PoliticsRe: Sahara Reporters Interviews Fashola, Watch Video by isalegan2: 3:21pm On Dec 26, 2010
Here is the same "reporter" being obnoxious and starting a press conference on a bad note. Granted the minister could have handled it better, but this Sowore guy is just plain unruly and unprofessional. It's an old tape.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYFXsoMbVAE&NR=1&feature=fvwp

I like this comment from a viewer:
Sowore the so called journalist was very crude and rude. Of course he's not a journalist, but you don't need to be a journalist to learn professionalism and manners. Crude and uncouth Sowore.

Better wait, Naija is where they can get his records for you,  send someone to Lati Alagbada Records, or Ogo Oluwa Kiitan Records along Agege Motor Rd, near Shogunle (am sure the head office's still there); you'll definitely get most of his oldies there. A mini classic records market used to be at Oshodi Isale, but they were moved (don't know where),  I could have guaranteed you'll get any records from them.

PoliticsRe: San Drowns In Lagos Beach Trying To Rescue Secretary by isalegan2: 8:01pm On Dec 25, 2010
Wow!  That poor brave woman. RIP, both of them.

So many questions:
It was a party, so was the alcohol flowing?
Was the secretary drunk, to go in the water?
Could either of them swim?

I'd do just about anything for my fellow man or woman, but jumping in the ocean isn't one of them - even if I could swim.  A drowning person pulls you down with them.  Eko natives are taught from a young age to stay the heck away from the water!  The ocean is angry.   Historically, Eko natives setup their homes far away from the waters edge, well inside the hinterland.  This is why the Europeans had no competition when they started building their ocean-front homes.  Go right ahead and tempt fate, oyinbo.

I can't blame the government for this one.

Or do you have beef with Tribalism?
Well, that's a loaded question.  Tribalism means different things to different people - especially on NL.

I'm proud of my tribe.  Not sure if that means I'm a tribalist.  I like to know my history and keep traditions alive.  And I don't begrudge other Nigerians from uplifting their tribe.  I am proud to be an African.  I guess you can read my posts to reach your own conclusions about me.

In "Fantasia Fuji" (side 2). He dedicated the entire side 2 of that record for that song, "iku";  the record's MY favourite. He sang about 'death' in most of his records,  listen to the tribute he made for Alhaja Amudat Adunni Zubair, on 'side B' of "Questionaire"; tribute to Alhaja Simbiat Abiola in "Dimensional Fuji"; and many more. I found these two very emotional, even though I'd no idea who some of those late people were. I actually fancy listening to the side 2 of his records specifically to listen to praises of his sponsors, he was brilliant!
I totally missed that my question was already answered in the first post of yours I quoted.  I feel dunce-like.  I just overlooked it cos I had only looked at the list of albums and not read the full intro in your post.  Thanks for humouring me.  embarassed

I've had some trouble posting another transcription I did because spambot keeps banning me.  But I'll post it in bits.

Also, do you have any suggestion on where to get his albums?  I don't have all the ones I want, and am restless waiting for the people back home to mail it to me in the US.  Not many selections on Amazon.com.  Actually, last time I checked, it was less than half a dozen.

Do you by any chance remember which of his albums contains the song about "iku" and his mother and father's passing?  I want to do the lyrics but only have a short clip of 3mins of that song.  Thanks.  It goes something like:

My mom told me today.  Sad news.  And I just started appreciating him all over again too.  Asking for his albums, putting his song in my signature just a couple of weeks ago too. . . daydreaming of an excuse to throw a party when next I go home so we can have him entertain like the good old days when I was too young to fully appreciate him.  He'd had health problems for a few years now.  In and out of hospitals.  RIP, great man.

Jarus:
According to NL electoral act:
1, When there is tie after poll, the poll shall be extended by 48 hours.
2, Where after extension, it's still a tie, the Mod uses his experience and knowledge of the two or more nominees to pick the final winner.
shocked

Anyway, thanks for the link to 2009 results.  Didn't help. grin

Do you recall whether any of the 3 finalists have won in the past?  Or come close?  Thanks, Jarus.
IslamNice Quranic Recitations by isalegan2(op): 5:44am On Dec 16, 2010
Quick post here.  Wanted to share these videos.  Will add more later when I have more time.

A couple of the videos are from a Qari competition, which is kind of surprising to me.  I would expect an exhibition, not a contest, featuring these talented and devoted Qaris.  I expect there may have been controversy in the past and maybe even now about it.  I would like to know if you're aware of some refusing to participate in the competitions due to their interpretation of what it means to be a muslim.

I am most interested if anyone has links to Nigerian/African Qaris or other beautiful video or audio of quranic recitations.

Salaam.

Jarus,
Good job.  Can you provide a link to, or a list of, past Politics Section Winners and runners up in the last few years?  I understand Becomrich won last year.  I'm curious to know who were the runners-up.  Also who won the year before that.  Thanks.

Jarus:
My check with the banning authorities however shows that Beaf has been banned twice this year for running foul of forum setion. He is thereby disqualified.
Beaf is out?  He wasn't one of my finalists, but still. . .
Disqualifying a nominee with so much support at such a late date?  Beaf, get yourself an advocate and challenge it.  There are so many loopholes.  Where is your sorry excuse of a awesome campaign manager?  grin grin

. . . collapsed six weeks ago during a training session.
. . . he suffered a slight injury in between in one of our games, which he quickly recovered from.
. . . we conducted tests on all the players. Emma (Ogoli) was no exception and we found him to be in perfect condition.

21 years old?  We still don't know what caused his death.  Was it his brain (head injury) or his heart?

RIP, young brother.
