Your signature says "bleep ojukwu." mukina sees all. ![]() ---------------------------- eta: Alhaji Harem, Look up here! Adding to my post, cos I don't want to post too much in here and be accused of derailing or spamming the thread. I'm just trying to bring your attention to something that (if I were mod I) might be looked at to verify your seriousness about not causing tribalist sentiments. But what-ever. No fight nau. |
Err erm! Before anyone gets into an argument over any links posted by me, I did not authenticate the contents of the site or the opinion therein. I only wanted to post pictures. And found the items I posted. I can't get into a debate about it at this time. I've got no leg to stand on. ![]() However, I also did say I have not seen convincing evidence that shows Oduduwa line of Yoruba kingdoms of Eko and Ile-Ife came before the Bini monarchy of Oduduwa's people. It doesn't mean Yoruba society, history and religion does not deserve its esteemable place in world history. The issue at hand is, which oft-discussed Oduduwa monarchy/lineage predates which? Specifically, the ones of Ife or Bini, since they are so intertwined. At least, that's what I understand the query to be. P.S.: I'm a champion, advocate and proponent of Yoruba culture and traditions. But not at the expense of ![]() |
Jarus:Well, think again. Modding during the wedding. . . from a phone. . . ? That muslima will set you straight. Pronto!A word is enough for the wise, Jarus! Do you want me to spit it out? Take a break and let someone else moderate for a minute. You know you got other things that need your undivided attention. We need someone to bring down the hammer on this nonsense in the Politics section. You're too soft on this boys, bro. ![]() Jarus:And don't take sides! Dapo or Katz, it's all good. |
Jarus, my dear brother, I suspect you need time to plan for your upcoming Nikah. Kindly assign temporary mod duties to someone else - someone who is fair and just and good and nice, yet tough and disciplined and dedicated . . . I'm sorry I can't continue. Was trying to think of a suitable candidate on NL who would want to deal with you lot. ![]() Again, Jarus. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. And Congrats to DapoBear! He's gone from NL, you know. |
Hey, Jarus, Are you gonna move this topic back up to POLITICS section so we can https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-535083.96.html Congrats to Dapobear, Politics Section Winner 2010, who was not my candidate but is deserving. Even though he has disappeared of late. |

Katsumoto:Bastards!!! Not you, Katz. Am talking about el gringo. Sons of Satan! I feel a little better. Not. honeric01: I would like to know which of these 2 main kingdoms (talking of the main Yoruba kingdom at that time and the Bini kingdom) is the oldest? PhysicsQED: I would say Ife.I can't reach that conclusion just yet, Scientific one. The Bini monarchs have a longer and more detailed account of their reign going back at least 3 times as long as the history of the the Obas in Yorubaland, specifically, Ile-Ife, and Eko, with which I'm more familiar. I have yet to see a full account of the Eko Obas going back beyond the mid 1600s. Conversely, the Binis can tell us about their kings going back to gbongbonron. |
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. What a great man he was. He was only 62! |
I haven't yet found the picture of a late Oba of Benin I wanted to post (to compare his royal robes to the Oba of Lagos'), but I found some others. Depiction of Oduduwa. Ojukwu responding to treatment – APGA chairman By Ozioma Ubabukoh Tuesday, 28 Dec 2010 The Punch The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, on Tuesday said that ailing ex-Biafran warlord Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was responding to treatment in a United Kingdom hospital. Umeh, who said he had maintained contact with people that accompanied Odumegwu-Ojukwu on the medical trip, however, tasked those interested in his health to pray for him. He spoke against the backdrop of rumours in Nigeria and in London that the former warlord passed on Sunday. “Ikemba is alive and responding well to treatment. It is not true that he is dead. I urge anybody who has concern for his health to pray for his quick recovery instead of speculating that he is dead,” Umeh said. The APGA chairman described the rumour of Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s death as “false and very unfortunate.” Umeh called on everyone, including the media, to exercise restraints over the present state of Ojukwu’s health since “there is nothing to hide.” He said, ‘‘We thank Nigerians for their concern over Dim Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s state of health and we assure them that we will continue to provide the exact information about his rate of recovery. What is important now is that we pray for his recovery.‘‘ Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is down with Cerebral Vascular Accident (stroke), was on Thursday flown to the united Kingdom on board a German air ambulance for further treatment. He was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu nine days ago but was later moved to the Intensive Care Unit after he was diagnosed with CVA. Odumegwu-Ojukwu was born on November 4, 1933 at Zungeru, Niger State, to one of Nigeria’s earliest millionaire businessman and pioneer President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Sir. Louis Phillippe Odumegwu-Ojukwu. He began his educational career in Lagos. At 13, his father sent him to the UK to study at Epsom College, England. He left Epsom at 18 for Lincoln College, Oxford. At Oxford University, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Modern History. He later earned a Master’s degree in history at Lincoln College, Oxford University, before he returned to the country in 1956. At 11, Odumegwu-Ojukwu was briefly imprisoned for assaulting a white British colonial teacher, who humiliated a black woman at King’s College, Lagos. The incident generated widespread coverage in local newspapers. * The ex-Biafran warlord joined the civil service in Eastern Nigeria as an Administrative Officer for Udi District in Enugu State on his return to the country in 1956. In 1957, within months of working with the colonial civil service, he left and joined the military as one of the first and few university graduates to join the army as a recruit. Odumegwu-Ojukwu rose to the rank of a Lt.-Col. in the Nigerian Army, before he was appointed the Military Governor of the then Eastern Region by the regime of the late Maj.-Gen. Johnson Aguyi-Ironsi. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20101228561714 Edited to add: I bolded this * only to highlight how remarkable it is to be so brave at such a young age. NnamdiN:Wate-On was a product that used to be advertised a lot when I was growing up in Nigeria. No idea if it still gets the publicity. My skinny aunt drank lots of it, but never gained a lick until years later when she started having kids. |
socool:Listen and listen good. This is foolproof. Where are you? Nigeria? Europe? USA? Wherever you are, if you can get your hands on those frozen pot pies that you microwave for about 8 mins. . . you will pack on the weight. One a day. Chicken or turkey pot pie, 600 or 1200 calories each, depending on the size. Better than ice cream. You won't even remember you're on a project. Tastes so good. Happy eating and gaining! ![]() |
Sweetnecta: Even if Muta (temporary marriage) was allowed during Prophet Muhammad's times, but it is important for all Muslims and non-Muslims to know that Muta was allowed during the partial days of Islam, when the Laws of the Glorious Quran were not all yet Revealed, and for special reasons. But after the Glorious Quran was completely Revealed, one would now have to look at all of the Islamic Laws properly and comprehensively to properly determine whether a certain activity is either permissible or prohibited. . .Thank you. Salaam. |
LagosShia: uplawal:Oh, niiiice. So LagosShia is laughing. And Uplawal joins in. I get the feeling one is laughing with me and one is laughing at me. Anyway, I am through with you O, Uplawal. Even though we don't even know each other yet. ![]() I still am oppossed to this temporary marriage idea. Especially, Uplawal is talking about women who are still married. What?! And I don't favour divorce or polygamy. I am just saying it stil is better than temporary marriage. Sweetnecta is giving us the surahs and hadith. I'll review them. Salaam. |
Wow! Uplawal, I don't know how to tell you what I think of that. I don't have any surahs. I'm not a Quarnic scholar, but I know it is frowned upon, and Sunnis discourage it. if a man can marry 4 wives, and you are allowed to divorce, why would anyone need temporary marriage? I know LagosShia has said his own, but I think that is from his side. For the "aunties" you talk about, how do you know they want to live that way, as some man's temporary "wife." If they are older and already have children, what do they need husbands for? Sometimes a husband is a lot of problems anyway. Salaam. |
PhysicsQED:I'm truly sorry about that, bro. That was a good thread. I wanted to post in it. Was searching my PC for a photo of a late Oba of Bini that clearly shows the similarity between his costume and the royal robes worn by Lagos kings when sitting on the throne. The way the Oba of Lagos dresses when he is in public is not the way he dresses when he is in his palace on the throne receiving guests. Like someone said, bring it back - even in the Culture section. |
ROSSIKE:Co-signed. Err. What about the ones north of the Sahara Desert? In there too? Never mind. Am in there! |

LagosShia:LagosShia, I do not agree with the way the article is written. I know how the so called western world feels about us. And I know of the ills of their society without having to partake in it. Don't get me started! ![]() I only posted it because I had mentioned it as the place where I had read about the practice, and made an effort to find it to refresh my memory. Also, that newspaper is generally more fair or less unfair as the case may be. Anyway, I will remove it and post the link only. I don't care to reproduce it and permanently display it in my message. Salaam. |
Okay. I think we agree it is definitely not good for certain segment of society. I found the original article to which I referred. It's an old article about Iran so things may have changed a lot since then. I had read it a couple of years ago, so, got a couple of minor information wrong in my previous post, but the essence is correct. I know you've already answered. I was searching for the article before I saw your response. Salaam. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B02E7DD113DF937A35753C1A9669C8B63 |
LagosShia:All right. Thank you for your response. I'm sorry you had so much trouble posting it. I recently had similar headache (because of "spambot" with a post in which I transribed one of the recently departed Barrister's songs. I posted it numerous times but it wasn't until 2 days later that it was published in the thread.I've read your response about Nikah Mutah. I still don't like it. I would prevent any biological sister of mine from doing it and dissuade any biological brother from doing it. I don't think I will ever accept it no matter the reasoning. But, I would leave others alone if they think it is right for them. Even though I don't see anyone that I know actually participating in such a thing. Also, you said "widows, divorcees and youth" are more likely to partake in it. Any young woman that does it, I feel, is just ruining her future. I remember reading about a young woman who did Nikah Mutah with a "boyfriend." After two years, he told her he was ready for real long-term marriage. But, guess what? He couldn't marry her, because his mother and rest of the family think she is not good enough. Of course, he was never going to marry her. I can see why an exploitative prurient young man (like the one in the newspaper story) would want to talk a girl into it - to satisfy his own needs - but a reasonable woman, no matter how old, with a future, would be crazy to do it. Just my opinion. I don't have any surahs or hadith to quote. I'm sure you've seen them all, anyway. Salaam. |
Bon Jour, Becomrich, Serious questions for you. I don't understand how I'm supposed to read the satellite maps - all of your maps! Also, you talk of Jonathan "giving" money to different states. It's not coming out of his pocket, and it's not arbitrary. We have a legislature and finance ministry, etc., that play huge roles in divying out oil revenue. I do agree that PDP party will not get support in SW, but Jonathan as an individual is gaining in popularity amongst some. My mom says she likes him; does that mean she'll vote for him? I didn't ask. But, if old Yoruba women think he's a nice guy, he might just make it. Anyway, I'm not sure you're serious. ![]() |
LagosShia:All right. I accept your answer. I just wouldn't do it myself. But thanks for your response. I wanted to ask you something else. I don't want to put on your head the responsibility of defending every Shia in the world and everything about it, but you seem to have ![]() Why does Shia accept temporary marriage? Nikkah Muta or any other? Do you think it benefits the woman and man equally? Is it being discouraged or is it growing? What kind of people are more likely to practise it? You can answer any time. Salaam. (Also, I do not wish to mislead you or anyone. I am a sister. I just don't want to provide too much personal info in my profile.) |
LagosShia:Salaam Aleikum, LagosShia, I don't think you should be posting pictures of those girls' faces. Unless they consented to having their images used on Nairaland. I'm sure you know the nonsense that goes on here and how innocent peoples' images are misused. Just my opinion. |

jason123:Know to whom you're replying so you don't waste your energy. Below is what he said abut girls who want to save themselves for marriage. His other posts aren't much better. Consider the source. nairaman66: |
alexleo:Stop spreading hate and fear. A lot of internecine conflicts are propangadized as religious conflict, while it is actually nothing of the sort. Do you believe that the Israeli issue is because Palestinians want to impose Islam on the Jews or they want their territory back? You know the Tutsi and Hutus in Rwanda were Christians. The few Rwandan Muslims did not turn on their fellow man even though they were of different tribes. I have no time for your nonsense. Believe what you want and pray to your god!
