Here is the same "reporter" being obnoxious and starting a press conference on a bad note. Granted the minister could have handled it better, but this Sowore guy is just plain unruly and unprofessional. It's an old tape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYFXsoMbVAE&NR=1&feature=fvwp I like this comment from a viewer: Sowore the so called journalist was very crude and rude. Of course he's not a journalist, but you don't need to be a journalist to learn professionalism and manners. Crude and uncouth Sowore. |

You can speakit some more Francais though. No problem. ![]() *Season's Greetings* |
Wow! That poor brave woman. RIP, both of them. So many questions: It was a party, so was the alcohol flowing? Was the secretary drunk, to go in the water? Could either of them swim? I'd do just about anything for my fellow man or woman, but jumping in the ocean isn't one of them - even if I could swim. A drowning person pulls you down with them. Eko natives are taught from a young age to stay the heck away from the water! The ocean is angry. Historically, Eko natives setup their homes far away from the waters edge, well inside the hinterland. This is why the Europeans had no competition when they started building their ocean-front homes. Go right ahead and tempt fate, oyinbo. I can't blame the government for this one. |
justise: ![]() Okay. I've read more of your posts and concluded: 1) Contrary to my earlier impression, I am not older than you; 2) You have more NL monikers than I initially thought. ![]() |
justise:All right. Was that a trick question? Are you playing a game? If you're up to something, I'll tell you right now, I'm prob older than you. Don't try to trick me. You will lose! And, I'm a sister. Catch you later. P.S. Don't post cruel things about an ailing man. Keep your fights out of get-well-soon or "mourning" threads. There's a hundred other threads for that. ![]() |
justise:Well, that's a loaded question. Tribalism means different things to different people - especially on NL. I'm proud of my tribe. Not sure if that means I'm a tribalist. I like to know my history and keep traditions alive. And I don't begrudge other Nigerians from uplifting their tribe. I am proud to be an African. I guess you can read my posts to reach your own conclusions about me. I'm happy to answer your questions. ![]() It's late here so if I don't reply you, I fell asleep. ![]() |
justise:All right. Thanks for answering my question. |
justise:That appears to be a defensive statement, not an offensive one. That's the way I see that.
Respect? These same herds of pigs used the death of an innocent NLer [may his gentle soul RIP] to laugh and crack jokes a few days ago. How can you respect live if you do not respect the dead? Disgusting ediots. Anywaz, their God's time is the best.
The offensive statements I saw in threads about the murdered poster had to do with self-serving comments about his religious faith or lack thereof. I must have missed posts ridiculing him because of his tribe - from anyone, including Ibos. --- I'm curious to know if either of you lived in Nigeria in your formative years - growing up around Ibos - attending primary or secondary school with them - having them as teachers - living next door to them? No offense meant. I'm not saying there isn't a lot of give and take on this NL "tribalism"subject. I'm following up since you responded to my earlier request for peace. |
justise:So, you'll hate on him just a little bit less? If the old man's on his sick bed, it doesn't hurt to show some respect (at least on threads dedicated to wishing him well). And suspend the vitriol against him and his people for a little while? Who knows, peace might break out all over But, I won't hold my breath. |
triplicate removed by poster. blame spambot. |
olawonder:I totally missed that my question was already answered in the first post of yours I quoted. I feel dunce-like. I just overlooked it cos I had only looked at the list of albums and not read the full intro in your post. Thanks for humouring me. ![]() I've had some trouble posting another transcription I did because spambot keeps banning me. But I'll post it in bits. Also, do you have any suggestion on where to get his albums? I don't have all the ones I want, and am restless waiting for the people back home to mail it to me in the US. Not many selections on Amazon.com. Actually, last time I checked, it was less than half a dozen. |
chyz:Interesting video clip. In the beginning, before the interview formally began, he's speaking Yoruba. I'm not sure about this thread. ![]() |

I've transcribed a couple of Barrister's songs. The captions are mine, so they may differ from other lyrics out there. There are some Yoruba words and names I'm just not sure I got right. I'll check with my parents to make sure there are no mistakes. But I really want to share this. sherrify:I believe you. And I agree with the opening post about making plans to direct our energies towards Nigeria/Africa. Take care. |
My mom told me today. Sad news. And I just started appreciating him all over again too. Asking for his albums, putting his song in my signature just a couple of weeks ago too. . . daydreaming of an excuse to throw a party when next I go home so we can have him entertain like the good old days when I was too young to fully appreciate him. He'd had health problems for a few years now. In and out of hospitals. RIP, great man. He was a family friend and younger than my dad so I know he's thinking deeply. olawonder:Life is short. Thanks for the list. I am definitely sad this great talent has passed. |
Jarus: Anyway, thanks for the link to 2009 results. Didn't help. ![]() Do you recall whether any of the 3 finalists have won in the past? Or come close? Thanks, Jarus. |
Quick post here. Wanted to share these videos. Will add more later when I have more time. A couple of the videos are from a Qari competition, which is kind of surprising to me. I would expect an exhibition, not a contest, featuring these talented and devoted Qaris. I expect there may have been controversy in the past and maybe even now about it. I would like to know if you're aware of some refusing to participate in the competitions due to their interpretation of what it means to be a muslim. I am most interested if anyone has links to Nigerian/African Qaris or other beautiful video or audio of quranic recitations. Jarus, Good job. Can you provide a link to, or a list of, past Politics Section Winners and runners up in the last few years? I understand Becomrich won last year. I'm curious to know who were the runners-up. Also who won the year before that. Thanks. Jarus:Beaf is out? He wasn't one of my finalists, but still. . . Disqualifying a nominee with so much support at such a late date? Beaf, get yourself an advocate and challenge it. There are so many loopholes. Where is your ![]() |
