These people just talk nonsense without realizing the consequences, love of guns. Reload. Etc. The poor woman is fighting for her life now. A judge is dead. A 9 year old is dead, six people are dead due to some lunatic.
They do love their guns! |
I can't hold anyone responsible other than the misguided shooter. But Tpia, you know American politics, they always want to put their opponents on the defensive right away - they define events before someone else has had a chance to do it. Pre-emptive strikes all the time. |
Tpia, How you dey? ![]() I'm checking out the coverage so far. Not much being said about the judge, yet. |
Summary: -She was elected in 2006, so this new session is her 3rd term; -The re-election was close; a tough race, and she actively moved to the right to appeal to conservatives in order to win; -Arizona is the state where they passed the restrictive law against immigrants; -Some are already playing politics, saying it was the anti-liberal and anti-Obama rhetoric and the divisive racially charged politics in Arizona that is the cause, and that this is the culmination; -The shooter is a 22-year old -Married to an astronaut, former Naval officer http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/us/politics/09giffords.html And in August 2009, when there were demonstrations against the health care measure across the nation, a protester who showed up to meet Ms. Giffords at a supermarket event similar to Saturday’s was removed by the police when the pistol he had holstered under his armpit fell and bounced on the floor. During the fall campaign, Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, posted a controversial map on her Facebook page depicting spots where Democrats were running for re-election; those Democrats were noted by crosshairs symbols like those seen through the scope of a gun. Ms. Giffords was among those on Ms. Palin’s map, which later removed the crosshairs symbols. |
She's a democrat; at a public meeting/appearance in Tuscon Arizona. AP via Yahoo News: http://news.yahoo.com/ TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday when an assailant opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with constituents, killing a 9-year-old boy and a federal judge and wounding several others in a rampage that rattled the nation. Giffords was among at least 10 people wounded, and the hospital said her outlook was "optimistic" and that she was responding to commands from doctors. The hospital said a 9-year-old child was among the killed, and a U.S. Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack. |
I just talked to 3 different people in Lagos in the last hours. Everyone said it was false. |
alj harem:Alhj, I don't know why anyone would think such a thing. Seriously. In the past, all the people accusing every new poster of being Ezeuche seemed way off to me, but this one is really something else. Me and FStranger ![]() |
Becomrichn:Did Nigeria do something bad to him? I'm just asking cos I don't know what you mean, that's all. |
This thread is like yelling "fire!" in a theatre. |
"Obasanjo Threatens To Quit Pdp" How can he quit PDP? He is PDP! The man is full of it. |
fstranger1:Did you ever see an episode of Taxi where Latka or whatever his name, in one of his lucid moments, came to a realization that would shed light on Alex's problems and improve his life henceforth. As he was about to tell Alex and help him towards a new and better life, Latka's old befuddled personality took over. Poor Alex never received the advice he desperately needed. Hehehehe. You're Alex. But I'm not Latka. Tough noogies. Back on topic: I didn't say education is not important |
Someone is intent on ruining my weekend. That troublesome poster and now pics of Rumsfeld popping up without warning. Yeah, Richard Cheney is the devil.fstranger1:Stranger, You've reached conclusions about me. Fine. I have made observations about you and have very pertinent insight about your personality, your academic background, your worldview. I could tell you why you are the way you are, what obstacles will come your way as a result, and how you will come to realize the error of your ways. . . but I'm too kind. ![]() Worst of all, I strongly suspect you and Sefago are one and the same. ![]() I acknowledge you know the Hadith more than me. But I don't know the "4th Umar" you speak of, butthead! |
fstranger1:In case you missed it, my response was not directed at you. Pure coincidence that we were both posting at the same time. Furthermore, you completely misunderstood my post. Don't talk to me. Thanks. |
Forty years ago, everyone did not have the opportunity to go to university. In fact, people who completed "standard 6" in the 60s were considered by some to have the equivalent education of those who completed Secondary "form 5" decades later. I don't like this Atiku guy, but his having a diploma in Hygiene is the least of it. Some trivia for those who always judge everything by American and European standards: Yes, in the USA, you need not have any post-secondary education to run for local or national office. There are a number of state legislators who have only a high school diploma. A college droupout almost became governor of a southeastern state in the last election - she was secretary of state (of GA) before that. |
Maggi is nothing but MSG. The last time I used it, I thought I was going to die! ![]() |
fstranger6:You forgot about me not wanting USA involvement in Nigeria's security and defense issues! ![]() You will not find me use any religious reasoning for my opinions re: "gays." Why? Because it isn't religion-based. Also, the posts above wasn't about my view of abortion, but was playing devil's advocate where others are defining the rights and wrongs of what other cultures do. I saw the word "barbaric" (in Uweh's post) and I shifted into defense mode. |
![]() I haven't seen that thread before. The link goes to Page 5 where a bunch of posters ganged up on one guy. Is this classic Ezeuche? Where's the funny part? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EzeUche22 (m) Re: The True Extent Of Alaigbo (Igboland) « #152 on: August 20, 2010, 08:13 PM » ChinenyeN, Really? Are you really asking that question? I do not like you, because you are clannish. |
Wow! I can't believe he'd just kill himself like that! Did he have children? I really cannot understand why he would do that if he had children. Terrible. We're all waiting to hear what led to this. |
Are you going to start again? I should have put it in quotes? Would that make you happy?! I'm comparing how practices are viewed by different people. Leave me alone. Does everyone view abortion the same? People did sacrifices due to their ignorance and they know better. I do not accept outiders defining us. So I get defensive. Big deal! How am I like Hitler? And how am I a fanatic? You just can't stop fighting. . . ![]() |
Andre Uweh:You mean incestuous on the part of the fetuses, right? Or, like, the 2 genders in one womb symbolized an inbreeding happened in the past? Anyway, thanks very much for that. I never knew why. Most of us read it for the first time in Things Fall Apart, and didn't research it further. I believe the Ibos are a proud people with a rich culture. We all have incidents of one form of sacrifice or another in our past. I hesitate to call any of us barbaric. The oyinbos kill milions of babies every year via state-sanctioned abortions and no one calls them barbaric. ![]() |
This is the best thread! Do all members have to drink emu before initiation? Just wondering? Also, I imagine you can speak your language without being inebriated, but I bet it helps to be tipsy. ![]() Carry on. |
I spoke a little bit of it . . . long time ago, and I still understand what people are saying. I just have to learn to speak it all over again and carry on a conversation in it, which, honestly, I don't see it happening, until I move back permanently. ![]() In written form, to me, it's hilarious. I don't know why. It's like a stand-up comic's language. ![]() |
alj harem1:I'll need to brush up on Yoruba traditions quick quick. I seem to recall religious statues/artifacts of twins, but am not sure. That may be one aspect though. You know, there were many gods, so the twins worship may have been one particular orisha. Anyway, the traditional religions folks can answer that quicker than it takes me to research Google Books or Google Scholar. ![]() fstranger6:Who are you? ![]() |
Alhaji, I foresee problems for this thread O. Anyway, most of us didn't know this until we read it in Things Fall Apart. I doubt Igbo people of recent generations can really explain it either. It wasn't their decision what was a longstanding ritual in their tradition. And how come you didn't ask your granma? ![]() As for Yorubas, we love twins. I must have twins! ![]() |
How Bodi? Bodi's smoking hot. But that's not what you meant, is it? I'm no good at this. I'm just playing.Do-over please! "How bodi?" Body dey wellu well. Just fail me now, teacher. I give up. I think I'll go learn Arabic instead. G'night. ![]() |
I'm serious. But now I'm way self conscious, so let's just forget the whole thing. We'll start over: Hi, TPIA. Nice to meet you. How you dey?! ![]() |
I don't speak broken at all. But, since NL, some of it is coming back. TPIA, so I should have responded what? "I dey well well"? Helep me O. ![]() |
![]() That is a great story! ![]() This happens a lot to me, but in Yoruba instead. Like I'll freeze and forget the right response in Yoruba
My Yoruba is EXCELLENT! ![]() |
I think it's cute if other Africans are trying to act Nigerian. About trying to fake the funk, I met a fellow Nigerian woman in a supermarket I go to all the time. Whenever this lady sees me she's always so friendly and chatty, as am I. But she always greets me very loudly in broken, no matter how many people are around. Okay, so growing up in Lagos, we spoke Yoruba in my home, and English only when we needed to. Being in America, for me, it's been almost exclusively English since, well, I'm talking to Americans all day. But I decided it was becoming too obvious that this woman is speaking our own unique language that I as a Nigerian should share in with her to bring us closer together. The next time she does it, instead of speaking real English, I'm going to speak broken back to her. I haven't spoken broken in eons! So, one day I walk into the store and in front a huge amount of Americans and her co-workers, she sees me in line and greets me loudly: "MY SISTER!!! HOW YOU DEY NOW?!!!" Sister Isale_Gangan: "I . . . .good?" I knew that was wrong, and I'm sure the entire store knew it too. I died a thousand deaths in the 2 minutes it took for her to ring me up and me to say so long. ![]() |
Is this for real? Where's the linko the story? Reminds me of the story in Spain when Cristiano first joined Real Madrid - all those weirdos taking credit for him being injured cos some jilted woman asked them to put a curse on him. |

Okay, I don't want to prolong this thread, but I have one, hopefully, final question: What is the Shia view of intermarriage between them and "other" muslims? For example, a muslim woman is discouraged (really, prohibited) from marrying a non-muslim. So, from the Shia perspective, a Sunni woman and a Shia man? Do you require the woman does anything before the Shia man will marry her? I mean, a real permanent Nikkah marriage. Salaam. |
