young man (like the one in the newspaper story) would want to talk a girl into it - to satisfy his own needs - but a reasonable woman, no matter how old, with a future, would be crazy to do it.  Just my opinion.  I don't have any surahs or hadith to quote.  I'm sure you've seen them all, anyway.

Salaam.

Serious questions for you.  I don't understand how I'm supposed to read the satellite maps - all of your maps!  Also, you talk of Jonathan "giving" money to different states.  It's not coming out of his pocket, and it's not arbitrary.  We have a legislature and finance ministry, etc., that play huge roles in divying out oil revenue.  I do agree that PDP party will not get support in SW, but Jonathan as an individual is gaining in popularity amongst some. My mom says she likes him; does that mean she'll vote for him? I didn't ask. But, if old Yoruba women think he's a nice guy, he might just make it.

I watched the video.  That "Pastor" James David Manning is insane.  I think Uncle Ruckus must have been based on him.

If you can't get to the undercoverblackman page above, you can change the word "bleep" in the url to a 4-letter word starting with "f" or you can view video here:

Who is this fool? Do you know that Christians and Muslims have been living together in the western part of Nigeria for centuries. Have you ever heard of any fight? No! The jos crisis has nothing to do with religion but it has to do with illiteracy!
Know to whom you're replying so you don't waste your energy.  Below is what he said abut girls who want to save themselves for marriage.  His other posts aren't much better.  Consider the source.

As Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, residents of Jos, Plateau State, are in mourning, as no fewer than nine separate explosions rocked Gada Biu, Kabong and Angwa Rukuba area of the state yesterday, killing about 20 people.
Stop spreading hate and fear.  A lot of internecine conflicts are propangadized as religious conflict, while it is actually nothing of the sort.  Do you believe that the Israeli issue is because Palestinians want to impose Islam on the Jews or they want their territory back?

You know the Tutsi and Hutus in Rwanda were Christians.  The few Rwandan Muslims did not turn on their fellow man even though they were of different tribes.

I have no time for your nonsense.  Believe what you want and pray to your god!  Others will practise their faith, whether you like it or not!

RomanceRe: Nigerian Virgin Girls - Keeping Our Virginity by isalegan2: 3:40pm On Dec 26, 2010
Girl846:
Whether you like it or not:

Virginity was/is/forever will be something of virtue because according to the bible/Qu'ran, it is the requirement of everyone until marriage.
If you have a problem with that - then take it up with God. undecided

That being said, we are imperfect beings and this does not mean that there cannot be any decent non-virgin men and women out there.

As for the non-virgins girls: When you bash/belittle virgins and virginity, it just makes you seem bitter/resentful/jealous (even though you may not be). After all, its their choice and to each his own!

After all, God will be the judge of all.
Great post.

But why did they have to be examined by a doctor?  No wonder they looked so miserable.  That is way too invasive.  This whole thing is weird.  You don't need a pageant.  Just take a pledge and keep it to yourself.  No one needs to know but your future husband.
